With that  "},{"startTime":162.42,"endTime":169.86,"body":"being said, I think me personally, right, I think "},{"startTime":162.42,"endTime":169.86,"body":"CBE is one of the big solutions to help that shift.  "},{"startTime":171.24,"endTime":178.26,"body":"I think a lot of other people are thinking "},{"startTime":171.24,"endTime":178.26,"body":"so too. I think some people have some questions.  "},{"startTime":178.26,"endTime":183.84,"body":"Some people aren't really sure like what is "},{"startTime":178.26,"endTime":183.84,"body":"CBE. So I was wondering if you could describe  "},{"startTime":183.84,"endTime":190.38,"body":"a little bit about how you see what CBE is from "},{"startTime":183.84,"endTime":190.38,"body":"your perspective and then maybe we can also  "},{"startTime":190.38,"endTime":201.08,"body":"talk about some innovation around CBE to help "},{"startTime":190.38,"endTime":201.08,"body":"move nursing education toward that direction."},{"startTime":201.08,"endTime":208.92,"body":"Yes. So competency-based education is an outcome-based "},{"startTime":201.08,"endTime":208.92,"body":"educational framework. It will emphasize learners'  "},{"startTime":208.92,"endTime":215.82,"body":"development of competencies and it's more about "},{"startTime":208.92,"endTime":215.82,"body":"demonstration. It could be a demonstration of  "},{"startTime":215.82,"endTime":223.26,"body":"knowledge, skills, and attitudes. The assessment,"},{"startTime":215.82,"endTime":223.26,"body":"it's almost like a natural part of everyday life  "},{"startTime":223.26,"endTime":228.96,"body":"of a student in competency-based education. It's "},{"startTime":223.26,"endTime":228.96,"body":"not something that happens at the very end. It's  "},{"startTime":228.96,"endTime":234.9,"body":"really happening throughout the program. "},{"startTime":228.96,"endTime":234.9,"body":"I want to say also some formative  "},{"startTime":234.9,"endTime":241.74,"body":"and summative are blended a little bit more and "},{"startTime":234.9,"endTime":241.74,"body":"it's through various modalities. I think that  "},{"startTime":241.74,"endTime":246.72,"body":"also speaks to the need to not only do one "},{"startTime":241.74,"endTime":246.72,"body":"type of assessment but multiple different  "},{"startTime":246.72,"endTime":253.32,"body":"ways, multiple different environments and what "},{"startTime":246.72,"endTime":253.32,"body":"I really appreciate about competency-based  "},{"startTime":253.32,"endTime":260.64,"body":"education is that learners are in the power "},{"startTime":253.32,"endTime":260.64,"body":"of their progress. The things you did "},{"startTime":348.36,"endTime":353.7,"body":"that were very well done, the critical steps  "},{"startTime":353.7,"endTime":358.14,"body":"that you missed, and then that "},{"startTime":353.7,"endTime":358.14,"body":"remediation to get that student right back to, oh,  "},{"startTime":358.14,"endTime":364.62,"body":"I get it now. Let me try that again. We also have"},{"startTime":358.14,"endTime":364.62,"body":"vrClinicals, which is a step above anything we've had  "},{"startTime":364.62,"endTime":371.58,"body":"before, which actually in year three and four"},{"startTime":364.62,"endTime":371.58,"body":"for the nursing student they're going to  "},{"startTime":371.58,"endTime":379.98,"body":"be faced with multiple patients and how you triage "},{"startTime":371.58,"endTime":379.98,"body":"and how you organize your priorities and patient  "},{"startTime":379.98,"endTime":383.76,"body":"load because you're not going to be put in a "},{"startTime":379.98,"endTime":383.76,"body":"situation we've got one patient. You're going  "},{"startTime":383.76,"endTime":388.38,"body":"to have multiple patients and so the vrClinical "},{"startTime":383.76,"endTime":388.38,"body":"application that was co-developed with the NLN"},{"startTime":388.38,"endTime":396.0,"body":"and Wolters Kluwer is another fascinating way to "},{"startTime":388.38,"endTime":396.0,"body":"have a move toward competency-based education for  "},{"startTime":396.0,"endTime":402.54,"body":"the student and we also believe that patient "},{"startTime":396.0,"endTime":402.54,"body":"simulation is another way, a great way to assess  "},{"startTime":402.54,"endTime":407.28,"body":"the students confidence development. We have a "},{"startTime":402.54,"endTime":407.28,"body":"system called SimCapture that will actually  "},{"startTime":407.28,"endTime":414.72,"body":"streamline your simulation evaluations, provide "},{"startTime":407.28,"endTime":414.72,"body":"data performance and quality improvement of your  "},{"startTime":414.72,"endTime":423.36,"body":"curriculum. So we have many ways of working toward "},{"startTime":414.72,"endTime":423.36,"body":"a competency-based education. Lastly, we have a  "},{"startTime":423.36,"endTime":432.66,"body":"system called Resuscitation Quality Improvement, "},{"startTime":423.36,"endTime":432.66,"body":"which was designed for quality CPR, so very  "},{"startTime":432.66,"endTime":440.46,"body":"real-time coaching for compression depth "},{"startTime":432.66,"endTime":440.46,"body":"and ventilation and really muscle memory  "},{"startTime":440.46,"endTime":449.34,"body":"and exercising good utilization of what "},{"startTime":440.46,"endTime":449.34,"body":"it takes to be able to provide quality CPR and  "},{"startTime":449.34,"endTime":454.38,"body":"resuscitation. So those are just some ways and "},{"startTime":449.34,"endTime":454.38,"body":"some of the solutions that we have that have  "},{"startTime":454.38,"endTime":461.4,"body":"built-in feedback mechanisms, data, and outcomes for "},{"startTime":454.38,"endTime":461.4,"body":"faculty to be able to move toward competency-based  "},{"startTime":461.4,"endTime":468.06,"body":"education. We're so excited as we evolve toward "},{"startTime":461.4,"endTime":468.06,"body":"this to be able to offer these solutions."},{"startTime":468.06,"endTime":475.38,"body":"That's great Rosie and each of those different "},{"startTime":468.06,"endTime":475.38,"body":"solutions and many of them are  "},{"startTime":475.38,"endTime":481.86,"body":"even in different modalities of experiential "},{"startTime":475.38,"endTime":481.86,"body":"learning. I think what's really important to  "},{"startTime":481.86,"endTime":488.82,"body":"note having been working with with your "},{"startTime":481.86,"endTime":488.82,"body":"teams to develop these solutions in some part,  "},{"startTime":490.02,"endTime":495.66,"body":"that they also can be leveled. "},{"startTime":490.02,"endTime":495.66,"body":"They can be leveled: first semester, second semester,  "},{"startTime":495.66,"endTime":500.88,"body":"third semester and even into practice "},{"startTime":495.66,"endTime":500.88,"body":"and I have a particular interest  "},{"startTime":500.88,"endTime":508.02,"body":"in that transition to practice gap and these "},{"startTime":500.88,"endTime":508.02,"body":"solutions if integrated well and throughout  "},{"startTime":508.02,"endTime":513.96,"body":"a curriculum and not just a one and done, not just "},{"startTime":508.02,"endTime":513.96,"body":"a you know, you miss clinical do this activity.  "},{"startTime":515.1,"endTime":523.86,"body":"These are really intended to build and "},{"startTime":515.1,"endTime":523.86,"body":"help that learner move the needle  "},{"startTime":523.86,"endTime":530.58,"body":"of which is their information and feedback "},{"startTime":523.86,"endTime":530.58,"body":"to them that they are growing and learning and  "},{"startTime":530.58,"endTime":537.42,"body":"becoming the competent nurse that is "},{"startTime":530.58,"endTime":537.42,"body":"ready for practice, that we can hand over to our  "},{"startTime":537.42,"endTime":544.74,"body":"practice partners to say this person can is...I "},{"startTime":537.42,"endTime":544.74,"body":"almost said entrustable. That's medical language  "},{"startTime":544.74,"endTime":551.82,"body":"and I have thoughts about that too, entrustable "},{"startTime":544.74,"endTime":551.82,"body":"for our community to provide care and nursing I  "},{"startTime":551.82,"endTime":558.54,"body":"do hope is moving towards...can take a page "},{"startTime":551.82,"endTime":558.54,"body":"out of medicine's book. Medicine has"},{"startTime":558.54,"endTime":563.22,"body":"worked very hard and maybe they're still working "},{"startTime":558.54,"endTime":563.22,"body":"hard to move towards competency-based education  "},{"startTime":564.06,"endTime":569.64,"body":"and they have created entrustable professional "},{"startTime":564.06,"endTime":569.64,"body":"activities, right, your EPAs and I think nursing  "},{"startTime":570.48,"endTime":575.64,"body":"will probably be moving in that direction as "},{"startTime":570.48,"endTime":575.64,"body":"well, where a nurse in order to function  "},{"startTime":575.64,"endTime":580.56,"body":"independently in the scope of their practice has "},{"startTime":575.64,"endTime":580.56,"body":"to do these things. Then so how do these  "},{"startTime":580.56,"endTime":587.46,"body":"teaching modalities multiple opportunities across "},{"startTime":580.56,"endTime":587.46,"body":"multiple courses help to move a learner toward  "},{"startTime":587.46,"endTime":595.44,"body":"that picture of, I'm ready. I can show you right now, "},{"startTime":587.46,"endTime":595.44,"body":"when I graduated I was not ready not ready. "},{"startTime":596.16,"endTime":600.96,"body":"I figured it out with a lot of help but I "},{"startTime":596.16,"endTime":600.96,"body":"was not ready and that was scary and it felt  "},{"startTime":600.96,"endTime":603.365,"body":"terrible to be honest."},{"startTime":603.585,"endTime":608.866,"body":"You know, one of the things that as you were speaking came to my mind"},{"startTime":608.866,"endTime":614.82,"body":"time-sequential learning, low dose high frequency. "},{"startTime":608.866,"endTime":614.82,"body":"We at Laerdal fully believe that is the way  "},{"startTime":614.82,"endTime":620.52,"body":"to stay relevant, competent, confident "},{"startTime":614.82,"endTime":620.52,"body":"and we have some early indicators from some of  "},{"startTime":620.52,"endTime":624.96,"body":"the early adopters of RQI and nursing schools "},{"startTime":620.52,"endTime":624.96,"body":"and we've got students that are now in practice  "},{"startTime":624.96,"endTime":634.38,"body":"and we've got save stories! In our partnership, we "},{"startTime":715.26,"endTime":721.56,"body":"have now focused towards competency-based  "},{"startTime":721.56,"endTime":727.98,"body":"education and what I really want us to do "},{"startTime":721.56,"endTime":727.98,"body":"is enable that sustainable implementation  "},{"startTime":727.98,"endTime":735.96,"body":"so that we can show and document the benefits of "},{"startTime":727.98,"endTime":735.96,"body":"competency-based education in the programs and  "},{"startTime":735.96,"endTime":740.46,"body":"it's given of course when we talk about even "},{"startTime":735.96,"endTime":740.46,"body":"now in the future the use of data, the use of  "},{"startTime":740.46,"endTime":748.08,"body":"artificial intelligence to enable more effective "},{"startTime":740.46,"endTime":748.08,"body":"implementation of competency-based education but  "},{"startTime":748.62,"endTime":753.42,"body":"I also want to acknowledge that "},{"startTime":748.62,"endTime":753.42,"body":"it doesn't end with education."},{"startTime":755.46,"endTime":761.4,"body":"I mean it's really to connect the continuum "},{"startTime":755.46,"endTime":761.4,"body":"between education and practice so first of all of  "},{"startTime":761.4,"endTime":767.4,"body":"course it starts with meeting the demand out there, "},{"startTime":761.4,"endTime":767.4,"body":"not closing the doors to everyone who wants to  "},{"startTime":767.4,"endTime":773.28,"body":"study as a nurse so enabling the schools to take "},{"startTime":767.4,"endTime":773.28,"body":"in the students, every student who wants to become  "},{"startTime":773.28,"endTime":779.46,"body":"a nurse, but even during the studies to keep them "},{"startTime":773.28,"endTime":779.46,"body":"engaged, to keep them in school so we work with  "},{"startTime":779.46,"endTime":785.58,"body":"of course the dropout but also afterwards to keep "},{"startTime":779.46,"endTime":785.58,"body":"them in the workplace to help them find the right  "},{"startTime":785.58,"endTime":792.54,"body":"job and to keep them in practice and I don't want "},{"startTime":785.58,"endTime":792.54,"body":"to underestimate that. It's not only about  "},{"startTime":793.5,"endTime":800.94,"body":"giving clinical experiences. It's not "},{"startTime":793.5,"endTime":800.94,"body":"only about them building or preparing  "},{"startTime":800.94,"endTime":806.04,"body":"for the worst. It's really about ensuring "},{"startTime":800.94,"endTime":806.04,"body":"a better work environment for those nurses  "},{"startTime":807.0,"endTime":814.38,"body":"and at Laerdal we never even attempt or claim to do "},{"startTime":807.0,"endTime":814.38,"body":"any of this on our own.
