Finding Your Spiritual Why: Lessons From David and Bathsheba

A spiritual why is the deeper purpose that fuels our faith, keeping us aligned with God’s will even in moments of weakness. King David, a man after God’s own heart (1 Samuel 13:14), lost sight of his spiritual why when he pursued Bathsheba, leading to sin and suffering (2 Samuel 11). His actions brought devastating consequences, but his story didn’t end in failure. In Psalm 51, David repents, seeking God’s mercy and renewal. His return to faith reminds us that our purpose in God is not defined by our worst moments.

Like David, we may stumble, but God’s grace offers a way forward. When we reconnect with our spiritual why—our love for God, our desire to serve—we find redemption. No failure is final in God’s hands. We are so much better than the worst time of our lives.
