12.24.21 Preparing to Remember: Exploring the True Meaning of Advent

Karen

The word advent refers to both the coming of someone or something of great importance and the advance preparation for that coming.  The irony of the Christmas season, which is also called the season of Advent, is that every year we prepare for a celebration for someone who has already come and who is already here. In essence, the season of Advent is really a time where we prepare our hearts in advance to remember what has already happened. Not only does God deserve this. We need it.

This preparation to remember echoes the sentiments of  Psalm 126, a Psalm of Ascent.  Psalm 126; Deuteronomy
