The debut collaborative album from doPE—a project by The Doors' drummer John Densmore and Public Enemy's Chuck D—is titled no country for old men. The 2026 Record Store Day (RSD) exclusive release features the 2026 RSD Song of the Year, "every tick tick tick". do-Doors PE = Public Enemy
The project's origins trace back to a 2014 Record Store Day panel, where the two music legends first met. A year later, Chuck D reached out to Densmore with a simple pitch: “You've got the beats, I've got the rhymes, let's make doPE”. The resulting record blends spoken word, rhythm, and raw social commentary to bridge generations of musical rebellion. Maggie & John discuss the project and listen to tracks together with John's play by play insight into the songs & messages. We also discuss the recent Bruce Springsteen American Music Honors concert where The Doors were honored.
The Bruce Springsteen American Honors program—formally called American Music Honors—is an annual awards and celebration event created and presented by the Bruce Springsteen Archives & Center for American Music. Its purpose is to recognize artists who have had a profound and lasting impact on American music and culture.
According to the Center, the program exists to honor American artists who demonstrate artistic excellence, creative integrity and a long term commitment to music’s role in American life. The 2026 honorees for the Bruce Springsteen Center for American Music's annual American Music Honors were Dionne Warwick, Patti Smith, Dr. Dre, The E Street Band, and The Doors. The fourth annual ceremony took place on April 18, 2026, at Monmouth University’s Pollak Theatre.
The album No Country for Old Men by doPE (the collaboration between Chuck D and John Densmore) was released by the independent record label Org Music.
Host Maggie LePique, a radio veteran since the 1980's at NPR in Kansas City Mo. She began her radio career in Los Angeles in the early 1990's and has worked for Pacifica station KPFK Radio in Los Angeles since 1994.
