The Unexpected Journey

Maureen McKinnon and Dana McKinnon-Tucker on Paralympic Sailing and Family

Tim Brown Season 1 Episode 8

Maureen McKinnon has been sailor and racer for quite a while, both when she was able bodied and as an adaptive sailor following an accident that resulted in paraplegia. A friend and teammate told her, "Once a sailor, always a sailor." Her groundbreaking sailing career includes being the first woman on the US Paralympic Sailing team and the first woman from any country to win a medal in Paralympic Sailing. To employ another old adage, "The apple doesn't fall far from the tree".  Maureen's daughter, Dana McKinnon-Tucker, is also a passionate sailor who is just starting her racing career.  She and I recently had a blast racing together in the Clagett Regatta in Newport, Rhode Island. Dana and Maureen came on the podcast to share their love for sailing, their Paralympics experience, and many other wonderful aspects of their individual and family life.
