The Worthy Physician
Creating Meaningful Connections Through Daily Life
Have you ever pondered the lasting marks you leave in both your personal and professional life? In this episode of The Worthy Physician, I recount a fascinating summer adventure to New Mexico with my family to see dinosaur footprints. This trip sparked a deep reflection on the footprints we leave through our daily interactions, whether with family, friends, colleagues, or ourselves. Through personal anecdotes and thoughtful introspection, I explore how our words and actions create lasting impressions and how important it is to be mindful of the habits we cultivate.
Additionally, I share a poignant family experience of being stranded due to brake failure, which turned into an unexpected bonding opportunity that highlighted the value of staying present and positive, even in challenging times. This episode encourages you to reflect on the type of footprint you want to leave behind and offers a practical workbook to assist you on this journey. Don't miss the upcoming episode featuring Dr. Megan Melo, who will share her journey of overcoming burnout and making life-changing positive shifts. Stay tuned and reignite your passion for humanity and medicine.

Though I am a physician, this is not medical advice. This is only a tool that physicians can use to get ideas on how to deal with burnout and/or know they are not alone. If you are in need of medical assistance talk to your physician.

21 Day Self Focus Journal
Ten years from now, what type of path would you have left? And we're talking about your future self. Looking back, what would your proverbial footprints look like? Welcome to another episode of the Worthy Physician. I'm your host, Dr. Sapna Shah-Haque, reigniting your humanity and passion for medicine. So over the summer with the kids home, I have actually decreased the frequency of episodes to about every two weeks, except for the past week due to holiday, the busyness of summer with vacations, kid activities, everything that goes together with being a working parent.
Dr. Shah-Haque:One thing that we did that I found fascinating this summer was to drive to eastern New Mexico to go see dinosaur footprints. It was fascinating, it was an amazing journey and it was like taking a step back into time. Really seeing the footprints of my kids' favorite historic icon for lack of better terms really got me thinking. What type of footprint am I leaving behind? What type of impression am I leaving behind? Am I leaving behind Not just at work, not just in my professional life, but also my personal life, for my kids, for my family, for my friends, for myself? How am I showing up daily? How am I speaking to other people? How am I speaking to myself? What in the hell does that have to do with medicine. Some might say nothing. Some we speak, how we act more often than not is a habit, good or bad. It's a response that leaves a print on those with whom we interact, on those with whom we interact, including ourselves. Am I using kind words with others and myself? Am I using a kind voice with others and myself? And sometimes it's difficult to know where we stand.
Dr. Shah-Haque:I find that the summer is a good time for self-reflection. A year ago, my family and I were stranded due to brake failure in New Mexico. Nobody got hurt, but it was a great time because we were unplugged, we had no control of the situation. Unplugged, we had no control over the situation and we just rolled with it. This 4th of July weekend we rolled into New Mexico, we rolled out of it, no problems. For me it left a positive impression because we were disconnected on purpose. But also it was a lot of good time of self-reflection, family time, and that left a good footprint, that left a good memory. If you're having difficulty finding out what your type of print is on the world around you or trying to figure out what type of print you want to leave, hit the link down in the show notes and connect to the workbook that is on theworthyphysician. com. The next episode will drop in two weeks, where Dr Megan Melo will walk us through her journey of burnout and her positive changes that she has made. Take care.
