Welcome to Jumpstart Your Career Journey, hosted by Paul Santu and Letitia Robert. Thank you for joining. My name is Letitia and I am with Jumpstart Your Career Journey. Now, although I'm solo today, believe me, you will still receive those same great tips that you received before from us. So today we're going to discuss 11 reasons why you're not getting job interviews. Now, I know that can be frustrating when you're seeking jobs and you're sending out your resumes, but there are reasons why you're not getting those job interviews. And we are going to help you avoid that weight in you're not in the way you're not receiving those job interviews. So the first reason you're not uh getting the job interviews, you're relying too much on job boards and job websites. So those job boards like Indeed and Monster and LinkedIn, you have to think about it. There, along with you, there's thousands of others who are on those sites seeking jobs. So you you may get lost in the shuffle. We suggest that you go now. If there's a company that particularly that you like to work for, go directly to that company website. A lot of these companies have career pages on their websites, and you can apply directly with the uh you know, with the company, and then you you know there's a better chance of you not being lost in the shuffle. So the next reason your resume has responsibilities, but the the the accomplishments are not there. So for instance, you may say you're responsible for something or you let a team, things of that sort. But like uh the best way is you want to ensure that you're letting the recruiters know that you were doing the work and what you accomplished, you know, how that particular company benefited from you working there. So a better way, uh, let's say group company social media following from 900,000 to 2.1 million in nine months. Now that's a big accomplishment. And so the recruiter will know, you know, what you did for that particular uh company. Um another reason is you're trying to send applications quickly and not tailoring your resume. So for instance, the best way is if you're applying for a particular job, you should tailor that that your resume to that job. Show those um highlight, I guess is a better way, highlight those tasks that fit that particular position that you're applying for. Um, that tends to give the recruiters an idea of how you can are best fit for that job. Um, which leads me to my next one is you're applying for positions that aren't a right fit for your background. So um if you're applying for, let's say you're applying for a job in IT, but you've never done IT work before, that's not a good fit. I mean, I know that you may, there may be a chance that you want to change uh change, you know, industries, but the thing is, if you're gonna do that, then make sure that you've you're uh qualified for that position, such as you've um taken classes, you know, maybe you not you don't have the work experience, but you may have taken classes or you interned, volunteered, so that may be a way that that you um you can use um if you're changing that's now that's if you're changing industries, but if you're not changing industries and you're just job syncing, the best thing is to apply for positions that aren't are the right fit for your background. The next um tip is your resume is too long and it's getting skimmed over rather than read closely. Uh, we suggest that the maximum of the maximum pages you should have for a resume is one to two pages. Because if there are lots of pages, recruiters aren't really looking for those. Uh they're they're not, you know, they they take in so many uh resumes, they don't really have the time to really go through a lot of pages. So it's best that you leave it to one to two pages. Also, um use your first eight to ten years of of that particular career. Don't, I mean, you know, if you were barista in college and that was like 20 years ago, that there's no need to put that on your on your resume, especially if that's not the position you're applying for. You know, that that can actually drop off your resume and save you page space. Um, another reason is you're not applying for enough jobs. So, in other words, you may have applied for maybe like three jobs during the and and and you're now you're wondering why you're not receiving job interview offers, you know, you're not receiving callbacks. Now, the thing is, is you know, in this case, less is not more. You want to send out as many resumes as possible. I suggest that you make a plan during the week, like and you say, okay, Monday, Wednesday, Friday, I'm gonna apply for 10 jobs a day, you know, something like that. That that will help you yield a better result. Your next one is you have a large gap within your uh employment. So uh there, you know, you may have had an illness that had you out for a couple of months. So, you know, that may be a reason, even though, you know, although you know those types of things are explainable, you know, for some recruiters don't really want to work with you if you had a large gap. I mean, you could also do, I mean, if now if it's not an illness, something like that that kept you out, I mean, consulting, freelance work, something like that, that could be good to add to your resume. Um, now another thing is you're using a resume objective instead of a career summary. Resume objectives is kind of old-fashioned, so you're you're really dating yourself. Um, career summary highlights some of your biggest accomplishments and qualifications that prove you'll succeed in the next job. Your next one is uh you work, your work experience doesn't appear on the top half of your page. So, like I said, you know, you still want to leave it to one to two pages, but you want to ensure that your work experience is at least on that first page. Like, don't take a lot of space creating your your summary and your skills and things of that sort. You want to be sure to make sure that you have your work experience on that first page because that is what the recruiters are looking for. Okay, your next uh the next step is use a functional resume. Um, you know, people are using um a functional resume as opposed to a chronological resume. So, because you know, the thing is if you if you're leaving it in order, and and you know, then the recruiters know exactly how soon you had those particular skills, you acquired those particular skills. So that is a very good way to uh set up your resume. And my last tip, you're facing some type of discrimination. Now I know that we we don't want to admit that, but some sometimes you're facing some type of discrimination. So say, like for instance, you're in your 60s, you're applying for a job, um, sometimes that it in your, as I said before, your resume is in chronological order. So the it that kind of the recruiters can kind of gauge your age from from that way, and maybe you know, they're they're looking for someone a little younger because they're thinking if you're in your 50s or 60s, you're gonna be retiring soon. So they're looking for someone that's gonna be with the company long term, so you know that may uh you know cause you not to get a call back, unfortunately. Now, hopefully these tips help you, but I do want to let you know if you need help with your resume, check us out.
