six-year period, in year one of this six-year period, there was 0%."},{"startTime":231.197,"endTime":234.11,"body":"And in year six, there was almost 20%."},{"startTime":234.11,"endTime":238.391,"body":"And I asked her, said, do you think there were no boys trafficked in year one?"},{"startTime":238.391,"endTime":240.633,"body":"And she said, no, what does that matter?"},{"startTime":295.006,"endTime":299.566,"body":"If girls only made up 10%, would you think it's unimportant that girls are the grooming when I was two or three years"},{"startTime":345.53,"endTime":354.51,"body":"old."},{"startTime":354.51,"endTime":358.87,"body":"And he would tell me, well, know, this is what dads do to teach their"},{"startTime":358.87,"endTime":365.636,"body":"sons about their bodies and don't tell your mom because you'll just make her feel sad"},{"startTime":358.87,"endTime":365.636,"body":"because girls don't have the same parts as boys."},{"startTime":365.636,"endTime":371.86,"body":"And so it was in my mind as a very small child, it was instructional that he was helping"},{"startTime":365.636,"endTime":371.86,"body":"me."},{"startTime":371.901,"endTime":377.745,"body":"And it was that grooming of, know, this is normal, this is okay, this is what we do."},{"startTime":378.406,"endTime":379.708,"body":"And don't tell your mom."},{"startTime":379.708,"endTime":387.564,"body":"That's, of course what a perpetrator or a trafficker does is isolate the victim, get the"},{"startTime":379.708,"endTime":387.564,"body":"victim to stop trusting or, you know,"},{"startTime":387.564,"endTime":389.576,"body":"relating to a safe adult."},{"startTime":389.576,"endTime":393.409,"body":"And so his grooming started when I was still in diapers, literally."},{"startTime":393.409,"endTime":406.75,"body":"And the sexual abuse was gradual from molestation to oral sex to sodomy when I was five"},{"startTime":393.409,"endTime":406.75,"body":"years old to trafficking when I was five years old to nine years old."},{"startTime":409.826,"endTime":413.307,"body":"Reading, yeah, I used to voraciously."},{"startTime":413.307,"endTime":421.359,"body":"would read, you know, in grade school there was this, back in the day, there was how many"},{"startTime":413.307,"endTime":421.359,"body":"books can you read over the summer?"},{"startTime":421.359,"endTime":423.48,"body":"How many books can you read in one semester?"},{"startTime":423.48,"endTime":428.798,"body":"And I would blow that chart off because I would read simultaneously."},{"startTime":428.798,"endTime":436.086,"body":"I would read one chapter of one book, it up, read another chapter of another book, read"},{"startTime":428.798,"endTime":436.086,"body":"another chapter of another book, and I would read two or three books at a time."},{"startTime":436.086,"endTime":439.194,"body":"I just couldn't get enough reading because it was my escape."},{"startTime":439.404,"endTime":442.497,"body":"I had to some way of going somewhere."},{"startTime":442.497,"endTime":452.845,"body":"so reading, I could literally place myself in those stories and experience those stories"},{"startTime":442.497,"endTime":452.845,"body":"by reading, just endlessly reading books."},{"startTime":453.065,"endTime":455.588,"body":"That was one of my early forms of escape."},{"startTime":455.588,"endTime":463.214,"body":"I think the most important thing is to keep including boys and men in the conversation."},{"startTime":463.214,"endTime":468.478,"body":"I know it's not the most popular thing in the world to say,"},{"startTime":468.504,"endTime":477.04,"body":"But this idea that gender neutral language is appropriate, gender neutral language is not"},{"startTime":468.504,"endTime":477.04,"body":"inclusive, it's dismissive."},{"startTime":477.04,"endTime":481.103,"body":"So when you say women and children, you are not including boys and men."},{"startTime":481.303,"endTime":482.884,"body":"That's not inclusive."},{"startTime":482.884,"endTime":485.045,"body":"That's offensive and a girl or woman, just think to yourself, boy or man."},{"startTime":587.278,"endTime":588.749,"body":"Because that's all that I had."},{"startTime":588.749,"endTime":592.981,"body":"That was the only book for people recovering from sexual abuse."},{"startTime":593.722,"endTime":597.503,"body":"And it was demoralizing and emasculating and hurtful."},{"startTime":597.524,"endTime":599.104,"body":"But it was all we had."},{"startTime":599.925,"endTime":601.806,"body":"It needs to be see boys and men as victims on the street corner or on the"},{"startTime":634.488,"endTime":640.271,"body":"internet."},{"startTime":641.031,"endTime":645.814,"body":"NGOs, nonprofits, you know, there is the"},{"startTime":646.542,"endTime":659.702,"body":"A Law Review article by Professor Jones that regarded in 2011 that there was two out of"},{"startTime":646.542,"endTime":659.702,"body":"220 institutions receiving federal funding that were providing services exclusively to"},{"startTime":659.702,"endTime":660.842,"body":"boys and men."},{"startTime":660.842,"endTime":666.942,"body":"Less than 1 % of federal funding to fight trafficking was going to boys and men."},{"startTime":666.942,"endTime":671.494,"body":"If it was the reverse for women, would you not be outraged?"},{"startTime":671.63,"endTime":676.93,"body":"And why are you not outraged that boys and men are receiving less than 1 % of the federal"},{"startTime":671.63,"endTime":676.93,"body":"funding?"},{"startTime":676.93,"endTime":678.81,"body":"So that's three."},{"startTime":678.89,"endTime":689.25,"body":"Number four is that victims are not being able to identify as victims because they're not"},{"startTime":678.89,"endTime":689.25,"body":"included in the language that boys and men are trafficked."},{"startTime":689.25,"endTime":697.21,"body":"So victims don't even recognize they're victims because when they Google human"},{"startTime":689.25,"endTime":697.21,"body":"trafficking, it's all about girls and women."},{"startTime":697.218,"endTime":703.101,"body":"And so victims can't even understand or identify that they're victims or that they count"},{"startTime":697.218,"endTime":703.101,"body":"because nobody else sees them."},{"startTime":703.101,"endTime":706.223,"body":"But the absolute worst message is to the traffickers."},{"startTime":706.223,"endTime":712.066,"body":"Hey, traffickers, here's an entire group of our population that we're not going to trafficking a boy or"},{"startTime":712.066,"endTime":719.57,"body":"a man because we don't recognize them as victims."},{"startTime":719.57,"endTime":722.192,"body":"And the reality is that's been documented."},{"startTime":722.192,"endTime":726.614,"body":"The United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime, UNODC,"},{"startTime":727.038,"endTime":737.242,"body":"just published an article last year on boys being overlooked and they did a study and in a"},{"startTime":727.038,"endTime":737.242,"body":"15 year period the trafficking of boys and men quintupled."},{"startTime":737.662,"endTime":738.783,"body":"Quintupled."},{"startTime":738.783,"endTime":743.565,"body":"Traffickers are listening to the message that we're sending out that boys and men are not"},{"startTime":738.783,"endTime":743.565,"body":"victims."},{"startTime":743.665,"endTime":750.868,"body":"They're quintupling how many victims they're using because they know a population your work and they're just kind of coming out with, what about me?"},{"startTime":804.49,"endTime":805.83,"body":"Yeah, even in court where I've had a little boy look at me and he"},{"startTime":827.239,"endTime":833.912,"body":"is just so."},{"startTime":833.912,"endTime":837.764,"body":"full of just disgust and shame and he's just so embarrassed by it."},{"startTime":837.764,"endTime":842.807,"body":"And so they're most likely not going to say anything, you know, and be
