In this podcast, we will discuss five characteristics of a real man!
What makes a man? I grew up I a generation of real men. Salone, Arnold Schwarzenegger Clint Eastwood, Hulk Hogan, Randy MachoMan Salvage! If anyone was a real man it was Machoman!
But is John Wayne's persona what really defines a man? Is a holster required? Boots? Knife? Steven Segall like self-defense skills? Four hours of football or UFC a week? Or do you need to wear black all the time? After all, real men wear black (or at least Raider fans think so). You could take someone who fits all of these descriptions and even fights in the UFC and still end up with a sorry excuse for a man!
So what makes a real man?
1. Real men follow and then lead.
In order to be a man, we must follow. We must especially follow the leading of the Holy Spirit. The leading of the Spirit is essential for us to accomplish what we need to and have called to do. Even Jesus was lead by the Spirit into the wilderness (John 4).
In order to become men who lead we met first become men who follow.
2. Real men know when to sit and when to stand.
As men we are reactors. We see a problem and desire to fix it. We want to let the guy who broke our little girl's heart have it! We want to let that teacher know her place. But a man who is willing to sit and listen to their daughter as much as protect is a real man. A man who knows how to sit at the feet of Jesus and not just continually do is a real man.
3. Real men know their weaknesses.
Weakness is not pain leaving the body. Weakness is the means by which God can receive glory from our bodies. Cryptonite can be devastating or can also be a means for us to help others in their own weakness.
4. Real men are willing to say, "I don't know."
It's ok to be ignorant about things we don't know. Trying to wax eloquent and appearing to have all the answers is not being a real man. Even Peter said about Paul, "As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood." He admitted he might not understand everything Paul taught.
5. Real men have difficult conversations.
