Afrika in Focus Special - Afrikan Emancipation Day and visit to Liverpool Maritime Slave Museum

1 August is Afrikan Emancipation Day.  This is a culturally, historic day for Afrikan people globally as 1 August 1839 was the year the British Empire as it was known then gave 'freedom' to their enslaved Afrikans who they considered as property and not human beings

Following this other European enslavers (Holland, France, Portugal, Spain, Norway, Sweden, United States, Brazil, Belgium, etc ) also began to emancipate their enslaved Afrikans.

Out of these European nations, Britain was the MAIN benefactor of the enslavement of Afrikan people  -- In actual fact all of the roads, schools, universities, railways, bridges and other infrastructure plus ALL the industry of the UK like Tobacco, Sugar, Banking, Insurance, Finance, Shipping, Textile etc was made possible by the vast profits Britain made in the human trafficking of Afrikan Women, Men and Children.

Cities like Liverpool , London, Bristol, Portsmouth, Southampton, Newcastle, Glasgow, Swansea, Cardiff etc were ALL built with the profits of enslaved Afrikans.  In the aftermath of the so called Act of Emancipation that was passed in the UK houses of parliament in 1839,
 The British government paid compensation to over 40,000 White British slave terrorists to the sum of in today's value of more than 20 Billion pounds sterling.   However the enslaved Afrikans whose blood, sweat and tears created the wealth that was the bedrock of British society as we know it got nothing.

This is why the issue of reparations is an important one because Afrikans were stolen raped, tortured, brutalized, castrated and worked FREE of charge for more than 400 years  and the anti Black racist ideologies that emanated from the enslavement process are with us today .
