Faith that moves mountains or familiarity that builds walls? This profound question emerges as Pastor Felista unpacks the surprising story of Jesus in his hometown—where the Son of God himself was limited by people's unbelief.

Drawing from Mark 6:1-6, we explore a paradox that challenges every believer: the townspeople of Nazareth were amazed by Jesus' wisdom and teaching, yet their familiarity with his background created a barrier of skepticism. "Isn't this Mary's son? Aren't his brothers and sisters here with us?" Their questions revealed a critical spiritual truth—knowing someone's history can sometimes blind us to God's supernatural work through them. While they acknowledged Jesus' wisdom and miraculous powers, they couldn't reconcile these gifts with his ordinary family background. The result? Jesus "could not do many miracles there" because of their lack of faith.

This message strikes at the heart of our theme for June: "Impartation of Uncommon Reception, Spirit-led Believing." Pastor Felista challenges us to examine how we receive God's Word—whether from the pulpit, personal Bible study, or small groups. Will we respond like the people of Nazareth who took offense, or like Mary who said, "Let it be done unto me according to your purpose and plan"? The difference determines whether we position ourselves to receive God's miraculous intervention in our lives. When God's Word meets with faith in our hearts, no mountain is too high, no valley too deep for His transforming power.

What areas in your life need an uncommon impartation from God today? Allow the Holy Spirit to plant that small seed of faith, and watch as the impossible becomes possible through spirit-led believing.

Speaker 1:

Hi everybody, greetings from Parklands Baptist Church. My name is Pastor Felista, I'm the family pastor and today I just want to remind us concerning our theme vision. We are moving on, pushing on really strong with the year of the Lord's Uncommon, spirit-led Impartition. This week we continue with our series Uncommon, spirit-led Impartition. This week we continue with our series. The theme for the month of June is Impartition of Uncommon Reception, spirit-led Believing, and the text that we are looking at for this week is Mark 6, 1 to 6.

Speaker 1:

The Bible tells us a story about Jesus in his hometown, jesus was accompanied by his disciples to his hometown and on the Sabbath he goes to the synagogue. It's really interesting when you look at this scripture because, as the people are listening to Jesus, the Bible says that they were very amazed, they were very surprised and probably even shocked at the revelation that was coming out of his mouth, at the truths that were coming out of his mouth and at the knowledge that was coming out of his mouth. But as the people are connecting with these teachings, suddenly they begin to be caught up in his identity, in who he is, and they begin to ask where did this man get all these things from? They begin to question this wisdom that he's speaking today. Who gave him this wisdom? And they begin to question the miracles. And they begin to say look at the remarkable miracles he's performing. What type of miracles are these? And then they begin to look at his genealogy and they say isn't this Mary's son? Isn't this the brother of James, joseph, judas and Simon? And are his sisters not here? They begin to look at his family and maybe they realized that Jesus' family was just a regular family in the neighborhood. And as they begin to look at this thing and interrogate the man that is speaking to them, that day the Bible says they took offense. Instead of receiving the word and mixing it with faith, mixing it with belief, instead of reflecting an uncommon reception and allowing the Holy Spirit to move in their hearts and challenge them challenge them in the area of how their lives have been in the past and what they need to do today so that they can receive from the Lord, this particular audience took offense and the Bible says that the Lord Jesus answers and says to them that a prophet is not without honor except in his own town, among his relatives and in his own home. And the Bible says that Jesus could not do many miracles in this place except lay hands on a few people, maybe lay hands on a few cases probably, that had caught his eye, that had caught his attention. Maybe there were a few sick people, a few lame people, maybe a few blind people around him. These are the only ones that Jesus could heal and Jesus went away that day. Very sad, very sad, very shocked, very surprised at their lack of faith.

Speaker 1:

This month, as we look at impartation of uncommon reception, we must make a decision. Each one of us needs to make a decision. How are we going to respond to the word of God that is being delivered from our pulpit, the word of God that is being delivered to us during our personal Bible study? The word of God that is being delivered to us, released to us, during the different Bible studies groups and books that are going on in Parklands Baptist Church? My challenge to all of us is that we will respond in faith.

Speaker 1:

My challenge to all of us is that we will allow the Holy Spirit to work in our hearts, will allow the Holy Spirit to work in our hearts.

Speaker 1:

We will allow the Holy Spirit to deposit in us that small seed of faith, because the Bible says if we can just believe, if we can just believe, if the Word of God that is being released meets with faith when it lands into our hearts, with faith when it lands into our hearts, if it meets with faith, spirit-led believing, then it does not matter what is challenging us, it does not matter what area of our lives requires a miracle, it does not matter the mountains that are before you, it does not matter the valleys that you are in.

Speaker 1:

You will be able to receive from the Lord, and my prayer for all of us is that, as we receive the word of God in this season, we will have the heart and attitude of Mary, the mother of Jesus, who says let it be done unto me according to your purpose and plan. Let it be done unto me according to the words that I have received today and this week. As you receive the word of God with spirit-led believing, may it be done unto you according to his purpose and plans, according to God's purpose and plan for your life. You are blessed. God bless you, shalom.
