Finding Peace in Business Success
After achieving business stability, I've discovered how to navigate the uncomfortable feeling of calmness while continuing to grow personally and professionally. Many entrepreneurs work hard to create control in their business, but when they finally achieve it, they experience discomfort that can feel like boredom.
• Implementing a structured self-care strategy with scheduled Pilates, monthly facials, and massages
• Building valuable one-on-one relationships through regular coffee meetings with industry contacts
• Connecting with people outside work who offer valuable knowledge and perspectives
• Dedicating time to content consumption through podcasts, books, and learning opportunities
• Creating content that evolves with your experience level to attract the right quality of clients
• Recognizing that activities that don't look like traditional "work" can be most beneficial for business growth
• Embracing the calm space in your calendar as an opportunity for meaningful business evolution
If you have a calm, in-control business and spend your days doing things I've talked about, I'd love to hear from you! Send me a message, hit the fan mail button on this podcast, send me a DM on socials, or do a post and tag me.

All right. So I'm totally aware that this podcast isn't going to resonate with everybody, because it is something that I have experienced recently and I've also spoken to some other people in the last sort of 6-12 months as well who have also experienced the same. So I want to talk about it and that is I don't even want to say boredom, but I want to talk about it and that is I don't even want to say boredom, but I want to talk about calmness in business and getting your business to a point where it is under control and it's calm and it's just ticking over. And quite often we talk about business and we are always talking about pain points and what we're trying to strive for and work towards and always doing more and more. But there are some of us out there and I am one of them that has experienced this where everything's tracking along really nicely in business. Business is the least of my worries in my life and there is a calmness and everything's under control.
Speaker 1:And what happened was this started probably I want to say maybe about like maybe eight, 10 months ago where everything was just falling into place processes, stuff were stabilized, operations, manager came in and took an absolute load off me and all of a sudden I had delegated everything in the business and I was left basically from scratch, like I've got spare time. What am I going to do with my time? And what was actually really interesting was that when I went through this thought and this feeling, which was really really awkward I mean, I know that so many of you guys listening have experienced the same uncomfortable feeling of being bored because we're in an industry where we're so used to being busy, busy, and there's always things to do and always tasks to work on and audits to do Like we never seem to just be satisfied that potentially our work's done for the day and go home Like that's just not the way that we've all experienced our roles. And so when you have worked so hard to create control in the business and then you finally get it, it's a really awkward feeling and it's a good feeling, but it's just odd. So I was trying to really digest what it is that I was feeling at the time and I was like I don't want to say I'm bored, because I feel a bit guilty if I say I'm bored, but I also don't want to be filling up my spare time with more work, which I've just been trying really hard not to do, and it was just like literally playing mind tricks on me. So the chaos had stopped and I needed to really get comfortable with this feeling and reassess how I was going to do with it.
Speaker 1:So the first thing I thought to myself is that I'm going to have to start filling my I have to fill my time with something, but what am I going to fill it with? And there were actually three things that now I reflect on it, I filled my diary up with, so that's what I'm going to talk to you today. So, like I said not speaking to everyone, but if you have got calmness and control in your business which there is no reason to feel guilty about it and you're going through that uncomfortable stage. These are the three things that I started doing and changing. So the first one was my self-care strategy. So that was something that I was definitely lacking previously, and again I speak to many of you who are saying you work, work, work. You forget about your self--care. So that was the first thing. I was like, if I can put these things in my diary, then I'm going to feel a little bit better, that I've got stuff to do so.
Speaker 1:Those that follow me on Instagram know that I started doing Pilates, so I do when I can try and do daily Pilates. I find doing it at lunchtime worked really, really well for me, and so I got into that routine of like working in the mornings, then Pilates and then in the afternoon I was just taking a little bit more slower running any errands, whether they were work or personal, but I also made sure that I had a monthly facial booked in and a monthly massage booked in. Facial booked in and a monthly massage booked in. So I just really, I guess, had the opportunity to prioritize these as important appointments. So for me to prioritize them, I have to book them in advance. What I did is we've got a bath house here in Perth and so I just created a six-month membership where every month they deduct, you know, the money from my account and I get a receipt every month and that's my reminder. Okay, you just paid another month, book your bathhouse session in, which is with the bathhouse and a massage, best in Perth, and that is just just something that just happens. And because I'm paying for automatically each month, I have to book in because I don't want to waste that money. So that's the first thing. I did Exactly the same with my facials and with that I'm sort of booking I'm having it and then I'm booking in the next one. So it's constantly already booked a month in advance.
Speaker 1:And then the daily Pilates I just do. I have that blocked out in my diary every day. So I've got now. I don't get there every day, but I do get there maybe like four or five times a week on a bad week. So that's still pretty good. So that's the first thing that I'm filling my calendar. So the second thing that I was filling, or that I still do fill my calendar up with, is all my one-on-one relationships, and to someone else it might just look like oh Hasha's out having coffees, but I'm actually building really good face-to-face relationships with people.
Speaker 1:So, whether that's others, there's two different types of people. There are the people in the industry that I'm connecting with through Coffee and Conversations, and I learn so much from those coffee catch-ups. So quite often we've got a variety of people and the topics are always around business and subscriptions and products and things like that. So I do find that incredibly helpful. So those catch-ups I do once or twice a week these days. So that's really good, that fills in my diary and there's a huge benefit for me, for my business, to attend to those. And then there are catch-ups that I do with people that might not necessarily be work-related, but people that I can potentially learn something from. So I've caught up with coffee just from people that I've met at networking events, like coaches or maybe it's other coaches in the industry where we just catch up. Or most recently, you know Claudia you would have listened to her podcast, you know having some catch ups with her because I can actually learn quite a lot from people like that. So that definitely it definitely fills up my diary. So I yeah, I nearly have like a face-to-face catch up with someone most days. So that feels so between that and my Pilates, I'm literally starting to fill it out quite a lot.
Speaker 1:But they're still so beneficial because the thing is, if you are personally comfortable personally ticking all the boxes, work will perform and your energy towards work is going to perform. So there is a really strong correlation between having these catch-ups. So, while it just does look like to some people, oh, just having coffees and there's no value in them, there is so much value or I see incredible value for me and my business by attending them. So that's why I always think it's crazy when other business owners don't let their team come to them because it's like, oh my gosh, like I get so much value and I'm someone who's been in the industry for, you know, 25 years and I still get so much value out of them. So I just can't fathom when someone thinks, oh, you know what a waste of an hour, it's like hell, it's like, yeah, it's not, it's such an important part. Anyway, I digress.
Speaker 1:So we've got the self-care which we've put into the diary. We've got the relationship, in-person relationships and not discarding the various types of catch-ups that you can do. And then the third thing is all around my lead generation and listening to podcasts, reading books, creating content, and that really helps my business move forward and it gives me ideas. It gives me content ideas. It again just as equal, you know, just as much as the coffee convo is when you're getting speaking to people and learning from other people. That's exactly the same with books and podcasts and I do take on so much from them. So for me, that helps me. And actually going out and doing that self-care and catching up with people, all of that creates me content because I'm always out doing something, so I've now got content to post.
Speaker 1:I'm very curious with lots of different things that I'm listening to and learning, like today I was listening to just a short 15-minute podcast and what I found really interesting in this is that and you can make this relevant for property managers or BDMs or business owners as well but it was actually a podcast directed to consultants and it was saying that when you first start, you know working consultant, or let's just say you're first working, you know you're in your business and first start working with new clients. So that is relevant to everyone listening today. But then, as you get more experience in your career or as you get more experience with your consultancy, you change, you learn, you improve as that business owner, as that property manager, as that consultant. But what happens is, even though you are advancing so much in your career and your space, you are still doing content and marketing for the person that you were before and the client that you were matched to before. And what happens is that as we get that experience, we are not changing our content and our messaging to attract that new, higher quality client. That's now in line with our extra years of experience and all of that. So I found that incredibly interesting because that's why lately I've been doing a lot in that messaging space and really revamping that, because who our business was attracting 20 years ago when we started is completely different now, because our clients now have got 20 years worth of wealth and knowledge and experience when it comes to investing our own portfolios, our own business. So of course, it makes sense that I am now going to be chasing a different quality of client, so it's relevant for anyone, anyway.
Speaker 1:So I was listening to this podcast today and then I was catching up with Joe Shannon from the Efficiency Co and I was telling him about that as well and it's you know, something as simple as that 15-minute podcast really did change my thought on, yeah, on attracting that clients and making sure we're evolving in that. So that that is how I feel these days up with all of that really self-learning. So you know, on paper none of these look like work and that's the problem that it doesn't look like work to lots of people but they honestly have been some of the most beneficial activities I've ever invested my time in. So now you know when before I was feeling like I was bored and now I've replaced my days with the self-care, with the relationship meetups and with that podcast and all that lead generation content and learning. The business is progressing. I am progressing as an individual.
Speaker 1:The business is still calm and I still have space in my diary, but it's calm space and it's really, really proactive and it's really about building that business into something more meaningful and it's having that quiet space to actually bring that energy in. So I don't want to sound too woo-woo with it, but you know that's sort of where it's at. And so you know those that are listening that are experiencing boredom and have the what's the word I'm looking for. You know the fortunate situation of having that calmness in the business. Don't go fill it back up with hard work that you were trying to avoid in the first place. Like, really really hone down into all those good things you can now fill in your diary. That is still going to help your business.
Speaker 1:And so, like I said at the start, I know this isn't going to resonate with lots of people because and quite often you know, podcasts are more about the chaos and help me, you know, reduce the chaos, help me get calm in my business and it's like what if you have got calm? Surely there are more people out there that have got calm business. If you have a calm business, in control business and get to spend your days being bored or doing things just like I've talked about, I would absolutely love for you to send me a message, hit the fan mail on this podcast, send me a DM on socials or do a post and tag me. Do a post about this podcast and tag me in it. That'd absolutely make my day because I am sure there's more of you out there and I really look forward to hearing from you.
