In this episode, we had a fascinating conversation with Karen about what it means to be Jewish in our world today. Karen spoke about her biggest challenge as an American Jew living in Paris - she doesn't feel safe anywhere! After the terrorist attacks in Paris in 2015, she thought about going home to the US where her family thought she would be safer. But then the attack on the Pittsburg Synagogue happened and nothing was less sure. And when people tell her that she can move to Israel, where Jews are supposed to be safer, she responds that having a bomb shelter in your house and sending her unique son to the army doesn't feel so safe to her either. At some point in this episode, it got so emotional for Karen that she shed a few tears of frustration, which I have to admit I feel as well, as I am sure many others do.
