One  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":132.54,"endTime":139.2,"body":"of the things that has been developing over many, "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":132.54,"endTime":139.2,"body":"many years is the use of artificial intelligence.  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":139.74,"endTime":146.82,"body":"Its roots go back really to the 1940s so "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":139.74,"endTime":146.82,"body":"this is an evolution of artificial intelligence  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":146.82,"endTime":154.86,"body":"and many of our health care providers use a "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":146.82,"endTime":154.86,"body":"type of artificial intelligence in clinical  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":154.86,"endTime":163.92,"body":"decision support tools and everyday life so "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":154.86,"endTime":163.92,"body":"this new iteration is the generative part of  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":163.92,"endTime":172.74,"body":"artificial intelligence and generative means that "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":163.92,"endTime":172.74,"body":"it's creating new content and so it takes many, for  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":172.74,"endTime":180.9,"body":"example, if we're talking specifically about ChatGPT it has a mathematical equation and it looks at  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":180.9,"endTime":188.7,"body":"probabilities that something that it has scoured "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":180.9,"endTime":188.7,"body":"the internet for or is in its learning database  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":188.7,"endTime":195.18,"body":"is what's the probability that particular "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":188.7,"endTime":195.18,"body":"piece of information would be relevant to the  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":195.18,"endTime":203.04,"body":"question that's been asked and so it's generating "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":195.18,"endTime":203.04,"body":"information whereas past artificial intelligence  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":203.04,"endTime":210.18,"body":"has used data to do predictions but only to "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":203.04,"endTime":210.18,"body":"support decision making where this is generating  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":210.18,"endTime":219.18,"body":"new information. Wow. Amazing how the technology's "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":210.18,"endTime":219.18,"body":"advanced. When we think of  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":225.06,"endTime":233.64,"body":"AI chatbot, meaning we think that this was from "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":225.06,"endTime":233.64,"body":"last year, I give my example to my students at  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":233.64,"endTime":240.48,"body":"the electrocardiogram has been doing this for "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":233.64,"endTime":240.48,"body":"decades, right, it can read P-Q-R-S-T and gives you a  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":240.48,"endTime":250.26,"body":"automated interpretation of the cardiogram. What "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":240.48,"endTime":250.26,"body":"the new iteration of these Generative Pre-trained  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":250.26,"endTime":259.32,"body":"Transformer which is the GPT in the letters, "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":250.26,"endTime":259.32,"body":"is that it collected an enormous vast amount  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":259.32,"endTime":267.0,"body":"of information that is out there in the internet "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":259.32,"endTime":267.0,"body":"and using artificial intelligence and natural  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":267.0,"endTime":276.24,"body":"language processing it's able to respond to "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":267.0,"endTime":276.24,"body":"question much like a human being. And I say human  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":276.24,"endTime":283.5,"body":"being because this is sort of a touch, a touchy "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":276.24,"endTime":283.5,"body":"subject to serving this. It's not human, it's a"},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":283.5,"endTime":293.46,"body":"robot that is talking with you. And so the "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":283.5,"endTime":293.46,"body":"information that is presented is based on the  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":293.46,"endTime":300.6,"body":"accumulated wisdom of the internet using "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":293.46,"endTime":300.6,"body":"predictive analytics. So for example, whenever  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":300.6,"endTime":307.38,"body":"we type \"nursing care,\" the chatbot would predict "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":300.6,"endTime":307.38,"body":"the next word which is probably \"plan,\" \"nursing  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":307.38,"endTime":317.46,"body":"care plan.\" So using that best information they use "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":307.38,"endTime":317.46,"body":"mathematical equation tokens and make it into  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":317.46,"endTime":326.7,"body":"some form of an automated response that "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":317.46,"endTime":326.7,"body":"can do it in very, very short amount of time.   "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":326.7,"endTime":333.24,"body":"It's very, very efficient because, for example, if "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":326.7,"endTime":333.24,"body":"I'm going to read a textbook about the nursing  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":333.24,"endTime":338.88,"body":"care plan of heart failure that would take me "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":333.24,"endTime":338.88,"body":"maybe 45 minutes on a fast read if I really  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":338.88,"endTime":346.92,"body":"want to know a lot, but ChatGPT can do that "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":338.88,"endTime":346.92,"body":"in two and a half minutes, right so that is the  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":346.92,"endTime":352.74,"body":"main impetus and why this is so "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":346.92,"endTime":352.74,"body":"exciting because it makes it so efficient"},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":352.74,"endTime":361.14,"body":"and with the whole idea that we are actually "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":352.74,"endTime":361.14,"body":"saving time offloading some of our work  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":361.14,"endTime":365.76,"body":"and my question to that, and I don't know if "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":361.14,"endTime":365.76,"body":"this would ever be answered, what are we going  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":365.76,"endTime":373.02,"body":"to do with the time we saved? [laughter] Be creative, "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":365.76,"endTime":373.02,"body":"unless ChatGPT does that for us too!  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":374.88,"endTime":380.52,"body":"So Dr. Lim, please describe the pathologies "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":374.88,"endTime":380.52,"body":"of learning that you described in your  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":380.52,"endTime":387.24,"body":"article the amnesia, fantasia and inertia and how "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":380.52,"endTime":387.24,"body":"these concepts relate to concerns about the use  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":387.24,"endTime":392.4,"body":"of ChatGPT and the potential consequences "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":387.24,"endTime":392.4,"body":"in clinical practice from learners relying  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":392.4,"endTime":399.96,"body":"on this type of assistance. Great, thank you for "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":392.4,"endTime":399.96,"body":"that question. So I don't know if our listeners  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":399.96,"endTime":408.36,"body":"are familiar with Dr. Lee Shulman and we "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":399.96,"endTime":408.36,"body":"probably have seen his name on this book,  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":408.9,"endTime":416.22,"body":"Educating Nurses. He wrote the forward "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":408.9,"endTime":416.22,"body":"to Patricia Benner's \"Educating Nurses: A Call  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":416.22,"endTime":421.86,"body":"for Radical Transformation.\" So Dr. Shulman, who "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":416.22,"endTime":421.86,"body":"was a physician by training, was the president  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":421.86,"endTime":428.22,"body":"of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":421.86,"endTime":428.22,"body":"of Teaching. So I discovered that  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":428.22,"endTime":437.46,"body":"article which he wrote in 1999, completely before "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":428.22,"endTime":437.46,"body":"any of these AI, ChatGPT came about and he  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":437.46,"endTime":445.74,"body":"is a scholar in teaching and learning and he"},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":437.46,"endTime":445.74,"body":"explained that many of our learners, adult learners,  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":445.74,"endTime":454.44,"body":"students, college students sort of suffers from the "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":445.74,"endTime":454.44,"body":"what he calls epidemiology of mislearning. He  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":454.44,"endTime":460.52,"body":"calls it pathologies of learning but he also says "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":454.44,"endTime":460.52,"body":"it's a epidemiology of mislearning or malfunction. "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":460.52,"endTime":468.54,"body":"I kind of prefer the word malfunction instead "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":460.52,"endTime":468.54,"body":"of pathology. So amnesia - it is this nature of the  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":468.54,"endTime":475.68,"body":"learner that we forget, we are bound to forget."},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":468.54,"endTime":475.68,"body":"You have just presented something, you asked them  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":475.68,"endTime":482.1,"body":"the following week, they will not remember. So a "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":475.68,"endTime":482.1,"body":"lot of these requires experience and repetition.  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":482.1,"endTime":493.14,"body":"My fear is that easy access to ChatGPT would "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":482.1,"endTime":493.14,"body":"sort of exacerbate the amnesia because we are not  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":493.14,"endTime":499.5,"body":"engaging as much time, we're not investing as much "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":493.14,"endTime":499.5,"body":"time learning about the pathophysiology  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":499.5,"endTime":507.54,"body":"of societies for example because now it's all been "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":499.5,"endTime":507.54,"body":"done for us by the chatbot. When I wrote this  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":507.54,"endTime":514.02,"body":"article I look back to it later and said oh some "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":507.54,"endTime":514.02,"body":"of my idea is probably already obsolete and this  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":514.02,"endTime":521.16,"body":"is only two months ago because now thinking about "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":514.02,"endTime":521.16,"body":"chatbot this could also be a cure for the amnesia  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":522.24,"endTime":531.18,"body":"because the fact that we are exposed to certain "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":522.24,"endTime":531.18,"body":"new materials so little and we have no context by  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":531.18,"endTime":537.96,"body":"using chat but we might actually get the context "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":531.18,"endTime":537.96,"body":"because I could tell the ChatGPT explained to me  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":537.96,"endTime":545.82,"body":"a heart failure patient of somebody with diabetes "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":537.96,"endTime":545.82,"body":"who is living with mental health issues. That's  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":545.82,"endTime":552.36,"body":"the context that the ChatGPT might be able to do. "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":545.82,"endTime":552.36,"body":"Fantasia is the malfunction of understanding so  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":552.36,"endTime":559.44,"body":"you have this notion that you learn something, but "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":552.36,"endTime":559.44,"body":"you actually did not, right, so the idea that you  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":559.44,"endTime":564.12,"body":"feel like you're doing research because you log "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":559.44,"endTime":564.12,"body":"into the internet and you seem like you're doing  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":564.12,"endTime":572.58,"body":"work, which is gives you the illusion "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":564.12,"endTime":572.58,"body":"of research, but may not be with the depth and  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":572.58,"endTime":579.24,"body":"breadth of the knowledge you would like to achieve. "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":572.58,"endTime":579.24,"body":"One of the disadvantage of these  ChatGPT  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":580.32,"endTime":588.48,"body":"it hallucinates - it gives you sometimes information "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":580.32,"endTime":588.48,"body":"that may be totally unrelated to the context and  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":588.48,"endTime":596.4,"body":"that's a challenge. So how do you deal with the "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":588.48,"endTime":596.4,"body":"the fantasia? We provide them context, you know,  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":596.4,"endTime":603.84,"body":"we make sure they they got the patient experience "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":596.4,"endTime":603.84,"body":"to deal with the knowledge so it becomes more  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":603.84,"endTime":611.4,"body":"contextualized. So inertia is how when we "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":603.84,"endTime":611.4,"body":"went to nursing school you learned vast amount of  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":611.4,"endTime":616.56,"body":"information and so much of this is sitting at "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":611.4,"endTime":616.56,"body":"the back of our brains doing absolutely nothing.  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":617.46,"endTime":622.74,"body":"I learned maternal nursing but I never use "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":617.46,"endTime":622.74,"body":"that information but I'm sure if I'd be put  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":622.74,"endTime":629.1,"body":"on hypnosis I'd be able to to come up with "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":622.74,"endTime":629.1,"body":"those and protect it in the back of my head  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":629.1,"endTime":637.08,"body":"but we are not using the information. So ChatGPT AI is producing a lot of maybe information  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":637.08,"endTime":646.56,"body":"that we will not be using and it's sort of "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":637.08,"endTime":646.56,"body":"a disadvantage in a profession like ours because we  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":646.56,"endTime":653.1,"body":"rely a lot on movement, activity, things that we "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":646.56,"endTime":653.1,"body":"do with our hands because we're prompted with our  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":653.1,"endTime":661.62,"body":"brains to do that. So that's an issue with"},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":653.1,"endTime":661.62,"body":"ChatGPT because nursing is such contextualized  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":661.62,"endTime":671.4,"body":"to empathy, building the tool is not, not yet well "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":661.62,"endTime":671.4,"body":"formed to develop empathy because empathy requires  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":671.4,"endTime":678.48,"body":"proximity, presence, and intuition. Those "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":671.4,"endTime":678.48,"body":"types of things the other one, pathology  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":678.48,"endTime":684.66,"body":"or the other epidemiology that I did not write "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":678.48,"endTime":684.66,"body":"in my article but Schulman mentions is nostalgia.  "},{"speaker":"authored the article, \"ChatGPT","startTime":684.66,"endTime":694.02,"body":"This is the one that is afflicting the faculty.
