SZN 7 EP 13 - Ryan w/ 911 Training Institute / Police Officer to Dispatcher / Suicide Calls For Service Ended Career / Substance Misuse Saved By A Miracle / Wearing A Mask / Importance of Culturally Competent Therapists
Joining from Southern California via zoom is Ryan with a lot of energy, smiles, and willingness to share his story to help our community. Ryan was a Police Cadet and thought he was going to be a Police Officer for his entire career. While towards the end of Field Training, Ryan decided being a Dispatcher would be a better route for him. After losing a friend and mentor to suicide, each suicide call for service affected him, which he kept to himself due to the stigma and lack of resources. Ryan resigned after answering a call for service regarding a suicide. Listen to how Ryan struggled with substance misuses and was saved by a miracle.
After getting through that challenging time, Ryan began working for 911 Training Institute as the outreach director, where he has been for the past 10 years. 911 Training Institute conducts training and consulting to all public safety focusing on mental health. Working for 911 Training Institute continues to help Ryan with his own challenges while helping our community, which he enjoys.
Thank you to Ryan for hopping on a last minute podcast and for supporting T.O.C.! You can follow and support 911 Training Institute on Instagram at 911TrainingInstitute and their website at www. 911traininginstitute.net.
