0:15 In a world teeming with expectations, carving out one's unique path can sometimes feel like a delicate balancing act. Today our topic is Flex Don’t Break. Meet Singita, a character from the Mindful in 5 books, and a beacon of determination and resilience.

0:40 Singita works as a physician payment and practice management specialist. She intentionally emphasized the word physician when she told her parents what she did, and they immediately told all their friends back home in Chenai, India, that their daughter is a rich doctor (punchline sound effect). While Singita’s four sisters disapprove of the deception, they’ve kept her secret. 

But now Singita has been inspired to go to law school. Growing up in a family that held engineers and doctors in high esteem, the path of a lawyer is not just undervalued; but looked down upon.

The weight of family expectations can feel overpowering. For Singita, it’s like an ever-present shadow. But Singita had a clear vision, and she chose to flex amidst the pressure rather than break under it.

01:46 Her first big move? The LSAT. Preparing for this rigorous test wasn’t just about studying; it was a profound act of rebellion and self-trust. Singita devised a meticulous plan to balance her daily routine, integrating LSAT prep into her life. She would rise an hour earlier, squeeze in flashcards during lunch breaks, and devote weekends to practice tests. All this while maintaining her current job and familial responsibilities.

02:29 Aware of the skepticism within her family, Singita became mindful of her confidantes. She initially only told her favorite sibling, Sameena. By selectively sharing her aspirations, she shielded her dream from potential naysayers, ensuring it remained untainted by doubt or discouragement.

But every time Singita felt the shadow of doubt creeping in, she leaned into her mindfulness practices. That was her mental vision that kept her going.
