Like that would never happen."},{"startTime":162.72,"endTime":167.88,"body":"In school we don't necessarily learn about "},{"startTime":162.72,"endTime":167.88,"body":"if we don't have X then what do we do. They already seem  "},{"startTime":207.42,"endTime":213.18,"body":"so long but right now I know we're seeing this "},{"startTime":207.42,"endTime":213.18,"body":"like push to get students out and into the field  "},{"startTime":214.26,"endTime":218.16,"body":"and I think that that's a hindrance to them.  "},{"startTime":214.26,"endTime":218.16,"body":"It was very obvious that they hadn't put  "},{"startTime":218.16,"endTime":223.92,"body":"their hands on a patient, they hadn't seen real "},{"startTime":218.16,"endTime":223.92,"body":"applications what they were doing and"},{"startTime":223.92,"endTime":228.66,"body":"when you have students that aren't as strong "},{"startTime":223.92,"endTime":228.66,"body":"in a clinical setting and then they  "},{"startTime":228.66,"endTime":237.66,"body":"graduate and become nurses...are "},{"startTime":228.66,"endTime":237.66,"body":"they ready? And teaching them the other gaps that  "},{"startTime":237.66,"endTime":243.42,"body":"I see are lack of and I struggled with it too is "},{"startTime":237.66,"endTime":243.42,"body":"that interdisciplinary communication. How to get  "},{"startTime":243.42,"endTime":248.16,"body":"everybody on the same page. It was such a nice feeling because I "},{"startTime":354.12,"endTime":361.02,"body":"felt like oh I'm gonna actually find out what the  "},{"startTime":361.02,"endTime":367.2,"body":"doctors want to know because their "},{"startTime":361.02,"endTime":367.2,"body":"notes are no events overnight. It's like, okay, well, when are you concerned and  "},{"startTime":373.56,"endTime":379.5,"body":"that started to bridge that gap of communication "},{"startTime":373.56,"endTime":379.5,"body":"which then ultimately led to better patient care.  "},{"startTime":381.06,"endTime":387.3,"body":"And here are my concerns and here's why I "},{"startTime":381.06,"endTime":387.3,"body":"think a lot of times we don't share the why.  "},{"startTime":388.56,"endTime":395.34,"body":"Maybe we don't feel empowered, maybe we don't "},{"startTime":388.56,"endTime":395.34,"body":"even know the why, maybe we don't know that"},{"startTime":395.34,"endTime":401.4,"body":"other person, the listener needs the why. We just "},{"startTime":395.34,"endTime":401.4,"body":"assume that they"},{"startTime":401.4,"endTime":407.34,"body":"understand what you're trying to say but I think "},{"startTime":401.4,"endTime":407.34,"body":"sharing that could be really helpful. I would  "},{"startTime":407.34,"endTime":412.26,"body":"also venture to guess that we should be "},{"startTime":407.34,"endTime":412.26,"body":"doing more of that in academia. It  "},{"startTime":412.26,"endTime":416.46,"body":"may stem from a part of that like you said, "},{"startTime":412.26,"endTime":416.46,"body":"they may not know the why because how often  "},{"startTime":416.46,"endTime":421.62,"body":"are we creating space and holding "},{"startTime":416.46,"endTime":421.62,"body":"space in our classrooms to model the thinking?  "},{"startTime":421.62,"endTime":428.34,"body":"We get so much content creep we have to cover "},{"startTime":421.62,"endTime":428.34,"body":"so much breadth of content. Are we creating space  "},{"startTime":429.42,"endTime":433.86,"body":"for us to be able to model and make "},{"startTime":429.42,"endTime":433.86,"body":"thinking visible, buff up the thinking that  "},{"startTime":433.86,"endTime":439.2,"body":"is faultier, gets folks in trouble, reinforce "},{"startTime":433.86,"endTime":439.2,"body":"the good thinking and it brings me back to  "},{"startTime":439.2,"endTime":444.0,"body":"when we, so Kate - Michelle and I have "},{"startTime":439.2,"endTime":444.0,"body":"had opportunities where we'll poll different  "},{"startTime":444.72,"endTime":448.8,"body":"educators who are in faculty development workshops "},{"startTime":444.72,"endTime":448.8,"body":"with us and one of the questions when we do it  "},{"startTime":448.8,"endTime":453.78,"body":"with Sue Forneris and one of the questions is what is not happening in your classroom?  "},{"startTime":454.86,"endTime":461.82,"body":"Because there's just so much going on and a lot "},{"startTime":454.86,"endTime":461.82,"body":"of times the themes come out as it's the space for  "},{"startTime":461.82,"endTime":467.82,"body":"thinking for reflection for and I would paraphrase "},{"startTime":461.82,"endTime":467.82,"body":"it into modeling the thinking which comes back  "},{"startTime":467.82,"endTime":472.5,"body":"to what we're talking about if we're not doing "},{"startTime":467.82,"endTime":472.5,"body":"it there then how do they know how to do it in  "},{"startTime":472.5,"endTime":478.92,"body":"context when they're in practice? What if "},{"startTime":497.52,"endTime":502.68,"body":"that didn't work, you know, you would help kind of  "},{"startTime":502.68,"endTime":508.68,"body":"create that critical thinking. I don't know if "},{"startTime":502.68,"endTime":508.68,"body":"other programs did that, but I think opened  "},{"startTime":508.68,"endTime":515.58,"body":"up that space for that thinking and for"},{"startTime":508.68,"endTime":515.58,"body":"those thoughts. Yeah, those are good conversations."},{"startTime":517.92,"endTime":523.08,"body":"I think so and I think it takes"},{"startTime":517.92,"endTime":523.08,"body":"a facilitator to ask  "},{"startTime":523.08,"endTime":528.48,"body":"those open-ended questions, to generate that "},{"startTime":523.08,"endTime":528.48,"body":"conversation to keep that moving because  "},{"startTime":528.48,"endTime":533.28,"body":"I'm familiar with those small group meetings "},{"startTime":528.48,"endTime":533.28,"body":"that you're talking about. It can be very  "},{"startTime":533.28,"endTime":539.52,"body":"easy again for educators to fall into the,"},{"startTime":533.28,"endTime":539.52,"body":"okay you've got like five assignments coming  "},{"startTime":539.52,"endTime":544.5,"body":"up. What's going on? What's happening next? "},{"startTime":539.52,"endTime":544.5,"body":"What's due when? And you can get very task focused  "},{"startTime":545.46,"endTime":554.64,"body":"and really miss the point of that opportunity "},{"startTime":545.46,"endTime":554.64,"body":"for rich dialogue and I fell  "},{"startTime":554.64,"endTime":561.18,"body":"prey to that too. But I think a lot of "},{"startTime":554.64,"endTime":561.18,"body":"students in a lot of the situations and then  "},{"startTime":561.18,"endTime":566.64,"body":"just in nursing school I mean you're "},{"startTime":561.18,"endTime":566.64,"body":"focused on a grade, you're focused on  "},{"startTime":566.64,"endTime":570.9,"body":"that paper. What did you learn? You got to see X Y and Z. Does it have to be at the "},{"startTime":714.72,"endTime":718.56,"body":"end of the day as post-conference and what  "},{"startTime":718.56,"endTime":723.48,"body":"do those conversations look like? When I had time sitting as a chair of a  "},{"startTime":723.48,"endTime":729.6,"body":"curriculum committee, it came to my attention that "},{"startTime":723.48,"endTime":729.6,"body":"students were saying, well, we were getting pulled  "},{"startTime":729.6,"endTime":733.62,"body":"off the unit an hour early so that we could do "},{"startTime":729.6,"endTime":733.62,"body":"our concept maps to our care plans. Like wait, wait.  "},{"startTime":734.76,"endTime":738.48,"body":"We need to have a shared mental model about "},{"startTime":734.76,"endTime":738.48,"body":"what is the purpose of clinical learning.
