of God transformed Paul's life, and therefore, Paul is someone who understands what knowing God can do for someone, and therefore he prays for the church at Ephesus, the church at Ephesus, that they would truly know God. 00:03:49.280 --> 00:03:52.560 The foundation of our faith is not a creed. 00:03:54.319 --> 00:03:57.599 And uh, or is it it is not a denomination? 00:03:58.240 --> 00:04:12.319 The foundation of our faith is not a system, the foundation of our faith is Jesus Christ, and therefore knowing him becomes critical for our faith. 00:04:12.879 --> 00:04:20.560 Knowing him or knowing God becomes critical, uh very foundational for our faith. 00:04:20.720 --> 00:04:25.759 In first Corinthians 11 1, the Bible says, For no other foundation can any man lay. 00:04:26.000 --> 00:04:48.480 --> 00:04:53.279 The foundation is already there, and that foundation is Jesus Christ. 00:04:53.600 --> 00:05:05.360 So the rest of the life we live, we are building on a foundation that is already set, and so uh there are three dimensions of knowing God that I want to bring to us. 00:05:05.439 --> 00:05:13.279 Number one, know his person, number two, know his mind, and number three, all, know his his person. 00:05:24.959 --> 00:05:38.959 Paul encountered uh Jesus on the way to Damascus, and he had a very personal engagement on the way to Damascus, Acts chapter 9, verse 1 to 5. 00:05:39.120 --> 00:05:41.600 Acts chapter 9, verse 1 to 5. 00:05:41.839 --> 00:05:47.360 And I want to pray and hope that every one of us here has had a personal encounter with God. 00:05:47.519 --> 00:05:49.120 Because this is how it begins. 00:05:49.360 --> 00:05:57.040 Knowing God really starts by knowing his person, having a personal encounter with him. 00:05:57.759 --> 00:06:03.120 Meanwhile, Saul was still breathing out murderous threats against the Lord's disciples. 00:06:03.360 --> 00:06:18.000 He went um to the high priest and asked for letters to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he found any there who belonged to the way, whether men or women, he might take them as prisoners to Jerusalem. 00:06:18.160 --> 00:06:25.040 As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. 00:06:25.360 --> 00:06:31.439 He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? 00:06:31.600 --> 00:06:32.639 Who are you, Lord? 00:06:32.879 --> 00:06:36.879 Saul asked, I am Jesus whom you are persecuting. 00:06:37.040 --> 00:06:37.839 He replied. 00:06:43.920 --> 00:07:05.680 And of course, from there he goes uh onto the house of Judas on uh a street called Strait, and a disciple of Jesus Colonia later is spoken to by God, and he's led to lay a hand on Paul, who was blind for a whole three days, and his eyes come back, and he's assigned, given an assignment. 00:07:06.000 --> 00:07:18.319 But uh knowing God for Paul was very liberating, and especially number one, that personal engagement and that personal encounter. 00:07:18.879 --> 00:07:22.720 My journey of knowing God started when I was almost 17 years old. 00:07:22.800 --> 00:07:26.480 I was in form two, and somebody came preaching. 00:07:26.639 --> 00:07:31.839 I have talked about it in the podcast that uh you saw on the screen. 00:07:32.079 --> 00:07:48.160 Um, and uh somebody came preaching, and John 3.16 was the key scripture, and he simply said, For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 00:07:48.399 --> 00:07:55.120 And that verse, the love of God, the plan of God for my life came so clear. 00:07:55.439 --> 00:07:58.079 And uh on that day I connected. 00:07:58.240 --> 00:08:03.360 That was my encounter with God, a personal encounter with God. 00:08:03.680 --> 00:08:36.159 You can never truly know God unless you start with a proper foundation, and that is Jesus Christ, and that is why many people struggle in their discipleship uh because they haven't known Jesus, they don't have a relationship with Jesus, and they are trying to build a Christian life, not on a foundation, Jesus Christ, but on maybe a creed, maybe a denomination, maybe a baptism, maybe a confirmation, maybe another ritual. 00:08:36.480 --> 00:08:42.879 But they never, never encountered Jesus as their Lord and Savior. 00:08:43.120 --> 00:08:53.440 And for that reason, they struggle in their discipleship because the foundation is not Jesus, and the foundation is not firm, it is not strong. 00:08:53.840 --> 00:09:01.600 And so I gave my life to Jesus, and I've been walking this journey since then, the journey of knowing God better. 00:09:01.840 --> 00:09:10.799 And Paul is praying for the church at Ephesus that they would know God, they would know God by knowing his person. 00:09:11.200 --> 00:09:14.000 So in verse 17, this is what it says. 00:09:16.480 --> 00:09:18.399 I keep asking, this is a prayer. 00:09:18.480 --> 00:09:29.039 I keep asking that God, the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the spirit of wisdom and revelation so that you may know him better. 00:09:29.279 --> Hallelujah. 00:09:39.840 --> 00:09:47.039 Get to know God better, the person of Jesus Christ, the person of God. 00:09:47.279 --> 00:09:55.840 Psalm 23 is a celebration of a man who knows God, and he knows God from first person. 00:09:57.200 --> 00:10:02.480 It is what you call a personal statement of faith. 00:10:03.039 --> 00:10:08.799 It is a celebration of a relationship by a man and his God. 00:10:09.600 --> 00:10:13.440 And he speaks forth that relationship. 00:10:13.679 --> 00:10:18.799 He puts it in a very short, uh, you know, I think this is just a short write-up. 00:10:19.039 --> 00:10:25.919 Psalm 23 is only six verses, and he's able to put everything together, and he's saying, This is how I know God. 00:10:26.399 --> 00:10:28.399 And he says about seven things. 00:10:28.559 --> 00:10:37.600 There are seven things, I won't go into each one of them, but there are seven things, a very powerful statement in terms of knowing the personhood of God. 00:10:38.080 --> 00:10:40.240 I will read it, Psalm 23. 00:10:40.720 --> 00:10:46.080 And he says, The Lord is my shepherd, my shepherd, I lack nothing. 00:10:46.480 --> 00:11:00.320 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul, he guides me along the right paths for his name's sake. 00:11:00.559 --> 00:11:13.840 Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me, and then your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 00:11:14.320 --> 00:11:19.759 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. 00:11:20.080 --> 00:11:26.799 You anoint my head with oil, and my cup runneth over uh overflows. 00:11:27.039 --> 00:11:29.360 Why don't we read verse six together? 00:11:29.679 --> 00:11:41.840 Surely your goodness powerful yes. 00:11:48.480 --> 00:11:55.200 I don't know how many of us can write up a statement, a statement of faith, a personal statement of faith. 00:11:55.360 --> 00:11:58.559 And somebody saying, Jesus is my personal savior. 00:11:58.720 --> 00:12:02.320 And you are able to write just a short statement like that one. 00:12:02.720 --> 00:12:10.879 Did you count how many times he says, I, me, my did somebody, Damaris, did you count? 00:12:11.120 --> 00:12:21.679 Yes, as Bible study, because we're talking about a walk with God, we're talking about knowing God and the depth of knowing 00:12:53.279 Now do a Bible study, and you see how many times he says, I, me, my, and uh, what does he say about his God? 00:12:53.840 --> 00:13:00.000 People who know their God, of course, later I'll be sharing the verse, say they shall be strong, they shall do exploits. 00:13:00.320 --> 00:13:07.840 But the the kindergarten of really this liberating power is knowing God. 00:13:08.240 --> 00:13:09.679 It begins right there. 00:13:09.840 --> 00:13:22.799 It is the doorway, you know, it is the threshold, and somebody should be able to say their journey, how they know God, not how your grandmother knew God or how your mother knew God, but how you know God. 00:13:22.960 --> 00:13:25.200 And that is how Paul writes to Timothy. 00:13:25.279 --> 00:13:34.879 He said, The faith that was in your grandmother and was in your mother now is in new Timothy, Elois and Eunice, and now Timothy. 00:13:35.039 --> 00:13:36.799 And so those personalities are important. 00:13:36.879 --> 00:13:37.840 They had their faith. 00:13:38.000 --> 00:13:43.120 We had a generation that had a faith, even Europe had a generation that had a faith. 00:13:43.360 --> 00:13:47.440 But the question is, what is this generation saying? 00:13:47.840 --> 00:13:49.679 What are these people saying? 00:13:49.919 --> 00:13:52.720 What is it that you are saying? 00:13:53.039 --> 00:14:04.559 Do you have a God whom you can say you truly know and you are able to, you know, uh write like David, a Psalm, like Psalm 23. 00:14:04.799 --> 00:14:10.000 And so let me say that the highest calling of man is to know God. 00:14:10.159 --> 00:14:11.919 That is the highest calling. 00:14:12.159 --> 00:14:17.840 And therefore, the driving ambition of every person ought to be then to know God. 00:14:18.559 --> 00:14:23.200 And uh knowing God, when you know God, you get to know yourself. 00:14:23.519 --> 00:14:27.200 And why people don't know peace is because they haven't known God. 00:14:27.440 --> 00:14:34.799 In Psalm 46, verse 10, it says, Be still and know that I am God. 00:14:34.960 --> 00:14:37.919 Psalm chapter 46 and verse 10. 00:14:38.320 --> 00:14:45.919 And uh, whoever doesn't know God is not wise, because the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. 00:14:46.000 --> 00:14:50.639 And really, if you need one to be wise, then the beginning is right there. 00:14:51.120 --> 00:14:53.120 Get to know his person. 00:14:53.360 --> 00:14:54.480 It's an encounter. 00:14:54.720 --> 00:15:00.399 Jesus told Nicodemus, unless a man is born again, John 3 3, uh he cannot see the kingdom of God. 00:15:00.559 --> 00:15:02.559 John chapter 3 and verse 3. 00:15:02.720 --> 00:15:06.720 And therefore, uh, we must start with knowing his person. 00:15:06.799 --> 00:15:09.039 How do you know God by knowing his person? 00:15:09.120 --> 00:15:11.440 But secondly, and that's a relationship. 00:15:11.679 --> 00:15:13.919 Secondly, know his mind. 00:15:14.480 --> 00:15:23.519 Know his mind, and this is revelation: getting to know the mind of God, kingdom mindset. 00:15:24.240 --> 00:15:29.200 In verse 18 of Ephesians chapter 1, this is what it says. 00:15:29.440 --> 00:15:41.759 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance uh in his holy people. 00:15:42.080 --> 00:15:51.360 So he's praying that there would be enlightened believers, and uh their their eyes, the eyes of their hearts would be open, that they may know the mind of God. 00:15:51.600 --> 00:16:00.159 I'm telling you, when you go into the mind of God, you see the great things God has in mind concerning you. 00:16:00.320 --> 00:16:12.960 In fact, in that verse, he says this that you may know the hope in the mind of God is the hope to which he has called us in his mind. 00:16:13.200 --> 00:16:20.000 And secondly, in the mind of God is the riches of his glorious inheritance for his all know it. 00:16:32.240 --> 00:16:37.039 It says, God says, I alone know the plans I have for you. 00:16:37.120 --> 00:16:44.240 There are plans for good and not for evil, to plans to prosper you, not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 00:16:44.480 --> 00:16:47.360 In God's mind is a plan. 00:16:48.639 --> 00:16:51.919 In God's mind is your victory. 00:16:52.240 --> 00:16:55.360 In fact, in God's mind is a breakthrough tomorrow. 00:16:55.440 --> 00:16:56.559 Hallelujah. 00:16:56.960 --> 00:16:59.519 In God's mind is a great year. 00:16:59.840 --> 00:17:04.319 In the devil's mind, you know, it's just destruction. 00:17:04.559 --> 00:17:06.720 He comes to steal, kill, and destroy. 00:17:07.039 --> 00:17:10.240 But in God's mind are good things. 00:17:10.960 --> 00:17:15.440 And uh knowing God requires knowing his mind. 00:17:15.599 --> 00:17:17.200 What is in his mind? 00:17:18.079 --> 00:17:26.160 When you read the scriptures, Romans 12, verse 2 says, Do not be conformed to this world, but be renewed. 00:17:26.400 --> 00:17:29.599 You know, uh be transformed by the renewal of your mind. 00:17:29.759 --> 00:17:31.279 Let me just read it from scripture. 00:17:31.440 --> 00:17:38.000 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. 00:17:38.240 --> 00:17:45.440 Then you'll be able to test and approve what God's will is, his good, pleasing, and perfect will. 00:17:45.759 --> 00:17:52.240 A lot of people are not walking with the mind of the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. 00:17:52.559 --> 00:17:55.680 They don't have the kingdom mindset. 00:17:56.720 --> 00:17:59.440 Now, our minds need renewal. 00:17:59.920 --> 00:18:09.680 And knowing the mind of God, what does God have in mind concerning tomorrow, my future, my children, my work, you know, my destiny? 00:18:09.839 --> 00:18:12.559 What does God have in mind regarding me? 00:18:13.200 --> 00:18:17.119 The scriptures need to fill our minds. 00:18:17.680 --> 00:18:21.279 What God has written is his mind. 00:18:21.839 --> 00:18:23.680 It is also his will. 00:18:24.400 --> 00:18:27.920 And knowing his mind requires that we get to know his word. 00:18:28.400 --> 00:18:33.440 I memorize scripture because I want to know what is in God's mind. 00:18:34.079 --> 00:18:40.240 In John chapter 6, I believe verse 6, give me John chapter 6, verse 6. 00:18:42.960 --> 00:18:51.039 He asked this only to test him, for he already had in mind, you know, he had in mind, this is God. 00:18:51.519 --> 00:18:55.200 He had in mind what he was going to do. 00:18:55.519 --> 00:19:01.839 God is never caught by surprise, he already has in mind what he's going to do. 00:19:02.160 --> 00:19:06.880 And that is why we should be praying, access into the mind of God. 00:19:07.279 --> 00:19:16.079 1 Corinthians chapter 2, verse 9, uh up to verse 12 shows us how the Holy Spirit helps us access the mind of God. 00:19:16.319 --> 00:19:17.359 This is what is written. 00:19:17.519 --> 00:19:30.000 However, as it is written, what no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, what no human mind has conceived, the things God has teaching you the mind of God and bringing it home. 00:22:06.240 --> 00:22:10.720 And so Paul praying that they may know his mind. 00:22:10.960 --> 00:22:16.640 And the way to know the mind of God is 00:23:05.839 He had the mind of God. 00:23:06.240 --> 00:23:12.000 And he looked at Goliath, he saw that was an ant, and from there he made a declaration. 00:23:12.160 --> 00:23:14.480 I will bring you down, I'll cut your head. 00:23:14.640 --> 00:23:18.160 Of course, he carried it around, and God is giving you to me. 00:23:18.880 --> 00:23:20.480 He got a divine perspective. 00:23:20.720 --> 00:23:24.960 You go back to your business, you start looking at it with the mind of God. 00:23:25.200 --> 00:23:32.960 God is saying your business is a success, but your physical eyes are saying your business is a failure. 00:23:33.200 --> 00:23:42.799 So today I pray that somebody receives the mind of God regarding your children, regarding your family, regarding your destiny, regarding your Isaiah 55, verse 8 says, Um, God's ways are not like our ways, neither are his thoughts, no, for my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. 00:24:05.279 --> 00:31:33.680 But I want to say the power that God gives you can break the yoke of death, breaks the yoke of principalities, and breaks the yoke of prince uh of power and rulers in the heavenly realms, powers we get to know when you are confronted by death and by all these other things, those things are powerless. 00:31:47.279 --> 00:31:55.119 But there is a power that's above every other power, and this is the power that Paul is telling the church at Ephesus to know. 00:31:55.279 --> 00:32:10.079 And in your own family, I pray, may God help you, know this power that comes through Jesus Christ
