Welcome to another episode of Rough Talk VR, a weekly podcast with in-depth game reviews, exclusive developer interviews, and the latest MetaQuest and virtual reality news. We join our hosts, the Father Sun team of D scruffles and stratus today, as they spend another episode breaking down and discussing the world of virtual reality.
SPEAKER_02Hey, welcome to this episode of Rough Talk VR, coming at you with a remote edition of VR News. We are remote today on Saturday, July 4th, America Day, 4th of July, 250th. Hue the Team America. America. I agree with what you had said before, probably too early in the episode to start dropping F bombs. Yeah, you never know. YouTube wants to absorb that.
SPEAKER_01We need a little green light that lights up. Like, okay. It's been five minutes. You guys are clear. You know, kind of like a landing strip.
SPEAKER_02Makes sense. So we're we're recording this today. So that way tomorrow, on Sunday, we can spend the whole time on Sunday working on the studio. Because we are getting close. Figure having a full dedicated day to it versus recording first, then getting to it. We're gonna make significant progress tomorrow. So I'm excited for that. We both are off today, with it being the fourth, it's Saturday. Usually work on Saturday, but it's America Day, so here we are, and yeah, just seemed appropriate to bang this stuff out. Especially as it's not really uh stacked news, you know, like four or five PCs. And to make it worse, since I was on a trip to New York all last week, left on on Monday, back on Thursday, now today's Saturday. We haven't really had much grim time at all, so we don't really even have our grim stories that we've been doing the last couple of days.
SPEAKER_01No, the only grim story we have is the the base that was allegedly gonna be raided. That was the last we knew. Because they they're angry at us for stealing stuff we didn't steal, and then we rebuilt a base. And I never went back to see if those people came back to take this base down. What are you calling it the Schrodinger's base? Yeah, both exists and doesn't exist. Oh, it killed me too, dude. I'm like, oh even Tracy was like, just go in and see if it's there. I'm like, I don't want. Because if it's not, I'm gonna be a little bummed.
SPEAKER_02Well, what happened? Yeah, we came back on, we made a new base. Yeah. I had the same guy kill me three times. Dude's a dick. Name was Tweaker. Tweaker. Oh, he was a tweaker. It's wipe day. You see a naked guy running around and you kill him three times. Come on, bro. So I was hoping to at least get us the metal door and the keypad, which I had more than enough metal to do. I was on my way back each time, and this guy just kept killing me. Same dude with a crossbow every time. I was so annoyed. So we have a base, just no metal door and no keypad. I mean, what are you gonna do? You know, I got a little too vocal. I I shouldn't talk about my route anymore. I feel like now there's all of a sudden people on there.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and you know what's really weird. I'm not gonna say where I was or what I was doing, but you heard me saying it this is not at all populated like it should be in this area. I'm like, huh.
SPEAKER_02Digging the vibe. Yeah, I described the route I run. Now I went from not seeing anyone on it to I haven't been able to do the route the last two times I played. People just keep killing me. Yeah, you gotta take a long way around. Yep. So that was just brutal. I'm staying quiet now on that stuff, but we at least have a foundation of a base with you know enough resources for a couple days.
SPEAKER_01So uh it's a pretty good one. Unless, unless that same group comes back from last week and because right now it's I mean it's vulnerable with the door. There's there'll be a couple of doors, but no, I have a feeling these are C4 plane dudes.
SPEAKER_02So I was waiting for somebody to come in and like it's happened to us before, blast our door down while we're trying to build a metal door, you know, blast our existing door down and be like, build a better door, and then just leave. Happened a handful of times. Grimpie brutal. What are you gonna do? But I'm excited to see how far we can get. And this wipe cycle will be a little slow. I feel like this wipe cycle is gonna be getting the rhythm back since we missed last week, and then next wipe will be our real continuing where we left off, type of thing. Yeah, no, no, no. I knew last week was gonna be rough, so it's hard to take almost a week off and then come back and yeah, be more brutal. But I'm having fun with this still, still thinking about it when I'm not playing it. Yeah, I gotta give a a poke to Spoon, see what's up. Yeah, we gotta get Spoon back on soon. Somebody even commented it on our last video we did saying, hey, last time you interviewed Spoon, you said that you were gonna do another interview.
SPEAKER_01We did.
SPEAKER_02Where is he? He doesn't want to talk to us. No, I'm kidding. He didn't say that. He might say that, but he didn't say that. He's probably like, dude, now you guys start playing the game every every day?
SPEAKER_01Now that's a good thing. Because now we played, dude. We played it in beta. Freaking loved it, loved it since the first time. I loved it when I thought it was done and it was far from done. So I I am a little biased in it, but I've loved it every step of the way. But the fact that okay, now say we took you know a good solid months off, blah blah blah, other than just hopping in to see changes and stuff, but going in with intent and we're loving it, that says something for the game. So if you buy that game today, you're gonna friggin' love it. If you bought it a year ago, you're gonna love it. I'm just happy we have a good good reason to go back in.
SPEAKER_02Game stable. I haven't had any server issues or anything like that. Occasionally I have an item clip into the ground a bit. That's probably the only thing that I've walked into.
SPEAKER_01It's only happened, I think, with my bow. And then sometimes I like I forget that if if you if I forget that like I might drop it sometimes, and then I can never find it again, dude. Oh, that I can like I've dropped it outside, like, and I don't know how I'm doing it. I think it's just in the heat of the moment.
SPEAKER_02Trying to find it. This happened to me with a pickaxe. I'll keep it in my hand as I'm hitting metal things as I come across them, and I accidentally drop it, and it's nighttime, and I go, I'm never gonna find this. And you'd think I'd keep my torch on me, but I usually throw my torch away.
SPEAKER_01No, to me, that's valuable space. That's inventory space, yeah.
SPEAKER_02I'm never walking around with a torch. Are you kidding me? That is the biggest come kill me sign.
SPEAKER_01Dude, 100%, especially if you get a gun.
SPEAKER_02I like running at night. No one can see me. You got you got this torch. You're out of your mind if you think I'm gonna turn that thing on.
SPEAKER_01I get creeped out when I'm outside harvesting wood and stone, and because I'm making a shit ton of noise by doing that. Then you see a shadow way in the distance. I'm like, oh, geez. That's when I turned my mic on and I'm like, all right, dude, hold on. I might have to talk to somebody.
SPEAKER_02I do love how much the gift of Gab has saved us. Like rolling prison checks in the back.
SPEAKER_01There's nothing you were gonna say to Tweaker that was gonna make him not kill you. I know. He's just fucking psychopath, like getting nothing out of it. Oh no, he got stuff out of it. Well, I had inventory. I forgot. Yeah, you were pretty jacked that first time for sure.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but I'll remember this. You gotta keep it people like Big Mac, they're cool. Big Mac's not not on my kill list. Tweaker?
SPEAKER_01Big Mac and green eggs and ham there.
SPEAKER_02Look, we're just gonna get better at the game.
SPEAKER_01Oh, tweet Tweaker. If I ever find out where he lives, he's just getting C for it every every Thursday night.
SPEAKER_02Every wipe, yeah. He has no idea what he's poking at.
SPEAKER_01I'll start taking Fridays off just to play till three in the morning.
SPEAKER_02Because people like Tweaker to me are count 100%, dude. Dudes run around naked, you kill him. Imagine if I was a new player, you think I'm gonna play the game again?
SPEAKER_01Well, not that night. Um yeah, no, no, no. I feel like there's an obligation for the season player because there's enough of them in those servers on wipe that I mean they can they can police within like two hours, these dudes got horses and fucking guns and hazmat suits. It's like they pretty much are the cops at that point and the the military. They can do what they want. What are you gonna do? Take them out with your bow and arrow?
SPEAKER_00Boom!
SPEAKER_01Two of them.
SPEAKER_02They're a whole clan that tries to be law enforcement, tries to be like the the sheriffs, the the town sheriffs, you know. They see a base getting raided, you see three horses coming in, you know.
SPEAKER_01Nah, I want to see a clan offer server protection, but take it to the extreme, and they show up at your base at a certain at a certain time, and there better be a freaking gift package outside with a certain amount of stuff in it. And if you're ever caught stealing, they'll just make your life a torture as hell, and you gotta pay like tax like a a royalty system. I've seen that go down in some Rust servers, man. It's pretty fucking crazy. No, I mean, but I I do agree. All jokes aside. I mean, having a clan take over a server would be dangerous, but it would be cool to see a day one, you know, let people get a little bit let them get basic shit. Some cloth and wood and stone, maybe some tools. I don't know. It'd be cool if they had a built-in rule where if you didn't build a weapon, technically you can't be killed and you can't kill. But the second you build that weapon or like a 30-minute timer, it's like dude, think of 30 minutes is you can do a lot. 30 minutes if you can't have a legit base, you you're doing something wrong.
SPEAKER_02I like community enforced behaviors. Like, let's just all agree as a community a wipe day, let's give each other 24 hours, but it won't happen. It's all get we no, there's psychopaths out there. There are a handful, not everywhere, dude.
SPEAKER_01A lot of the people I meet are great. I mean, dead out.
SPEAKER_02No, dude, there's even one time we're about to say the community is like non-toxic. Remember that rocks for all guy?
SPEAKER_01Like oh, rock forever.
SPEAKER_02Rock forever. That's right. Rock forever.
SPEAKER_01I think I think that's what the name is.
SPEAKER_02I was actually hoping to see see him when we went in the other day, but I'm hoping to see Big Mac and 6,000 Stone and 3,000 Scrap, because that seems to be how he rolls. No, I I started finally watching because I'm a big fan of Fallout, the Fallout games. Finally got around to starting to watch their TV show on Amazon because I always heard really good things about it. I'm on season finale of season one, and it reminds me so much of just the behavior in the wasteland. Everyone just being can't trust anyone. I'm like, but I feel like I'm playing grim right now. That's as real as it's gonna get, right? Oh no, shit falls apart. Yeah. The the scariest thing you can bump into is a single other human out there while you're alone, you know? In a little like small town, that's one thing.
SPEAKER_01Fuck yeah.
SPEAKER_02But you're walking around this you're walking through the uh through the woods or some open field and you see another human and it's the apocalypse. That's that's the worst thing that you can bump into.
SPEAKER_01There's city streets I some some of the city streets I drive down and go to work, and it's a blatant choke point. Like right around my work area. You know the area. There's two streets, they're kind of like the same way, but let's be dead honest. Something goes south in front of you, you're you're screwed. It's a it's a blatant choke point. It's one of the only streets I go down on my way to work that I've like no. I'm weird. I don't get on people's bum. I always leave enough space if I got a curb hop and go over something or back up or whatever. But no, every every morning I go down a street and I'm like, fuck. Anybody could be a victim on this road. With no effort. It's our way. No, imagine if civilization fell, you know. Yeah, no, I would avoid that whole area. You because you could own it. If you're if you live there and shit went bad, you already have an advantage. You just have to decide. It's like setting a trap in your trap base. Being like, oh, I'll just decide what I want and when I want. I'm hungry. Just go outside and take. Because people aren't gonna be able to do shit. Oh, it's terrible. Frightens me.
SPEAKER_02People that have uh a positive outlook on how humans would behave in apocalypse scenarios just need to go play Rust, go play Grim. No, play any one of these online survival games, and you will see. You can't even trust people in Avatar form. Go watch, go let alone if they were hungry. I mean, yeah, the zombies stop being the problem. You figure those out real quick. It's those people, it's real messed up.
SPEAKER_01They'll haven't figured out those people. Real mess stuff. It sucks. It sucks knowing that. You would hope it doesn't have to be that way. But dude, even role-play servers that have fucking A-Z rules, you know, no swearing, no violence, no stealing, no blowing up, you know, just go farm. And there's there's like a one percent that go in there, just start fucking shooting people and blowing shit up. People like, hey, you're not supposed to do that, man. And I'll fucking pow, shoot you too, and then they get banned. They don't give a fuck, they just move on to the next server, you know. That's what sucks, is there's always that one percent, but you need that one percent, or else that person that is really nice and friendly, you wouldn't appreciate. You'd be like, you know, wouldn't have any gauge. So I don't have a solution for Grim, dude, other than we just gotta go in there and rough it and hope that hope that you can network with enough cool people that you know, hey, they might blow up your base, but they're not gonna do it on day one.
SPEAKER_02That's the only reason that I haven't voted to change our base location, keep it on the same square that we have been, because I'm like, some cool people know where we're at.
SPEAKER_01The only person that has beef with us has beef with us for the wrong reason, for no reason.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, if it was something we stay in, like if something we're doing, yeah, dude.
SPEAKER_01I would understand. I they could have listened to last week and I would have been like, ah, we were right, dude. We were fucking stealing all their shit. Ha ha. You know, but no, dude, I'm still a little offended. It's a game. Who cares?
SPEAKER_02So, on to the actual news now. And like I said, there's not a whole bunch this week by any means. So I hope you enjoyed the Grim Talk, and we'll check you out next week. No, I'm just kidding. Uh, this one's pretty cool just on a technical aspect. There is a mixed reality horror game, scary game, ooh, scary monsters, called Hontify Mixed Reality on the MetaQuest. It is $7.99. It's been out for some months now already. I mean, it actually came out technically in February 2022, so it's been out for some years now, one might even say. Well, they've recently teased a new feature coming to the mixed reality mode, which is multiplayer, and allows one person, the host, to set up the game in mixed reality. So they're seeing their house, and then other players get to join from a VR recreation of that environment. Obviously, it won't know, you know, that's your TV and everything. It just lay out the layout of the mixed reality environment that's scanned, but they're playing in VR. So basically the host plays in mixed reality, sees mixed reality, and the the players joining the server to play with the host, they play in a VR environment with that same layout. I thought that was pretty cool. That's a cool way to handle multiplayer for a mixed reality game. That's always the question, like, well, how do you do it if it's mixed reality? Do you do it so it's only co-location, which can be tough because you know, usually people are playing VR headsets remotely, you know, separate from each other. So having one one person's view be the mixed reality environment and the other people's view be a VR recreation, I found that to be very creative. And this was done via developer virtual go, all one word. And yeah, that's cool that it takes this the scanned real world space and does uh a VR recreation layout wise of it as well. Too I thought that was really nifty. I just don't like mixed reality and horror. Those two things should never be using. If you do it with your friends, it might be a little less scary.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm I'm down with I get that. But you know, I don't want to look at areas of my house differently or think I never knew that could have happened around that corner. You know what I'm saying? They're fucking nightmares.
SPEAKER_02But and this this update bringing multiplayer and you know, the this aforementioned VR recreation of your scanned environment, those are planned to launch in virtual o virtual go's games in 2027. They have three games Hontify, Mishdrift, and FP, FPS Enhanced Reality. And it looks like uh the multiplayer and these features are coming to all of them, which is really cool. There was a temporary code, discount code for AWE that may or may not still be active. I'll put it in the episode description. It's AWE 2026 hyphen 878 AEE. So good luck, good luck typing that all in, but I'll put that in the episode description as well in case the code still works.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_02Remember when those discount codes first dropped on the quest, and like there'd be a creator specific one, it'd be like Roughtalk VR X7Y429 hyphen 7YK. Like wow, yeah, it was a lot. Yeah, it was asking a lot. So I ended reading it off like a bunch of dweebs.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, just but well, I mean, because not everyone's gonna go and look for a link, I'm sure. But whatever's being try to appease everyone, do our best. Um in trying to do their best. I guess this isn't this isn't like breaking news because technically you could still use Discord on your quest. Um, but now you can get the Discord app for your quest and use Discord on your standalone headset natively, I'll say, and it can run in the background as you enjoy your games. And here's where this is gonna go real south, because according to Upload VR, I have not installed it, I have not tried it, but they put it in some rough state. Uh Mike specifically tried it with a handful of games, and there was issues pretty much with every game he tried, so it seems like it's it's using a lot running in the background. It also will come allegedly with a month of nitro. But again, there's a lot of people saying that if you've already had nitro or own nitro, then it you won't get the free free month with it. You get nothing if you were to sign up by September 30th, I guess. So I mean they've got some work to do, but it's there. It just sucks that like there's I found nothing really in the article from upload that made it like you need to go out and get this right now. The sounds like, yeah, it works, but as far as streaming goes and all that, you're it it's probably gonna crash on you. You're gonna you don't want it running in the background.
SPEAKER_02So would who'd have thought that Discord would use that much RAM that it's struggling with?
SPEAKER_01I mean I I don't even know if it's that or the doing the um you know, trying to do the voice calls and the the streaming and such. Apparently the quality of the calls isn't bad, but there's no guarantee it's not gonna crash. So that kind of sucks.
SPEAKER_02I have yet to hear anyone say that it's like very well done, but it's good that it's out, you know. They're they're responding to reviews on their store page.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, no, I I have faith they're gonna they're gonna they'll fix all the little things, but you don't know until the masses are really hammering it, right? Just what could I but I don't know, man. If it's really hawking up a lot of ram.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I'm seeing a lot of people in the store page reviews talk about crashing. Might be a no for me.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, at least for now. I just I because I don't I don't need to, you know, I don't need to cook a headset just to be on Discord while I'm playing. I don't know why I would. Like why why would I want to?
SPEAKER_02I could see crossplay games that are PC VR and Quest. I would use easy way to party chat with everyone. Yeah, but apparently it's not. Well, in in in theory, if it was working good, yes. I can't in Trillo, man. You know, I could see the potential of it. Man, I I'd love no event you see. To be like that was the go-to for my MMO days and stuff. Vent was so ahead of its time.
SPEAKER_01I had a huge Ventro um huge Ventro server, and I had Europe settings in there and shit. You can still use Ventro, it's just not very popular anymore. No, but good googlymoogly if it didn't work good. I had no issues. Tight sound quality. The amount of people you could have in the main channel too. Yeah. Private channels.
SPEAKER_02I'm surprised that they got lapped the way they did by Discord because they seem so ahead of their time.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I mean, I guess shame on them.
SPEAKER_02Ventrillo getting lapped is like IRC channels getting taken out too. It's like they were so ahead of the curve, and then nobody talks about IRC channels anymore.
SPEAKER_01Not just that, for Cal League, part of the requirement to even have to enter in a tournament was you had to have a proven IRC channel 24 hours a day. And remember how IRC was. If you didn't have someone in there, it wasn't running. If you left it, someone could come and take it. So you'd have to have bots and fucking oh man. It was like DOS. The golden age of the internet. But it worked and IRC. IRC there was a learning curve. But once you figured it out, man, I mean you could do some pretty cool things with those servers.
SPEAKER_02Mm-hmm. And somehow Discord just came in and took them both out. Kablam! Well, MySpace, Facebook. Yeah. Discord Space.
SPEAKER_01I remember when I remember when young people wouldn't use Facebook because they said all the old people were on it. Bro, I heard something that kids are saying that they're calling like the late 1990s and shit. The end of the 1900s. They're not wrong, right? But isn't that fucked up? Makes you feel so much older, right? But yeah, little kids, man. Like, no, that was the 1900s. No, 1900s is 1900. Like, no, I guess technically, my brain like was like couldn't handle that. I was like, what? I'm like, yeah, I guess technically they're right. We're just from a different century, man. Oh, dude, but they're growing up like that. Looking at you is like you were born in the 1900s.
unknownFuck.
SPEAKER_01Kids, kids 30 years from now are gonna look at our clothes and be like, how could they wear that? It looks so uncomfortable. How could you not have spray clothes?
SPEAKER_02Man, that's trippy.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, no, anyway. I just thought from the 1900s, I guess that's us.
SPEAKER_02Man. The late 1900s. You know what else I heard? Because my fiance works at schools. I get to get up to date with all the lingo. You know what they call overweight people these days? Big backs.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah. No, I've um, it's because of influencers. The the oh yeah, dude. I only know this because I I hear them through Tracy watching, and a lot of the heavy set influencers like will refer to themselves like that, wherein they're gonna like pound down a big meal. Yeah, big back, mama big back. That's what one of them says a lot. So I'm not shocked that kids are hearing this, and it's not like a chicken or the egg.
SPEAKER_02Is it a chicken or the egg? Did it come from the kids and then the influencer started saying it, or did it come from the influencer?
SPEAKER_01Oh, that would be sad because that'd be like they started saying it. That'd almost be like they were picking on you and you just took it.
SPEAKER_02Well, you get a code with it, the lingo that you know, I'm like, all right. I get that one. That one's not bad. Big back's not bad. I laughed the first time I ever got called Unk. Unk was pretty funny. Some of some of their some of this next gen's lingo, you know, they're not drinking or anything like that, but they got some funny lingo. I'll give them that.
SPEAKER_01They might want to dabble in it though, just to come up with some creativity. Unk? Unk is funny. Bro, I mean it's funny, but I really originally heard it used only in Chinese videos.
SPEAKER_02The only time I ever so you're talking about Uncle Roger.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Only time I ever heard it being used in Chinese videos. He's he's the accent's not real. You leave Uncle Roger alone, bro. He's the best. And his little sidekick that joins him sometimes.
SPEAKER_02But that's Uncle Roger. He didn't call himself Uncle Roger.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but to me, Uncle, he's like the original Uncle, you know, in pop culture. Well, not pop culture, but whatever that you want to call that. Rice making videos. But honestly, because that was years ago. Huh? Those were great videos. Do they still hold up? How excited he would get if he would watch someone else, someone else making rice and using his rice cooker, you know, the same brand he would use. Oh man, he got excited. And yes, the accent was fucking stretched to the gills. But so when I started hearing Unk, I'm like, eh, it's already been played, man. I don't think they got it from Uncle Roger. No, but my brain went right to Uncle Roger the first time I ever heard it. So when that kid called you Unk in freaking forefront, I'm thinking Uncle Roger. And that's to me what makes it even funnier is like, you know, the hip hop scenes gravitated toward Unk. I'm like, it just cracks me up every time I hear it because I'm like, I'm thinking of Uncle Roger. So, no, no matter where we are, no matter what we're doing, someone's like, yo, what's up, Uncle?
SPEAKER_02That was my moment where I went, damn, I'm almost 30. I'm thinking call me Unk, and I can't even say like dude.
SPEAKER_01That kid talked to you like you were older than me. He was telling you, like, you need to be like with your kids and shit and all this. I'm just dying laughing. I'm like, yeah.
SPEAKER_02That shit was funny.
SPEAKER_01Oh shit.
SPEAKER_02So this next one, this was a sad one. This actually from the other week, but we missed it last week. A game that you and I loved dearly at launch. It was actually, fun fact, the first ever VR game that we had pre-release access to. I remember how excited we were getting this key and being like, oh my goodness, the game's not even out yet. And this game even brought in our Discord moderator, Amelia, as a listener, because we reviewed the game. We had pretty big ambitions for the game that the reality of content creation wasn't real to us yet, and we thought we were gonna have much more time to continue playing it than we did. We even brought in one of my friends to start playing it, and he was pretty upset with me that we fizzled out of it, my friend Shane. He did so much work. I know.
SPEAKER_01He got so many of those plates together for us, dude. He had everything going. He he was like giving us a tour of our own home. He's like, Look how much when I did all this.
SPEAKER_02Like, yeah, the game did have so much potential, but we're talking about from developer Alta. The game is a township tale. Township tale was such a good concept, one of the best executions of that type of co-op, you know, base building, town building, so to say, because the buildings are already in there. Private server, so much potential with it. It was available on PC VR and PSV, sorry, PC VR and MetaQuest. And the developer Ulta, a couple weeks ago, they killed their next upcoming game, what was supposed to be their next upcoming game called Reeve. They canceled it, unfortunately, while it was in beta test and getting a bunch of hype. And they have announced that they are closing down a township tale next month. This month, actually, on July 20th. On July 20th, the game will go dark. It's gonna be pulled from the MetaQuest store, and they're they're shutting down the servers. So you're not even gonna be able to just go in and you know play it solo or anything like that. Now there is in their Discord a group of modders that are trying to work together and bring it back with a private server so that if you own the game, you can still go in and and play on an unofficial server, which seems inevitable. The game still had a still had a decent community. Um I mean they're subreddit, like people are still playing it.
SPEAKER_01It's just I I'd said in our Discord if because it really was a great game, right? And I'm as guilty as anyone else for not going back in there or living in it. But all said and done, it was definitely because it functioned great, never really had issues with jank. Um, I could argue it was ahead of its time. Considerably too, by like, you know, two years. It was 2021. I still for the amount of depth they brought to it, I would challenge, you know, who's coming out of the gate with that much. I know. So it's sad, it's sad to see. I also understand there must be a cost, you know. I'm sure new players aren't running, and it's too bad they couldn't put it on Quest Plus. Work out to at least pay for the servers and nothing else. Sell some in-game cosmetics or something like that. It's already on Quest Plus. But yeah, dude, I mean there's for its time, it was great, but it was probably before its time, but now the market's so just jacked. I don't know. I'm sad for him though.
SPEAKER_02There's a lot of talent there, something went wrong with the studio, definitely, because they got some funding.
SPEAKER_01I mean, to kill Reeve. Yep, and I mean it's literally they're just shutting, they're just turning lights off at this point.
SPEAKER_02That's how it sounds. And they stopped working on a township tale, like they still had a bunch of stuff on the roadmap that they never never got to and said that they weren't gonna ever get to to focus their time on Reeve. And then Reeve ended up not even coming out pretty late into development. Something went wrong somewhere, you know.
SPEAKER_01It's too bad they couldn't have just somehow gotten funding just to continue working on Township and then all that time wasted of not. But I mean, it would have needed some severe visual enhancements for sure. Which I'm I mean, I think they could have done, man. It came out in the quest 2 era. Yeah. A quest 3 upgrade, totally doable. It's pretty incredible, but I am I am definitely sad for that studio. There'll always be a place in our heart because forever that was the first game that we ever received early access to. I couldn't believe they would do that for a couple of dudes who were so freaking new. And you know, I mean, what can you say?
SPEAKER_02It just sucks. Yeah, they raised 12 million in fundraising and funding in 2022.
SPEAKER_01But where'd it go? We won't ask that. No, I'm I'm sure you could look at payables and be like Yeah, they had go as far as you think.
SPEAKER_02At the the time of them getting fund the 12 million funding, they had quote unquote more than two dozen and growing in terms of employees.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So figure what they cap out at like 30, 40 employees, each one making you know 100 plus K a year. It's like it's a lot of money. I know hindsight's uh the the the the payroll tax shit and all that other stuff.
SPEAKER_02And who knows if they had a physical studio? Because they're in Sydney, Australia. If they had a physical studio in Sydney, that's probably expensive. But dude, the game had so much potential. Hindsight's 2020. You do wonder if they didn't put the time and money into Reeve if they just focused that into a township tale.
SPEAKER_01But if you know what it might still give you that same, and then we could have been saying, you know, I'm I wonder if they had just made Reeve. Correct. Hindsight is hindsight's 2020. I don't think it would have changed the end. It's just that's just where it has to be for them. And I can only just hope that a handful of them or whomever can recoup and they started small before, right? There were three developers, so or they can do it again if they choose to, or they don't have to, you know. I mean, at the same time, they did it for a lot of years. Perhaps they they rightfully saved some of their money as you know, as salary, just in case, and don't have to really do anything for a little while. And you know, it's been a tremendous imagine that stress they've been under for like the past five years. Just seeing those finances go down, uh, and just and and keeping it and staying active in the community and trying to you know get hype for the new project, which there was. So, you know, I feel yeah, I feel for them.
SPEAKER_02Yep. One of our first loves of VR, like you said, we'll always have a place in our hearts. That's our first ever game we got early access to, and I agree with what you said ahead of its time. The only criticism I'll throw their way is that the game's still available for sale until the 20th. They should pull that off the store like yesterday, you know?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, as long as they're yeah, so they shouldn't still be selling it. But I mean their attitude might be is like, look, guys, nobody's you know, nobody's gonna buy it. Quite confident. You know, like they just they have their own data, they're like, Yeah, I just we haven't sold a copy. We'll give that person exactly, we'll give that person their money back if they send us an email. It won't be the end of the world. There'll be one person. Too funny though, but it really could be you know something that simple.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, hopefully that's not the case. Hopefully they're selling more than one every six months. But also, if so, they should probably take it off the store now. But yeah, rest in peace to Township Tale. Uh always will have a moment in our hearts, a little spot in our heart. So sad news there with Alta. Reeve, I was so excited for was a dungeon style extraction game. Co-op, let's go.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, no, like I said, that one was there was a little bit of hype for that one.
SPEAKER_02Um as a studio, they came up with great ideas for games.
SPEAKER_01I don't think we've seen the last of the the some of the names there.
SPEAKER_02So they haven't officially announced layoffs or closing either. It's just Reeves dead, and now Township Tail's dead.
SPEAKER_01So they're gonna start making E Bs. Um E Bs? They're gonna start making AI electric vehicles.
SPEAKER_02Oh, okay, okay. Thought you said E Bs. E Bs.
SPEAKER_01Electric burgers, mate. Electric burgers. Their whole country's grass-fed, too. Fuck dude. How good is a hamburger in Australia?
SPEAKER_02I've met so many Australians in New York because Australia made it to the next round of the World Cup. Yeah, and all of them had the same story of well, we booked our vacation till last week, but then when Australia won, we just extended it again. I'm like, damn, how much how much time off do you have? You just decided to add an extra week to your vacation?
SPEAKER_01Uh it's the World Cup. Nobody's getting fired.
SPEAKER_02Um I forget to say I watched so many World Cup games while I was in New York.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, the one I I really want to see. It's tomorrow. Yeah. Fucking dude, this one's brutal. Someone, someone's getting hurt. Mexico and England. That's I don't even know where to lean on that. Mexico's on fire right now. They did great against, I think it was Ecuador they played.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I watched that one. All I know is someone, someone's getting real sad. Nah, dude, it's on. I mean, like, what do you do? These are knockout rounds now, right? Mm-hmm. And we're we're playing against uh uh uh Bavaria, I think. Bolivia. Belgium. Belgium? I can't remember who we're playing. I hate that I've I've I haven't taken we're doing great too. Yeah, we're we're facing Belgium. I don't feel us going. We'll just say, you know, happy fourth. I don't I don't know. Let's see. I hope I eat face crow, dude. I just hope I eat crow, but like soccer in America is you know, we haven't won the World Cup since like the fucking 30s.
SPEAKER_02I saw Belgium. Belgium made the craziest comeback against Sangal, Senegal, against Senegal. They were down two points with like 10 minutes left, and then scored two and then won a third in overtime. I was like, what? So all I'm gonna say is Senegal, they took him to the wire. We got this.
SPEAKER_01We got this. Oh, Morocco beat Canada today. Well, well, well. Canada's out. Oh, Monday's ours. Yeah, Monday at 6 p.m. Belgium, Portugal, Spain. That's a good one. I'm sorry, 8 p.m. I'm gonna go with Portugal on that one. And Brazil and Norway. Gotta go.
SPEAKER_02Norway was fun to see when live all the people, all the Norwegians in the bar were doing this their silly little celebration, which is just rowing about. I was rooting for the Scottish, bro. They come to your town, they're drinking it out. They drink it dry, yeah. That's crazy. The best thing that can happen to your local bar economy is Scots come there for the World Cup.
SPEAKER_01Holy crap. Yeah, I'll be. I mean, if we make it out tonight, I don't know what to say about our next next one Friday, dude. Either Portugal or Spain, both give me shivers. Both are tough. Tomorrow at 8, Mexico, England. That's that's to me the hottest one on the that's crazy. That's gonna be so much energy. It's in Mexico City, too. Oh, dude.
SPEAKER_02I love the way that they do it for the World Cup, too. That it's like screw the Olympic village.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, like, no, put that stuff all around the country. Yeah, man. And it's way better. And it brings it, it's not just like it's bringing in so many fucking people from around the world to your countries, not just America. What I'm loving is that the misconceptions that people might have been force fed, they're finding out first hand. Like, yeah, it ain't fucking true. So you can come here with your own misconceptions, as I can go somewhere with my own misconceptions, and I've always left other countries going, huh? That really wasn't what I thought.
SPEAKER_02You know, going all the international people that I was bumping into were all there for the World Cup, and they were all having a great time.
SPEAKER_01Dude, the stories are endless. It's it's so hot that it's it's borderline political canon fodder now, and that sucks because it's gonna take that turn. But for now, we'll enjoy it for what it is, you know, that's just human beings meeting other human beings and finding out we're all kind of similar and we're all having fun. And you know, there was when you were in New York City and they did win, the Times Square celebration was fucking massive. Mexico came out in force to part, and dude, there was I heard of no incidents in Times Square.
SPEAKER_02So that's yeah, I was actually gonna joke that I we actually saw more fights in Sweden than we did than I saw in New York. 100%. Which granted, we only saw one fight in Sweden. That was a girl beating the shit out of a dude. That kid got fucked up. I was about to I was about to go world star. Like that kid got oh man, he got hit. He got hit with a TKL. Like he got the ground impound, it was bad. That that shit fucked him up.
SPEAKER_01That car was parked all kitty corner at the bus stop because he was going nowhere except fist into her his face into her knuckles, dude. Yeah, that girl scrapped.
SPEAKER_02But New York seemed in a positive, positive spot between the World Cup. They they're coming off of the Knicks, like everyone was friendly, everyone was happy. People were asking, like, if if there was a couple people from another country in a bar, that whole bar was gonna root for that country, you know what I mean? Like it was it was cool.
SPEAKER_01It's it's had, like I said, a lot of misconceptions going on with you know, through I mean, no nobody's perfect, and certainly this country has its ups and downs, like anybody else's country. But it's just cool that people are coming here from other countries, celebrating their asses off, going to Buckeys and Waffle House and Popeyes and meeting freaking people from all over the country, and everyone seems to be having a really good freaking time. All it takes is the World Cup. But all right, let's bring another home run, and that's not baseball. Uh Quests Plus, Horizons or Meta's monthly subscription service that will give you more games than you would ever know what to do with. There's no way on Gaz Green Earth you'd probably even be able to demo them all, let alone play them all, because you're gonna find something within 10 that's gonna just suck the life from you forever. So this month, as they do every month, you get a handful of games that will be added to their ginormous freaking list of games uh that they they offer. This month, uh Gun Club VR, which is really a gun simulator in every I'm but like done really, really well. Load, unload, pretty much fire any freaking gun you want. Not a lot of time I have in it. It's an actually a pretty old game or simulation, but I do own it and it is fun. Um you also get this is a good one, Dragon Fist VR Kung Fu, a game that you and I like. I can play it multiplayer, single player. Really good, really good fighting mechanics, and overall a fun ass experience. And then lastly, a game that is really super old, Phantom Covert Ops. You're in a kayak, being stealthy, wink wink. You don't have to be. And they'd just go, hey, stop shooting. Stop shooting. You're dead, bro. Um, but it, you know, hey, for not free, but for the measly, measily small price of less than two extra large cups of coffee, it's still a win. But you know, look at the games this month, with the exception of Kung Fu. I don't know. Are we reaching the have we have we peeked over the top of the best games to add to this since we've thrown walkabout in there, expect you to die, and or ghost of the board in some case? And you know what I'm saying? I think for a game.
SPEAKER_02I mean, we're we're digging old. Dragonfist VR Kung Fu is a great one to be in there.
SPEAKER_03No, because that one I forget.
SPEAKER_02They have the DLCs. Yeah. I can totally see somebody playing in PR in there. I want the other characters. Yeah, there's a lot. When we first got it, you couldn't make your own character either. No.
SPEAKER_01No, dude, there was a no, there was when we first started playing it. There's no DLCs. No, it was so it was, but it was good. And it was still Clayton was always there.
SPEAKER_02Mr. Ben, he's still working on his weapons pack DLC as well, which I can't wait for. He's been working on that one since I think the first time we talked to him.
SPEAKER_01Best part of Ben is when we talked to him and we had suspicions about the characters because they're all reminiscent of something, and he's actually got lore for every single character. There's not a one that you couldn't be like, well, what's his story? And he will tell you what the story is. That's a lot to remember, but the passion, dude.
SPEAKER_02I love that the game's still kicking, still getting updates, new content. And I think Quest Plus for them specifically, I think is gonna be huge.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it'll keep it going. And I never got to fight myself in uh creative in the tournament. No, no, never.
SPEAKER_02I'm sad, but anyways, well, that's a cool one. I always love seeing the games come to Horizon Plus, and I always joke. No wonder people aren't buying games on the quest.
SPEAKER_01You don't have to have Horizon Plus, it's no lie. Just thankfully and hopefully there's something that makes it worth it for a studio to do it. $8 a month. You got what you need, you know. Plus applicable tax.
SPEAKER_02Cool stuff there. Uh, not not too much more news to go through, so we probably should have done this a little earlier in the show, but yeah, it's probably good to mix up positioning of this as well. Two, as always, huge thank you to all of our Patreon supporters on our on-air shout-outs here. We have a huge thank you to Carson, Espire Mike, Crispy, Tom, Chris, and Danae. Thank you all for your continued support week after week and month after month. And then you too can have your name shouted out on our on Air Shout Out tier. And in those show notes, you will also find a link to our highly coveted Discord server. Prestigious, if you ask me, even just unless you're a bot, we just kick some today. Kick some every day. The the bot waves. Man, I've been seeing so many of the Discord servers I'm in get hit with those tag everyone bots and selling Mr. Beast crypto scams and all that. So we have some good ways of booting the bots before before they hit that point. So as long as you're not a bot, go check out the Discord server as well for some great VR discussion, flat screen discussion, life discussion. You name it, we discuss it there. And uh I'll save my jokes uh at a bad one, but I'll I'll carry on. And don't forget, you can use code word rough talk vr at checkout for 10% off any game or app on the metaquest store. So cool stuff's there. And my next piece of news this is a game we talked about a few months ago when it first came out. It's out on MetaQuest PC VR with Steam VR and PSVR2, talking about Darts VR2, Bullseye. It launched. We had some issues joining uh multiplayer lobbies together on the quest at launch, but there were some things about it that we did like, like the kind of WWF attitude era ask walkout when you go to do the actual game mode itself. Made by developer Gamatronics. They have just added a new system bringing skill, bringing experience points to the game. It adds skill achievements, unlockable avatars, skinned darts, and other rewards as well, too. Like visual effects, titles, voice packs, and uh custom dartboard designs. And you gain XP both in solo and competitive multiplayer with 25 unlockable levels that each have their own rewards. So that's cool. Give you some incentive to play a lot single player and multiplayer and unlock all the visual content in the game. Cool stuff. No, game has potential, it's it's probably tough and modern.
SPEAKER_01My biggest issue was just the the issue we had with it that you discussed, and we were gonna let it kind of ferment and give it some time because I did enjoy the lockout aspect of it and gave it that like real like like you're filling an arena to play darts, which would probably never happen, right?
SPEAKER_02But yeah, we'll see.
SPEAKER_01I'm up for going back in for sure.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, we'll have to check it out again, see if if our issues fixed and check out the new XP update.
SPEAKER_01Heck yeah. Um wow, man, Sony is making this gonna be a twofer. We're gonna twofer it. I guess we'll start with this is a touchy one. Yeah, this one's gonna well, we're gonna double wham you. This is gonna be, you know, one right on the chin, and I'm gonna hook you right right under the uh right in the breadbasket. All that air is just gonna leave you and you're gonna go kabunk. So it's of no surprise. But starting in 2028, which is two more years, year and a half, that's it. There'll be no physical discs for PlayStation consoles beginning January of 2028. All new games, whether it's through their store or through retailers, will be digital format only. Which means at best you probably get like a GTA 6 scenario where they hand you a case and inside it's a little like fortune cookie size note that's got your code on it. So you can forget discs in the future with PlayStation now at the same time, and this is coming in the first of September, 2026. This only affects European folks. But five hundred and fifty plus movies that were distributed by Studio Canal getting deleted. They don't give a shit that you bought it for digital purposes, whatever, gone, deleted, no refunds, and they're gone for good. The reason content license agreements for the removal tell someone to negotiate. So it's scary because we're now on the pre-orders of GTA 6, which you know, yes, I'm out 100. Um, we don't own it. And it's obvious, so you just gotta pray to God that this is a very strange we I want to see how it plays out. I don't know, you know, it doesn't sound like there's any legal recourse that can be done about it. No, because it's software.
SPEAKER_02It's like a disc. You own you own a disc. Yeah, for all like legal purposes, you own a disk. Correct. Software, when it's just a download, you do not own it. It's you have the license to use it. Very weird that they're allowed to get away with that distinction, right?
SPEAKER_01So I pulled one comment from some news articles, and I'm gonna close it on this. I'm I'm gonna agree with it. If buying isn't owning, pirating isn't stealing. I've been seeing so many people say that. Uh dude, I'm not one for pirating, but dude, if you buy something and you know it's gonna it could go away, uh, you might want to pirate a another version of it. And I hate saying that, but that's kind of a true statement right now.
SPEAKER_02Well, if things are gonna be delisted and gone forever, like you can't get them any other means. That might be the only method for proper preservation of titles.
SPEAKER_01And there are a few articles that say it doesn't affect the United States yet. Well, the the student the movies one correct discs are going forever. That's a done deal. That's going forever. But I would think this country's legal recourse for that would be through the fucking roof. For what? For pulling the movies, yeah. There has to be. I'd have to You never owned it.
SPEAKER_02You don't own it. I you know what it's digital only, you don't own it.
SPEAKER_01Again, this is this is America, so we can make some claims, but I and I'm just saying that like so I've bought digital movies before, and I have had zero representation that made me feel like I don't own it.
SPEAKER_02There was nothing I'm being dude, I'm being fucking I know, I know, but just just technically with the content settled on.
SPEAKER_01So let's what happens when 12 million people all have the same bullshit story, and then they do a mass. It's like, what do you do then? It's like it's you're getting sued, bro. Yeah, but there's you know you can sue for anything, you'd sue because it's hot outside.
SPEAKER_02Oh no, no, no, 100%. But like your hairstyle from a legal standpoint. Hey, you know, there's nice.
SPEAKER_01I don't know that they I don't know. There's there's because I I never clicked a box that gave me any clear concept that I would never be owning this movie. I thought in my head, if I bought the disc or I bought it digitally, it doesn't fucking matter because I owned the movie. If there was a box or something that said, hey, just so you know, you don't own this. Yes, we're charging you $19 plus tax.
SPEAKER_02Amazon already does this too. You you might buy a movie on Amazon. You know how Amazon they have Amazon Prime video that you know you can use like Netflix, but then they also sell movies on there. Movies get pulled from it all the time. You get no compensation, just it's unavailable despite you buying it. That's bullshit, dude. I think we just need to update our laws. Like we need it well, yeah, because the laws weren't written when streaming was a thing. Correct. And it wasn't written when digital downloads was, you know. Our software licenses need to be a little updated, our software laws need to be a little updated. A digital download of a game should be the same protections as if you have a physical disc or a movie or music. Imagine buying music and you go to listen to it, and they're like, sorry, bro, you don't have the rights to that anymore.
SPEAKER_01They I think the onus is to just make it legally understandable that every time you download a song for money or buy a movie or game for money, you should have to click. You understand this is just a license agreement between you and Joe Blow, and it can go away tomorrow. Well, you do that for games. Oh, and in the 82 pages of small print you have to scroll down before.
SPEAKER_02You definitely do it on a game. I've just never seen that on a movie. You have a fair point there. Yeah, but I've never I've they they could argue that you are saying yes to it in a game.
SPEAKER_01You click the button on the home stuff. But they do in that, and let's be honest, and that bullshit too. As far as you know, every person doesn't own a home anymore because they've given their house to EA, right? Because uh nobody's ever read all that. No, I know. I don't even know how that stuff's legal. Uh and half the time it's blurry, you know, like fucking two minutes of scrolling just to click accept. And I know what they're doing, dude. They're they're idemnifying themselves from everything. There's probably shit in there about you know things we never even thought of.
SPEAKER_02There's been VR games that have gone away, like a Marvel VR game. There was Beyond Frames back in the day, did a John Wick game that you can't get anymore because they don't the IP for it expired. And think like Fun Train and and uh Exorcist VR and Twilight Zone VR, and now Paranormal Activity VR is going away because they couldn't renew the license, the IP. How can that affect people that have already bought it? Like that doesn't make sense to me. Like, I understand if you say you can't sell it new anymore, right? But yeah, you know, you think back in the gate, there was never a PS PS2 game or an original Xbox game that you would buy. You'd go to put the disc in and would say, sorry, we lost the IP for this. Yeah, you could all once it's out, it's it's out. You play it, you know. Maybe they won't make new discs of it, but I hope that this sparks a wider conversation because I don't think our consumer potentially are updated.
SPEAKER_01How do you future market these products when you just made it really known now? Like, yeah, it's no joke. Not our it could be Sony, Amazon, fucking Xbox, Fandango. It doesn't matter. You pay for it, you don't own it.
SPEAKER_02In the case of why the fuck am I gonna pay for it? Right in the move in the case of Sony with the movies, I would understand if they said, hey, you can't buy it anymore. But the fact that it'll be gone from your console, your library, is crazy.
SPEAKER_01It's really bullshitty. Yeah, it's dirty. Because again, it wasn't expressed or warranted to me as the consumer that that's the arrangement I was engaging in. Maybe I did when I signed up for this through some fucking thing. I don't know. No, that one's frustrating, though. That one's real frustrating. It's just it's sad.
SPEAKER_02It's and but now they're gonna say now there's rumors that Xbox, their gangster ass CEO, that they're in rebuttal to this, working on making it so that if you get a disc version of a game, they'll give you a digital version of it as well when you attach it to your account. But then if you take that disc and you put it into a different Xbox and a different Microsoft account, then it voids the license on the first account, which makes sense. Like that's a gangster ass rebuttal to do this all.
SPEAKER_01Which is good because well, somebody's gotta do something, dude. We gotta form government for a reason. This is one of those areas where, like, yeah, there's digital commissions and shit. Do something, yeah. Or consumer people. I think I'm gonna look at the people on the other side of the pond here, lose 500 fucking movies that people bought and TV shows, and it's just tough shit. Whoa, bro. Licensing, you know. I'm not no fuck you. I ain't settling. I love my PlayStation, but might be the last one I buy. Well, our PlayStations don't even have a disk drive in them. I don't want you bringing this up, but I'm on a roll, bro. No, you get what I'm saying, though. I just but but because I'm but I buy all my all my shit digital. That's just I've I've absorbed it. Yeah, I've years ago, you know, figured that's just the way it's gonna be. But I hate knowing that as a consumer, I I own nothing.
SPEAKER_02I understand if they say if they delist it from the store and you can't buy it anymore. That's one thing, but it shouldn't be allowed to disappear from your account for existing purchasers. That part doesn't make any sense to me. Somewhere in this all, Valve is sitting there laughing their asses off, being like, oh, quite the controversy here. Valve's never never sold one physical game.
SPEAKER_01Digital for 25 years and nobody's ever bitched.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, before anyone corrects me, yes, I know Valve used to sell disc games to other consoles. Yes, I know the orange box and stuff. I know I'm just being silly because of Steam.
SPEAKER_01Or um do it, do what Valve does. Just say everything's fucking early app check, subject to change, may or may not come out. May or may not come out, may or may not come out. Game may or may not be what you play today. It's like I I I see it at like it screams at you, right? Like, oh man, this is an early you know what you're getting, you know.
SPEAKER_02It just makes me laugh. Valve's never sold a single disc for Steam. It's the most loved platform in the world, like Valve can do no wrong.
SPEAKER_01Another platform just tastes a little better than the Sony deck, you know. I mean, it's true.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, people love Valve. I love Valve too. Steve's the shit.
SPEAKER_01They were ahead of the curve.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, they just never sold discs. You can't get mad at them for taking away discs when they never sold them, right? It was smart.
SPEAKER_01They're the reason why I've mostly embraced digital shit. I used to love having discs and stuff. You know what I don't love? Scratches on my discs. Correct. Never had a problem with Valve other than updates and shit.
SPEAKER_02But that's why I think Xbox's way that they're talking about doing it is like that's smart. Still sell the disc and allow you to get a digital version of it. You know, because I agree, there's nothing worse than you pay $60 for a game. And look at the time I was buying discs, I was a kid, I was young, but like something happens to the disc, it gets a little scratch somehow. Sometimes the consoles would scratch the discs themselves in the tray, you know, it gets moved around a little bit and it's it's over. So there's pros and cons to each. What I do miss is do you remember like Rockstar was so good at this? You'd buy the game, the disc version, and inside where the manual and stuff was, there'd be like the full-size poster of the map, all this cool artwork. I used to love that part of disc versions, all the cool stuff that came with the disc itself. Uh, record albums, too. Albums you'd get posters and shit that you couldn't get unless you bought the deluxe edition of whatever. Rockstar used to be really good at that stuff. So I I think I missed that more than the actual disc itself. But yes, pretty controversial one that you just read off there. This next one involves Legendary Tales, a game that's out on PSVR 2, Steam, Steam VR, and just launched recently on MetaQuest. They've also recently come out with new DLCs and stuff like that, but they have now added a sandbox mode if you want to test out test things out in it, and then also a friendly fire mode if you like to just accidentally kill your friends. So, yeah, the the sandbox mode allows you to test out custom custom character builds and test out equipment without needing to grind hours and hours of gameplay just to see how that build would work. You can go in and say, What if I built my character skills and perks like this and use this equipment? How would it feel? The sandbox modes gives you an environment uh to figure that out, and friendly fire is just you know, some people like to play like that. I usually like friendly fire off because accidents happen, but yeah, cool stuff from developer Urban Wolf. And then they're also working on a possible roguelite mode in the future as well, too.
SPEAKER_01So cool stuff. Wow, my screen had just locked up for like a good solid 30 seconds. Well, at least your video did not. Okay, I did not know that. Um boy, this is a this is a heavy one. Cave Crave from 3R Games. Go spelunker in caves and get scared shitless. Uh, this one they're bringing Thailand's Thame Long Long Cave. But this is the cave that people have heard about because in 2018 it was 12 boys and their coach, football team, trapped in the cage. Two cave divers died trying to recover them or free them. So they're not making a one off experience what they did, but they are making the cave and all its little intricacies, and you will get to explore and see what those conditions are really like down there.
unknownSo
SPEAKER_01There's that. This is uh available on Quest Steam VR PSVR 2. This is their second DLC following tragedies. Like they did the well, it's caves, dude. Anyway, cave. People die. And then uh they do have a non-VR version for Steam, which is planned. Yep.
SPEAKER_02I've seen this game go viral on on so many social media platforms, including Reddit. Like it's it's had some pretty big Reddit threads because it's dude, it's like it's intense. You see a video of it and you're like, oh hell no.
SPEAKER_01It's blunking. No, you'll be able to swim for the first time in this game, too. Wow, it's gonna because it's gonna have flooded corridors. So limited visibility, even limited oxygen to go with the visibility, but they want to create that tense environment. But they're doing what they do and they're not slowing down. So there's no shortage of caves around the world that without even having to invent them. Then you can see just how crazy people really are to go, I need to go in that. Because in VR, you know you shouldn't be in that. Let alone, dude, people really go in this. It's like, hell no, I can't turn around. I'm good. Thanks.
SPEAKER_02I see that shit, and I'm like, no, no way. Nope. And they do it good too, because I remember when they first announced this, I believe they bring in some expert divers with them as well, too, to help them print the whole thing.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's they're not they're not fucking around.
SPEAKER_02Like golf plus for caves. Such an obvious hit concept for VR2 that no one ever thought of until it's done, and you're like, oh yeah, huh? That makes a lot of sense. Makes sense. Yeah, it's not some shit I would do with real life, and now we can do it multiplayer as well, too. So that's we're checking out together. So, next one's a quickie and involves the always talented VR modding community. Somebody has brought old school game, the perfect dark VR, or they brought old school game, perfect dark, a port of a Nintendo 64 classic, now to Quest and PC VR via a mod. So if any of you grew up in the 1900s, as you the late 1900s, the late 1900s, you can now try out this classic, port it to VR. That's cool stuff.
SPEAKER_01It's nice to know we were playing video games in the late 1900s.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, dude, the the modding community is so intense. I saw Team Beef posting that they're bringing Marrowind to VR on MetaQuest. Marrowind is probably the biggest Elder Scrolls game. Also the hardest to learn. It's ruthless. They'll tell you head north, somewhere head north, and you'll find what you need to. But in reality, the thing you're looking for is East. Like it's a it's a really brutally hard game. Uh, so I'm excited to try that in VR. But for perfect arc fans, yes, you have a port of this Nintendo 64 Classic on PC VR and PSVR too. I'm sorry, on PC VR and on MetaQuest.
SPEAKER_01I want to know what Team Beef has that they can't legally let anyone play, but they can legally own and play. That's funny.
SPEAKER_02Um though. And uh that's the the last bit of news. We were gonna end on talking some meta quest sales, but it appears those sales ended at the time of this episode dropping yesterday. So as the fourth ends, the day after those sales end. But you can use code word rough talk vr at checkout and save 10% off any game or app on the meta quest store. So, how about that? There is that. Anything else you want to add before we wrap this baby up? No, no, it's hot as hell out. It is beyond hot. We stole the European heat wave from last week. It came over here. We got to like what 98 degrees yesterday.
SPEAKER_01I blame them for it.
SPEAKER_02It went to about air come our way. It went to about 98 degrees yesterday, plus humidity. I know people in Arizona and you know, Southern California, they'll hear 98 and they'll say that's a walk in the park, but you're dry heat, it's different.
SPEAKER_01Sorry, I had a guy I was talking to from Georgia. I go, Oh, you came up here and brought your heat. He goes, Dude, I'm from Georgia. He goes, It this is nothing. And I'm like, you know what? You're right.
SPEAKER_02Yep, it's Georgia heat. Georgia's swampy.
SPEAKER_01It's hot, it's humid.
SPEAKER_02You swim. I'll never forget when we drove to Florida when I was a teenager, stopping at that truck stop in in Georgia, and I woke up from a nap and we're in Georgia, we're parked, and we go running and grab, you know, bathroom break, whatever. I get out of the car, and I had never felt heat like that with no water nearby or nothing. And then I just see this big person walking with jeans and a hoodie on, and I was blue jeans disgusted, just tight blue jeans. I was like, I need to get the hell out of this state.
SPEAKER_01I remember we went to uh brought you to your first waffle house in in Deep, Georgia. It was like 3 a.m. No, like 5 a.m. You ordered shit, you didn't even know what it was. I was mumbling. That lady asked what was up, and you were like, Yeah, okay. And then like, I didn't know you like grits. You're like, I didn't know I ordered grits.
SPEAKER_02She asked you. If I remember correctly, we were both just mumbling at each other back and forth. It was like it was a mumble off.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but you got breakfast. Yeah. Right in Georgia. Yeah, that's cool.
SPEAKER_02Well, yeah, hope everyone enjoyed this episode. Good luck to everyone's remaining teams in the World Cup. Let's see if we make it past Monday. I got good faith. United States, baby, it's 250th. It's a storybook. We're supposed to win this one. So hope everyone had a great holiday. Hope everyone stays cool this week.
