Rescue For The Brokenhearted
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Start with promise, not spin: the Lord is near to the brokenhearted and hears our cry for help. That truth anchors a candid journey from grief over real-world violence to the blazing center of Christian hope in Matthew 28—an empty tomb, unborrowed authority, and a commission that makes faith public. We don’t stop at comfort; we press into responsibility. If Jesus holds all authority, then our words, our work, and our citizenship have to change shape.
We invite you to slow down with Psalms and Proverbs, where wisdom looks practical: keep your tongue from evil, turn from what corrodes your soul, and do the unglamorous labor of keeping the peace. Along the way, we remember Major General Andre Walker Brewster, a Medal of Honor recipient whose courage under fire offers a better model for honor than the loudest celebrity of the week. That contrast—steady service versus empty spectacle—reveals what a nation truly loves. If we reward shock and forget sacrifice, we reshape ourselves into a people easy to manipulate and quick to forget what matters.
We also pull a thread from America’s founding mindshare: when a society discards the moral grammar of Scripture, it loses the very tools that restrain tyranny and guard liberty. The failures we regret never came from obeying Christ too closely; they came from ignoring Him. Renewal will not arrive by hashtag or headline. It will come through everyday obedience: praying with stubborn hope, teaching what is true, honoring those who serve, and sharing the gospel with a neighbor who needs it. If your heart feels crushed, take courage—rescue is not wishful thinking. It begins with a risen King who keeps His word and a people willing to live like it.
If this resonates, follow the show, share it with a friend who needs hope, and leave a quick review to help others find it. Your voice helps us keep truth and courage in the spotlight.

Our military, our law enforcement, our firefighters, our EMS workers.
SPEAKER_00:Keep them safe. Give them strength, speed, wisdom, courage, a strong faith. Help them to feel your presence. Help us all to build strengthen our relationship with your Son Jesus Christ. Fill us with your Holy Spirit.
SPEAKER_01:Be with our leaders in the past, in the pulpit and in the state, our pastors, our priests, president, vice president, admirals, generals, senators, representatives, all the way down, Father. Guide us. Help us to love you with our whole heart, mind, soul, and strength, and to love our neighbors as ourselves. And God, my words here, Father, please. Your Son's name we pray. Amen. Marriage verse for today, Proverbs 5, 18 through 19. May your fountain be blessed, and may you rejoice in the wife of your youth, a loving doe, a graceful deer. May her breasts satisfy you always. May you ever be intoxicated with her love. Scripture for today is going to start with Matthew twenty eight, verses one through twenty. Early on Sunday morning, as the new day was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went out to visit the tomb. Suddenly there was a great earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven, rolled aside the stone, and sat on it. His face shone like lightning, and his clothing was as white as snow. The guards shook with fear when they saw him, and they fell into a dead faint. Then the angel spoke to the woman, to the women, Don't be afraid, he said. I know who you are looking for, Jesus who was crucified. He isn't here. He is risen from the dead just as he said would happen. Come, see where his body was lying. And now go quickly and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead, and he is going ahead of you to Galilee. You will see him there. Remember what I have told you. The women ran quickly from the tomb. They were very frightened, but also filled with great joy, and they rushed to give the disciples the angel's message. As they went, Jesus met them and greeted them, and they ran to him, grasped his feet, and worshiped him. Then Jesus said to them, Don't be afraid, go tell my brothers to leave for Galilee, and they will see me there. As the women were on their way, some of the guards went into the city and told the leading priests what had happened. A meeting with the elders was called, and they decided to give the soldiers a large bribe. They told the soldiers, You must say Jesus' disciples came during the night while we were sleeping, and they stole his body. If the governor hears about it, we'll stand up for you, so you won't get in trouble. So the guards accepted the bribe and said what they were told to say. Their story spread widely among the Jews, and they still tell it today. Then the eleven disciples left for Galilee, going to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him they worshiped him, but some of them doubted. Jesus came and told his disciples, I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth, therefore go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you, and be sure of this I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Does anyone want to live a life that is long and prosperous? Then keep your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from telling lies. Turn away from evil and do good. Search for peace and work to maintain it. The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right, his ears are open to their cries for help. But the Lord turns his face against those who do evil. He will erase their memory from the earth. The Lord hears his people when they call to him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted. He rescues those whose spirits are crushed. The righteous person faces many troubles, but the Lord comes to the rescue each time. The Lord protects the bones of the righteous, not one of them is broken. Calamity will surely destroy the wicked, and those who hate the righteous will be punished. But the Lord will redeem those who serve him. No one who takes refuge in him will be condemned. Proverbs nine verses nine through ten. Instruct the wise and they will be even wiser. Teach the righteous and they will learn even more. Fear of the Lord is the foundation of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment. Take comfort in that, folks. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted. He rescues those whose spirits are crushed. That verse has come to mind often over the years for me. And verse 22, no one who takes refuge in him, right, and the Lord will be condemned. The only hope we really have as individuals and as a nation is Jesus Christ and turning back to Him. Again, if you really want to do something, the best thing that any of us can do to help save America is to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ in whatever way we can. The Bible giving out Scripture, talking about Scripture to others, praying, just living our lives following the commands of Christ the best that we can. Countryside, if you uh again, if you are looking for a family, these are the first two books in the series. If you're looking for a family-friendly middle grade read, kind of along the lines of Narnia the Hobbit, Percy Jackson, if you check out the Countryside series, and if you enjoy it, if you would uh leave a review online, those help a great deal. And if you feel like you're getting something out of the podcast, at least a little bit, marriage versus uh scripture, medal of honor citations, history and heritage, etc. If you have five or ten dollars a month you can donate, there's a link on the in the show notes where you can set that up. And if you can leave a review, that would also help a great deal. So I would I would appreciate all of those, any of those. February 6, 2003, near Nablus, Nablus, however you say that in the West Bank, two Israeli soldiers, Second Lieutenant Amir Ben Ary and uh Staff Sergeant Aiden Susan, were killed in a shooting attack while on patrol. Responsibility was claimed by the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, the PFLP, along with Fata Tanzim, if I'm even remotely saying that right. Interesting thing about both of these is they're Muslim groups that go hand in hand with Marxist, Lenin, communist, socialist, leftist ideology, right? Those two go hand in hand.
SPEAKER_00:This is just one more example of that terrorism, violence, chaos, February sixth, 2003.
SPEAKER_01:Medal of Honor winner for today, Andre Walker Brewster, Captain, highest rank major general, conflict era China Relief Expedition, the Boxer Rebellion, Ninth U. S. Infantry, U.S. Army july thirteenth, nineteen hundred, Tiens, China. While under fire rescued two of his men from drowning. Accredited to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, not awarded posthumously, presented september fifteenth, nineteen oh three, born december ninth, eighteen sixty two, Hobunken, Hudson County, New Jersey, died March twenty seventh, nineteen forty two, buried Arlington National Cemetery, MH two Tac eleven thirty, Arlington, Virginia. Eighty years old, born at the very beginning of the Civil War and died in the early years of World War II. That's a heck of a span right there, folks. Andre Walker Brewster. I don't know if if many of y'all watched the Super Bowl halftime show, whenever it was. I don't remember how, I guess last weekend. But this is a perfect example of a gentleman that we ought to remember far more than the vast majority of our professional athletes, actors and actresses, pop singers. And the interesting thing is most of those people that fall into those categories that are really decent, good people that love God in America, they would tell you the same thing. They would tell you, you need to remember these men that risk so much for their country far more than you do me or my stats for baseball or my song lyrics or whatever else, right? And the ones that are bad, you don't want to listen to them anyway. The other ones hate and despise our nation so much, right? Um that you don't want to listen to them anyway. But if you saw that, I I didn't see it, didn't watch it, but I saw some clips and heard some commentary on it.
SPEAKER_00:The fact that it was in a foreign language, uh the fact that the material was grotesque in a venue that was knowably gonna be watched by children.
SPEAKER_01:It just tells you a lot about the people that support those ideologies. Gonna go back to the history of the United States, advice to the young. Gonna start with uh paragraph 51. For a knowledge of the human heart and the characters of men. Actually, you know what? I think we read 51 and 52, didn't we? Yeah. Let me see. 53. That's where we're gonna start. 53. But we were we assured that there is to be no future life, and that men are to perish at death like the beasts of the field. The moral principles and precepts contained in the scriptures ought to form the basis of all our civil constitutions and laws. These principles and precepts have truth, immutable truth, for their foundation. And they are adapted to the wants of men in every condition of life. They are the best principles and precepts because they are exactly adapted to secure the practice of universal justice and kindness among men. And of course, to prevent crimes, war, and disorders in society. I'm reminded here, it's either FDR or Truman, I think, that made the comment along the lines of all of the ills that we have in society could be solved if we simply followed Christ's teachings in his Sermon on the Mount. Right. Crimes, war, disorders of society. No human laws dictated by different principles from those in the gospel can ever secure these objects. All the miseries and evils which men suffer from vice, crime, ambition, injustice, oppression, slavery, and war proceed from their despising or neglecting the precepts contained in the Bible. The reason we have the problems that we have today, folks, in America, in Western civilization as a whole, are because we have turned away from the principles that God laid out in the Bible, the principles of Christ. Absolutely zero doubt, 100% that's why. You go back to Horace Greeley's comment from the 1800s, it's impossible to mentally or socially enslave a Bible-reading people. And we haven't been reading the Bible. It makes us easy to manipulate, easy to enslave. Paragraph 54. As the means of temporal happiness, then the Christian religion ought to be received and maintained with firm and cordial support. It is the real source of all genuine Republican principles. It teaches the equality of men as to rights and duties, and while it forbids all oppression, it commands due subordination to law and rulers. It requires the young to yield obedience to their parents, and enjoins upon men the duty of selecting their rulers from their fellow citizens of mature age, sound wisdom and real religion. Men who fear God and hate covetousness. The ecclesiastical establishments of Europe, which serve to support tyrannical governments, are not the Christian religion, but abuses and corruptions of it. The religion of Christ and his apostles in its primitive simplicity and parity, unencumbered with the trappings of power and the pomp of ceremonies, is the surest basis of a Republican government. You see two things here. One, if you go back and you look at history, the abuses you see from the church in Europe, Britain, that so many of our founders, the pilgrims, so many fled from Roman Catholic Church, Anglican Church, Orthodox. Those churches in those times were not following the principles of Christ. They were using those principles as an excuse, right? You see this here to support tyrannical governments for abuses and corruptions. And that's the other point here. That's the same thing when we see problems in America. When we look back on our history and see slavery, for example, those are the moments when we weren't following our founding principles based on the teachings of Christ. The issue is never in those moments when America has failed that we're following the principles, and those principles of Jesus Christ are somehow immoral or wrong. The issue is always that we're not following those principles, that we've gone astray, gone off the path, right? Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not to temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom of the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen. God bless you all. God bless your families. God bless your marriages if you're married. God bless your nation wherever you are around the world listening. God bless America. We'll talk to you all again real soon, folks. Looking forward to it.
