How is a Dryad born?

Deep within the ancient forest, Fenrir witnesses something he never expected: a young human girl led into the wilderness by a hungry wolf.

At first, Fenrir believes he is watching a predator lure its prey into the forest. The wolf is young, strong and hungry. The little girl is alone, vulnerable and completely unaware of the danger surrounding her.

But something is wrong.

The wolves do not attack.

Instead, the girl discovers a trapped wolf pup and risks herself to save it. As she frees the helpless animal, the relationship between human and wolf changes. The wolves accept her. The forest falls silent. And something ancient begins to awaken beneath the earth.

A tiny green shoot emerges from the soil.

Fenrir watches as the wolves celebrate around the child and realises that he has witnessed something extraordinary: the beginning of a new spirit of nature.

Something has been born.

Something green.

Something young.

Something that will one day become a Dryad.

But Fenrir does not yet understand what this tiny plant will become, or how its fate will eventually become connected to Dreana, the mysterious girl of Brotonne Forest, the ancient oak, and the werewolf mythology surrounding William Marshal's medieval adventure.
