They know that He’s dead, so they presume that they are seeing a ghost. But in the encounter, as Luke describes it, Jesus clearly demonstrates to them that He is no ghost, rather He gives them good reason to believe that He has been raised from the dead. And this gives us good reason to believe that He has been raised from the dead.
