SZN 5 EP 1 - Travis, My Arena/LEO/SWAT/PTSI Retirement/Making Huge Progress In Our Community
Kicking off Season 5 with Travis from the hills of Montana. Travis is medically retired from law enforcement after 24 years of service which consisted of Deputy, Sergeant, SWAT commander&TL. Travis founded My Arena, who's mission is to help the first responder community find peace, healing, and strength as they navigate the mental health challenges during their careers. Travis is actively traveling across the U.S.A. conducting much needed training to normalize mental health and get critical incident standard operating procedures in place.
In 2016, Travis was on patrol as his first day as a Sergeant as the supervisor of a patrol team. Travis and his team responded to a call for service, where Travis ultimately located a 5 year old girl tied up in a garbage back inside of a closet. Travis was offered assistance by the peer support Officer, but declined as he was concerned about how that may affect his position as a supervisor, so he declined and said, "I am good." In 2021, 5 years later, Travis's cup began overflowing and got some help. In 2022, Travis retired with PTSI. Listen to the episode for the entirety of the story.
Travis began sharing his story in order to help others, which ultimately led to him starting My Arena. Travis is currently traveling across the U.S.A. teaching topics such as First Responder Training, Family Education & Support, Transition From First Responder Career, and Consulting.
We discussed some amazing topics that NEED to be incorporated amongst all first responders, such as a 30/60/90/120 day check in following a critical incident and conducting more efficient debriefs.
We hope you enjoy this podcast as much as we did and learn from it. If you wish to reach out to Travis, you can contact him at the following:
