Dean Elliott teaches from Judges 6:25–8 that idolatry—worshiping God alongside Baal—was causing the people pain. God calls us to worship Him alone, not side by side with anything else, whether it be another god, a person, an object, or anything we give more time, energy, and effort to than Him. To fight this, we must worship God wholeheartedly and publicly declare war on whatever competes with our worship of Him.
