Didn't really know what I wanted to do"},{"startTime":262.148,"endTime":265.658,"body":"at the time. So after working for a year, year and a half in town,"},{"startTime":265.674,"endTime":268.814,"body":"I'm like, I need to get more education. I want to get a master's degree."},{"startTime":268.942,"endTime":272.61,"body":"So I looked through the entire graduate catalog and came across a program"},{"startTime":272.68,"endTime":276.402,"body":"called family, Youth and Community Sciences. And"},{"startTime":276.456,"endTime":280.15,"body":"this was in the early 2000s. There really at the time,"},{"startTime":280.22,"endTime":283.926,"body":"wasn't necessarily degrees in nonprofits, and if they were,"},{"startTime":283.948,"endTime":287.72,"body":"it wasn't as widespread as now where you can get masters and even"},{"startTime":288.73,"endTime":292.314,"body":"you can get a doctorate in philanthropy from Indiana University. Lily family school"},{"startTime":292.352,"endTime":295.898,"body":"philanthropy. You can be a PhD. You can be that's amazing."},{"startTime":296.064,"endTime":299.594,"body":"Yes. Yes. I like Dr."},{"startTime":299.632,"endTime":303.246,"body":"Julia. That's a good one. So I went and I met with the"},{"startTime":303.268,"endTime":306.958,"body":"graduate admissions professor, and she said, you'd be really good at this program, and I"},{"startTime":306.964,"endTime":310.19,"body":"want to offer you assistantship. And I said, giddy up"},{"startTime":310.34,"endTime":314.03,"body":"and fast forward. Here we are almost"},{"startTime":314.1,"endTime":317.554,"body":"20 years later, and I've led a very successful career in"},{"startTime":317.592,"endTime":321.266,"body":"fundraising and marketing and proud nerd. And being a"},{"startTime":321.288,"endTime":325.122,"body":"nerd has certainly got me to where I am in my career today because"},{"startTime":325.176,"endTime":328.774,"body":"I'm that person who I love to be an early adopter. I was"},{"startTime":328.812,"endTime":332.486,"body":"on social media setting up pages for nonprofits on"},{"startTime":332.508,"endTime":336.102,"body":"MySpace. I'll date myself there because I just knew"},{"startTime":336.156,"endTime":339.462,"body":"then that this world of social media was going to be an outlet"},{"startTime":339.526,"endTime":343.034,"body":"for know. Fast forward to when we were talking in third"},{"startTime":343.072,"endTime":346.422,"body":"person on Facebook before there were even profile"},{"startTime":346.486,"endTime":349.98,"body":"pages. We were still trying to harness this. And"},{"startTime":350.35,"endTime":353.806,"body":"one of our good friends from the early days, john Hayden, was leading the"},{"startTime":353.828,"endTime":357.63,"body":"charge and was soaking up all knowledge I could from him and"},{"startTime":357.78,"endTime":361.23,"body":"really just have thoroughly enjoyed where the road has taken"},{"startTime":361.3,"endTime":365.058,"body":"me. And right now, I'm riding that AI. Train because"},{"startTime":365.224,"endTime":368.562,"body":"it's hot. But not only is it hot, it's applicable to any"},{"startTime":368.616,"endTime":372.014,"body":"nonprofit, no matter size. You could be a global nonprofit"},{"startTime":372.062,"endTime":375.566,"body":"with a $10 million plus annual"},{"startTime":375.598,"endTime":379.366,"body":"revenue, or you could be a small mom and pop nonprofit operating out"},{"startTime":379.388,"endTime":383.094,"body":"of your bedroom with $100,000 if"},{"startTime":383.132,"endTime":386.946,"body":"that budget and using AI tools, it really is leveling"},{"startTime":386.978,"endTime":390.774,"body":"the playing field. From a commerce perspective, from an analysis"},{"startTime":390.822,"endTime":394.102,"body":"perspective, I think that's like the data side is uber"},{"startTime":394.166,"endTime":397.642,"body":"nerdy. We're seeing a lot of new vendors that are using"},{"startTime":397.696,"endTime":401.258,"body":"AI from well, screening purposes that are going to allow"},{"startTime":401.344,"endTime":405.086,"body":"you to save more time, it's going to allow you to raise more money, it's"},{"startTime":405.108,"endTime":408.814,"body":"going to be more efficient and even create more personalized experiences for"},{"startTime":408.852,"endTime":412.622,"body":"your constituent base using AI. Exactly. And I was going to say"},{"startTime":412.676,"endTime":416.466,"body":"that you have always been an early adopter, just like you mentioned. And"},{"startTime":416.488,"endTime":420.158,"body":"when we first met, you were working for Susan"},{"startTime":420.174,"endTime":423.298,"body":"G. Coleman, and I remember you talking about"},{"startTime":423.384,"endTime":427.122,"body":"Chatbots way back then, I mean years ago, using"},{"startTime":427.176,"endTime":431.014,"body":"Chatbots to help manage questions that you would get"},{"startTime":431.052,"endTime":434.454,"body":"about events or about your race or about some kind know,"},{"startTime":434.492,"endTime":438.274,"body":"huge gathering that was happening using Facebook"},{"startTime":438.322,"endTime":442.098,"body":"challenges, using Facebook fundraising."},{"startTime":442.194,"endTime":445.722,"body":"Like all of these tools. What I've always really"},{"startTime":445.776,"endTime":449.546,"body":"enjoyed about your work is you're not afraid to really experiment and kind"},{"startTime":449.568,"endTime":453.166,"body":"of jump in there and see where these tools can"},{"startTime":453.188,"endTime":456.634,"body":"lead you. And you're definitely not one to sit on the sidelines"},{"startTime":456.682,"endTime":460.366,"body":"when new tools come about. So I appreciate that. It"},{"startTime":460.388,"endTime":463.666,"body":"just makes complete sense that now you're focusing on"},{"startTime":463.848,"endTime":467.474,"body":"AI and nonprofits, you're speaking everywhere about it,"},{"startTime":467.592,"endTime":471.378,"body":"you're teaching courses, you are doing a lot of training and a"},{"startTime":471.384,"endTime":474.91,"body":"lot of work around it. So when we"},{"startTime":475.0,"endTime":478.486,"body":"talk about AI, this mythical being,"},{"startTime":478.588,"endTime":482.338,"body":"artificial intelligence, I think a lot of us tend"},{"startTime":482.354,"endTime":486.022,"body":"to think of generative AI, right? We think of"},{"startTime":486.076,"endTime":489.654,"body":"Chat GPT, we think of Bard, we think of the"},{"startTime":489.772,"endTime":493.414,"body":"apps on our phone that can help us create digital"},{"startTime":493.462,"endTime":497.274,"body":"images. And we tend not to, at least in my experience with"},{"startTime":497.312,"endTime":500.686,"body":"my clients, we tend not to think about the power and the"},{"startTime":500.708,"endTime":504.334,"body":"potential to be more productive, to save time"},{"startTime":504.532,"endTime":507.982,"body":"and to even raise more money. And you touched on that a little bit."},{"startTime":508.036,"endTime":511.834,"body":"But how can fundraisers specifically,"},{"startTime":511.882,"endTime":514.894,"body":"like, what are some of your favorite ways or some of your favorite things you've"},{"startTime":514.942,"endTime":518.514,"body":"seen? How can fundraisers use this emerging tech"},{"startTime":518.632,"endTime":522.334,"body":"to do their jobs in a more efficiently and effective"},{"startTime":522.382,"endTime":526.226,"body":"way? First off, don't be scared of AI. I think know,"},{"startTime":526.248,"endTime":529.926,"body":"there's this big hurdle that people are, well, you know, I don't know how to"},{"startTime":529.948,"endTime":533.506,"body":"use it. I've heard that about this thing. Like you said, Chat GBT or Bard"},{"startTime":533.618,"endTime":537.446,"body":"or Claude is another big one, but you just have to get"},{"startTime":537.468,"endTime":541.238,"body":"your hands in and start playing around. So looking at Chat GPT is"},{"startTime":541.244,"endTime":544.362,"body":"kind of like the tile and all of medicines. Like right now it is that"},{"startTime":544.416,"endTime":547.722,"body":"brand leader. It has great market share. There are"},{"startTime":547.776,"endTime":551.194,"body":"freemium versions, there's a paid model, but the free version gives"},{"startTime":551.232,"endTime":554.974,"body":"you Chat GPT model 3.5, which is more than"},{"startTime":555.012,"endTime":558.75,"body":"enough that you need to get started. And what's key is"},{"startTime":558.9,"endTime":562.746,"body":"it is a learning model. So when I am working with Chat"},{"startTime":562.778,"endTime":566.494,"body":"GPT and I'm just use that for our example, I'm"},{"startTime":566.542,"endTime":570.13,"body":"talking to it, I'm not necessarily having"},{"startTime":570.2,"endTime":574.002,"body":"like do this, but I'm having natural flowing conversations because"},{"startTime":574.056,"endTime":577.846,"body":"it's getting me in that mindset to get the desired output I"},{"startTime":577.868,"endTime":581.686,"body":"want. So whenever I start with a new thread or"},{"startTime":581.708,"endTime":585.27,"body":"a new chat or within Chat GPT,"},{"startTime":585.61,"endTime":589.354,"body":"I'm always teaching it who it is. So"},{"startTime":589.552,"endTime":593.386,"body":"we want to have the tool become in that"},{"startTime":593.408,"endTime":596.874,"body":"mindset. So if you are a vice president of"},{"startTime":596.912,"endTime":600.214,"body":"advancement for a no kill pet shelter in Houston,"},{"startTime":600.262,"endTime":603.95,"body":"Texas, you're always going to start out with your prompt saying,"},{"startTime":604.1,"endTime":607.902,"body":"act like yada yada yada, by"},{"startTime":607.956,"endTime":611.742,"body":"saying act like it's getting it into its mindset. And more so than"},{"startTime":611.796,"endTime":615.534,"body":"saying act like. I always like to tell it that's an expert, that it's won"},{"startTime":615.572,"endTime":619.346,"body":"awards. So it has this mindset of saying, okay, not"},{"startTime":619.368,"endTime":623.106,"body":"only do I know this subject matter, but I'm an expert at it. Keep"},{"startTime":623.128,"endTime":626.754,"body":"in mind when you're looking at the different tools, so the data set"},{"startTime":626.792,"endTime":630.242,"body":"that Chat GPT is taught on ended in September"},{"startTime":630.306,"endTime":633.782,"body":"2021. That's right. I wonder if that's going to change. But"},{"startTime":633.836,"endTime":637.474,"body":"okay, I have no idea how they're looking at expanding"},{"startTime":637.522,"endTime":641.174,"body":"that. But looking at a tool like Bard. Bard is live, real"},{"startTime":641.212,"endTime":644.698,"body":"time connected to the internet. So you are able to go on there and"},{"startTime":644.784,"endTime":647.978,"body":"know, how did Lionel Messi play in last night's game, and it'll give you a"},{"startTime":647.984,"endTime":651.418,"body":"quick breakdown of like, all right, he had two goals and these assists."},{"startTime":651.594,"endTime":655.374,"body":"But also, what are the purposes behind the different tools like"},{"startTime":655.412,"endTime":659.214,"body":"Chat GBT or Bard? Chat GBT I find,"},{"startTime":659.252,"endTime":662.954,"body":"is much more creative flowing from a writing perspective,"},{"startTime":663.082,"endTime":666.642,"body":"Claude, you can do even much more longer form"},{"startTime":666.776,"endTime":670.59,"body":"content. So it's really finding the right tool for what your desired"},{"startTime":670.75,"endTime":674.466,"body":"output is. And that's the other part. You have what I like to call"},{"startTime":674.488,"endTime":678.306,"body":"the create formula. So creating that character that's"},{"startTime":678.338,"endTime":682.022,"body":"going to allow you to go down the path of getting"},{"startTime":682.076,"endTime":685.51,"body":"you that desired output you want. Keep in mind, your"},{"startTime":685.58,"endTime":689.4,"body":"initial output most times is not going to be that final"},{"startTime":689.77,"endTime":693.334,"body":"content that you're producing. You're going to continue to iterate"},{"startTime":693.382,"endTime":697.062,"body":"and bring back and refine it even a little further to get your desired"},{"startTime":697.126,"endTime":700.65,"body":"results. The way I also like to look at it is the content"},{"startTime":700.72,"endTime":703.754,"body":"that's coming out of any GPT generative,"},{"startTime":703.802,"endTime":707.134,"body":"pretrainer. Look at it like it's content coming from an intern."},{"startTime":707.332,"endTime":711.006,"body":"So it's good, but it's not your final product. You never want to"},{"startTime":711.028,"endTime":714.722,"body":"copy and paste directly what's coming out of these tools. And they're learning,"},{"startTime":714.776,"endTime":718.466,"body":"too. I love that analogy because interns are always learning"},{"startTime":718.648,"endTime":722.354,"body":"and absorbing information. So taking that"},{"startTime":722.392,"endTime":725.918,"body":"content and making sure it's in your tone and people don't"},{"startTime":725.934,"endTime":729.538,"body":"realize how much of a difference when you're teaching"},{"startTime":729.634,"endTime":732.866,"body":"the tool of not only who it is, but what sort of tone"},{"startTime":732.978,"endTime":736.722,"body":"to produce and just saying the tone,"},{"startTime":736.866,"endTime":740.214,"body":"and there's many different types of tones that you could be writing in. Knowing what"},{"startTime":740.252,"endTime":743.786,"body":"your own brand voice is makes such a difference in the end"},{"startTime":743.888,"endTime":747.674,"body":"of that output that you're going to. Get I've really played around"},{"startTime":747.712,"endTime":751.082,"body":"with it a lot, and some of my favorite use"},{"startTime":751.136,"endTime":754.734,"body":"cases, I do a lot of zoom calls with"},{"startTime":754.772,"endTime":758.174,"body":"clients and they can be an hour and hour and a half long. And I"},{"startTime":758.212,"endTime":761.454,"body":"put the transcript into Chat GPT and I"},{"startTime":761.492,"endTime":765.082,"body":"say, write a summary, write an analysis,"},{"startTime":765.226,"endTime":768.93,"body":"write this with ten bullet points. And it basically is like an intern,"},{"startTime":769.0,"endTime":772.018,"body":"like you said, it's like an assistant. And it will go through the hour and"},{"startTime":772.024,"endTime":775.246,"body":"a half long transcript and pull things out. Of course, it's not"},{"startTime":775.288,"endTime":778.838,"body":"perfect, but it saves a lot of time"},{"startTime":779.004,"endTime":782.646,"body":"and it saves a lot of energy. I've actually used this on the"},{"startTime":782.668,"endTime":786.29,"body":"school committee. I'm the secretary"},{"startTime":786.45,"endTime":790.086,"body":"for the school committee here, and I've used it to write the first"},{"startTime":790.108,"endTime":793.866,"body":"draft of notes from the meeting. It'll go through the transcript and pull out"},{"startTime":793.888,"endTime":797.722,"body":"the note. It's just incredible. And like you said, the most important"},{"startTime":797.776,"endTime":801.322,"body":"thing is that it does keep learning about you, your"},{"startTime":801.376,"endTime":805.038,"body":"tone, and the more specific you can be. I think with the"},{"startTime":805.044,"endTime":808.426,"body":"tools, it's like garbage in, garbage out. If you're putting incomplete"},{"startTime":808.458,"endTime":811.946,"body":"data into the data set, you're not going to get the most accurate"},{"startTime":811.978,"endTime":815.278,"body":"results. Same with any of these tools."},{"startTime":815.454,"endTime":819.022,"body":"Absolutely. You need to be very clear about your desired"},{"startTime":819.086,"endTime":822.706,"body":"output. So if you want to have a content calendar for the"},{"startTime":822.728,"endTime":826.574,"body":"next 30 days, be very specific. Create a"},{"startTime":826.632,"endTime":830.45,"body":"table of social post copy for Facebook,"},{"startTime":830.53,"endTime":834.358,"body":"LinkedIn, Twitter, and Instagram. And I'm always going to say Twitter, it's never going"},{"startTime":834.364,"endTime":837.56,"body":"to be X. Sorry, that's just how it is."},{"startTime":838.41,"endTime":842.06,"body":"I know. I mean, it is X, but I get it."},{"startTime":842.91,"endTime":846.666,"body":"And then even more so, it's like once you have that first iteration, you can"},{"startTime":846.688,"endTime":850.374,"body":"say, include a column for recommended"},{"startTime":850.422,"endTime":854.25,"body":"graphic, include a column for recommended hashtags. And that's"},{"startTime":854.25,"endTime":857.71,"body":"the other thing is I'll use these tools interchangeably depending on the specific"},{"startTime":857.78,"endTime":861.502,"body":"project. So I'll jump over to Bard and say, identify the top"},{"startTime":861.556,"endTime":865.098,"body":"ten trending hashtags for a no kill animal pet"},{"startTime":865.114,"endTime":868.594,"body":"shelter in Houston, Texas. It'll Give me those, and then I can bring that back"},{"startTime":868.632,"endTime":871.842,"body":"over into Chat GPT, basing my content around"},{"startTime":871.896,"endTime":875.518,"body":"that, taking that first iteration, saying, all right, well, this is"},{"startTime":875.544,"endTime":879.286,"body":"good. Expand upon the first sentence. Make sure to include a"},{"startTime":879.308,"endTime":883.026,"body":"quote from the executive director. There are times where you'll"},{"startTime":883.058,"endTime":886.598,"body":"get that AI hallucination, and that term being"},{"startTime":886.684,"endTime":890.326,"body":"where AI is just completely creating things out of thin air that don't"},{"startTime":890.358,"endTime":894.134,"body":"exist.
