Welcome to another episode of Rough Talk VR, a weekly podcast with in-depth game reviews, exclusive developer interviews, and the latest MetaQuest and virtual reality news. We join our hosts, the Father Sun team of D Scruffles and Stratus today, as they spend another episode breaking down and discussing the world of virtual reality.
SPEAKER_04Hey, welcome to this episode of Rough Talk VR, coming at you with another edition of VR News. And yes, if you're on video, you will know right away it's another remote episode, but we're finishing up the garage. We're getting pretty close to it. I won't say finished, but tomorrow's tape and mud.
SPEAKER_02Not gonna say one more day of nothing. That always turns into one more one more week. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Any one of these projects the folk shit's done tomorrow. Props to the professionals that budget this stuff out, like schedule-wise, and they go, you know, by this the end of this day, we're gonna have this done because I'm easy to when you're held accountable to it. Hey, we're working hard though. You know, it's just I feel like something always comes up.
SPEAKER_02You know, there's always there's no there's no financial consequence if we don't deliver on time either, unlike other trades where if we don't have to lose the job, not lose the job, you start getting taxed money. Won't mention a company I worked for, you know who I'm talking about, but when I'd have big shit built, you're talking fistfuls of thousands a day. So a week of that, and you just did that shit for free.
SPEAKER_04Well, yeah, we got a couple more pieces of of the wall to put up, and like I said, tomorrow is mud, taping mud. So we're getting there. After that, we just sand it down, we start to paint. We're getting real close. Yeah, no, it's just the finishing stuff after tomorrow.
SPEAKER_01Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_04I'm proud of us, though. This has been uh a bigger project than I anticipated going into it, but we're we're rocking the house. And huge props to Wicked Stewie for coming in and helping. Thank you, Stewie. Yeah, helping us get that ceiling and the walls done. That was a huge lift. So pretty soon we'll be recording.
SPEAKER_02I said which he did bring to get the ceiling done.
SPEAKER_04And pretty soon we're gonna be recording from uh an actual studio. No more of these remote episodes, no more of me and you in a little room in my house. It's gonna be uh an official studio. It's gonna look a luxurious box. Yes, I'm I'm really excited to be able to start to put up shelving and such as well, too, and start to show off decoratively all of the cool swag stuff we've gotten through the years. I feel bad that we ran out of space for it all. Yeah, real quick. We've gotten some cool shit too, like the helmet. The the which game was that? That was V Rider. We got the racing helmet for it.
SPEAKER_02Oh, the motorcycle helmet, and then got the army helmet for oh my goodness, yeah. That was a crazy good gift box. That was too much.
SPEAKER_04So we're gonna be able to actually put this stuff on display, it's gonna be nice. So we're getting very close. But when you think about it, it really kicked off with the Ruffathon last year in November. So, I mean, and look, we were out of commission for a couple months when it was negative degrees outside. Sub Arctic. It's not like it's been over a year or anything like that, you know. It's been sub sub-six months, and you know, we're we're chipping away. We're getting pretty close now. So thank you. Excited to have the studio done. We'll have a dedicated recording space. We can play games together and stuff in there as well. It's gonna be nice. Studios coming along, and I do have to say, this upcoming Friday, you were joking off air like it's news today, but next week, you know, we got bigger things. We'll still have an episode podcast episode a week from now. But this upcoming Friday, as of you listening to this episode, Friday, May 22nd, 1 p.m. Eastern time, live on YouTube. We have the next Rough Talk VR gaming showcase premiering. I'm excited for it. We started to watch some of our drafts in Big Screen Beyond. Not I'm sorry, not big screen beyond, in big screen. Amazing that still nobody's done it better than big screen.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and it's not saying a lot there.
SPEAKER_04Hey, you know what? They get the job done. We can play pop, we can use popcorn with each other. You know what? In fact, I was eating popcorn in there. I wanted to go offer you some yesterday when we were watching our our latest draft. And this asshole over here, you just reached over and you threw my popcorn across the room. You said, P-tah. I don't want any of that. I was shocked it worked. I even made the slap sound. But yes, we're officially watching drafts, it's coming along. Uh, you know, we watched our first couple drafts at the end of the last week, and I'm I'm pretty happy with the way things are coming along. So, showcase coming on Friday, May 22nd. I'm excited for that. And then there's not a whole bunch of news today, but the show must go on. So, going into it, I'm very excited for this one. You were joking that we're probably not going to get an invite, but you never know. If you somebody wants to send tickets this way, your boys are available because the next Meta Connect event was announced. It's taking place from September 23rd to September September 24th. And it seems in the teasers of it that Meta's teasing some new glasses as well. Too, whether that means new Ray bands, new display glasses, or something even greater remains to be seen. But they did say that they'll have quote unquote the latest in VR, wearables, metaverse, and AI. So let's see what's going on. This this meta collect.
SPEAKER_02On what it could be or won't be or might be, and then no one will be right.
unknownYou know.
SPEAKER_04I'm guessing we're gonna see something else from their smart glasses, like a new Ray Bans, some new models and stuff like that. And then maybe the display glasses, like a new model of that. If I had to guess.
SPEAKER_02Or a picture of some VR. No, I mean I it's so far out, dude.
SPEAKER_04What's interesting is that they're now separating VR and Metaverse separately. Metaverse used to just be, you know, all of that shit. Yeah, the blanket for everything. Now VR and Metaverse are separate in their statement. That's exciting. You ask me, that's a good sign of things. It's not all horizon worlds now. Uh yeah, that was a good now. We actually, you know, maybe we'll get some headset news. I'm not banking on it. I'm not getting my hopes up. But hopefully we do have a pretty, pretty good segment related to VR in this.
SPEAKER_02Well, I mean, hey, I'd certainly love to go get those dried mangoes, dude. Delicious. No, I uh it was a good time the last time we went, but I just don't, it's right now so vague with the info. So it could be anything, right? You name three different things, it could be, it could be all of them. Or it could be none of them. It could be none of them, right? It's like I don't know.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, but Metaconnect, the dates are locked in, September 23rd, September 24th. Curious to see if I start to hear developers are going. That'll be like the indicator to me if it's related to our side of the industry. If I start to hear, you know, the walkabouts and the shell games and stuff are going, I'll be like, hmm. Oh, combat. Fingers on the beard, you know, what's going on? If I hear nobody going, then I'm assuming it's not related to VR at all.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, let's see who's going down to it. Okay. Well, either way, I'm excited. Whether I'm watching at home or whether I'm there in the sun. Uh, well, you weren't kidding about the news this week, though, huh? No real major happenings, but this is kind of a good one because I know that the word PSVR2 keeps popping up. People want more of it. I've noticed on showcases when there's something for the PlayStation community, they tend to get a little excited. So, with that, the boys' trigger warning, which did come out on the quest headsets back in March of 2026, and it was known that it was going to come to PSPR2, but it is now slated to come on June 9th of 2026. And there's I'll say it's a rumor. I don't know if it's a fact because the studio is saying nothing about it, but it is marked for PS5 Pro enhanced. Oh wow. So it's always fun. Well, for you and I, it's definitely fun because it just that's now another game that thank god we made the decision we made when we got our PlayStations. Because this would be another one I'd be looking at going, dude.
SPEAKER_04Well, you know how it goes. When you buy the highest edition, you want to feel like you got your money's worth out of it as well, too. So anytime there's a game that comes out with those enhancements, it it feels good. Like it, like you said, it validates the purchase.
SPEAKER_02So they're allegedly also including improvements that were community requested, but I don't believe they're saying what those are.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_02But they're saying that it will include improvements that so it that on paper sounds like the PSVR2 community is actually gonna get a better version of the game than the quest community did.
SPEAKER_04You know, I feel like that's a game that they struggled with the limitations of the quest headset. It's got a 3.7 on the quest store right now with 197 reviews. Perhaps that extra power of the you know, the PS5 unit as well is gonna carry them far in this one.
SPEAKER_02I did hear though they they nailed the vibe of or the feeling of whatever world they're living in there. The boys, yeah, the boys world there. The world of the boys, yeah. Which I still haven't watched. The boys still haven't watched any of the shows. No, unfortunately. That's kind of a bummer. But on the PlayStation side, not a bummer. That's only geez, it's like three weeks away.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, like I said, mixed reception on the quest with a 3.7 right now, but hopefully that that extra power of the PS5 and maybe we had a Steam port as well, too. It's kind of surprising it's not on PC VR if it's out on Quest and coming to PSVR too. But hopefully that extra power carries them far in this one. It's a big IP.
SPEAKER_02We're gonna do a side by side because again, I have a feeling that what we're gonna play on PlayStation may be better. Totally different feeling with it. Especially if they're gonna embody the oh yeah, PS5 Pro enhanced. Of course.
SPEAKER_04I don't know if they had a deadline that they had to meet with the quest release, but it it almost felt like that they ran out of time development-wise. Maybe they had to financially get something out, I don't know. But I I feel like the PSVR2 version might be the quote unquote definitive version, depending on how things go. So hopefully it's better better received on PlayStation than it was on Quest.
SPEAKER_02I think it's gonna be. Well, I mean, if they're listening to the very community that's like freaking out, then yeah. But we're gonna find out in three weeks.
SPEAKER_04Well, on this next one, a game that I know you loved when it was first announced, and they've already done one DLC, and now we're on their second DLC. Well Le Dino Labo. It's a game where you construct dinosaurs using dinosaur bones. You know, you instantly were you were flagging the educational value of this as someone who works in a museum. You're like, dude, if you can learn to our best knowledge, the the bone structure of a dinosaur, like there's some serious educational value in this. And they had already launched one DLC, and now, as of last week, they are out with their second DLC, the Cretaceous Predators and Prey DLC. Brings three new dinosaurs to it, a Velociraptor. Uh, I should let you take this because it's two other dinosaurs that I cannot pronounce, but three new dinosaurs come with this as well, and that follows on their Jurassic Giants pack uh last last month as well. Too so good stuff. This is $3.99 for the DLC on the MetaQuest tour. And I'll get the price of the base game in just a second. But really cool concept that the developers are running here. Same developers as Hide the Corpse and Just Hoops with Realcast. They're onto something with this one. I don't know. I feel like there's something there. Um, the prices are great, dude. Yeah, base game $5.99 for the base game. It's got a 4.9 rating on the quest store, and two DLCs are already out for $4 each. Very fair prices all around.
SPEAKER_02Dude, it's good for all ages, too, because you can put it on super easy mode. Anybody could do it, and you can really jack up your bone count. I mean, if you're into that thing, you know, but like if you're a you know young paleontologist or forgot about stuff when you used to like be into that, it's dude, it's a home freaking run. Only thing I wish is when I made it super size is if it would like run around and shit. Because you can hit it to scale, be like, wow, that's a big friggin' T-Rex.
SPEAKER_04Even their screenshot shows like a T-Rex in scale with the Eiffel Towel Tower. It's cool stuff, man.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, no, I I support exactly and did to hear that when you said what $1.99.
SPEAKER_04Uh $4.99 is or $3.99 is the DLC. Okay. And then the base game is $5.99. That's not bad at all. No, the base games gives you five dinosaurs, and then each DLC, what, three dinosaurs? That's really not bad.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Again, I I support it. I dug it. I'm happy we have it.
SPEAKER_044.9 rating. You know, that says enough on the quest door.
SPEAKER_02Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_04So good stuff there.
SPEAKER_02Uh, that means it probably doesn't even have a one, right?
SPEAKER_04Oh, don't don't ask me the hard questions.
SPEAKER_02No, I was just trying to think of like 4.9. I'm like, I that would mean someone didn't give it a one, I'm guessing. Maybe like a four.
SPEAKER_04I had just closed it out. No, I'm sorry. I'm trying to stall. Nope, it's got 0 4 stars, 0 1 stars, 0 2 stars, 0 3 stars, 92% 5 stars, and 8% 4 stars. That's awesome.
SPEAKER_01Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_04Good for you. If you're buying a game like this, you know what you're getting into as well, too. Like for the audience that loves this type of like, you know, true to life recreations of dinosaurs. This is this is a home run.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_02Well, again, I love it. I I could see not everyone wanting to veer on it, but come on, man, the price can't go wrong. Uh, everyone knows I like a good racing game. Shit, I know you like a good racing game. We were just playing one a couple of days ago. One that you're pretty attached to, and you actually beat me in one of the races. But, anyways, this game I'm talking about is Downtown Club. So it is currently in early access, but the big news about it is it is leaving early access on June 11th, and I'm gonna throw Pico in there too, because it's coming out on both Pico and MetaQuest on June 11th. And they're also gonna throw this will be version 1.4.0, and we're gonna get rain in the game now, which is actually kind of cool, uh, as well as voice chat, which is crazy, it wouldn't already be there. Some AI improvements, slipstream mechanics, which is super important for good racing, and then a handful of some other things that'll be coming. So, dude, good for them. That's uh I'm actually like pretty happy. I'm trying to see like what we got for a current rating. 4.5. That's very been very well received from what I've heard. Dude, racing games are you know it's a tough market. Uh-huh. You don't you you either do it right or you're gonna get crucified. So 4.5 is pretty promising. And to know it's just gonna get a smidge better on freaking June 11th. Dude, June's gonna be a busy month for VR.
SPEAKER_04You know that there's things that aren't even announced yet dropping there, too. We have our showcase coming up at the end of the month.
SPEAKER_02If they're adding in the case, they're getting in-game if they're adding in-game rain and then AI improvements, that means that there's gonna be um detraction, probably adjustments for the slick conditions and stuff. That's pretty because they go a little bit more of the sim side, yeah, as well, too. So I think the article even called it a simcade. Simcade VR racer.
SPEAKER_04It's in between a sim racer and an arcade racer, you know? Simcade.
SPEAKER_02Can I do Grand Turismos or foronza or whatever? Forza. Forza. Yeah, I just props.
SPEAKER_04I've it's a little indie developer on this one, too, and it seems like that they're putting in work on it. And they're getting a results. It's a fantastic rating. Yeah, racing's one of those genres that just works so good in VR, it's like rhythm games and stuff like that, and boxing. You know, there's certain things that just work great in VR, and and racing's definitely one of them.
SPEAKER_02If done right. If done right. I mean, because even those little details like those rear view mirrors and side view mirrors and people crash. Crash physics. Mm-hmm. Oh, huge. Drifting. Flat out, baby. It's kind of amazing. That's that dude has fantastic drifting.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it wasn't on the list of news. I don't that was my mistake as well, too. But I should say that there was a flat out update last week, a pretty major update. Expanded the wheel support quite substantially.
SPEAKER_02Well, aren't are they are they just gonna, I mean, again, I don't know, but I would assume they're just gonna continue adding like they're constantly gonna be adding new wheels, since there's only like what 1.2 million that need to get added.
SPEAKER_04Goodness, I know.
SPEAKER_02But you know what I'm saying? Like, so it is something they're continuing to do, I'm guessing, because it does say it when you start the game. That and I know that's been probably the only great people have had in the earliest of which I meant.
SPEAKER_04Drop some info there, and we're working to get as many wheels as we can. If you buy your wheel on Timu, it's gonna be a while. There's a lot of wheels, and you it's you'd think it's just like you know, add wheel support and it automatically works with all wheels, but no, it couldn't be farther from the truth. No, every pretty much every wheel needs to be pre-configured on the developer side. You know, yeah. And like you were joking with Timu, like there's you have your popular ones like Thrustmaster and stuff, but then there's so many wheels you can just buy, you know, cheap off Amazon or whatever, some off-ass brand that's but scary is when you open up some of those, and guess what parts they have inside them?
SPEAKER_02Pretty much the same ones as the ones that you like Uniden and Radio Shack and very strange. Open up their products and see each other's names in there.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. And this last update, wheel support, massive overhaul. There's but there's a bunch more wheels supported. And if yours still isn't, hop in the Discord on the Steam page and in Discord, we do have a list of supported wheels as well. We've also added multiplayer voice chat to it now, as well, too, and uh custom songs, so you can drag your own soundtrack into a custom folder in the game files and have your own playing during it. Not gonna lie. I'm gonna race. I it's like laser focused. Uh when when drop a podcast in there for me.
SPEAKER_02Other other games have like amazing soundtracks for the don't mean shit. It's awesome. Put my songs in there, but I'll tell you right now, if I'm listening to those lyrics and singing a song, probably not. Yeah, I'm there to win, dude.
SPEAKER_04I get it. I get it completely.
SPEAKER_02There's a reason why in NASCAR is they're not blaring, you know, 2,000 watts stereos. Man's got a job to do, you know.
SPEAKER_04That's funny. You know, so yeah. Uh flat out four update as well, too. Expanded wheel support, custom songs, multiplayer voice chat, and then multiplayer lobby overhaul is in the works as well, too. So cool stuff. Uh now it's reached that time of the show. As always, huge thank you to our Patreon supporters, the people that help us keep our lights on. We appreciate you all, especially through these quiet times as well, too, of the industry. People still hanging on, supporting their podcasts they enjoy. I love I love to see that. So, as always, huge thank you.
SPEAKER_02Don't support them going flat screen.
SPEAKER_04I'm just kidding. Hey, I'm I'm not gonna name names or anything, but you know, there's a we see a lot of creators discuss, and you know, maybe six months ago when we started to see studios close and stuff, there were some creators sitting there going, Oh, maybe I switched to flat screen, and some even did. I was gonna say some have. We're here through the thick and thin. Like us or love us, like we're not going anywhere. When things are hot, we're here when Things are a little bit slower. Guess what? We're here. Yeah. Yeah. It's not fair weather. You learn a lot who's just in there for the views, and the other ones that are here because they actually love the industry. Kind of figured out pretty quick. Yeah. Couple studios start to close. People got real real cold feet. Mic drop. Started talking, you know. Hey, Xbox. You're the best. So huge props to our Patreon supporters, sticking with us through this time. As always, huge thank you to Carson, Espire Mike, Crispy, Tom, Chris, and Danae. Thank you all for your continued support week after week, month after month. And don't forget, you can join the RoughTalk VR Discord for all the latest VR discussion. We drop a lot of news in there as it comes up as well. And you can also join the Patreon by visiting our link in our show notes. That's also where you'll find a link for the Patreon server. And also you can use code word rough talk vr at checkout on the MetaQuest store. Any game, app, or even headset, you can save 10% off on at checkout as long as it's not already on sale by using code RuffTalk VR. R-U-F-F T A L K V R at checkout and save yourself 10%. Not too shabby. And like I said at the start, big stuff this Friday, May 22nd, 1 p.m. Tell your friends it's a Roughtalk VR gaming showcase. Bunch of new announcements, new games, updates, DLCs, little dev diaries, a little bit of everything in there right now. So stay tuned for that. And we'll be announcing our sponsors of the event this upcoming next couple days, actually. Probably the day after this episode airs. So stay tuned for that as well. And now, returning back to the news, a game that was supposed to drop last week, and it was actually even originally supposed to drop a month before that. It's already out on the quest, but made by developer friendly fire studios. It is a co-op horde shooter called a long survive. It's dropping on PSVR, PSVR2, and Steam VR. And with that release will come a massive overhaul on the quest version as well. But honestly, the community reception to it from what I've seen has been very positive because, well, we've seen enough bad launches at this point where we go, man, that developer should have delayed or that wasn't ready yet. I don't think anyone's complaining about a delay, if it means the best game possible. Especially because in their case, they said that they delayed it because they're having issues with the crossplay. And they feel like for their game, crossplay is essential, which I actually do agree for a multiplayer like game like that. You want people to be able to lobby up together and not have dead servers. So instead of pushing out a buggy project, buggy game where maybe we'd have server disconnects and server crashes, they said let's hold on it. No follow-up release date yet. But they'll be announcing soon their next their new release date. I mean, props to them though. Like it's tough. They did it a day before launch as well, too. But people are still excited for the game. If they launched and it was buggy and people couldn't connect together, they were having server drops, no one would have given them a second chance. So a long survive, the update on quests is delayed, and the PSVR2 and the Steam VR launches are both delayed, but for good reason. And hopefully we've got uh an actual release date soon.
SPEAKER_02Well, I commend you for delaying for the the sake of a better experience, but shame on you for waiting the day before.
SPEAKER_04Maybe they thought that they really could pull out, you know.
SPEAKER_02Dude, stop. You know, somebody's gonna be the voice of reason. Maybe they really thought that they might get there. Like, and then at that point, like maybe they even did, but then somebody's gonna be like, Are you comfortable with this? 99% comfortable isn't enough, you know. So I don't know. Just the the only thing I would be like, come on, the dollar sooner, yeah. They probably probably could have done whatever they wanted, but easily, like, there had to be a 72-hour reality. Like, look, all the shit in the world's not gonna make this how we need it for for release. Or something legit happened and was discovered the day before, like, oh my god. So uh it's if it's that's the case, then yeah, I I totally get that. But if it was something like, oh no, dude, we can like you said, we can do it. Teamwork posters on the wall and everything, you know, cap machines double time. You know, no one goes home until it's done. Well, dude, not going home for a month.
SPEAKER_04You know, well, props to the VR community for not shitting on them completely with their now small dude as well.
SPEAKER_02They're doing people on it, that's what's going on. They're like, okay.
SPEAKER_04Like I said, there's been enough bad launches through the years that like I don't think anybody wants to see that.
SPEAKER_02So no, because they can it'll wreck your rep. So they're doing the now. The real thing, you know, is like when you have a delay and then you come out and it's not really good, people go, Well, what the fuck? But I don't think that's gonna be the case.
SPEAKER_04That's that's true. With every delay, so do the expectations they go up.
SPEAKER_02Uh Rockstar, Grand Tab Toto. I I have those expectations. Um, so I I am happy that they did the right thing. So Synthwriters. It seems like Synthwriters is in the news monthly. And why is that? Because they keep staying busy, they keep doing shit. Besides the fact that their catalog has over 188 songs, dude, 81 of which are free. Um, they have a new DLC just dropped. I think you can pick up the songs for $1.99 each or $8.99 for the whole pack, but this is where it's gonna get weird. This was Cluj Interactive and Brace Yourself Gaming bringing uh Crypt of the Necrodancer music pack to Synthriders. So these five songs Disco Descent, Conga, Conga, Conga, Kappa, Rhythmortis, Fungal Funk, and Sticks and Stones. So that is available now, and I'm quite sure the Die Hard Synth Riders fans already have it.
SPEAKER_04Props to them. I know that they had layoffs the other month, but they're this is their second DLC pack following the Dua Lipa one. Yeah. I mean, obviously they've had a lot more than two. I mean like their second DLC pack in the last couple months.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, over over almost uh almost 200 songs, dude. It's a lot. And you can play it on Quest, PlayStation VR2, which is supported, Apple Vision Pro and Steam. So they got all the bases covered. Was that what that was? Oh, I'm sorry to say that out loud. You know what? Beatsaber's like, fuck you, bro. Still paying for my yacht. Still topping the charts. We're not spending money on it, and we're making money. Yeah, so I guess I should shut that up. I just feel there are two players just boycott Beat Saber. Dude, they're not though. That's the problem.
SPEAKER_04It still shows up in the top disrespectful, it's still in the top three of their charts. But I agree. Disrespect.
SPEAKER_02You could easily fix it, just stop playing it.
SPEAKER_04But they went, pata, we don't want you, and people are still downloading the hell out of it. Very unfortunate. But props to Kluge, Kluge, whatever you want to call them. I want to see.
SPEAKER_02I know you did. That's why I had to say it. I actually kind of want to check it out.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I'm not familiar with it.
SPEAKER_04It's a good good game.
SPEAKER_02Very good VR.
SPEAKER_04I am not either, so yeah. Still want to check it out though. So huge props to them for carrying on. And in the news of releases and stuff, Friday nights at Freddy. Sorry. Friday nights at Freddy's. Yeah. What's he doing? Friday night at you ready? Freddy nights at five. Um five nights at Freddy's. Their newest game, Secret of the Mimic, had VR support drop on PlayStation VR2 a few weeks ago on April 28th, with a PC VR version coming soon. However, what surprised a lot of people about it was that when it was first announced and first demoed, like they demoed it at a PAX East convention a few years ago, it was with PSVR2. However, when the game launched, it initially came out flat screen, and it took quite a bit for the VR support to come along. And you know, we're still waiting on PC VR support and quest support will come later this year. This had a lot of people wondering. They went, well, it was first shown off as VR, and then it launched flat screen only with no VR. You know, what happened? And one of the developers came out. He's his name is Rodney Brett. Name him by name, so we know. No, I'm just kidding, that's just what the article thing on, you know, it named him as well, so I'll name it as well. Uh basically, he came out and said that the last five nights at Freddy's VR game did not meet sales expectations, did not sell too well. So the internal decision was made to pivot away from VR for launch of Secrets of the Mimic and go flat screen only. But since they were already so far into development of the VR side, they then decided to outsource it to another studio to finish up the job. Found it very interesting. He had some opinions, which of course opinions are opinions. Everyone's allowed them. Nobody has to agree with anybody's either.
SPEAKER_02Uh but he basically said that what's that? People argue an opinion.
SPEAKER_04Oh, I know. In the end, it's an opinion, so I can't say he's wrong. It's just I can say I disagree with him. And that he said that the first five nights at Freddy's VR game launched at a high of VR, and now we've hit the point where he he said he likens VR very similar to like the racing sim audience that gets hardcore with HOTAs and like you know the sim racing gear. And he goes, People either love that stuff or they hate it. You're either one of those people or you're not. He's like, There's no middle ground with it. I don't know if I agree with that, but you know, definitely we're stabilizing as an industry with like a solid player base. I don't know. I don't agree with his statement, but it's his opinion, is what it is. Uh but yeah, basically, this this five nights at Freddy's game didn't launch in VR right away because the last one did not meet sales expectations, which proves if you want more VR of a game, go support it, go buy it. Because when developers look at their their end numbers, if there wasn't enough VR players to justify the port and the uh the features of it, they're not gonna do it again. So it sounds like the only reason why it came out for Secret of the Mimic is because they already so far along in development for it. So let's see. Let's see if we ever do get the quest version and the PC VR version.
SPEAKER_02One of the cool trends we're seeing more of, this kind of leads right into my next thing with Fixer Undercover. It's actually come into Steam in July for VR support and flat screen support.
unknownWow.
SPEAKER_02So it seemed like early on, like if you were on Quest, you were you were good, you're solid, you're making your money. And people are like, shit, man, we need more. So they're like, fuck, we'll go to PlayStation 2. And if we can go on Steam, but you're still untapping the flat screen market. And we've said it with a there's a slew of VR games that we've played. We're like, this will be really fun on flat screen. And uh obviously the other alternative, take your flat screen game and make it VR. So we might be entering this weird world on both sides of the fence where it behooves everyone to put your game on everything. Kind of like if you don't have TikTok, you're missing out, even if you don't like TikTok. But with that, fixer undercover, wicked cool game. We enjoyed it.
SPEAKER_04One of my favorites of the year.
SPEAKER_02They made some improvements. Um, it's funny, they actually made some improvements after I guess it was played by Upload VR, which is unfortunate. Only real complaint I saw in the article was just you know a lot of grab jank. But they also made it smoother a month later to grab stuff. So I just like the fact you can play this the VR demo right now on Steam, but certainly I like the fact that I kind of want to play it on flat screen, too.
SPEAKER_04So look, it's a good it's a good puzzle game. I think it will work on all platforms.
SPEAKER_02Just to play flat screen. I won't even play it in the VR support. Because I think it'll it'll be still good.
SPEAKER_04I think it'll hold up. They have not every game, but I think this one will work. They have Winston. Winston's such an iconic character. I could see him catching on with the flat screen players as well. It was a well put together, polished game. And like the reality is we'll talk about this a little bit later in the episode with another news piece as well, but studios have to stay alive. Like, I don't think this is gonna be the end that we're seeing VR studios bring their games to flat screen, and that doesn't mean they're abandoning VR support or anything. It's like in the end, homie's gotta get homie's gotta put food on his plate, you know.
SPEAKER_02You have to put it everywhere someone's willing, or they can prove you can make money on it, then you're bringing your game there. And if you're arrogant enough to be like, I'm not, which some people have their game's not around anymore.
SPEAKER_04You look at a game like Ghost Town, I think Ghost Town would work flat screen.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, dude, there's a ton of games. Almost every flat screen game I play would be good in VR. So why wouldn't it work the other way around, too?
SPEAKER_04There's some games that are like you can tell it was made for VR, like it feels the best in VR. Graphically, yes, but there's no reason that some of these games, and like if it keeps the studios alive and it lets to them leads to them making more VR games, I support it in the end, you know? And I know this is a game launched that you've been so excited for. Like I said, since that trailer, it is set to launch on Quest 3 headsets on May 18th this week, in a few days, and the PC VR versions also in development coming soon. It says that you play as a young lawyer in the early 1900s investigating an air mail transport company, and the investigation in the story is going to go across 10 years of the company's history. So let's see. Uh you're gonna you're gonna take control of different pilots and their planes throughout the story as well, too. I don't know, man. I'm excited for this one. I know you've been excited for it, and it's finally launching on the Quest tour this week with a Steam version coming soon. I'm excited for it. Made by developer Super AC Games as well, too.
SPEAKER_02Gotta play. It's been a year, man. Has it been a year? Maybe less than a year. It was December, the last one I started sight on scene. I'm like, oh man. When I saw the it was they were on our showcase, and I was like, mm-hmm. Looks very good to play to me.
SPEAKER_04Even a couple weeks ago, dude, you're asking me about it. You're like, so whatever happened to that flying game. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02But here we go. May 18th. The fact we got news on it, I'm I'm happy. And that's and it's right around the corner. People, today people are hearing this.
SPEAKER_03Holy shit, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it's Monday. A Monday launch is very weird for the Quest Store, right? Like that's not common at all. Uh no.
SPEAKER_02I'm trying to think of the last Monday launch I've heard of.
SPEAKER_04Well, I wish them luck there.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I'll be playing it. So, anyways, I'm sure I'm quite sure you want to play it. So, meta public test channel, otherwise abbreviation. PTC. PTC. So, if you want to know what does that mean, just public test channel. Sometimes those abbreviations sound a lot cooler. Then what I'm down with the PTCG. So they would sometimes features come there though that don't necessarily roll out to the consumer level, hence why it's a test channel. And sometimes some really cool shit gets rolled out there, and then some of the people who test it go, well, that's weird, it never happened. But this is kind of a cool one. A little late to the party, I guess, by all things considered, but the ability to take, let's say, an image from a website, 2D image, and turn it into a 3D stereotypic type image using some 3D based conversion. So I I do like this is just I'm glad we get a glimpse of what's going on in the the test channel, but at the same time, it's like this is something that needs to roll out to the headsets. You dig it's like this is something that non-VR gamers would non-VR gamers would would friggin' be all over. I wanted this years ago. Just so you could take current, like you know, you go somewhere, you took a bunch of pictures, well, three Dude.
SPEAKER_04You want a nice hot a nice hike, got beautiful landscape shot of the woods.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Now the trees are popping out to you.
SPEAKER_02So a cool thing for the PTC folks, not necessarily an awesome thing for the consumer folks, but we'll see if this is one that squeezes in.
unknownCool.
SPEAKER_02It has a place.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I think it's one of those features that, like you said, the sooner it can get off the PTC, the better. Like, because that's probably one that'll just add to somebody putting on a headset, that wow factor, they can see all their photos go to 3D, is pretty, pretty freaking epic.
SPEAKER_02Especially if you can you're doing it in real time. Like, hey, check us out. See this website, click, look at this. Like, wow, you know, or maybe I'm just overhyping something really cool, but I like the 3D image.
SPEAKER_04So no, I like the potential of it. So this next one, quickie here, but it follows a bit on what we were saying earlier with fixture undercover. Like I said, we're gonna see more and more studios, my opinion, start to put their games on flat screen just to keep their studio live. One of those is Polyarc Games that the other month they announced some studio layoffs, some pretty significant studio layoffs, as well as the cancellation of a quote unquote major project that they were working on. Well, they announced that they are bringing Moss, the iconic Moss, one of the most popular VR games ever, with their what I would say, their mascot, Quill, is now coming to Flat Screen. Title under Moss, the Forgotten Relic. It's gonna be coming to PS5, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, and Xbox. And it's going to bring all of the Moss content, both the first game and the second game, together into one title, and launch it on Flat Screen. And I think a game like this on the Switch, dude, cute little puzzler top down, there's a lot of potential here. I could see this doing well on Flat Screen, and if it's enough to keep their studio alive, that maybe one day we get a Moss Book 3 or something like that, in hybrid, both VR and Flash screen, like there's nothing to hate on here. They have to keep their lights on. And if this is the lowest lift way for them to do that, without you know, all the team members that they unfortunately had to lay off. I I support this. I think this could be pretty big for Polyarc, actually.
SPEAKER_02Um again, another another revenue source. I think it'll do well.
SPEAKER_04It's like, why not, right? You're kind of leaving money on the table by not.
SPEAKER_02I mean, it's that I just think that's the times we're in. You just flat screen can't survive on flat screen. Screen and VR can't survive in VR. Not saying that some don't.
SPEAKER_04No, it's a tough time for both for all sides of the industry. Correct. I saw some people saying, like, oh, polyarch turning their back on our VR folk. Like, no, bro. They have to just keep their lights on.
SPEAKER_02Do you want there to still be a polyarch? I was gonna say, do you want to see the article of how they they downsized by half? People are weird, dude.
SPEAKER_04Let them swing some Hail Marys. There was just today there was some news that uh we love them too. Man. May's theory. Looks like that they're lining up to go insolvent.
SPEAKER_02And uh boy, the language they use out in the UK is confusing.
SPEAKER_04Right the administrators.
SPEAKER_02Administrative. Yeah, they're I'm like, oh wow, they're promoted.
SPEAKER_04Appointment of administrators, but no, they're pointing somebody to handle uh pretty much the selling off of your assets. It still looks like Project Hail Mary is gonna launch their next upcoming game, but damn, we loved we love Mayus Theory. Those guys are awesome over there. I don't think it'll be the last of them. No, I think they're gonna be like a Phoenix rising from the ashes.
SPEAKER_02Most, I mean, honestly, most companies lose it many times over. The difference is that they bounce back, you know, and not everyone else can.
SPEAKER_04You have me laughing with you because I had the same thought. I'm like, this is a new term. I've heard of businesses closing and stuff like that. Appointment of administrators. I was like, what in the world is going on here?
SPEAKER_02So I read it and I was like, because it showed up in our Discord.
SPEAKER_04I'm like, what another plug to go check out the Rev Talk via Discord. Get the almost there.
SPEAKER_02I almost asked Henry, like, is this a bad thing? I mean, to me, it's if I went to work and they're like, yo, this is I'd be like, right on, man, how much do I get for it? And then I had to like admittingly Google and be like, oh, okay, this isn't a good thing. We just have different terms. It's called bankrupt and liquidate. You know, it's pretty cut and dry. We're liquidating your assets.
SPEAKER_04And how ruthless is there? Is it that you go bankrupt, right? You're selling off your assets, and you have to because it said that the administrator gets paid out from the business assets.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_04You're going bankrupt, and you still gotta pay one more new guy.
SPEAKER_02They gotta pay the guy to pay off my bills. Pay off the guy that's liquidating us. How ruthless is that? Taking all my hard-earned shit.
SPEAKER_01Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, no, it's sad, dude. I was a little bummed about that. But I have a belief in the the people behind them as a company to be like, uh, if I did some digging, they probably had some bumps in the road.
SPEAKER_01Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_02But damn.
SPEAKER_04Well, they were so IP heavy as well, too. And they still are in, too. Yeah. I'm sure that there's like quite a big cut in all that, too. So yeah, that sucks. But moss coming to flat screen, and if you still want there to be a polyarc, go support them on this endeavor. I don't think they're abandoning VR, I think they just got to keep the lights on.
SPEAKER_02Oh man, I'm trying to think of how to be positive now. So we we had heard about Meta was gonna integrate AI into their uh Web XR coding and experiences to make life easy for coders. I heard it, I know you heard it. I was actually kind of excited about it because I'm like, wow, does that mean anybody can do it? Not necessarily. Um I'd actually like to talk to someone like Spoon who's like really in it and see is like is it is it truly something you would use, or is it you know something like people like me would use who don't know what they're doing? So basically, and to prove it's flex, they had um something in 2022 called Project Flower Bed, which was made up of tens of thousands of lines of code, but using this new SDK AI workflow, it did it in 15 hours. So dude, this thing's insane. It's a agenic workflow powered by coding assistants like Claude Code, cursor, GitHub, copilot, and codex. And it'll not only like write and look at code, but it'll look for mistakes too. It'll test and validate. It'll test and validate the lines of code. So I mean, I don't yes, it's AI, but I don't know how this could be a bad thing for a developer who's staring at this shit constantly. I mean, because it can search out a problem, right?
SPEAKER_04I feel like coding is probably one of the areas of AI, the current AI craze that will remain when the dust settles.
SPEAKER_02Well, that's why I I figure Spoon's probably the best one to ask, right? Because he he legit. I mean, that dude's staring at this shit constantly. And we know he has found code that's not worked in other people's shit. So is this something that he looks at and goes, about freaking time, you know, because this is all the mundane shit that we waste time on. But if you are interested, it's called the IWSDK. Immersive web SDK. I'm I kind of like the idea behind it. I just hate the thought that like they're like, yeah, it works, but you know, that was 8,000 people.
SPEAKER_04You might not be able to buy a new computer or any RAM. There might not be new consoles dropping, but we got agenic inputs for our code.
SPEAKER_02Dude, agenic workflow. I'm gonna try to squeeze that into my work conversation next week. I feel like we would be my weekly goal.
SPEAKER_04Is that your like you got a meeting? Some where this week can I say agenic workflow?
SPEAKER_02I'll figure it out. Okay, you know that things would run so much smoother if we had a true agenic workflow here. And then you know, I dude, I know how people are, they'd look at you and they'd be like, mm-hmm, mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_01You'd be like, I agree with what Brian said.
SPEAKER_02What is it? Tell me what it is. Like, I don't know. I was just agreeing with you to agree. You were shaking my head.
SPEAKER_03I agree with what Brian said there, right?
SPEAKER_02Oh man, I love people, they're funny. Yeah, I'm gonna use that word next week. Agenic workflow. I'll use it in a memo or a conversation or something. 100%. I'll see if it makes my life easier. I might be unemployed next week.
SPEAKER_04That's funny. Well, I think that was your last bit of news, right? Yeah, really. I guess to close up mine on my end. Speaking of meta with their meta connect, teasing something with glasses, who knows what that means. But it seems Samsung is getting ready to show off their first pair of smart glasses at their Galaxy Unpacked event on July 22nd. Maybe trying to get a little ahead of Meta. But let's see, it's their first version, you know. And I'm not even gonna say not rightfully so, like in some cases, rightfully so, they are always constantly under fire. But I do feel like when you look at some of these technologies, like AR, AR, AI, and VR headsets, I feel like they do have a lot of the rest of the industry on the back foot, tech spec wise. Like they're so far ahead with smart glasses and like their version of display glasses. I'm skeptical that what Samsung puts out is going to surpass what Meta shows off in September. But I am also a believer that the more players on the market, the better, especially for people that go ill face to anything associated with Meta. So, and the reality is more smart glasses are just gonna push the overall competition for this technology up too, and it'll cause everybody to innovate better, including both Samsung and Meta. But yeah, seems like we're gonna get a first look at Samsung's first pair of smart glasses on July 22nd. Let's see. They just did the Android XR headset last year, again on the back foot of both Meta and Apple there, and now smart glasses, July 22nd.
SPEAKER_02Giving showing something prior to meta is not necessarily gonna work out for you. Because if you don't know what they're gonna show, and they can take everything you showed and be like, ah yeah, we of course we have that.
SPEAKER_04There's plenty of time from July to September. Well, not plenty of time, a bit over a month. And they can, you know, whatever Samsung shows, I'm sure it's gonna be if they're one-upping meta anywhere, I'm sure Meta is going to make it their highest priority to one up there.
SPEAKER_02That's a scary game. I wouldn't play that with them. But I agree with you. Another person coming into the the playing field is only gonna help the consumer, especially with prices.
SPEAKER_04So fun stuff, not our most stacked episode at all, but we do have an early day tomorrow working on the new studio. Yeah, hell of an exciting Friday. Yes, and then we have our next Rough Talk VR showcase coming on Friday, May 22nd at 1 p.m. Eastern Time with games like Nights of Fiona, Exoshock, new VR games being announced. A whole bunch going on. Stay tuned for that. I'm very excited. You can find that live on our YouTube channel. And yeah, stay tuned for more from the Rough Talk VR folks. Anything you want to say before we wrap this baby up?
SPEAKER_02No, I'm just excited to go to bed and do some work tomorrow. Yes, and then we're almost there in person so we can be more lively.
SPEAKER_04Then we're back to full blown, and we'll be again in an actual studio. I feel like it's gonna be a good vibe. Like I'm excited to start doing the interior decoration, decorating of it all.
SPEAKER_02Hell yeah.
SPEAKER_04Dude, we have five years. We just passed our five-year anniversary as well, too. We're coming up on it in a couple days. I think it's May 19th. We have a lot of shit to show off in that studio. Five years worth stuff. There will be studio space, and we still gotta talk about some sort of celebration we're gonna do for five years.
SPEAKER_02So yeah, Tracy wants the Brazilian barbecue for that meal we promised them like her and Kelly years ago.
SPEAKER_04That's that's weird. I think I'm freezing. Zencaster must be messing up again. I can't hear you. I don't see you anymore. Well, I guess we'll wrap it up there. Uh thank you all in Brazil. No, yeah, we can do that. We can do that.
SPEAKER_02Their prices went up 60 59 or 60 now, I think.
SPEAKER_04Everything's everything's gone up. Which I'll see oxygen.
SPEAKER_02I would never tell them, but I'd pay $100 for that service.
SPEAKER_04I'm gonna mute your ass. All right, every everything's gone up. All right, so thank you all for tuning in. Stay tuned for something fun that we're gonna do for our fifth year. Stay tuned for updates on the new studio, it's coming along fast, and definitely check out the Rough Talk VR YouTube channel this Friday, 1 p.m. Eastern time for our next Rough Talk VR showcase. All right, other than that, we will check you all out next week. Ciao, ciao. Adios.
