Letters From Your Dog
Most of us bring a dog into our lives to enjoy adventures together and have an amazing relationship with our furry friends.
Sometimes life together can feel like a struggle though and we can end up feeling stressed or overwhelmed, or unsure how to best support or dogs.
Dr Holly Tett is a Clinical Psychologist for people and Animal Behaviourist for dogs. She fuses her knowledge of both ends of the lead to help you to better understand each other, overcome challenges and build a loving relationship together, using only kind methods and strategies.
Letters From Your Dog
Should I ignore my dog when they bark, whine, cry??
Barking, crying, whining...all vocalisations are part of normal dog communication. Sometimes though, through our own frustration we can miss the messages that our dogs are trying to give us.
Popular advice is to ignore sounds our dogs make in the hope they stop doing it. Unfortunately this does nothing to strengthen your bond with your dog and it does nothing to help them manage the emotions behind the sounds (anxiety, fear, excitement etc).
In this episode you'll hear:
- How to understand your dog's vocalisations
- How to help your dog feel more comfortable so that troublesome vocalisations start to reduce
