The American Soul
Morning Light In Dark Times
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Darkness isn’t theoretical anymore, it’s in the headlines, the anxiety we carry, and the way evil can look “successful” for a while. We start with Luke 1 and the promise of God’s tender mercy, where the morning light from heaven breaks in to guide people out of the shadow of death and onto the path of peace. That single image becomes our north star as we pray, name our fears, and ask God to help us trust His timing.
From there we get practical and painfully honest with Proverbs on home life and character. We talk about contentious conflict in marriage and why Scripture treats constant strife as a serious warning sign, not a joke. We also lean into the everyday ethics that shape families and communities: when to keep quiet, how gossip destroys trust, and what it looks like to live with integrity when nobody is clapping for it.
The second half widens into justice and public life through Psalm 58, a blunt look at rulers who plot violence and spread injustice, and a reminder that God judges justly. We contrast fleeting earthly “wins” with eternal rewards, then touch on civic memory through a Medal of Honor story and historic quotes that describe the Bible as an anchor for liberty and a binding force for society. We close with the Lord’s Prayer and a blessing over your family, your marriage, and your nation.

SPEAKER_00Bring 'em home safe to their families. Our our pastors and priests as well, please. And be with their wives and their children. Amen. Marriage verse. Proverbs 21-9 and 25-24. Better to live on the edge of a roof than with a contentious woman in a large house. Better to live on the edge of a roof than to share a house with a contentious woman. I need to correct something. Teacher, I I talked about this recently that used to tell his students, you know, if it's if I tell you once, might want to know it. If I tell you twice, it's a really good idea that you know it. And if I tell you three times something in class, not even the devil himself could keep it off a test, right? And God makes this comment twice, which I think is pretty important. If you're a young man looking for a wife or a husband that's already married, or if you're a woman that is looking for a good husband, or you're already married to one, don't be contentious. Don't find a contentious woman. Luke 1, 57 through 80. When it was time for Elizabeth's baby to be born, she gave birth to a son. And when her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had been very merciful to her, everyone rejoiced with her. When the baby was eight days old, they all came for the circumcision ceremony. They wanted to name him Zechariah after his father, but Elizabeth said, No, his name is John. What? They exclaimed, There is no one in all your family by that name. So they used gestures to ask the baby's father what he wanted to name him. He motioned for a writing tablet, and to everyone's surprise he wrote his name is John. Instantly Zachariah could speak again, and he began praising God. Awe fell upon the whole neighborhood, and the news of what had happened spread throughout the Judean hills. Everyone who heard about it reflected on these events and asked, What will this child turn out to be? For the hand of the Lord was surely upon him in a special way. Then his father, Zechariah, was filled with the Holy Spirit and gave this prophecy. Praise the Lord, the God of Israel, because he has visited and redeemed his people. He has sent us a mighty Savior from the royal line of his servant David, just as he promised, through his holy prophets long ago. Now we will be saved from our enemies and from all who hate us. He has been merciful to our ancestors by remembering his sacred covenant, the covenant he swore with an oath to our ancestor Abraham. We have been rescued from our enemies, so we can serve God without fear in holiness and righteousness for as long as we live. And you, my little son, will be called the prophet of the Most High, because you will prepare the way for the Lord. You will tell his people how to find salvation through forgiveness of their sins. Because of God's tender mercy, the morning light from heaven is about to break upon us, to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, and to guide us to the path of peace. John grew up and became strong in spirit, and he lived in the wilderness until he began his public ministry to Israel. It's a great picture, isn't it? To give light to those who sit in darkness. Psalm 58, one through eleven. Justice. Do you rulers know the meaning of the word? Do you judge the people fairly? No. You plot injustice in your hearts, you spread violence throughout the land. These wicked people are born sinners. Even from birth they have lied and gone their own way. That sounds familiar these days, doesn't it? They spit venom like deadly snakes. They are like cobras that refuse to listen, ignoring the tunes of the snake charmers no matter how skillfully they play. Break off their fangs, O God. Smash their jaws, smash the jaws of these lions, O Lord. May they disappear like water into thirsty ground. Make their weapons useless in their hands. May they be like snails that dissolve into slime, like a stillborn child who will never see the sun. God will sweep them away both young and old, faster than a pot heats over burning thorns. The godly will rejoice when they see injustice avenged. They will wash their feet in the blood of the wicked. Then at last everyone will say, There truly is a reward for those who live for God. Surely there is a God who judges justly here on earth. I think a lot of times we, if you're trying to follow God, you see these people that are not, that are obviously doing immoral things, and they look successful from an earthly point of view, folks. But you have to remember Christ telling us to store up for ourselves treasures in heaven, not here on earth. It's gonna make a difference in our eternal life how we act here on earth. And that ought to be a little bit scary, perhaps. I mean, it ought to encourage us uh to do what we're supposed to do, but it also should be a great comfort, right? Proverbs 11, 12 through 13. It is foolish to belittle one's neighbor. A sensible person keeps quiet. A gossip goes around telling secrets, but those who are trustworthy can keep a confidence. How often in my life I should have kept my mouth shut, folks. Countryside. If you are looking for a family-friendly middle gravery, if you get a chance, this is the first book in the series, some of the reviews that go with it. Uh there's quite a few more online if you want to check them out. The reviews that is, and this is the second book in the series, some of those reviews. And if you enjoy it, if you would leave a review somewhere online, I would greatly appreciate that. Those help a lot. Also for the podcast, the reviews help. And if you feel like you're getting something uh out of the podcast on a regular basis, if you have five or ten dollars you can spare uh each month, there's a link in the show notes where you can set up that monthly donation, and I would be very grateful for that as well. August 7th, 1998, in Nairobi, Kenya, and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Truck bombs outside detonated outside the U.S. embassies in both cities. Explosions killed 224 people, including 12 Americans, injured over 4,000 others. Muslims, again, folks, I'm I just this isn't new what we're going through with leftism, followers of the left, and followers of Islam. Marxist, Lenin, communist, socialist, Nazi, fascist, it's been going on for a century plus, with Islam for centuries before that. There just is no peaceful coexistence possible there, folks. We can have peace and safety and liberty apart from them, or we can have slavery under them. But but this idea of just coexisting and everybody gets to do their own thing, that just one side or the other is gonna come out on top. And man, if it's if it's the left in Islam, it really is gonna be dark, dark days for the world. And the only solution there is what? To turn back to God and Jesus Christ. Medal of Honor for today, John Brown, first sergeant, highest ranked captain, U.S. Civil War, Alpha Company, 47th Ohio Infantry, U.S. Army, May 19th, 1863, Vicksburg, Mississippi. Voluntarily carried a verbal message from Colonel A. C. Perry to General Hugh Ewing through a terrific fire and in plain view of the enemy. Accredited to Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio, not awarded posthumously, presented August 24, 1896, born 1842, Canada, died August 7th, 1898, District of Columbia, buried Spring Grove Cemetery, 110 TAC 390, Cincinnati, Virginia. John Brown. Just another name, folks. Statistics stats we need to teach our children more so than professional college athletes, lyrics to songs, movie lines. And you compare it again to the illegal and the mass Muslim immigrants that we keep reading about at the beginning of the podcast. We got a couple quotes from presidents today. We're going to try and get through. Again, you can pull these out of a lot of places. I'm pulling these out of America's Patriot Bible, edited by Dr. Richard Lee. It's a great source. Highly recommend you buy a copy, maybe a couple, because it'll fall apart as you read it. Ulysses S. Grant, 18th president. Hold fast to the Bible as the sheet anchor of your liberties. Write its precepts in your hearts and practice them in your lives. To the influence of this book are we indebted for all the progress made in true civilization. And to this we must look as our guide in the future. Righteousness exalteth a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people. Patrick Henry used that quote among many others. That proverb, that's straight out of Proverbs, if you don't know that, righteousness exalteth a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people. The Bible, folks, that's that's the anchor of our nation, right? The rock upon which our republic rests. And if it goes away, if we pretend this coexistence not, people don't even. I saw a post from a pretty large account on X recently, and they were talking about the establishment clause. People have no clue the founder's intent anymore because when you read Fisher Ames, the guy that actually wrote it, he's telling us that the Bible ought to be the primary text in our schools. We've got to teach the Bible for a number of reasons. Right? Our founders understood two things that we do not get today. One is you couldn't force anybody to a faith, but the other is that America could only function as a Christian nation with the people that followed Christ. It can't function any other way. Benjamin Harris, Harrison, 23rd presno. If you take out of your statutes, your constitution, your family life, all that is taken from the sacred book, what would there be left to bind society together? And the answer is nothing. There would be nothing left. There is going to be nothing left if we take all of, and that's what we've been doing since the 1947 Supreme Court decision of Everson v. Board of Education is slowly chipping away at God and Jesus Christ in the Bible, rejecting him. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day, our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not to temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen. God bless y'all. God bless your families. God bless your marriages if you're married. God bless your nation wherever you are around the world listening. God bless America. We'll talk to you all again real soon, folks. Looking forward to it.
