Episode #85- Embracing the Experiment- Thinking about Starting Medications in Youth
In this Episode of TTDN- Dr. Naidoo talks a bit about a common challenge that she encounters when it comes to prescribing medications in youth. Parents have great concerns about their children starting medications- How will it affect their personality? Will there be side effects? Is there a way to be certain that this medication is the right fit for my child? Dr. Naidoo shares that with trying a medication there is no guarantee that a medication will ' work' or will not have side effects. But certian times, when the symptoms are truly impairing, it may be worth trying with a trusted and experienced licensed mental health care provider. In this episode she encourages parents and patients to consider embracing the experiment. She also talks about the therapeutic alliance and how critical this is to help treatment work.
