The Fisch Bowl

Horror Fandom At Warp Speed

Sam Fisch Season 6 Episode 11

Send us a text

The floor is loud, the badges are bent, and we’re already arguing. From the first hello, we jump straight into the hot coals of horror fandom: which sequels actually move the story forward, and which ones only replay the trailer in longer form. The Scream series takes center stage as we unpack the leaked script saga, rewrites that changed character arcs, and the emotional whiplash of loving a franchise that sometimes loses the thread. One of us left Scream 3 devastated—not by fear, but by a sense of promise broken—and that wound becomes the lens for why sequels must do more than echo their origins.

We pivot to Nightmare on Elm Street to map how a franchise can reinvent itself without burning its roots. Dream Warriors stands tall for its ensemble spirit and operatic imagination; New Nightmare earns equal praise for bringing terror into the “real” world and reshaping meta-horror into something unnervingly sincere. Those contrasts let us define what makes a sequel essential: new stakes, new questions, and a tone that deepens the original myth instead of flattening it. Along the way, we celebrate Barbara Crampton’s range and the tactile wonder of practical effects that give From Beyond and Re-Animator their lasting bite.

Then we dig for treasure in the VHS dark: Lovecraft adaptations that never got the restorations they deserve, footage rumored lost, and the heartbreak of films trapped in rights limbo. That sparks our dream slate—The Cats of Ulthar, The Terrible Old Man, and The Hound—reimagined with veteran horror icons, a moody modern score, and a director who respects shadow and silence as much as spectacle. It’s part wishlist, part manifesto for preserving cult cinema so new fans can discover it beyond grainy bootlegs.

If you’ve ever defended a maligned sequel, hunted for a lost cut, or whispered praise for an underseen classic, you’re among friends here. Hit play, then tell us your top Scream ranking and the one Lovecraft story that deserves the big-screen treatment. Subscribe, share with your horror crew, and drop a review so more fans can find the conversation.

SPEAKER_01:

Alright, Samfish the fish hope here at Warround Time 2025. What?

SPEAKER_02:

I gotta use it.

SPEAKER_01:

Dorothy the male girl.

unknown:

Woo!

SPEAKER_02:

Dorothy the male girl.

SPEAKER_01:

From the last round. Alright. Joe Bob Rick.

SPEAKER_00:

That exists.

SPEAKER_01:

Right, right. Someone who I think we all uh grew up with. Everything. Um I'm a big fan of Cutter Show. Absolutely, absolutely. So we're here at a board. Let's talk about what are some of your favorite what are some of your favorite characters.

SPEAKER_02:

That one, that's my favorite movie of all time. Like any genre of all time is that one. Any genre of all time is right in the final chapter. Favorite movie of horror, not in any genre. Part three would be Howberry Lou Prom Night Two and Nike.

SPEAKER_01:

Awesome. Uh where do I start? Uh everything you just mentioned. Um, uh like Prom 92, bitch Creep and however my favorite screen is a little bit more than a little bit.

SPEAKER_02:

That movie doesn't fucking exist. Fucking screen green of all explains. What can you like about that? They're oh you just made a powerful intermediate.

SPEAKER_01:

I I think it's it's controversially underrated. It's uh rated. I I had a lot of high hopes for screen two. And and I I I know the whole thing would happen how how the the original script up and they had a new bunch of rewrites with it. Um I think just kind of show the kids. I didn't like scene again.

SPEAKER_02:

So that was the only thing I will give you is JD TV, but that was a very conference thing that got that. I think screen two as it is, it's as the purpose of people. And being screen super fan, you have no idea how the story that I was when screen three came about. And I had my tickets to midnight screening opening night and my little costume just so excited. And at the end, I was crying, shedding like bawling, and people around me were like, oh you love me that much. I'm like, fuck no, dude, you piece of shit. And I was how like warm up my fucking posters are on my wall. Do you remember the patching the pirate episode when I had Rob Craig on the warm all the shit out with me with my crew dead? Like Kevin Williams Craig and I was so mad. I hate that and I tried to give it other chances, and at least now it's lost with you on the plane at but that's exactly after what 20 years old at that point because the mother was not a good thing.

SPEAKER_01:

It's just it just reminds me of like like there's there's there's diehard, and there's a diehard with vengeance. You know, and like diehard.

SPEAKER_02:

Are you saying diehard with a vengeance is better?

SPEAKER_01:

Oh, you don't defeatable, but uh kind of I I I like them both equally, but the the more the bigger point I was saying is that we're trying to make it that like diehard with Benge is effectively more three.

SPEAKER_00:

You know what I mean?

SPEAKER_01:

Like Die Hard 2 is like I I the way the flaw line was formulated, you know it's it's the closest I got to like an official.

SPEAKER_02:

I feel like this doesn't have a screen. Like we could I literally for like an hour and a half, I could have wet wrong screen for less than we want. Okay.

SPEAKER_01:

Okay.

SPEAKER_02:

Agree to disagree, but you're lucky you're lucky there is no one here. I wouldn't call you I got nothing.

SPEAKER_01:

Uh well, you know. I like other horror movies too. I mean, honestly, for from West Craven. I I like Nightmare.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, I like Nightmare to breathe about this.

SPEAKER_01:

Well see, I would put I would actually put New Nightmare as nothing that free.

SPEAKER_02:

New Nightmare guys. Yeah, New Nightmare guys.

SPEAKER_01:

Well, actually, then agree that I would put New Nightmare and Fort Defree as like the same.

SPEAKER_02:

That that's just I'll I'll let you have it for the three at least at least we we can agree on.

SPEAKER_01:

I'll let you have it. Okay, let me let me have it. Awesome. Um what else? I mean farmer fan that do it here on a big big uh HD Well trap. Uh I think all three reading is excellent from beyond passive free. Uh everything she's she's been has been phenomenal. Uh big, big favorite. Exactly. Uh one of the biggest, actually my favorite is well, the animator number one would probably be my favorite wildcraft, but I put it in the scene, it's not a kind of like fire because it doesn't get talked about as totally a joke uh type spell is nephenominant. Um still only on VHS. You can only get a blue leg of DVD as surprisingly as it needs to range. Um that would be it it has to, and I I don't think they do with the red one because I know that they punch a lot of footage.

SPEAKER_02:

That would be something honestly if you were able to direct our side. It would, it would. And for me and it's funny for the right, right.

SPEAKER_01:

And and you know, that's just like a deep that uh uh wrote myself real quick. Uh I won uh supply on this horror origins contest for writing benefits.

SPEAKER_00:

Yes.

SPEAKER_01:

Um three brand new Lovecraft stories uh stories that have been really adapted to screen. Uh the cats of all stars, um, terrible man, and uh the hat. Then if I could have my dream cat, uh Barbara Cramden. Barbara Crampton and Jeffrey Collins played on Cat's.

SPEAKER_00:

Directed by Charles Bands.

SPEAKER_01:

Yes, exactly. I get probably grinded.

SPEAKER_00:

And then Charles Grizzly is the music.

SPEAKER_01:

Yes, exactly. Exactly. Exactly. Actually, he was here last year and I guess uh I even said that uh new account. I had that forgotten that they've got uh changes in the West House or uh to play where he's gonna be. But uh the key button, like I want him to play still Jeffrey, uh but I want him to play like the the old old man playing the cat's to play uh love. Uh with like the Indian uh sex, but uh that's a dream uh thing of mine. Uh that's bugging myself real quick, but uh uh where for my listeners, uh viewers, uh where I know we said better than um what's like the next big thing. I like it.

SPEAKER_02:

Uh Weller's is here for Saturday. And um, but okay, the same on that for that. Starting on our seventh is the first Friday of every 7th. So we have the winter. And I'll be supposed to be in all sides of the show.

SPEAKER_01:

Well, I think we're uh we may be at that five minute pass mark. I got you. Dorothy the male girl.

SPEAKER_02:

Lovely lovely to chat with you. A few disagreements, but we'll uh not a disagree. Okay.

SPEAKER_01:

Well we'll do a little of this. Thank you for whipping in the bowl with me.

SPEAKER_02:

Oh, I like the hot. I like the hot.
