This week's episode of Ghana in Focus looks at the huge legacy of Dr Kwame Nkrumah on Ghana, Afrika and the world. As far as Ghana is concerned we talk of his legacy in terms of encouraging more women into political life in Ghana by promoting them to prominent positions within the CPP and his government.
We also analyse his various social intervention initiatives like free compulsory education until the University level, free comprehensive healthcare and state housing projects like Airport Residential Area, Labone, Cantonments, Asylum Down and Kanda estates in Accra and Patasi, Kwadaso, Buokrom and North and South Suntreso in Kumasi amongst many others.
Above all we look at his industrialization programme under the 7 year economic development plan which had over 450 factories/enterprises as its showpiece including the Tema - Accra motorway that was built in 1961 , two years before Britain/ UK built its first motorway the M1 in 1963 and the iconic Akosombo Dam.
We also take a look at the colossal and instrumental role Nkrumah played in the formation of the Organization for African Unity (OAU) including that famous speech in May 1963 calling for a United States of Africa.
Finally we take a look at the wider legacy of Nkrumah to the global African family of instilling African pride, dignity and self reliance. For this Nkrumah NEVER dies. Long live Dr Kwame Nkrumah, long live Ghana and long live Africa!!
