For the last couple of months I have been absolutely swamped with work and family, and the podcast fell to the side a bit. So let’s dive right back into your practice.
Today’s episode is about words having to do with winter. If you’re living in Belgium or the Netherlands, you’ll probably need those words these days. It’s been really cold and grey.
You know how this podcast works: first listen to the story, and try to understand as much as you can. You can follow along on the show’s transcript if you want.
Then we’ll go over it sentence by sentence. I’ll give you the English version first, and then you have some time to try and translate, and repeat the correct sentence. Out loud of course! It’s a really good way to train your brain and automatize all these expressions.
Alright? Here we go, Dutch text first. The story starts with the weather: it’s cold, it snows. Commuters, people going to work, are waiting for the train. And two of them start talking.
Het is ijskoud vandaag.
Het sneeuwt.
Er ligt ijs op de daken.
De rivier is bevroren.
De lucht is grijs.
De pendelaars staan te bibberen op het perron.
De trein heeft vertraging.
Er ligt ijzel op de sporen.
Hey, Peter! Neem jij ook de trein vandaag?
Ja, het is te gevaarlijk met de fiets.
Het is te glad.
Ze hebben geen zout gestrooid op de fietspaden.
Ik ga ook met de trein.
Ik fiets niet graag in de vrieskou.
En ik vond mijn handschoenen niet.
Hopelijk blijft de sneeuw liggen.
