Especially in these times. You know, things can feel a little bit chaotic, but I think focusing on the good that AFS is doing by bringing everybody together, it feels really good too.

From AFS-USA, this is The AFS Exchange. I’m Kate Mulvihill. On this show we explore how exchange programs change lives, one conversation at a time.
Over the past 5 years and 50+ episodes, we’ve sat down with global citizens from every corner of our community.
We’ve heard from students navigating the "beautiful mess" of culture shock, and host families who discovered that opening their doors meant opening their worlds.
We’ve explored the history of our organization- from our origins as a volunteer ambulance corps to a global leader in intercultural education.

And so something I always like is that your journey with AFS starts, but it never ends, because it will be with you for the rest of your life.

We’re going to kick off Season 6 returning to the very heart of the AFS mission: our volunteers. Their dedication is what makes this entire engine run.

My grandma volunteered, and my mom volunteered.
We just did it. You know, this is what we could do to promote peace in the world, and if we have the option to do it, we should be helping others. I want to help these kids. I want to see them make a difference in the world. I want to be able to support them, and I want to be able to support my other volunteers, so that way we can keep doing this for a very, very long time. AFS is a really beautiful thing, and I want to keep supporting it in any way I can.
