Devotional: Jesus wept—and so should we

CBS News reports that President Trump has fired around 200,000 federal employees across more than a dozen agencies. While some applaud the cuts as gains in efficiency, I must ask: Are these gains worth the human cost?

To follow Jesus is to be moved by loss.

Jesus was close to Lazarus and his sisters, Mary and Martha. When Lazarus died, their grief was overwhelming—and Jesus didn’t stay distant. John 11:35 simply says, “Jesus wept.”

Today, I weep with federal workers who lost their jobs.
 Today, I weep with my friend grieving a beloved dog.
 Today, I weep with my classmate mourning his mother.

To be moved by those who are moved by loss is deeply God-honoring.
 Jesus wept—and so should we.
