So we want to ask  "},{"startTime":194.16,"endTime":199.86,"body":"if you would share a little bit about your roles "},{"startTime":194.16,"endTime":199.86,"body":"in your respective organization. I take a lot of students as a "},{"startTime":240.66,"endTime":247.44,"body":"clinical instructor several times a year in  "},{"startTime":247.44,"endTime":252.72,"body":"the ICU and that is just so exciting because they "},{"startTime":247.44,"endTime":252.72,"body":"bring so much energy and openness and enthusiasm  "},{"startTime":252.72,"endTime":261.72,"body":"for nursing that I get to help foster so I really "},{"startTime":252.72,"endTime":261.72,"body":"love that and yeah that's my that's what I do.  "},{"startTime":262.62,"endTime":267.72,"body":"It's wonderful Dolly and what about you Susan?"},{"startTime":262.62,"endTime":267.72,"body":"What do you want to do these days? Just listening  "},{"startTime":267.72,"endTime":272.7,"body":"to Dolly that fills my cup up because that's "},{"startTime":267.72,"endTime":272.7,"body":"where I started a long long time ago is with the  "},{"startTime":272.7,"endTime":279.9,"body":"students and I just loved it and now my my kind "},{"startTime":272.7,"endTime":279.9,"body":"of loves have braided into this wonderful role. I'm  "},{"startTime":279.9,"endTime":283.68,"body":"the associate dean for faculty development at the "},{"startTime":279.9,"endTime":283.68,"body":"University of Maryland School of Nursing. I've been  "},{"startTime":283.68,"endTime":292.8,"body":"there about 12 years and I get to teach and I get "},{"startTime":283.68,"endTime":292.8,"body":"to coach and I get to help develop others and  "},{"startTime":292.8,"endTime":298.38,"body":"that's just a dream come true. I mean, it's "},{"startTime":292.8,"endTime":298.38,"body":"the first time that position's been made available  "},{"startTime":298.38,"endTime":302.82,"body":"at the school so I'm really lucky to be in the "},{"startTime":298.38,"endTime":302.82,"body":"right place the right time, which is a big secret  "},{"startTime":302.82,"endTime":309.78,"body":"to my career I think too, but what fills my cup is "},{"startTime":302.82,"endTime":309.78,"body":"is exactly that just seeing faculty kind of set a  "},{"startTime":309.78,"endTime":314.58,"body":"goal figure out how to get there meet that goal "},{"startTime":309.78,"endTime":314.58,"body":"and to be able to help them do that facilitate  "},{"startTime":314.58,"endTime":320.64,"body":"that growth, is just, is just thrilling so I "},{"startTime":314.58,"endTime":320.64,"body":"feel very lucky to be able to do that every day.  "},{"startTime":322.02,"endTime":331.32,"body":"Awesome and I'm just excited about your role "},{"startTime":322.02,"endTime":331.32,"body":"at the University of Maryland School of Nursing  "},{"startTime":331.32,"endTime":337.92,"body":"because I know you've been doing aspects of that "},{"startTime":331.32,"endTime":337.92,"body":"role informally for many years for all of us and  "},{"startTime":337.92,"endTime":343.68,"body":"we spoke about that with you, Rachel and I last "},{"startTime":337.92,"endTime":343.68,"body":"time we met. Just those hallway conversations:  "},{"startTime":343.68,"endTime":350.7,"body":"the coaching, the the guidance, the mentorship "},{"startTime":343.68,"endTime":350.7,"body":"that you provide many people at the school of  "},{"startTime":350.7,"endTime":358.32,"body":"nursing and beyond. I know that including Dolly "},{"startTime":350.7,"endTime":358.32,"body":"obviously following in your footsteps so I  "},{"startTime":358.32,"endTime":363.12,"body":"just it's wonderful that you can formalize "},{"startTime":358.32,"endTime":363.12,"body":"that role a bit and especially you being the  "},{"startTime":363.12,"endTime":368.4,"body":"first person that you get to really help shape "},{"startTime":363.12,"endTime":368.4,"body":"it and I think that's exciting and I remember  "},{"startTime":369.48,"endTime":376.68,"body":"one of my first formal roles in a teaching was "},{"startTime":369.48,"endTime":376.68,"body":"with you in the new grad residency program much  "},{"startTime":376.68,"endTime":383.28,"body":"like when I was kind of in that transition"},{"startTime":376.68,"endTime":383.28,"body":"professionally just like Dolly is you know moving  "},{"startTime":383.28,"endTime":389.94,"body":"from bedside more into teaching but still at the "},{"startTime":383.28,"endTime":389.94,"body":"bedside and I was able to have that inaugural  "},{"startTime":389.94,"endTime":399.42,"body":"role as a clinical coach and you helped shape that "},{"startTime":389.94,"endTime":399.42,"body":"and shape me in being able to define that role and  "},{"startTime":399.42,"endTime":405.9,"body":"it was very exciting. Oh that's wonderful and in "},{"startTime":399.42,"endTime":405.9,"body":"that vein and this may come up again later but"},{"startTime":406.8,"endTime":413.7,"body":"a wonderful mentor, Dr. Trish Morton, helped me "},{"startTime":406.8,"endTime":413.7,"body":"many years ago help us find she calls finding  "},{"startTime":413.7,"endTime":419.34,"body":"it finding your X. And she just continues to say, "},{"startTime":413.7,"endTime":419.34,"body":"what do you want to do, what do you want to do, but  "},{"startTime":419.34,"endTime":424.74,"body":"you know think more, think more and what do you "},{"startTime":419.34,"endTime":424.74,"body":"want to be the best at in this school?Where the  "},{"startTime":424.74,"endTime":430.02,"body":"city or the state or the world? What's your "},{"startTime":424.74,"endTime":430.02,"body":"X? And trying to figure out what the X is and  "},{"startTime":430.02,"endTime":435.0,"body":"then moving toward it is super exciting and "},{"startTime":430.02,"endTime":435.0,"body":"I maybe that was the beginning of your  "},{"startTime":435.0,"endTime":442.26,"body":"pathway to your X Michelle because it's "},{"startTime":435.0,"endTime":442.26,"body":"worked out well. It really is. It really was and  "},{"startTime":443.28,"endTime":446.46,"body":"but when you say X it makes me "},{"startTime":443.28,"endTime":446.46,"body":"think of algebra and then I start to  "},{"startTime":446.46,"endTime":454.32,"body":"sweat, now I've got to do like algebraic "},{"startTime":446.46,"endTime":454.32,"body":"equation and I get a little uncomfy."},{"startTime":454.32,"endTime":461.52,"body":"Well can you share with us a little bit "},{"startTime":454.32,"endTime":461.52,"body":"about how you might be partnering? What  "},{"startTime":461.52,"endTime":465.9,"body":"are some things that you the two "},{"startTime":461.52,"endTime":465.9,"body":"of you because I've heard, you know  "},{"startTime":465.9,"endTime":470.46,"body":"little things here and there that you do "},{"startTime":465.9,"endTime":470.46,"body":"together so how might you be reaching out?"},{"startTime":472.68,"endTime":479.1,"body":"I think a lot of what we do is kind of an informal "},{"startTime":472.68,"endTime":479.1,"body":"partnership, testing the waters with each other and  "},{"startTime":479.1,"endTime":485.94,"body":"just talking about nursing and what we're doing "},{"startTime":479.1,"endTime":485.94,"body":"and what's next, what's on the horizon but I  "},{"startTime":485.94,"endTime":491.7,"body":"think more formally, my mom actually helps "},{"startTime":485.94,"endTime":491.7,"body":"kind of guide me through the process of  "},{"startTime":491.7,"endTime":496.8,"body":"giving a presentation at a regional conference "},{"startTime":491.7,"endTime":496.8,"body":"a few years ago. That was really exciting. "},{"startTime":498.36,"endTime":505.2,"body":"I do I think most of what we do is "},{"startTime":498.36,"endTime":505.2,"body":"informal but it's been really fun to do things  "},{"startTime":505.2,"endTime":512.4,"body":"here and there like you said. Yeah. I talk a lot and "},{"startTime":505.2,"endTime":512.4,"body":"Dolly and I love that we can start in the middle  "},{"startTime":512.4,"endTime":516.42,"body":"of a story right we don't have to give all the "},{"startTime":512.4,"endTime":516.42,"body":"background to a nursing story. We can just call  "},{"startTime":516.42,"endTime":521.04,"body":"each other and say guess what happened today and "},{"startTime":516.42,"endTime":521.04,"body":"we can start in the middle and we understand and  "},{"startTime":521.04,"endTime":527.1,"body":"it's just it's a beautiful thing at least from "},{"startTime":521.04,"endTime":527.1,"body":"my perspective but that wasn't helping me for  "},{"startTime":527.1,"endTime":534.84,"body":"since she was probably five or six listening to "},{"startTime":527.1,"endTime":534.84,"body":"hundreds if not millions of PowerPoints and ideas  "},{"startTime":534.84,"endTime":540.6,"body":"and things and giving me phenomenal feedback. "},{"startTime":534.84,"endTime":540.6,"body":"You know, too deep, too superficial, I'm lost.  "},{"startTime":541.86,"endTime":549.9,"body":"So what those kinds of very honest and helpful "},{"startTime":541.86,"endTime":549.9,"body":"feedback so um I take that all into consideration  "},{"startTime":549.9,"endTime":555.84,"body":"to make what I'm doing more relevant and so Dolly "},{"startTime":549.9,"endTime":555.84,"body":"thank you for that. Yeah, hopefully in my teen  "},{"startTime":555.84,"endTime":562.62,"body":"years I wasn't too mean about it but That's "},{"startTime":555.84,"endTime":562.62,"body":"what we call context, Doll, that's the context.  "},{"startTime":564.36,"endTime":571.26,"body":"Generationally too I know I'm raising some "},{"startTime":564.36,"endTime":571.26,"body":"Gen Z's at home and they give some really good  "},{"startTime":571.8,"endTime":578.22,"body":"generationally relevant feedback, we'll just call "},{"startTime":571.8,"endTime":578.22,"body":"it that. It's good. It keeps me keeps me smart, keeps  "},{"startTime":578.22,"endTime":583.86,"body":"me fresh. Yeah, I call it data mining, right, I'm "},{"startTime":578.22,"endTime":583.86,"body":"just data mining as I'm listening to Dolly and  "},{"startTime":583.86,"endTime":590.46,"body":"her friends. It's super helpful so you know when "},{"startTime":583.86,"endTime":590.46,"body":"I when I'm sitting here and I'm listening to  "},{"startTime":590.46,"endTime":596.28,"body":"you Dolly and Susan what I think is so special about "},{"startTime":590.46,"endTime":596.28,"body":"this not only is this the generational and the mom  "},{"startTime":596.28,"endTime":602.22,"body":"and the daughter but also it speaks the important "},{"startTime":596.28,"endTime":602.22,"body":"I think ingredient of mentorship which is trust  "},{"startTime":603.66,"endTime":610.38,"body":"and rapport. We talk a lot about mentorship "},{"startTime":603.66,"endTime":610.38,"body":"and nursing education and nursing practice whether  "},{"startTime":610.38,"endTime":616.74,"body":"which side of the bridge we're on and as much "},{"startTime":610.38,"endTime":616.74,"body":"as we talk about it I still think we have a lot  "},{"startTime":616.74,"endTime":625.38,"body":"of growth to do it well. Not everybody gets "},{"startTime":616.74,"endTime":625.38,"body":"the benefit of having this close human to shepherd  "},{"startTime":625.38,"endTime":629.82,"body":"them through the process whether they're on "},{"startTime":625.38,"endTime":629.82,"body":"the academic or the practice side or trying  "},{"startTime":629.82,"endTime":637.02,"body":"to bridge them and yet we should all have. I "},{"startTime":629.82,"endTime":637.02,"body":"shouldn't say should - Michelle is on a great path  "},{"startTime":637.02,"endTime":644.16,"body":"of me to eliminate the word should for my "},{"startTime":637.02,"endTime":644.16,"body":"vocabulary. Lecture and should are now on this  "},{"startTime":644.16,"endTime":651.84,"body":"list of eliminating that from my vocabulary. "},{"startTime":644.16,"endTime":651.84,"body":"Everyone needs someone..."},{"startTime":651.84,"endTime":656.28,"body":"a close trusted human to shepherd them and many of "},{"startTime":651.84,"endTime":656.28,"body":"them right because we can't be all things to all  "},{"startTime":656.28,"endTime":662.58,"body":"people. So I'm curious from your experience "},{"startTime":656.28,"endTime":662.58,"body":"with each other what nods can we take from  "},{"startTime":662.58,"endTime":668.82,"body":"what you all have learned about this "},{"startTime":662.58,"endTime":668.82,"body":"trust in the rapport that we could bring to  "},{"startTime":668.82,"endTime":674.16,"body":"our professional mentoring or relationships "},{"startTime":668.82,"endTime":674.16,"body":"where it's not between generations of a  "},{"startTime":674.16,"endTime":681.24,"body":"family member or close trusted human. That is a "},{"startTime":674.16,"endTime":681.24,"body":"really long thought. How's that land on you?"},{"startTime":685.38,"endTime":691.38,"body":"Go ahead, Mom. Yeah, it's vital. Trust... "},{"startTime":685.38,"endTime":691.38,"body":"trust is everything, right? We can't grow  "},{"startTime":691.38,"endTime":698.64,"body":"if we can't trust the situation that we're in and "},{"startTime":691.38,"endTime":698.64,"body":"Rachel I think you're a thousand percent right.  "},{"startTime":699.66,"endTime":706.44,"body":"I try to...I'll use Dolly as an example. I try "},{"startTime":699.66,"endTime":706.44,"body":"to help her learn by I call the wisdom of my  "},{"startTime":706.44,"endTime":713.46,"body":"mistakes, right? But it's not about me. It's about "},{"startTime":706.44,"endTime":713.46,"body":"Dolly or whoever I'm working with so helping  "},{"startTime":713.46,"endTime":720.12,"body":"them understand that conversations will come "},{"startTime":713.46,"endTime":720.12,"body":"up or I might not agree with your idea or you  "},{"startTime":720.12,"endTime":725.94,"body":"might have to change course a little bit."},{"startTime":720.12,"endTime":725.94,"body":"It's only because of respect and trust  "},{"startTime":725.94,"endTime":732.12,"body":"and I can't...I cannot emphasize those enough. "},{"startTime":725.94,"endTime":732.12,"body":"It's not about competition. It's not about  "},{"startTime":733.56,"endTime":738.96,"body":"learning the hard way. It's just about trust "},{"startTime":733.56,"endTime":738.96,"body":"and respect.  do think that might get  "},{"startTime":738.96,"endTime":744.54,"body":"lost sometimes because academia is a competitive "},{"startTime":738.96,"endTime":744.54,"body":"place and practice is too and time is short and  "},{"startTime":744.54,"endTime":751.8,"body":"emotions are high. But it has to come back "},{"startTime":744.54,"endTime":751.8,"body":"to that. I like what you're saying Susan too about  "},{"startTime":751.8,"endTime":757.26,"body":"making sure it's really about and you know when "},{"startTime":751.8,"endTime":757.26,"body":"you're describing your relationship with Dolly  "},{"startTime":757.26,"endTime":765.18,"body":"it's about Dolly. Her needs, where she is "},{"startTime":757.26,"endTime":765.18,"body":"right now, while you might be drawing from your  "},{"startTime":765.18,"endTime":771.06,"body":"experiences, it still needs to apply to the person "},{"startTime":765.18,"endTime":771.06,"body":"that you're mentoring or talking to. It has to be  "},{"startTime":771.06,"endTime":776.88,"body":"relevant for them. You can't just say, well, I would "},{"startTime":771.06,"endTime":776.88,"body":"do this or you should, that dirty word you should  "},{"startTime":776.88,"endTime":784.14,"body":"do this but like just meeting people where "},{"startTime":776.88,"endTime":784.14,"body":"they are I think is helpful and important.  "},{"startTime":785.34,"endTime":791.7,"body":"Dolly, 'm curious to hear your perspective on... "},{"startTime":785.34,"endTime":791.7,"body":"I have also been on the receiving end of your  "},{"startTime":791.7,"endTime":798.36,"body":"mom's mentorship and it has been career "},{"startTime":791.7,"endTime":798.36,"body":"shaping and and transformational for me so  "},{"startTime":798.36,"endTime":803.7,"body":"I'm curious. I can only imagine the mentorship "},{"startTime":798.36,"endTime":803.7,"body":"experience you've had with her and I'm curious  "},{"startTime":803.7,"endTime":809.4,"body":"to hear from you what have you taken from that "},{"startTime":803.7,"endTime":809.4,"body":"and how are you applying that to the mentoring  "},{"startTime":809.4,"endTime":819.9,"body":"relationships that you're trying to create in your "},{"startTime":809.4,"endTime":819.9,"body":"spaces. Yeah, lucky me. I agree, lucky you, lucky me.  "},{"startTime":820.74,"endTime":828.72,"body":"I think her advice and guidance has "},{"startTime":820.74,"endTime":828.72,"body":"been invaluable in every aspect of my life but  "},{"startTime":828.72,"endTime":834.3,"body":"particularly professionally. She's been able to "},{"startTime":828.72,"endTime":834.3,"body":"introduce me to so many people doing incredible  "},{"startTime":834.3,"endTime":841.56,"body":"work, which I think is invaluable always and "},{"startTime":834.3,"endTime":841.56,"body":"then beyond that, I mean, I am not a particularly  "},{"startTime":841.56,"endTime":849.48,"body":"decisive person as she can attest, so finding my "},{"startTime":841.56,"endTime":849.48,"body":"X has looked a little bit like finding my pqrst  "},{"startTime":849.48,"endTime":858.84,"body":"you know and on and on. Having that having "},{"startTime":849.48,"endTime":858.84,"body":"someone who really knows your field and is able to  "},{"startTime":859.62,"endTime":866.64,"body":"give you the freedom and knowledge to explore "},{"startTime":859.62,"endTime":866.64,"body":"everything for me from public policy to academia  "},{"startTime":866.64,"endTime":876.0,"body":"to bedside to you know all of those things has "},{"startTime":866.64,"endTime":876.0,"body":"been great. And then for my own mentorship and  "},{"startTime":876.0,"endTime":882.18,"body":"mentoring others, which I'm finally transitioning "},{"startTime":876.0,"endTime":882.18,"body":"into a little bit, has been exciting.  "},{"startTime":882.18,"endTime":888.12,"body":"I've been part of a couple professional mentorship "},{"startTime":882.18,"endTime":888.12,"body":"programs and they kind of fizzle out a little bit.  "},{"startTime":889.26,"endTime":895.44,"body":"I think that what you said Dr. Onello is "},{"startTime":889.26,"endTime":895.44,"body":"is totally true.
