So you know when you and  "},{"startTime":146.88,"endTime":153.24,"body":"I put our heads together about what we wanted to "},{"startTime":146.88,"endTime":153.24,"body":"talk about, we really wanted to highlight some  "},{"startTime":153.24,"endTime":161.22,"body":"of the key takeaways from the NLN Institute for "},{"startTime":153.24,"endTime":161.22,"body":"Leadership we most recently had a retreat with  "},{"startTime":161.22,"endTime":170.4,"body":"our 2023 cohort of LEAD participants and also "},{"startTime":161.22,"endTime":170.4,"body":"the Sim Leadership program participants and it  "},{"startTime":170.4,"endTime":177.48,"body":"was really a collective group and we just wanted "},{"startTime":170.4,"endTime":177.48,"body":"to, I think both of us in our conversations felt  "},{"startTime":177.48,"endTime":183.84,"body":"inspired we walked away feeling energized from "},{"startTime":177.48,"endTime":183.84,"body":"our keynote speakers that came to share their  "},{"startTime":183.84,"endTime":192.12,"body":"expertise with us. I thought today we could talk "},{"startTime":183.84,"endTime":192.12,"body":"about maybe four themes. We had four speakers and  "},{"startTime":192.12,"endTime":199.68,"body":"each had a theme.I think that they brought to "},{"startTime":192.12,"endTime":199.68,"body":"the table and I do hope in future episodes  "},{"startTime":199.68,"endTime":208.26,"body":"we can invite many of these keynote speakers "},{"startTime":199.68,"endTime":208.26,"body":"as guests and we can dig into their stories and  "},{"startTime":208.26,"endTime":215.76,"body":"their expertise a little bit on a deeper level. Today I was hoping just to talk about some  "},{"startTime":215.76,"endTime":220.62,"body":"bigger themes and sort of what resonated with "},{"startTime":215.76,"endTime":220.62,"body":"us with you and I Sabrina. So how does that sound? "},{"startTime":221.34,"endTime":226.2,"body":"That sounds great, yeah really looking "},{"startTime":221.34,"endTime":226.2,"body":"forward to it. I too walked away with a lot of  "},{"startTime":227.1,"endTime":234.48,"body":"knowledge as well as kind of affirmation for "},{"startTime":227.1,"endTime":234.48,"body":"leadership, you know, my own journey and where  "},{"startTime":234.48,"endTime":241.38,"body":"I needed help and and how at going through and "},{"startTime":234.48,"endTime":241.38,"body":"just listening to all of these speakers just how  "},{"startTime":241.38,"endTime":249.24,"body":"I can even enhance my own leadership so it was "},{"startTime":241.38,"endTime":249.24,"body":"a great experience the retreat was inspirational  "},{"startTime":249.24,"endTime":257.16,"body":"I think for everybody who attended. Exactly and "},{"startTime":249.24,"endTime":257.16,"body":"I think it's even fun for us, because we were there co-facilitating in many regards but"},{"startTime":259.38,"endTime":264.3,"body":"when we were in the presence of these keynote "},{"startTime":259.38,"endTime":264.3,"body":"speakers, I think we quickly became  "},{"startTime":264.3,"endTime":269.28,"body":"the student too, right? Like we felt like we  were participants equally because we got  "},{"startTime":269.28,"endTime":275.4,"body":"to, we I think benefited just as much as the "},{"startTime":269.28,"endTime":275.4,"body":"participants did in many regards maybe in a  "},{"startTime":275.4,"endTime":281.7,"body":"different capacity because we were listening "},{"startTime":275.4,"endTime":281.7,"body":"from a different lens but I think it was it  "},{"startTime":281.7,"endTime":287.46,"body":"was fun to sit back and receive as well as to "},{"startTime":281.7,"endTime":287.46,"body":"give during that retreat. Absolutely, absolutely.  "},{"startTime":288.54,"endTime":294.0,"body":"So the four leadership themes that I thought "},{"startTime":288.54,"endTime":294.0,"body":"we could highlight today would be  creativity,  "},{"startTime":294.0,"endTime":303.6,"body":"connection, strategy, and advocacy. So I think these "},{"startTime":294.0,"endTime":303.6,"body":"four themes resonate through much of our work as  "},{"startTime":303.6,"endTime":310.92,"body":"nurse educators but we also know as as nurse "},{"startTime":303.6,"endTime":310.92,"body":"educators we lead where we are. We often have  "},{"startTime":310.92,"endTime":316.86,"body":"to rise to the occasion of leadership sometimes "},{"startTime":310.92,"endTime":316.86,"body":"in an informal way, sometimes in a formal capacity,  "},{"startTime":318.06,"endTime":326.04,"body":"but in I think no matter how you look at it, on "},{"startTime":318.06,"endTime":326.04,"body":"any given day, we have to function as leaders at  "},{"startTime":326.04,"endTime":333.36,"body":"some point. I just think that's the complexity "},{"startTime":326.04,"endTime":333.36,"body":"and the probably the privilege of our work. I  "},{"startTime":333.36,"endTime":337.8,"body":"think just being a nurse educator we're stepping "},{"startTime":333.36,"endTime":337.8,"body":"into...you're saying yes to leadership. Would you  "},{"startTime":337.8,"endTime":344.34,"body":"agree? I would. What are your thoughts? Yeah. Yeah, I "},{"startTime":337.8,"endTime":344.34,"body":"totally agree and I think that you know we often  "},{"startTime":344.34,"endTime":350.58,"body":"think about leadership as being on this pedestal "},{"startTime":344.34,"endTime":350.58,"body":"and that people will kind of climb a ladder to  "},{"startTime":350.58,"endTime":356.16,"body":"get up there, but we lead from where we are, where "},{"startTime":350.58,"endTime":356.16,"body":"we stand. And I think we have to remember that and  "},{"startTime":356.16,"endTime":362.52,"body":"then we have goals in mind for where we want to "},{"startTime":356.16,"endTime":362.52,"body":"go and and what we can learn from others who have  "},{"startTime":362.52,"endTime":367.74,"body":"gone before us in leadership and I think the four "},{"startTime":362.52,"endTime":367.74,"body":"themes that we're going to talk about you need to  "},{"startTime":367.74,"endTime":375.0,"body":"be definitely you need to be creative you know in  your approach or just as you as an individual  "},{"startTime":375.0,"endTime":380.34,"body":"making decisions as a leader. You need creativity "},{"startTime":375.0,"endTime":380.34,"body":"in order to do that and to work with your teams.  "},{"startTime":381.12,"endTime":386.52,"body":"You know, connection clearly is really important "},{"startTime":381.12,"endTime":386.52,"body":"because you can't work as a leader in isolation  "},{"startTime":386.52,"endTime":391.98,"body":"because then you wouldn't be a leader, you'd "},{"startTime":386.52,"endTime":391.98,"body":"be a lone person. So I think themes that we  "},{"startTime":391.98,"endTime":396.0,"body":"have selected - strategy is always important. "},{"startTime":391.98,"endTime":396.0,"body":"You know, you need to know where you're going  "},{"startTime":396.66,"endTime":400.26,"body":"and then of course the whole budget "},{"startTime":396.66,"endTime":400.26,"body":"side for advocating for yourself or  "},{"startTime":402.0,"endTime":408.72,"body":"budget purposes, expenditures, you know, is is really "},{"startTime":402.0,"endTime":408.72,"body":"key in many of the things that we do because  "},{"startTime":408.72,"endTime":416.76,"body":"we need to be able to advocate for items that we "},{"startTime":408.72,"endTime":416.76,"body":"need. Excellent and I also would add that I think  "},{"startTime":417.9,"endTime":423.0,"body":"you know I think as a nurse educator we're "},{"startTime":417.9,"endTime":423.0,"body":"coming into this role being nurses first and  "},{"startTime":423.0,"endTime":427.5,"body":"foremost, right? I think that's what brings us "},{"startTime":423.0,"endTime":427.5,"body":"here is being nurses and that being a nurse  "},{"startTime":427.5,"endTime":433.26,"body":"can be challenging in many regards and very "},{"startTime":427.5,"endTime":433.26,"body":"rewarding but I know we often talk about the  "},{"startTime":433.26,"endTime":438.72,"body":"challenges because we're trying to help teach "},{"startTime":433.26,"endTime":438.72,"body":"the next generation of learners to navigate  "},{"startTime":438.72,"endTime":444.84,"body":"the challenging environment in which they enter. "},{"startTime":438.72,"endTime":444.84,"body":"I think being a teacher has its challenges and  "},{"startTime":445.8,"endTime":450.96,"body":"and again its rewards with "},{"startTime":445.8,"endTime":450.96,"body":"regard to really being able to give back  "},{"startTime":450.96,"endTime":456.48,"body":"to our communities in which we're serving our "},{"startTime":450.96,"endTime":456.48,"body":"learners. But I think with that comes a lot of  "},{"startTime":456.48,"endTime":462.42,"body":"daily challenges that we try to navigate "},{"startTime":456.48,"endTime":462.42,"body":"and then you add on this a third layer.  "},{"startTime":462.42,"endTime":467.46,"body":"It's like this cake of professional "},{"startTime":462.42,"endTime":467.46,"body":"work that we do which is leadership.  "},{"startTime":468.78,"endTime":473.04,"body":"And I think, when we think of ourselves as "},{"startTime":468.78,"endTime":473.04,"body":"leaders, when we step into that role whether  "},{"startTime":473.04,"endTime":479.94,"body":"again, informally or formally, we can find ourselves "},{"startTime":473.04,"endTime":479.94,"body":"in some tough situations. I think sometimes it can  "},{"startTime":479.94,"endTime":486.78,"body":"be challenging and we can feel stretched "},{"startTime":479.94,"endTime":486.78,"body":"beyond what we feel comfortable. I think we  "},{"startTime":486.78,"endTime":494.16,"body":"can feel a little strained maybe because of some "},{"startTime":486.78,"endTime":494.16,"body":"limitations in our role or in our circumstances.  "},{"startTime":495.42,"endTime":502.2,"body":"I want to talk a little bit about "},{"startTime":495.42,"endTime":502.2,"body":"how these four themes and how these four expert  "},{"startTime":502.2,"endTime":508.74,"body":"leaders, what they came and brought to us at the "},{"startTime":502.2,"endTime":508.74,"body":"retreat, how the inspiration...where can we go for  "},{"startTime":508.74,"endTime":513.24,"body":"inspiration, where can we go for mentorship, "},{"startTime":508.74,"endTime":513.24,"body":"where can we go for support. When we find  "},{"startTime":513.24,"endTime":520.68,"body":"that our our work and our day has become a little "},{"startTime":513.24,"endTime":520.68,"body":"challenged because I think when we get challenged  "},{"startTime":521.28,"endTime":525.9,"body":"I think it's our human nature to like seek "},{"startTime":521.28,"endTime":525.9,"body":"comfort like that's what I do. I'm like, wait,  "},{"startTime":525.9,"endTime":531.12,"body":"no, no, I don't, I didn't sign up for this. I don't "},{"startTime":525.9,"endTime":531.12,"body":"like being here. I don't like being uncertain. It's  "},{"startTime":531.12,"endTime":536.1,"body":"uncomfortable and get me out of here. And that's "},{"startTime":531.12,"endTime":536.1,"body":"what I do...I kind of just panic a little bit.  "},{"startTime":537.24,"endTime":544.2,"body":"But I think the inspiration that these keynote "},{"startTime":537.24,"endTime":544.2,"body":"speakers shared with us is that we can we can  "},{"startTime":544.2,"endTime":552.12,"body":"lean into this a little bit the challenge right. "},{"startTime":544.2,"endTime":552.12,"body":"Right. Right. So I have a quote, Nelson Mandela,  "},{"startTime":552.12,"endTime":557.76,"body":"it's his quote and he said that that we shouldn't "},{"startTime":552.12,"endTime":557.76,"body":"be judged by our successes that we should be  "},{"startTime":557.76,"endTime":563.46,"body":"judged by how many times we fell down and how "},{"startTime":557.76,"endTime":563.46,"body":"many times we got up so I think that's kind of  "},{"startTime":563.46,"endTime":568.32,"body":"leaning into what we're going to talk about "},{"startTime":563.46,"endTime":568.32,"body":"today, is just that, you know, how do you get up?  "},{"startTime":568.32,"endTime":574.5,"body":"Right, when things get a little bit difficult or "},{"startTime":568.32,"endTime":574.5,"body":"maybe you are in a new role and you're not 100%  "},{"startTime":574.5,"endTime":583.2,"body":"sure how to manage or or to traverse that  new role that that you've been given and  "},{"startTime":583.2,"endTime":589.92,"body":"where do you go and what kind of inspiration "},{"startTime":583.2,"endTime":589.92,"body":"can you gather from today as well as  "},{"startTime":590.58,"endTime":593.4,"body":"from those speakers who will "},{"startTime":590.58,"endTime":593.4,"body":"come in further in this series.  "},{"startTime":594.84,"endTime":602.82,"body":"That's great and by all measures and by Nelson "},{"startTime":594.84,"endTime":602.82,"body":"Mandela's words of wisdom I get I think I get an A."},{"startTime":602.82,"endTime":610.92,"body":"Many times as I've fallen down you know "},{"startTime":602.82,"endTime":610.92,"body":"gotten back up right there is that  "},{"startTime":610.92,"endTime":615.96,"body":"good side of it too, so I thank "},{"startTime":610.92,"endTime":615.96,"body":"you for sharing that. It's a"},{"startTime":617.1,"endTime":624.54,"body":"perfect segue and foundation for what we want to "},{"startTime":617.1,"endTime":624.54,"body":"talk about today. Our first theme I thought we'd  "},{"startTime":624.54,"endTime":631.5,"body":"start with creativity and Dr. Sarah Szanton who "},{"startTime":624.54,"endTime":631.5,"body":"is the dean at Johns Hopkins School of Nursing  "},{"startTime":631.5,"endTime":637.56,"body":"in Baltimore, Maryland. She came and talked to us "},{"startTime":631.5,"endTime":637.56,"body":"about really finding creativity and leadership,  "},{"startTime":637.56,"endTime":646.56,"body":"which I thought it was very refreshing to hear "},{"startTime":637.56,"endTime":646.56,"body":"and very hopeful to hear that there is ways that  "},{"startTime":646.56,"endTime":652.08,"body":"we can navigate the challenges in leadership and "},{"startTime":646.56,"endTime":652.08,"body":"sometimes the isolation we feel in leadership. We  "},{"startTime":652.08,"endTime":659.28,"body":"can really be inspired to find help and support "},{"startTime":652.08,"endTime":659.28,"body":"in a creative way that we just don't often think  "},{"startTime":659.28,"endTime":664.44,"body":"about and we can only get these ideas and this "},{"startTime":659.28,"endTime":664.44,"body":"creativity from I think other people sometimes.  "},{"startTime":664.44,"endTime":670.74,"body":"It comes from within us. We might be trying "},{"startTime":664.44,"endTime":670.74,"body":"to navigate a problem and have like an idea  "},{"startTime":670.74,"endTime":675.9,"body":"like, oh okay I'll give that a try, but I think a "},{"startTime":670.74,"endTime":675.9,"body":"lot of times these ideas or how to push through  "},{"startTime":675.9,"endTime":683.16,"body":"tough times in leadership come from other people.  I think sometimes in our professional work  "},{"startTime":684.06,"endTime":690.12,"body":"the other the people closest to us in our "},{"startTime":684.06,"endTime":690.12,"body":"professional circles aren't always able to  "},{"startTime":690.12,"endTime":696.78,"body":"give us that energizing renewal we need when "},{"startTime":690.12,"endTime":696.78,"body":"times are tough because it's probably tough  "},{"startTime":696.78,"endTime":703.62,"body":"for them too, like we're in this little bucket of "},{"startTime":696.78,"endTime":703.62,"body":"toughness. I thought what was inspiring about  "},{"startTime":703.62,"endTime":709.62,"body":"what Dr. Szanton shared was that she said that "},{"startTime":703.62,"endTime":709.62,"body":"she really has learned to incorporate her family  "},{"startTime":710.82,"endTime":716.94,"body":"and her close personal circles and blur "},{"startTime":710.82,"endTime":716.94,"body":"the lines a little bit with like family and  "},{"startTime":717.78,"endTime":724.62,"body":"your personal circles with professional our "},{"startTime":717.78,"endTime":724.62,"body":"professional work. The one example she gave was  "},{"startTime":725.16,"endTime":732.54,"body":"how she might include, like if you have children, "},{"startTime":725.16,"endTime":732.54,"body":"she might you know include her child in helping  "},{"startTime":732.54,"endTime":739.26,"body":"cheer her on to recruit a certain number of "},{"startTime":732.54,"endTime":739.26,"body":"participants for a research study.  "},{"startTime":739.26,"endTime":744.42,"body":"The research study is your professional world and "},{"startTime":739.26,"endTime":744.42,"body":"you're just grinding away trying to get recruits  "},{"startTime":744.42,"endTime":751.02,"body":"and participants to meet this goal, right?"},{"startTime":744.42,"endTime":751.02,"body":"It can feel rigorous and frustrating and hard but  "},{"startTime":751.02,"endTime":757.38,"body":"yet if you turn to your family and like a child "},{"startTime":751.02,"endTime":757.38,"body":"especially and they're cheering you on at home.  "},{"startTime":757.38,"endTime":763.38,"body":"You've got this...what "},{"startTime":757.38,"endTime":763.38,"body":"did they use like a little thermometer gauge  "},{"startTime":764.28,"endTime":771.12,"body":"and you've got...you're incorporating your "},{"startTime":764.28,"endTime":771.12,"body":"this child, who has a very natural propensity  "},{"startTime":771.12,"endTime":777.66,"body":"for I think playing and fun, and they can make this "},{"startTime":771.12,"endTime":777.66,"body":"feel more fun for you as a professional and then I  "},{"startTime":777.66,"endTime":783.6,"body":"think that shines the light into our professional "},{"startTime":777.66,"endTime":783.6,"body":"world and then that light gets reciprocated back  "},{"startTime":783.6,"endTime":789.12,"body":"home too. I never thought of blurring the lines "},{"startTime":783.6,"endTime":789.12,"body":"like that. I always thought we had to keep them  "},{"startTime":789.12,"endTime":794.82,"body":"like super separate in order to keep it healthy. "},{"startTime":789.12,"endTime":794.82,"body":"But I was inspired by Dr. Szanton and that maybe  "},{"startTime":794.82,"endTime":800.46,"body":"that's not the case, I mean what are your "},{"startTime":794.82,"endTime":800.46,"body":"thoughts about that? Yeah, you know I..."},{"startTime":800.46,"endTime":807.78,"body":"I just reverted back in my memory just "},{"startTime":800.46,"endTime":807.78,"body":"thinking about when I was a clinical instructor  "},{"startTime":807.78,"endTime":813.24,"body":"and I had all this paperwork that I had to do "},{"startTime":807.78,"endTime":813.24,"body":"after the clinical experience and looking at  "},{"startTime":813.24,"endTime":818.94,"body":"their care plans and and going through and making "},{"startTime":813.24,"endTime":818.94,"body":"comments and I can remember coming home and having  "},{"startTime":818.94,"endTime":824.4,"body":"these stacks of paper that I needed to go through "},{"startTime":818.94,"endTime":824.4,"body":"and my son would be doing his homework at the  "},{"startTime":824.4,"endTime":829.8,"body":"same time so I would do my paperwork while he was "},{"startTime":824.4,"endTime":829.8,"body":"doing his homework and we would kind of share back  "},{"startTime":829.8,"endTime":834.84,"body":"and forth what we were doing. So I do think that "},{"startTime":829.8,"endTime":834.84,"body":"that's important because it helps to make it more  "},{"startTime":834.84,"endTime":839.4,"body":"fun and you're actually doing something "},{"startTime":834.84,"endTime":839.4,"body":"together while you're doing separate work.  "},{"startTime":839.4,"endTime":843.72,"body":"They can understand a little bit more about your "},{"startTime":839.4,"endTime":843.72,"body":"world and you can understand theirs as well.   "},{"startTime":844.44,"endTime":849.6,"body":"I did appreciate that when she talked about "},{"startTime":844.44,"endTime":849.6,"body":"how important it is to try and maybe just have...  "},{"startTime":849.6,"endTime":855.54,"body":"you be a little more creative in how you work. Try and strive for that work-life balance."},{"startTime":856.44,"endTime":863.04,"body":"Yeah and I think it's about being creative "},{"startTime":856.44,"endTime":863.04,"body":"or a little maybe open about setting our  "},{"startTime":863.04,"endTime":867.96,"body":"expectations and like framing our thoughts "},{"startTime":863.04,"endTime":867.96,"body":"around it. It was a good reframe for me that  "},{"startTime":867.96,"endTime":873.36,"body":"you know, I worry sometimes because I do "},{"startTime":867.96,"endTime":873.36,"body":"work hard and I worry sometimes that I'm  "},{"startTime":873.36,"endTime":879.24,"body":"sending a message to my family that work is hard "},{"startTime":873.36,"endTime":879.24,"body":"because I come home with like a scowl on my face.  "},{"startTime":880.26,"endTime":887.16,"body":"I'm like, maybe sharing something "},{"startTime":880.26,"endTime":887.16,"body":"frustrating or just have like tension, right?  "},{"startTime":887.16,"endTime":891.96,"body":"Kids especially are very sensitive to "},{"startTime":887.16,"endTime":891.96,"body":"that. That's right. She said,  "},{"startTime":983.28,"endTime":989.04,"body":"\"It's attitude.\" That's what Dr. Szanton "},{"startTime":983.28,"endTime":989.04,"body":"was talking about are these creative ways of  "},{"startTime":989.04,"endTime":994.92,"body":"thinking about these expectations that were not "},{"startTime":989.04,"endTime":994.92,"body":"initially on your radar and then all of a sudden  "},{"startTime":994.92,"endTime":1001.1,"body":"requests come in and they kind of creep into your "},{"startTime":994.92,"endTime":1001.1,"body":"job requirements. I think that being positive  "},{"startTime":1001.1,"endTime":1008.78,"body":"about that resonated with me. Yeah. I appreciate "},{"startTime":1001.1,"endTime":1008.78,"body":"these little like mantras or short little  "},{"startTime":1009.44,"endTime":1018.08,"body":"word like I get to kind of that quick reframe or "},{"startTime":1009.44,"endTime":1018.08,"body":"you know, I'm not able to do this and I  "},{"startTime":1018.08,"endTime":1023.78,"body":"know who can, right? And, not but, right? Not but. "},{"startTime":1018.08,"endTime":1023.78,"body":"My dad would always say, \"I smell a butt coming,\"  "},{"startTime":1023.78,"endTime":1031.64,"body":"which is like a perfect dad joke. I know "},{"startTime":1023.78,"endTime":1031.64,"body":"someone who can or and I have an idea of how  "},{"startTime":1031.64,"endTime":1038.42,"body":"this might be we can go about this differently "},{"startTime":1031.64,"endTime":1038.42,"body":"so I think that's really helpful. She is a  "},{"startTime":1047.06,"endTime":1052.88,"body":"professor of strategic leadership and leadership "},{"startTime":1047.06,"endTime":1052.88,"body":"development at the U.S Naval War College in  "},{"startTime":1052.88,"endTime":1062.06,"body":"Newport, Rhode Island. Dr. Johnson was such an "},{"startTime":1052.88,"endTime":1062.06,"body":"inspiration. I hung on like every word she said. I  "},{"startTime":1062.06,"endTime":1068.06,"body":"just felt so connected to her talk and I think "},{"startTime":1062.06,"endTime":1068.06,"body":"one of the themes, she had a few themes, but one of  "},{"startTime":1068.06,"endTime":1072.56,"body":"the themes she shared was around connection. "},{"startTime":1068.06,"endTime":1072.56,"body":"I think personally it resonated with me  "},{"startTime":1073.58,"endTime":1079.76,"body":"significantly because I went through as part of "},{"startTime":1073.58,"endTime":1079.76,"body":"the Maryland R3 initiative with Dr. Cynda Rushton.  "},{"startTime":1081.08,"endTime":1086.84,"body":"We went through an exercise of identifying "},{"startTime":1081.08,"endTime":1086.84,"body":"our core values and you know you start out with  "},{"startTime":1086.84,"endTime":1092.18,"body":"this like paper with like a hundred different "},{"startTime":1086.84,"endTime":1092.18,"body":"potential core values and then some that aren't  "},{"startTime":1092.18,"endTime":1098.18,"body":"even probably listed there and you go through "},{"startTime":1092.18,"endTime":1098.18,"body":"this series of very reflective questions to help  "},{"startTime":1098.18,"endTime":1104.9,"body":"you narrow down to maybe two or three core values "},{"startTime":1098.18,"endTime":1104.9,"body":"that become the pillar, like the pillars of your  "},{"startTime":1104.9,"endTime":1111.14,"body":"professional and I would even say personal life. "},{"startTime":1104.9,"endTime":1111.14,"body":"Like what really drives your decision making,  "},{"startTime":1112.04,"endTime":1120.74,"body":"what influences how you navigate your life. "},{"startTime":1112.04,"endTime":1120.74,"body":"So when I did that exercise I came down to one of  "},{"startTime":1120.74,"endTime":1125.72,"body":"my core values was actually connection so when "},{"startTime":1120.74,"endTime":1125.72,"body":"she came out and talked about the importance  "},{"startTime":1125.72,"endTime":1132.26,"body":"of connection I felt very like validated in that "},{"startTime":1125.72,"endTime":1132.26,"body":"because sometimes that's not seen as an important  "},{"startTime":1132.26,"endTime":1139.52,"body":"trait. Sometimes it's more about achieving a goal or kind of more,  "},{"startTime":1140.36,"endTime":1147.26,"body":"I don't know, I just felt, I just felt seen."},{"startTime":1140.36,"endTime":1147.26,"body":"What also resonated with me about feeling and  "},{"startTime":1147.26,"endTime":1153.38,"body":"seeing is that she talked a lot about "},{"startTime":1147.26,"endTime":1153.38,"body":"the importance of mentorship in the context of  "},{"startTime":1153.38,"endTime":1158.06,"body":"connection. She talked about how mentors and a "},{"startTime":1153.38,"endTime":1158.06,"body":"really important role is to hold up a mirror  "},{"startTime":1158.96,"endTime":1164.6,"body":"to the people that you're working with "},{"startTime":1158.96,"endTime":1164.6,"body":"either a team or to an individual that you  "},{"startTime":1164.6,"endTime":1169.46,"body":"hold up a mirror and allow the person to see "},{"startTime":1164.6,"endTime":1169.46,"body":"the parts of themselves that they can't always  "},{"startTime":1169.46,"endTime":1175.22,"body":"see. It's like in their blind spot, especially the "},{"startTime":1169.46,"endTime":1175.22,"body":"really positive parts of how people contribute  "},{"startTime":1175.22,"endTime":1181.28,"body":"but they don't know that they're contributing "},{"startTime":1175.22,"endTime":1181.28,"body":"in this very specific, meaningful way. I  "},{"startTime":1181.28,"endTime":1186.26,"body":"think holding that up to people to allow them "},{"startTime":1181.28,"endTime":1186.26,"body":"to see those parts of themselves, it can be  "},{"startTime":1187.04,"endTime":1196.4,"body":"so powerful. Dr. Johnson shared a story that "},{"startTime":1187.04,"endTime":1196.4,"body":"I think exemplified that. A personal  "},{"startTime":1196.4,"endTime":1203.06,"body":"example I can share of what how this kind of"},{"startTime":1196.4,"endTime":1203.06,"body":"has played out for me is that I was invited to do  "},{"startTime":1203.06,"endTime":1212.24,"body":"a keynote presentation and I don't, I really shy "},{"startTime":1203.06,"endTime":1212.24,"body":"away from any public speaking even though I know  "},{"startTime":1212.24,"endTime":1217.04,"body":"I'm a teacher and I'm on a podcast right now. I "},{"startTime":1212.24,"endTime":1217.04,"body":"really have a hard time rising to the occasion  "},{"startTime":1217.58,"endTime":1222.2,"body":"because I just get so nervous and when "},{"startTime":1217.58,"endTime":1222.2,"body":"I was asked to do a keynote. I said yes,  "},{"startTime":1222.74,"endTime":1229.4,"body":"thank you. And then inside my inner toddler was "},{"startTime":1222.74,"endTime":1229.4,"body":"kicking and screaming and saying no, no, no don't  "},{"startTime":1229.4,"endTime":1234.38,"body":"do that. You can't do that, like you cannot "},{"startTime":1229.4,"endTime":1234.38,"body":"get up on that stage and you can't do  "},{"startTime":1234.38,"endTime":1241.16,"body":"that. And it was through mentorship "},{"startTime":1234.38,"endTime":1241.16,"body":"where I had someone that kept holding up  "},{"startTime":1241.16,"endTime":1246.98,"body":"that mirror to me saying you can do this. You "},{"startTime":1241.16,"endTime":1246.98,"body":"are ready. You have something to contribute  "},{"startTime":1248.6,"endTime":1253.52,"body":"and only you can contribute this thing because "},{"startTime":1248.6,"endTime":1253.52,"body":"it's you. It's coming from your authentic self.  "},{"startTime":1253.52,"endTime":1259.4,"body":"I needed that person to hold up that "},{"startTime":1253.52,"endTime":1259.4,"body":"mirror time and time and time again to get me to  "},{"startTime":1259.94,"endTime":1266.06,"body":"get on that stage, which was still really hard "},{"startTime":1259.94,"endTime":1266.06,"body":"but I did it. I think Dr. Johnson  "},{"startTime":1266.06,"endTime":1274.4,"body":"shared a similar story about how we can really "},{"startTime":1266.06,"endTime":1274.4,"body":"in connection and in mentorship, we can really  "},{"startTime":1274.4,"endTime":1281.36,"body":"support one another and help people grow in a "},{"startTime":1274.4,"endTime":1281.36,"body":"super meaningful way. What are  "},{"startTime":1281.36,"endTime":1286.4,"body":"your thoughts about that Sabrina? You know, when you were talking about your inner toddler  "},{"startTime":1286.94,"endTime":1293.06,"body":"you made me think about I was in a leadership "},{"startTime":1286.94,"endTime":1293.06,"body":"development institute at the college I worked at  "},{"startTime":1293.72,"endTime":1302.9,"body":"prior to changing my role from there and we had "},{"startTime":1293.72,"endTime":1302.9,"body":"to we all had to get up and and speak about the  "},{"startTime":1302.9,"endTime":1311.48,"body":"project that we were doing and because I had "},{"startTime":1302.9,"endTime":1311.48,"body":"already been an educator it wasn't quite as  "},{"startTime":1311.48,"endTime":1316.46,"body":"overwhelming as it was for this one person who "},{"startTime":1311.48,"endTime":1316.46,"body":"was selected to be the speaker for the whole class.  "},{"startTime":1317.36,"endTime":1322.52,"body":"He got up there and he actually went blank. He had a real difficult time with his  "},{"startTime":1323.36,"endTime":1329.78,"body":"just being comfortable being up there and he "},{"startTime":1323.36,"endTime":1329.78,"body":"was so nervous. The president of the college got  "},{"startTime":1329.78,"endTime":1336.8,"body":"up and said to him, \"I always am nervous before I "},{"startTime":1329.78,"endTime":1336.8,"body":"speak because if I'm not it doesn't mean anything  "},{"startTime":1336.8,"endTime":1343.16,"body":"to me.\" That really resonated with me. To me, "},{"startTime":1336.8,"endTime":1343.16,"body":"she was really providing mentorship at her role as  "},{"startTime":1343.16,"endTime":1348.56,"body":"president of the college to this person who was "},{"startTime":1343.16,"endTime":1348.56,"body":"so nervous about speaking and he went on and he  "},{"startTime":1348.56,"endTime":1353.84,"body":"continued. The value of mentorship and having "},{"startTime":1348.56,"endTime":1353.84,"body":"that mirror and somebody saying you can do that  "},{"startTime":1353.84,"endTime":1360.2,"body":"and it's okay this happens to me too, normalizing "},{"startTime":1353.84,"endTime":1360.2,"body":"some of those feelings, I think sometimes is also  "},{"startTime":1360.2,"endTime":1366.56,"body":"important because that's exactly what she did with "},{"startTime":1360.2,"endTime":1366.56,"body":"him. I also think you know when you think about  "},{"startTime":1366.56,"endTime":1374.18,"body":"connection mentorship is so important and you may "},{"startTime":1366.56,"endTime":1374.18,"body":"have a mentor at one point in your journey.  "},{"startTime":1374.18,"endTime":1381.92,"body":"Usually that first mentor you're with for "},{"startTime":1374.18,"endTime":1381.92,"body":"a longer period of time than you would be."},{"startTime":1381.92,"endTime":1387.32,"body":"Then they become friends and colleagues because "},{"startTime":1381.92,"endTime":1387.32,"body":"you now have moved into a different relationship  "},{"startTime":1387.32,"endTime":1393.14,"body":"with that mentor and then you will have more "},{"startTime":1387.32,"endTime":1393.14,"body":"than one mentor in your life because that  "},{"startTime":1393.14,"endTime":1397.7,"body":"mentorship is so important. You need different "},{"startTime":1393.14,"endTime":1397.7,"body":"things from your mentors as you go along and  "},{"startTime":1397.7,"endTime":1404.72,"body":"as your journey through your leadership. I "},{"startTime":1397.7,"endTime":1404.72,"body":"think that's important to consider because your  "},{"startTime":1404.72,"endTime":1411.5,"body":"connections change with with your mentors and they "},{"startTime":1404.72,"endTime":1411.5,"body":"can become you have a different relationship with  "},{"startTime":1411.5,"endTime":1419.54,"body":"them. I find that the longer or the more you go "},{"startTime":1411.5,"endTime":1419.54,"body":"through your journey sometimes that mentor is not  "},{"startTime":1419.54,"endTime":1425.3,"body":"as long as they were in the very beginning because "},{"startTime":1419.54,"endTime":1425.3,"body":"you needed so much development at that point and  "},{"startTime":1425.3,"endTime":1430.28,"body":"and having people give you the confidence as you "},{"startTime":1425.3,"endTime":1430.28,"body":"build and move through the other point I think is  "},{"startTime":1430.28,"endTime":1437.3,"body":"really important with connection is to think about "},{"startTime":1430.28,"endTime":1437.3,"body":"succession planning and that when you are in,  "},{"startTime":1438.44,"endTime":1444.08,"body":"you know, working on committees or I was on in "},{"startTime":1438.44,"endTime":1444.08,"body":"a board position at one point and just thinking  "},{"startTime":1444.08,"endTime":1450.32,"body":"about the connections I had to get me there, "},{"startTime":1444.08,"endTime":1450.32,"body":"how can I help others who are coming up behind  "},{"startTime":1450.32,"endTime":1455.9,"body":"me to be able and make that connection with "},{"startTime":1450.32,"endTime":1455.9,"body":"them so that you can help them grow and move.  "},{"startTime":1456.56,"endTime":1461.3,"body":"Remembering about diversity equity "},{"startTime":1456.56,"endTime":1461.3,"body":"and inclusion and how important it is to  "},{"startTime":1461.9,"endTime":1468.38,"body":"develop everybody in your organization to "},{"startTime":1461.9,"endTime":1468.38,"body":"help it be representative. I kind of took  "},{"startTime":1468.38,"endTime":1474.44,"body":"that away with connection and how important that "},{"startTime":1468.38,"endTime":1474.44,"body":"is with mentorship and then succession planning.  "},{"startTime":1474.44,"endTime":1480.74,"body":"The other thing that I took away to was how "},{"startTime":1474.44,"endTime":1480.74,"body":"important it is to be your authentic self and  "},{"startTime":1480.74,"endTime":1489.38,"body":"because we often look at ourselves as but trying "},{"startTime":1480.74,"endTime":1489.38,"body":"to emulate somebody that has been our mentor  "},{"startTime":1490.4,"endTime":1495.2,"body":"but you still need to be yourself and you were "},{"startTime":1490.4,"endTime":1495.2,"body":"put there for a reason and that connection  "},{"startTime":1496.16,"endTime":1501.2,"body":"you had with somebody who put you there "},{"startTime":1496.16,"endTime":1501.2,"body":"saw something in you that was important  "},{"startTime":1501.2,"endTime":1506.24,"body":"to move into that particular role. I "},{"startTime":1501.2,"endTime":1506.24,"body":"think that's important and to use your  "},{"startTime":1506.24,"endTime":1511.58,"body":"strengths and know what your strengths are "},{"startTime":1506.24,"endTime":1511.58,"body":"so that when you're in a team everybody  "},{"startTime":1511.58,"endTime":1516.98,"body":"values the strengths that you bring to the "},{"startTime":1511.58,"endTime":1516.98,"body":"team and leverages those for for the purpose.  "},{"startTime":1516.98,"endTime":1522.26,"body":"The connection you can have with people  within your strengths is so important.  "},{"startTime":1522.8,"endTime":1529.76,"body":"One story I'll tell you about my strengths "},{"startTime":1522.8,"endTime":1529.76,"body":"were really high in strategic planning and  "},{"startTime":1531.08,"endTime":1537.32,"body":"process abilities. It's  "},{"startTime":1551.84,"endTime":1555.5,"body":"just different ways but together we were a "},{"startTime":1551.84,"endTime":1555.5,"body":"really good team and had a great connection  "},{"startTime":1556.64,"endTime":1563.18,"body":"together.
