SPEAKER_00

Let's do Kit Kats. I don't know about this. He found Kit Kats of the style that was stolen. Oh wow. And we can use the online site to check them and see if they are stolen kit. Oh, cool. Let's do that.

SPEAKER_01

Yep.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

unknown

I'm on the ball.

SPEAKER_03

Okay. Also, we started, right? We just did that. I was acting like that was going. That was good.

SPEAKER_01

We are running?

SPEAKER_00

Okay. Were we filming?

SPEAKER_03

We're filming.

SPEAKER_00

Or did that film? Oh. Oh, for goodness sake, Donald. And you want to be my Toadie. Dan, I've been your Toadie for like, I don't know, closest to four years. That's true. And how many times have I fired you?

SPEAKER_01

Three times?

SPEAKER_00

We're running to so black. Did we get the Kit Kat thing on camera? Let's just assume that we did. Okay. So we're going to do the Kit Kat thing. I'm going to say this again just in case. Donald, while in England, acquired Kit Kats of the stolen variety from the famed Kit Kat Heist. The Kit Kat Company set up a website where you can check and see if your Kit Kat is legal. Yeah. And I was about to say, oh, these melted, but no, it's in the shape of a car. I have kept them pristine.

SPEAKER_01

I was so excited when I found them. I immediately sent a picture to both of them. It's like, I did it. So what do we do? Like this number on the back? So yes. However, Dan, do you want to deliver? Do I want to deliver? You know where I'm going with this, I hope. A food heist?

SPEAKER_00

Well, the update to the food heist. The update to this food heist? Yeah. So it's not exciting. Uh they have some leads. That's all it is. Okay. What are the leads? They don't tell us what the leads are, just that relevant authorities are following them up. I mean, there is there are multiple leads in the UK. I've been to You've been to at least one of them. I've been to two.

SPEAKER_03

Because there's that we went when we were in the UK this last time, we went to Leeds Castle. And in It is not in Leeds. Where is it? It's like an hour outside of London.

SPEAKER_00

It's called Leeds Castle. It's called Leeds Castle. London just steals everything in the country.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. It was nice. Nobody else can have anything nice. Really cool. Because there was this like Falconer guy there who did like a Falcon demonstration. And we bought a hangout with the Falconers and things like that. And then they'd overbooked. And he wrote back and like, I'm so sorry. We overbooked, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. He's like, I'll give you a tour if you want one instead. And so we got there and he had one of the volunteers, because he had to do the other thing that we couldn't do, who had worked there for many years, take us and show us all the birds behind the scenes and all their names and talk about them.

SPEAKER_00

Uh and so neat. Wait, birds?

SPEAKER_03

Birds, falcons.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, the falcons. Yeah, that's right. Yeah. So I forgot what you were saying halfway through the sentence. That's all right.

SPEAKER_03

I was like, there's birds at Leeds Castle. It's like that moment from what, the Lego movie. Yeah, can you repeat that? I wasn't paying any attention. But no, so they were really cool to us. Mm-hmm. That's good. And yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So it says the Kit Kat Leeds are being followed up by relevant authorities. Okay. And I've watched enough British crime dramas to know that the relevant authorities are extremely dour people who have no joy in their lives.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. They might play violin and do cocaine, though.

SPEAKER_00

They might. Sherlock Holmes. Okay. Sherlock Holmes. Yeah. I chose not to go with the joke about just naming every like Doctor Who's following up. Yeah. I don't know who follows up on crimes in England.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Except for unhappy people.

SPEAKER_03

Well, we gotta we gotta tip in our nose.

SPEAKER_01

What do we do? You have a program? So this was the program. This is why I was actually disappointed. I have looked through this while we were doing it. Oh, so they've stopped. They've taken down the test your kit cats then? They've taken it down. This is the test. So when I was trying to bring it up. For goodness sake. We were too slow. So you bought these like child slavery authentic Nestle KitKats.

SPEAKER_03

Excuse me, these are not Nestle. Once again.

SPEAKER_01

It says Nestle right on there.

SPEAKER_03

So this is EU.

SPEAKER_01

Because I bought them in the EU. If this is EU KitKats, then they gotta be the evil KitKats.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, right. Nest that's right. So the UK ones are evil and the US ones are not? That's what you told me before. Okay. I know that they're the other companies. No, you're right. This is Nestle. This is Nestle.

SPEAKER_00

Nestle must be. And these say UK only. They also say don't recycle at home, which again, what an evil company.

SPEAKER_01

Oh yeah. No, so when I went to do it, when you came in, Dan, I looked it up and I was like, oh, okay, this will do it. No, this is their update. You can no longer type it in because they apparently have found enough. Okay.

SPEAKER_00

So there's a US is Hershey. US is Hershey. So we have the free range KitKats. Yes.

SPEAKER_03

No, no, we don't have the free range Kit Kat.

SPEAKER_00

No, US has them, but we aren't holding them. Okay. So I didn't get one.

SPEAKER_01

Did it look like? Never mind.

SPEAKER_00

Phone is not reading the QR code on the back.

SPEAKER_01

It's not a Kit Kat. So what does it look like? I didn't actually see it. Crunch bar.

SPEAKER_00

What?

SPEAKER_01

What?

SPEAKER_00

All this fuss about stolen Kit Kats and their crunch bars? They're not KitKats. Donald, they can't do anything.

SPEAKER_01

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Hold on. Wait. The story said it was absolutely these ones. And I confirmed it when I bought them where I bought them from. Okay. Dear English. Is yours a Kit Kat? Do you know what a Kit Kat is? This isn't a Kit Kat. Wait. So it's just, does it say Kit Kat?

SPEAKER_03

It says Kit Kat. Here, have a bite of mine. Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, it's just a crunch bar. It's worse than a crunch bar because it has that really melty Kit Kat chocolate on it.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, this is not a And it's vaguely shaped like a car.

SPEAKER_01

Oh yeah. That looks like a there you go, Dan. That looks good. What the heck? That's not a Kit Kat bar. Okay.

SPEAKER_00

I've been lied to.

SPEAKER_03

Okay, we are now on the side of these thieves. They just wanted to destroy these abominations. Yeah.

unknown

Have a rule one.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, look at that. We got KitKats.

SPEAKER_00

These are made in America. Ethically sourced Kit Kats.

SPEAKER_03

Yes, because the Hershey Company, I'm sure, is very ethical.

SPEAKER_00

Compared to Nestle, most companies are ethical.

SPEAKER_03

This is a Kit Kat.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. You can break it.

SPEAKER_01

That's crazy.

SPEAKER_00

It's got the cookie inside.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, so we've debated KitKats so many times before about if it's a single piece or not. That technically, the English one, is a single piece. Well, at least for this. Yeah, but we determined that officially a Kit Kat is single.

SPEAKER_00

Or the whole thing. The whole thing. Yes. With fingers. With fingers, that's right. I'm swallowing chocolate wrong. Okay, I want all of our UK and possibly EU listeners to let us know are you okay, first of all? And is this just the Kit Kats you have to put up with? Just bad crunch bars.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Or do you get the real ones with like cookie wafers inside?

SPEAKER_03

Let's point out a crunch bar is already bad.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Crunch bar is not your first choice ever. No. And this is like a crunch bar with worse chocolate.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I thought that EU was supposed to have better chocolate than us. They usually do. They usually do.

SPEAKER_03

That chocolate was not very good. No, it was very chocolate around the Kit Kat, which is not very good, but the whole Kit Kat is an enjoyable experience. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

The thing that makes the Kit Kat good is that there's a very thin shell of bad chocolate around the cookie wafers. Yeah. My goodness. Wow. Okay, my whole world has been upended. I don't even know if we can go on.

SPEAKER_03

Well, I've got fun to say about the UK.

SPEAKER_00

I just got back. Okay.

SPEAKER_03

It kind of dovetails in.

SPEAKER_00

Can I tell you a food heist real quick? I would love to hear a food heist first. So imagine what is the food heist you would suspect to happen in Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania. Well, that's where Hershey's is from. Well, it's not Hershey's. What's the most stereotypical Pennsylvania? Pennsylvanian pilgrims.

unknown

Turkeys.

SPEAKER_00

They're stealing turkeys. Pilgrims were stolen. No. $250,000 worth of cheesesteak meat. Ah, yeah.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, the You gotta say Philly rather than Pennsylvania, because Philly is different from the city.

SPEAKER_00

See, this was in Delaware County, Upper Derby, Pennsylvania.

SPEAKER_03

It wasn't in Philly.

SPEAKER_00

It's not Philadelphia. So I think they have cheesesteaks all over the place. A cheesesteak heist is awesome. It is awesome. So it doesn't say if they also stole like a bunch of peppers and stuff. Yeah. Anyway. Is this a high stakes cheesesteaks heist? A high steaks cheesesteaks. Someone was taking cheesesteaks in a high stakes heist.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

We're terrible. We are not giving this crime the gravity that it deserves.

SPEAKER_03

Hey, I call them high stakes.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, wait. The headline says $250,000 worth of cheesesteak meat. Further down in the article, it says police estimate that more than $500,000 worth of meat has been stolen in total. So half of it was cheesesteak meat and the other half was like taco meat or something. I don't know what they were stealing.

SPEAKER_03

Hey Donald, if you give marijuana to the cows, are those high stakes?

SPEAKER_01

Yes, those are high stakes. You think that's who stole this?

SPEAKER_03

Cows with the munchies eating. Cannibal cows with the munchies. Cannibal cows with the munchies because they've had too much. Is marijuana legal?

SPEAKER_01

That's I you're thinking of the same thing.

SPEAKER_00

I'm gonna look it up right now because we will have to. Cannibal cow high stakes. Take cheesesteaks in a high stakes heist.

SPEAKER_01

Yep. Yep. Let's see. Details at 10. It is only for medical use. Okay, what medical ex so being cannibal is.

SPEAKER_00

I mean they're cannibals and they're thieves. Do they care about Pennsylvania's rules for absolutely? Okay.

SPEAKER_03

And they've got some chronic back problems. Yes. And they got glaucoma.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Yeah. Makes sense to me.

SPEAKER_04

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_00

Flawless. Anyway, welcome to our very serious news show. I'm Dan, and this is my co-host, Skippy Vermont.

SPEAKER_03

Skippy Vermont. Skippy Vermont. Hey, I'll take it because do you know he used to give Ben nicknames like every week? Yeah. And I didn't get any. That's my favorite.

SPEAKER_00

It's my favorite thing to do, is give Ben nicknames.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah. And do you know that I canonized all those nicknames as villains? They've all shown up.

SPEAKER_00

Some of them have shown up in the acknowledgments. Yep. Mm-hmm. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

So they're all villains of Wax and Wayne.

SPEAKER_00

This happens to my kids as well. They they all have several nicknames because I love giving nicknames. Yeah, Bubba. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Do you go through like I know my parents would always do like Donald, kid one, kid two, kid three before they get to my name or something close to the kids.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I do that a lot, mostly with my boys, but it happens sometimes with the girls. It does happen to me too.

SPEAKER_01

But is it with the nicknames? Because I was gonna say, when did they translate?

SPEAKER_00

The nicknames are always accurate. If I try to use their real names, then it fails catastrophically. So yeah. Usually my boys are all named Lincoln Noah Ethan because Alright, Dan.

SPEAKER_03

UK. Let's talk about the UK. Let's talk about the UK on this.

SPEAKER_00

I actually love the UK. I've been there a couple of times. Dig it.

SPEAKER_03

So coming back this time.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_03

I have decided what my favorite thing food-wise about the UK is. And my least favorite thing food-wise about the UK. Do you have any guesses? What I have to be like, you know, UK gold star to you for is.

SPEAKER_00

Uh boy. What you think is the best food in the UK.

SPEAKER_03

Remember, I was in London.

SPEAKER_00

And you were in London. Just where do they get their gold, their goldest star of several gold stars? They are not known for steaks, but they are known for roasts and for Wellington. I'm gonna say a really good beef wellington in London might be the pure Brandon food.

SPEAKER_03

I love a good beef wellington. I have had it in London. Okay. But I was with my kids this time, so guess what we ordered a lot of? Oh man, chips. Yep. Mm-hmm. They do chips really well. Chips. Like this time, again, I had my kids with me, so I wasn't going to the as many of the fancy places that I normally go to. And I just have to say, British chips are superior to any fry in America. They just are. Even five guys.

SPEAKER_00

From the right place. Yeah. If they come from the right place. I mean, I'm sure there are some bad ones, but I didn't have a bad one this time. Yeah, and people always say that chips are what British people call fries. They're not. No, they're completely different.

SPEAKER_03

You can order fries in the UK. Yeah. My kids got fries. They didn't call them chips on the menu. They called them fries and they came as fries.

SPEAKER_04

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_00

So a really good chip from like a chippy fish and chip shop. Yep. You know, would they have been properly fried, especially if they've been battered? Yeah. Oh my goodness.

SPEAKER_03

And so I came to the decision like America's known for fast food and fries. It's kind of a shame that our best fries are not as good as the UK's average chips in London. So good job, uh London. There are a lot of things you could have said. We did manage to get out to an Indian food restaurant, and it was, as you would imagine, incredible. I had a briani and it came baked with a crust almost like a pot pie with a briani in the center. That sounds awesome. And I hadn't had it that way. You can tell me if this is how it's supposed to be. Because normally you order a briyani and it, you know. Or if it's just British fusion. Or it was something, or if it's like a from a specific region of India, but it was it was incredible. So that was really good. So my biggest complaint is not hard to guess. It's the same every time. Is it fried fish? No. No. I like that they have good fried fish because my wife likes fried fish. Okay. I and I don't have to eat it. Okay. What was it? It was British people. Wait, what? British people aren't. No, no, no, no. This is me addressing people. Okay. Oh, I know, but I'm dressing.

SPEAKER_00

I can't not let that go by without making a joke. British people.

SPEAKER_03

Ice and drinks is really good. It is really, really good. And I know British people who've come to live in America who, after a short period of time, are like, wow, why don't we put ice in our drinks?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. It's not just about temperature. It completely changes the flavor. It does the water. And I know you like lukewarm water. I love a lukewarm water. Like I said a few months ago, I'm coming around to slightly chilled water, but yeah. But like, why can't we have ice cubes?

SPEAKER_03

You don't generally have air conditioning. It was a heat wave. Ice and drinks is really good, guys. It tastes delicious. It changes the flavor. And I get the oddest looks when I'm like, can I get a cup of ice? And it's so funny because they bring you a cup with a little spoon in it to spoon out an ice cube. And then I take the spoon out and I dump the other cup they've given me into the cup of ice and then I drink that.

SPEAKER_00

I think ice in drinks is like Europe's version of America not adopting the metric system. We're stuck in our ways. We think that it's better, but as soon as we try it, as soon as you guys try it, it's it's obviously better. Like I can understand the French.

SPEAKER_03

But they're Evian, not wanting to ice their water. Oh, you don't put not you don't put ice in your water.

SPEAKER_00

Even the French.

SPEAKER_03

Try it, guys.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. All across Europe. Put ice in your water. Just trust me. Just try it like for a week and you won't be able to go back. Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

So this is my big food complaint for the UK. Every time I come back, I'm like, why can't why can't you just order an ice water and it comes with ice in it? You'll order an ice water and it'll come cold with no ice. So let's see. What else do I love about London? We've talked about before, but I took my kids to two plays. Okay. And London just like the theaters are a little smaller and a little more intimate. The tickets are cheaper. And I don't know if that's the reason I always find the plays just a little bit better. It probably is. Because I'm sure the actors in the US are just as good and things, but the plays are really good. What uh plays did you go see? So I had my kids with me, and so I took them to the two staples.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_03

The classics.

SPEAKER_00

Oklahoma. Yeah. And Sound of Music.

SPEAKER_03

Oh, not any get your gun. Come on. Phantom and Lay Miz. Phantom and Lay Miz. And I do have a gripe about Le Miz. Oh, which is that they changed Le Miz. What? What? You guys didn't know this? No. So they did a re-gender swap, everybody? That'd be fun. The people who wrote the original one came in and said, we're doing a new version of Le Miz. Oh. And all the new productions will be this new version of Le Miz. They George Lucas'd? They George Lucas'd. Now, they only George Lucas'd in some small ways. They got rid of the rotating presentation. Rotating set. Which is fine. Yeah. With me. I love the rotating present. When did you see Le Miz for the first time?

SPEAKER_00

I saw it actually on a touring company that came through Utah and it did Capitol Theater downtown Salt Lake. And it was a very good production, but it was basically just Lay Miz in concert where people stand on stage and sing at you. Like there wasn't a lot of blocking. There was and I feel like the set contributed to that.

SPEAKER_03

Because the one that I saw, they were always stepping on and off of the spinning stage, and things were rotating up to them. Like they would put their hand out and the set would rotate to and stop at their hand and stuff like this. It was so cool. And the rotating stage let you have two people across from the fence, like when you've got like Marius and Cosette or whatever, and the stage was rotating slowly to show both sides of them as they were speaking with each other. And then when the when the barricade rotates at the end and you see all the dead bodies on the front of it, it's anyway, rotating stage, but mentioned that without the rotating stage, they did gain some things. And some of the big powerful songs were like Le Miz and concert. They could step up in front. And so the rotating stage I miss, but it's not my main complaint. My main complaints are they sped up the tempo just a little bit of some of the songs in order to try to get out faster. Okay. Huh. And I don't like it as much. Yeah. They're still good, but they sped up everything just a little bit. And they cut Gavroche's song again in order to get out faster.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, if you look at your own production and you're like, you know what I think the audience wants? Less of this.

SPEAKER_03

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

Like, that's a just a bad sign in general.

SPEAKER_03

So those are the two ones I noticed. I bet there's other big ones. I bet the theater buffs. Because the last time I saw Les Miss was like 2018. And so they cut that, and the the set wasn't as cool because of the, you know, you didn't have the sides fold down and become the barricade. They did add one thing I appreciate. Which was the bishop at the end appears after Fantine appears to beckon Jean Valjean. He stands up in his white clothes representing that he's died, and then the bishop emerges and hugs him. Oh, that's cool. That's nice. Yep. And so and they had kind of like in the background everybody who died in the thing. So thumbs up on that. I like that. Okay. You know, Les Miz, I love, right? Les Mis, I've mentioned, is my favorite classic novel. It is not subtle. No, right? No. So it's okay to add a moment like that that is a little cheesy because you're already tearing up and things like that, and such a good song. I read online, some people are like, adding the bishop at the end is cheesy. I'm like, what show did you went to? Guys, this is Le Miz. Right. So there you are. That's one of my takeaways from London. It's Mr. Incredible. Why did they change math? Why do they change Le Miz? Yeah. La Miz is Le Miz. It's the most famous and most popular stage play ever. You don't need to change Le Miz, but you change Le Miz. Crazy. That's a wild shit. And Phantom was Brighton? Phantom was great. Phantom was Phantom.

SPEAKER_00

They were doing Phantom and Le Miz at the same time in London.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Have they just been doing them constantly for the phone? I don't think Phantom is left.

SPEAKER_03

And I don't know about Le Miz, but I think that smaller, they don't have to make as much because they don't have as many big productions. They have the smaller playhouses and things, so they can stay longer.

SPEAKER_00

So those are both shows that I in my mind mean spectacle.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And so smaller productions of them seem counterintuitive to me.

SPEAKER_03

Smaller is just a little bit smaller.

SPEAKER_00

Just a little smaller.

SPEAKER_03

Like it's like two-thirds the size or something like that of the number of people. Okay. Does that make sense?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and I see what you're thinking because the most recent show I saw on Broadway was Hades Town. And that is in a pretty small theater anyway. And so I was thinking, smaller than that? Are you nuts? But I've seen other Broadway shows that have much bigger stages. So okay. It wouldn't have been smaller than this.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Well, we saw me and Brandon had seen Hades Town in London. And with that smaller stage, they did incredible work with the stage. Like it was fantastic.

SPEAKER_03

And they had a rotator. Everybody was super cool. Super cool to meet everybody. I got recognized a lot.

SPEAKER_04

Really?

SPEAKER_03

Yep. Um, I'm used to it here. I'm used to it most places, but I got recognized a lot in the UK. My kids were rolling their eyes so many times. If Oliver were here, he would come up and be like, yeah, we can't take him anywhere.

SPEAKER_00

I'm so sick of this.

SPEAKER_01

Uh-huh.

SPEAKER_00

So cool.

SPEAKER_01

Have your kids, because my dad, for those who don't know, who made Fortnite, he'll occasionally get recognized. We had it happen the other day. Have they gotten used to it yet?

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, they have, but they complain every time. But it's like a jokey complaint. Right. The thing about the UK people is there's a lot more recognized. And a nod and a thumbs up. And a lot less of the right. And that's what you would expect. But it is the emotional reserve of Europeans. It is what you would expect. It really does happen where you look and they nod and they're like, good job with the books, mate. You know, rather than the rather than holy crap. Yeah. I only got like two holy craps, and one was at Leeds Castle. And it was like a 13-year-old, right? Nice. And the other one was on the streets of Oxford, right? And student town, you're going to get a little more emotion. Yeah. We did get to go to the Tolkien, the Eagle and Child. The Eagle and Child.

SPEAKER_00

Which is a cool little pub thing.

SPEAKER_03

Except it's all under construction now. Oh, it is?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03

So did were you not able to go inside? They let us go inside, but it's it's the UK. So guess what we had to do? Uh I don't know. Since it's an active construction site, even though no one was working there.

SPEAKER_00

Okay.

SPEAKER_03

And it was very, very safe. We had to wear not just hard hats. But high viz vests. High Viz vests. Yeah. And boots with steel toes. Really? That we had to change into. And then we had to sign in. Okay. So, but we got to go to the little room with the inklings. Yep. See the little booth. Yep. And the little wall. It's under renovation because the pub is so small, they could not turn a profit. It is really tiny. There's like three rooms and you could sit four people. It's like a 12-person pub. Yeah. And it just so little that it closed during COVID. I feel like I remember there being a big back area of it. Well, if there was, it's been destroyed now. Because we walked out into an empty courtyard. So maybe there was more there. But they were showing us this is where it ended when it was Tolkien's time. So maybe, maybe there was a bigger pub involved later on. But it is now owned by one of the Ellisons who's doing like a renovation, like rebuild project in Oxford for some reason. He has a connection there. So so yeah. That's fun. So we got going there, and there was a dumpster out front with bricks, and they let us take a brick. Nice. So we will at some point have a brick from the Eagle and Child. We have a brick that that Tolkien walked past at some point. Awesome.

SPEAKER_00

That's great. And C.S. Lewis. And C.S. Lewis. And the third guy. And the other guy. Yeah. The other guy is I don't know. That's Cavarati. There's Placido Domingo. And then there's Juan Carreras. Jose Carreras. Jose Carreras? Yeah. He's I think he's the third guy in the Inklings as well.

SPEAKER_03

So yeah, and there's Buzz Aldrin.

SPEAKER_00

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_03

What? And there's the three astronauts.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Buzz. Buzz Aldrin and then Jose Carreras.

SPEAKER_03

SPEAKER_00

SPEAKER_03
