0:00 Hello and welcome to Mindful in 5, helping you discover your peaceful path. I'm your host Spiwe Jefferson, author of the Mindful in 5 book series. 


Today we venture into the 'Dawn season' of our professional evolution, a time illuminated by the clear beams of fresh opportunity and growth. 


If you didn’t catch it, check out last week’s episode 97 where we unpack the concepts of dark, dawn, and day and their psychological genesis.  Last week’s episode was called “Coping in the Dark” and it is included - I included it in the notes for this podcast. 


0:50 Dawn is a season of new beginnings—you are in the stretch zone. It might be brought on by a move to a new place, a new job, a promotion, a new project, or simply the joy of a new day. At work, tasks and challenges in this zone are just outside your current capabilities, demanding new skills, adaptability, and effort. You see great possibilities ahead and want to take full advantage of the best this time has to offer. A new role or promotion or opportunities. You are learning, growing, feeling alive, excited, willing to take risks & be challenged (rooster).


01:44 In the context of a career, Dawn can be achieved by taking on new responsibilities, undergoing training, or facing novel challenges. 


01:53 So, how can mindfulness be the torch that keeps us confident and certain in navigating these transformative moments? By positioning yourself in this zone, you can continuously evolve, gaining new competencies and advancing their career.


02:14 So there are a couple of things that you can do in this season. One is self-Assessment: Regularly evaluate your daily tasks and projects and make intentional choices to keep yourself in the season of Dawn.


02:34 Set Stretch Goals: If you find yourself too comfortable, identify areas where you can stretch your abilities. This might include taking on a new project, learning a new skill, or asking for additional responsibilities. These goals should be challenging but not overwhelming.


02:53 Something else you can do is seek feedback: Regular feedback from peers, supervisors, and mentors can help you gauge where you are in this season. 


03:07 And of course, continuous learning: Attending workshops, webinars, or courses that introduce you to new skills or concepts. This not only helps you stay in the Dawn season but also adds value to your role and to your organization.


03:24 Finally, maintain a Growth Mindset: Cultivate a mindset that embraces challenges and views failures as learning opportunities. Last season we talked about the difference between a growth and a fixed mindset, so if you missed that episode, I have included it here in the notes.  This growth mindset attitude aligns well with the principles of the Learning Zone, and that is the season of Day.


03:55 These five points capture the essence of understanding where you are. So, to recap, those five are: self assessment, setting stretch goals, seeking feedback, and maintaining a growth mindset. So try that this week and try and prolong your time in the Dawn season of your career. And if you’re not in the Dawn season of your career, know that it can be a choice. You can simply choose to be in that zone at the beginning of your day.
