So for those "},{"startTime":60.64,"endTime":66.08,"body":"of you that don't know about RQI, just a quick  "},{"startTime":66.08,"endTime":74.0,"body":"introduction about RQI. It is a way to maintain CPR "},{"startTime":66.08,"endTime":74.0,"body":"competencies. It is a digital and simulation-based  "},{"startTime":74.0,"endTime":80.96,"body":"training that delivers high realistic and lifelike "},{"startTime":74.0,"endTime":80.96,"body":"scenarios that build confidence among its users  "},{"startTime":80.96,"endTime":86.24,"body":"and also competencies without the constraints "},{"startTime":80.96,"endTime":86.24,"body":"of doing the traditional CPR training in the  "},{"startTime":86.24,"endTime":91.68,"body":"classroom. These are self-directed, science-based "},{"startTime":86.24,"endTime":91.68,"body":"approach that allows providers to train on their  "},{"startTime":91.68,"endTime":96.4,"body":"own time and they spend more time with their "},{"startTime":91.68,"endTime":96.4,"body":"patient and less time in the classroom. It  "},{"startTime":96.4,"endTime":103.2,"body":"covers basic life support, pediatric advanced life "},{"startTime":96.4,"endTime":103.2,"body":"support, and they also have advanced cardiovascular  "},{"startTime":103.2,"endTime":108.8,"body":"life support also known as ACLS. So it is backed "},{"startTime":103.2,"endTime":108.8,"body":"by research. We have some research articles about  "},{"startTime":108.8,"endTime":116.32,"body":"RQI that we'll share links to at the end of this "},{"startTime":108.8,"endTime":116.32,"body":"podcast. So to get us started, I'd love to introduce  "},{"startTime":116.32,"endTime":123.92,"body":"our guests today. First guest is Dr. Sarah Beebe and "},{"startTime":116.32,"endTime":123.92,"body":"she is a simulation center program manager at Bay  "},{"startTime":123.92,"endTime":131.36,"body":"Health Medical Center in Delaware. And we also have "},{"startTime":123.92,"endTime":131.36,"body":"Dr. Donna Guerra who is currently the clinical  "},{"startTime":131.36,"endTime":137.92,"body":"associate professor in the College of Nursing at "},{"startTime":131.36,"endTime":137.92,"body":"the University of Alabama in Huntsville. So warm  "},{"startTime":137.92,"endTime":144.0,"body":"welcome, thank you for being here with us today. "},{"startTime":137.92,"endTime":144.0,"body":"Thank you. Thank you. So we're going to dive right  "},{"startTime":144.0,"endTime":151.28,"body":"in. First question - tell us a little bit about RQI "},{"startTime":144.0,"endTime":151.28,"body":"and how you're using it at your institution. And  "},{"startTime":151.28,"endTime":160.64,"body":"I'll start with you Dr. Beebe. Yes, thanks. So I "},{"startTime":151.28,"endTime":160.64,"body":"work at a health care center in Delaware. We have  "},{"startTime":160.64,"endTime":167.84,"body":"two hospitals, two freestanding ERs and then "},{"startTime":160.64,"endTime":167.84,"body":"also a number of urgent cares and outpatient  "},{"startTime":167.84,"endTime":174.96,"body":"clinics as well and we use RQI. We initially "},{"startTime":167.84,"endTime":174.96,"body":"rolled it out just in the hospital setting, but  "},{"startTime":174.96,"endTime":182.8,"body":"now we have RQI carts or the device that the "},{"startTime":174.96,"endTime":182.8,"body":"manikins and the computers sit on, we have them  "},{"startTime":182.8,"endTime":188.64,"body":"throughout the hospital, our freestanding emergency "},{"startTime":182.8,"endTime":188.64,"body":"departments, and then one of our large urgent care  "},{"startTime":188.64,"endTime":191.249,"body":"and outpatient clinics as well."},{"startTime":191.249,"endTime":197.12,"body":"And what about you Dr. Guerra? How are you"},{"startTime":191.249,"endTime":197.12,"body":"using our RQI at your institution?  "},{"startTime":197.12,"endTime":212.96,"body":"So we are a college of nursing that offers from "},{"startTime":197.12,"endTime":212.96,"body":"BSN, MSN ,to PhD and DNP. We do offer RQI as a means  "},{"startTime":212.96,"endTime":222.0,"body":"for BLS training for any of our nursing students "},{"startTime":212.96,"endTime":222.0,"body":"who are interested in doing that or our faculty,  "},{"startTime":222.0,"endTime":232.32,"body":"but we require it in the traditional BSN track "},{"startTime":222.0,"endTime":232.32,"body":"of our undergraduate program. So a lot of schools,  "},{"startTime":232.32,"endTime":239.92,"body":"I know when I went to nursing school, you had to "},{"startTime":232.32,"endTime":239.92,"body":"do your CPR training and kind of before you go  "},{"startTime":239.92,"endTime":244.24,"body":"to school, bring in a copy of your card, it was put "},{"startTime":239.92,"endTime":244.24,"body":"into your record and you were good for two years,  "},{"startTime":244.24,"endTime":249.76,"body":"you know and I think a lot of places are still "},{"startTime":244.24,"endTime":249.76,"body":"probably doing that same method. So what made your  "},{"startTime":249.76,"endTime":258.0,"body":"institutions decide to to try RQI and and  "},{"startTime":249.76,"endTime":258.0,"body":"track CPR in a different way? How did you come  "},{"startTime":258.0,"endTime":265.2,"body":"to that decision? Since you brought that up about "},{"startTime":258.0,"endTime":265.2,"body":"how we traditionally do that in nursing education,  "},{"startTime":265.2,"endTime":279.84,"body":"we did that as well. And in 2022 the NLN and "},{"startTime":265.2,"endTime":279.84,"body":"Laerdal with RQI put out a call for colleges  "},{"startTime":279.84,"endTime":288.8,"body":"of nursing or other institutions that wanted "},{"startTime":279.84,"endTime":288.8,"body":"to be early adopters of this technology with  "},{"startTime":288.8,"endTime":294.56,"body":"BLS. And we were one of 12 nursing "},{"startTime":288.8,"endTime":294.56,"body":"programs nationwide selected to  "},{"startTime":294.56,"endTime":303.84,"body":"be change agents in nursing education in "},{"startTime":294.56,"endTime":303.84,"body":"implementing RQI in our nursing programs."},{"startTime":303.84,"endTime":308.08,"body":"And what about you Dr. Beebe? How did how did "},{"startTime":303.84,"endTime":308.08,"body":"you come up... you're in a clinical setting, which  "},{"startTime":308.08,"endTime":316.56,"body":"is great. In academia but also clinical. Yeah, so a "},{"startTime":308.08,"endTime":316.56,"body":"a big part of it was to get our staff back doing  "},{"startTime":316.56,"endTime":322.64,"body":"what they wanted to do, which was be at the bedside. "},{"startTime":316.56,"endTime":322.64,"body":"Nobody wants to sit in a classroom on top of, you  "},{"startTime":322.64,"endTime":331.12,"body":"know, your usual workload and so that was a big "},{"startTime":322.64,"endTime":331.12,"body":"driver for for us, not to mention the fact that  "},{"startTime":332.4,"endTime":339.36,"body":"you know RQI you're doing it quarterly so you "},{"startTime":332.4,"endTime":339.36,"body":"get to practice those skills quarterly. And  "},{"startTime":339.36,"endTime":347.6,"body":"you know, that's a big deal for a staff nurse "},{"startTime":339.36,"endTime":347.6,"body":"or for a clinician who may not see codes on a  "},{"startTime":347.6,"endTime":354.16,"body":"regular basis or may not need their CPR skills "},{"startTime":347.6,"endTime":354.16,"body":"very often. And so this gave them the opportunity  "},{"startTime":354.16,"endTime":361.84,"body":"to practice those skills over and over again, "},{"startTime":354.16,"endTime":361.84,"body":"that kind of low dose, high frequency training  "},{"startTime":361.84,"endTime":370.72,"body":"and really it just made sense for our health "},{"startTime":361.84,"endTime":370.72,"body":"care system to do that. And we implemented RQI in  "},{"startTime":370.72,"endTime":379.76,"body":"2017 so we were also kind of those early adopters "},{"startTime":370.72,"endTime":379.76,"body":"of RQI and have been using it for quite a while.  "},{"startTime":379.76,"endTime":386.56,"body":"Yeah, I do have a question about your experiences "},{"startTime":379.76,"endTime":386.56,"body":"and I just got interested with the word \"change  "},{"startTime":386.56,"endTime":394.64,"body":"agent,\" and it seems like both of you and your "},{"startTime":386.56,"endTime":394.64,"body":"organizations are early adopters and change  "},{"startTime":394.64,"endTime":406.56,"body":"agents. And therefore my question is so how did "},{"startTime":394.64,"endTime":406.56,"body":"RQI change your organizations or your workflow?  "},{"startTime":406.56,"endTime":416.16,"body":"So for us, I'll echo what Dr. Beebe said about that "},{"startTime":406.56,"endTime":416.16,"body":"frequent, repeated practice, especially with those  "},{"startTime":416.16,"endTime":427.04,"body":"providers that may not be performing CPR on a "},{"startTime":416.16,"endTime":427.04,"body":"regular basis, right. That's even more important  "},{"startTime":427.04,"endTime":436.32,"body":"in that frequent repeated practice in nursing "},{"startTime":427.04,"endTime":436.32,"body":"students who are already novices with BLS, having  "},{"startTime":436.32,"endTime":444.08,"body":"that ability to do frequent, repeated practice is "},{"startTime":436.32,"endTime":444.08,"body":"pivotal in those students gaining and maintaining  "},{"startTime":444.08,"endTime":454.32,"body":"competency of basic life support for us in the "},{"startTime":444.08,"endTime":454.32,"body":"health care setting. You know, a big change for  "},{"startTime":454.32,"endTime":463.6,"body":"us was the fact that we no longer need to offer "},{"startTime":454.32,"endTime":463.6,"body":"all of these BLS courses that we once offered and  "},{"startTime":463.6,"endTime":469.28,"body":"our staff don't need to be taken, as I mentioned "},{"startTime":463.6,"endTime":469.28,"body":"earlier, away from the bedside for a daylong course  "},{"startTime":469.28,"endTime":476.24,"body":"or a half day course or whatever it is. Even when "},{"startTime":469.28,"endTime":476.24,"body":"we did you know all online and then you came in  "},{"startTime":476.24,"endTime":483.12,"body":"and did your skills it still took people off "},{"startTime":476.24,"endTime":483.12,"body":"the units, it took them away from the bedside.  "},{"startTime":483.12,"endTime":490.16,"body":"And you know, for us, we have carts throughout the "},{"startTime":483.12,"endTime":490.16,"body":"organization so a lot of time we see nurses and  "},{"startTime":490.16,"endTime":497.44,"body":"other clinicians you know popping off their unit "},{"startTime":490.16,"endTime":497.44,"body":"all day long going to one of the carts, doing their  "},{"startTime":497.44,"endTime":502.32,"body":"skills, and hopping right back into patient care, "},{"startTime":497.44,"endTime":502.32,"body":"I mean literally feet from where they are taking  "},{"startTime":502.32,"endTime":508.48,"body":"care of their patients. So, you know, it was just "},{"startTime":502.32,"endTime":508.48,"body":"such a huge change not to mention the fact that  "},{"startTime":508.48,"endTime":515.2,"body":"they now feel a lot more confident in at least "},{"startTime":508.48,"endTime":515.2,"body":"those basic CPR skills. Yeah, you brought up some  "},{"startTime":515.2,"endTime":520.0,"body":"good points because I think about for me, I was an "},{"startTime":515.2,"endTime":520.0,"body":"OB so thank goodness I didn't have, I've never done  "},{"startTime":520.0,"endTime":527.04,"body":"CPR on an actual person, so I can imagine if I was "},{"startTime":520.0,"endTime":527.04,"body":"to go and and practice CPR a year after getting  "},{"startTime":527.04,"endTime":532.72,"body":"my card my skills would have decayed. I'm sure I "},{"startTime":527.04,"endTime":532.72,"body":"would not be doing my compressions correctly. So I  "},{"startTime":532.72,"endTime":540.8,"body":"love the idea of RQI doing that as you mentioned "},{"startTime":532.72,"endTime":540.8,"body":"high frequency, you know but low dose. So can you  "},{"startTime":540.8,"endTime":545.44,"body":"explain to us those of us that aren't familiar "},{"startTime":540.8,"endTime":545.44,"body":"with RQI, what does that look like every quarter?  "},{"startTime":545.44,"endTime":551.2,"body":"Like what's being done, what's the amount of "},{"startTime":545.44,"endTime":551.2,"body":"time that's needed to kind of do those quarterly  "},{"startTime":551.2,"endTime":559.2,"body":"checks? I'm happy to take this one. So we use "},{"startTime":551.2,"endTime":559.2,"body":"a learning management system in the hospital  "},{"startTime":559.2,"endTime":564.48,"body":"just like you do in the academic setting. "},{"startTime":559.2,"endTime":564.48,"body":"We typically use HealthStream but it pops  "},{"startTime":564.48,"endTime":572.0,"body":"up on our learning management system portal "},{"startTime":564.48,"endTime":572.0,"body":"quarterly. In fact, it feels more frequent at times,  "},{"startTime":572.0,"endTime":579.2,"body":"but pops up on our learning management system "},{"startTime":572.0,"endTime":579.2,"body":"that we are due for our quarterly RQI and then  "},{"startTime":579.2,"endTime":587.84,"body":"there is a very short assessment on online on the "},{"startTime":579.2,"endTime":587.84,"body":"computer that you do first or actually you can  "},{"startTime":587.84,"endTime":595.356,"body":"do it in any order. But you do an online component "},{"startTime":587.84,"endTime":595.356,"body":"and then we go to one of the carts, sign in,  "},{"startTime":595.356,"endTime":601.44,"body":"into our account on our learning management "},{"startTime":595.356,"endTime":601.44,"body":"system and then the computer is connected to  "},{"startTime":601.44,"endTime":610.08,"body":"the manikins and we do an adult and a newborn. "},{"startTime":601.44,"endTime":610.08,"body":"You know, we show our CPR skills little more  "},{"startTime":610.08,"endTime":617.04,"body":"advanced for, you know PALS and NRP and ACLS, but "},{"startTime":610.08,"endTime":617.04,"body":"for the basic life support that's pretty much what  "},{"startTime":617.04,"endTime":625.52,"body":"it looks like, takes about 15-20 minutes no more "},{"startTime":617.04,"endTime":625.52,"body":"than that and that's including the online portion.  "},{"startTime":625.52,"endTime":632.56,"body":"The other important the other thing that I find "},{"startTime":625.52,"endTime":632.56,"body":"interesting is that when we answer questions on  "},{"startTime":632.56,"endTime":639.2,"body":"the computer or do our skills it asks us how "},{"startTime":632.56,"endTime":639.2,"body":"confident are you that you know the answer to  "},{"startTime":639.2,"endTime":646.48,"body":"like how confident are you that you know that "},{"startTime":639.2,"endTime":646.48,"body":"you did it correctly even without the feedback.  "},{"startTime":646.48,"endTime":651.36,"body":"And I think that that's an interesting "},{"startTime":646.48,"endTime":651.36,"body":"component to it because you know it can really  "},{"startTime":651.36,"endTime":657.52,"body":"show some of those differences in how we think "},{"startTime":651.36,"endTime":657.52,"body":"we do and how we actually do, which is"},{"startTime":657.52,"endTime":665.6,"body":"cool. And one of the nice things, also once you do "},{"startTime":657.52,"endTime":665.6,"body":"those quarterly checks it also extends your CPR  "},{"startTime":665.6,"endTime":672.48,"body":"certification by another three months so if you "},{"startTime":665.6,"endTime":672.48,"body":"keep up with your quarterly assessments you'll  "},{"startTime":672.48,"endTime":678.4,"body":"actually keep on prolonging your certification, "},{"startTime":672.48,"endTime":678.4,"body":"which I think is a great added bonus too. Yeah.  "},{"startTime":678.4,"endTime":685.84,"body":"I like that idea of not having to go through a"},{"startTime":678.4,"endTime":685.84,"body":"lengthy time to just renew your CPR and with  "},{"startTime":685.84,"endTime":691.76,"body":"that, I would like to kind of like go back to some "},{"startTime":685.84,"endTime":691.76,"body":"of the concepts that I've heard that two of you  "},{"startTime":691.76,"endTime":698.88,"body":"say in terms of skills decay. And I think that was "},{"startTime":691.76,"endTime":698.88,"body":"from Kellie and I think that's the rationale for  "},{"startTime":698.88,"endTime":708.308,"body":"the yes, you can extend your CPR renewal because "},{"startTime":698.88,"endTime":708.308,"body":"then your skills have not declined or decayed. So "},{"startTime":708.32,"endTime":717.2,"body":"the question that I would like to ask you now is "},{"startTime":708.32,"endTime":717.2,"body":"like what did you observe from your learners in  "},{"startTime":717.2,"endTime":725.84,"body":"the academic settings and in the hospitals in "},{"startTime":717.2,"endTime":725.84,"body":"terms of the skills. What do you measure those  "},{"startTime":725.84,"endTime":737.2,"body":"skills or what are the observable changes "},{"startTime":725.84,"endTime":737.2,"body":"in your staff or personnel competencies?"},{"startTime":737.2,"endTime":748.88,"body":"I'll let Dr. Beebe discuss the clinical skills "},{"startTime":737.2,"endTime":748.88,"body":"part of that. For us in our academic setting, it  "},{"startTime":748.88,"endTime":760.88,"body":"really changed the way we approached BLS as far "},{"startTime":748.88,"endTime":760.88,"body":"as previously, our students we did require them to  "},{"startTime":760.88,"endTime":771.36,"body":"have BLS through the American Heart Association, "},{"startTime":760.88,"endTime":771.36,"body":"so that part is the same, but it really has  "},{"startTime":771.36,"endTime":779.12,"body":"revolutionized the way that we approached that "},{"startTime":771.36,"endTime":779.12,"body":"by incorporating it into our curriculum. So the  "},{"startTime":779.12,"endTime":786.88,"body":"way that that we decided to implement that was "},{"startTime":779.12,"endTime":786.88,"body":"to make it a clinical requirement of our first  "},{"startTime":786.88,"endTime":793.6,"body":"semester students in the upper division of "},{"startTime":786.88,"endTime":793.6,"body":"our program. During that semester, they have  "},{"startTime":793.6,"endTime":803.68,"body":"their first clinical course of health assessment "},{"startTime":793.6,"endTime":803.68,"body":"and so we give them clinical time while they're  "},{"startTime":803.68,"endTime":814.034,"body":"here in the simulation lab to have time to do "},{"startTime":803.68,"endTime":814.034,"body":"that initial test because we talked about the  "},{"startTime":814.034,"endTime":822.4,"body":"quarterly update, but we didn't really talk "},{"startTime":814.034,"endTime":822.4,"body":"about the initial time commitment for gaining  "},{"startTime":822.4,"endTime":829.92,"body":"that initial competency before they go into "},{"startTime":822.4,"endTime":829.92,"body":"their into their quarterly. And the advantage to  "},{"startTime":829.92,"endTime":839.6,"body":"that is that while it is slightly longer than the "},{"startTime":829.92,"endTime":839.6,"body":"quarterly time commitment, it's not much more than  "},{"startTime":839.6,"endTime":850.96,"body":"that. It's slightly longer for the online portion. "},{"startTime":839.6,"endTime":850.96,"body":"It's slightly longer for the skills portion. But  "},{"startTime":850.96,"endTime":861.36,"body":"it's straightforward, to the point, and students "},{"startTime":850.96,"endTime":861.36,"body":"are able to do that and still work that into their  "},{"startTime":861.36,"endTime":871.44,"body":"clinical time as they're becoming immersed into "},{"startTime":861.36,"endTime":871.44,"body":"the nursing curricula, which is helpful to them.  "},{"startTime":871.44,"endTime":880.72,"body":"They're already in the lab... It allows "},{"startTime":871.44,"endTime":880.72,"body":"them to have access to faculty if they have any  "},{"startTime":880.72,"endTime":885.52,"body":"issues or need assistance with that "},{"startTime":880.72,"endTime":885.52,"body":"initial certification or using the  "},{"startTime":885.52,"endTime":894.64,"body":"skills station, so it really has changed the "},{"startTime":885.52,"endTime":894.64,"body":"the way we approach BLS in our curriculum.  "},{"startTime":894.64,"endTime":905.2,"body":"It is a part of our curriculum now rather "},{"startTime":894.64,"endTime":905.2,"body":"than previously it was a requirement to attend."},{"startTime":905.2,"endTime":911.28,"body":"I love, I love that you just differentiated that "},{"startTime":905.2,"endTime":911.28,"body":"that it used to be a requirement and now it's part  "},{"startTime":911.28,"endTime":920.103,"body":"of our curriculum, which is so wonderful. In the "},{"startTime":911.28,"endTime":920.103,"body":"health care setting, what we have found is that  "},{"startTime":920.103,"endTime":928.48,"body":"you know, we can then when we do get our learners "},{"startTime":920.103,"endTime":928.48,"body":"in a room together, we can focus on higher level  "},{"startTime":928.48,"endTime":935.52,"body":"things. We can focus on team dynamics. We can focus "},{"startTime":928.48,"endTime":935.52,"body":"on you know shocking with the defibrillator and  "},{"startTime":935.52,"endTime":942.8,"body":"what's a shockable rhythm and things like that "},{"startTime":935.52,"endTime":942.8,"body":"instead of focusing all of our time on the BLS  "},{"startTime":942.8,"endTime":951.36,"body":"skills. And I will say that RQI does not replace "},{"startTime":942.8,"endTime":951.36,"body":"opportunities to practice as a team. You do it  "},{"startTime":951.36,"endTime":962.08,"body":"independently, yes, there are scenarios but until "},{"startTime":951.36,"endTime":962.08,"body":"you are working as a team you know you still...  "},{"startTime":962.08,"endTime":969.36,"body":"it doesn't replace that part... but we have "},{"startTime":962.08,"endTime":969.36,"body":"just rolled out mock codes that we run throughout  "},{"startTime":969.36,"endTime":976.4,"body":"the entire organization. And what we found was you "},{"startTime":969.36,"endTime":976.4,"body":"know, yeah, maybe the BLS skills need a little tweak  "},{"startTime":976.4,"endTime":980.88,"body":"here and there or something like that, but "},{"startTime":976.4,"endTime":980.88,"body":"for the most part the BLS skills were down  "},{"startTime":980.88,"endTime":987.12,"body":"and then we could focus on you know improving "},{"startTime":980.88,"endTime":987.12,"body":"shocking within the first two minutes, we could  "},{"startTime":987.12,"endTime":995.28,"body":"talk about more nuance things in a code that we "},{"startTime":987.12,"endTime":995.28,"body":"may not have been able to do before, and you know  "},{"startTime":995.28,"endTime":1000.8,"body":"that communication piece, the teamwork, all of that "},{"startTime":995.28,"endTime":1000.8,"body":"kind of stuff which we know is such a crucial part  "},{"startTime":1000.8,"endTime":1010.32,"body":"to a successful resuscitation and so that's been "},{"startTime":1000.8,"endTime":1010.32,"body":"you know our biggest outcome in our organization  "},{"startTime":1010.32,"endTime":1017.12,"body":"not to mention codes outside the,  outside of "},{"startTime":1010.32,"endTime":1017.12,"body":"the ICU are running more smoothly. And I believe  "},{"startTime":1017.12,"endTime":1024.8,"body":"part of that is due to RQI .Thank you for sharing "},{"startTime":1017.12,"endTime":1024.8,"body":"that. Yeah I do for sure. "},{"startTime":1040.4,"endTime":1051.52,"body":"You know, when nursing students are in clinical  "},{"startTime":1051.52,"endTime":1063.68,"body":"in our facilities if there is a code sometimes "},{"startTime":1051.52,"endTime":1063.68,"body":"it becomes the students need to back away  "},{"startTime":1063.68,"endTime":1073.36,"body":"and let the clinicians who are "},{"startTime":1063.68,"endTime":1073.36,"body":"there be the major participants in a code,  "},{"startTime":1073.36,"endTime":1082.48,"body":"and while that is still absolutely true, we did "},{"startTime":1073.36,"endTime":1082.48,"body":"have a clinical group of a couple of students  "},{"startTime":1082.48,"endTime":1093.2,"body":"who went in to assess a patient during clinical "},{"startTime":1082.48,"endTime":1093.2,"body":"they recognized that the patient was unresponsive  "},{"startTime":1093.2,"endTime":1104.96,"body":"and was pulseless and they began CPR. There were "},{"startTime":1093.2,"endTime":1104.96,"body":"some of their classmates right outside the door.  "},{"startTime":1104.96,"endTime":1115.6,"body":"They were able to alert the staff that there was "},{"startTime":1104.96,"endTime":1115.6,"body":"an issue and then the students were doing a great  "},{"startTime":1115.6,"endTime":1124.56,"body":"job on CPR once the once the staff got into the "},{"startTime":1115.6,"endTime":1124.56,"body":"room and so they allowed the students to continue  "},{"startTime":1124.56,"endTime":1134.88,"body":"doing chest compressions and after that was over "},{"startTime":1124.56,"endTime":1134.88,"body":"the patient went to the ICU. But later  "},{"startTime":1134.88,"endTime":1142.24,"body":"that week when they were in class the students "},{"startTime":1134.88,"endTime":1142.24,"body":"instructor saw me in the hallway going to class  "},{"startTime":1142.24,"endTime":1152.0,"body":"and she stopped me called those students over and "},{"startTime":1142.24,"endTime":1152.0,"body":"they were ecstatic that not only did they get that  "},{"startTime":1152.0,"endTime":1160.0,"body":"experience and they didn't have to leave the room "},{"startTime":1152.0,"endTime":1160.0,"body":"but that they were able to intervene early and  "},{"startTime":1160.0,"endTime":1169.6,"body":"effectively and they were very confident about "},{"startTime":1160.0,"endTime":1169.6,"body":"the skills that they had and they were so proud  "},{"startTime":1169.6,"endTime":1177.04,"body":"of themselves in knowing that they were giving "},{"startTime":1169.6,"endTime":1177.04,"body":"effective CPR. What a beautiful story because,  "},{"startTime":1177.04,"endTime":1181.36,"body":"like you said, so many times when students are in "},{"startTime":1177.04,"endTime":1181.36,"body":"a clinical any emergency happens they're getting  "},{"startTime":1181.36,"endTime":1185.12,"body":"kicked out of the room so the fact that they the "},{"startTime":1181.36,"endTime":1185.12,"body":"nurses came in and they saw them doing a wonderful  "},{"startTime":1185.12,"endTime":1190.32,"body":"job and said continue that. I could definitely "},{"startTime":1185.12,"endTime":1190.32,"body":"see as boosting the students confidence and it had  "},{"startTime":1190.32,"endTime":1195.44,"body":"a good outcome. The person made it and went to the "},{"startTime":1190.32,"endTime":1195.44,"body":"ICU hopefully they left the ICU. But thank you for  "},{"startTime":1195.44,"endTime":1201.36,"body":"sharing that story. That was very impactful. I "},{"startTime":1195.44,"endTime":1201.36,"body":"just got a story today actually. I was so excited. I  "},{"startTime":1201.36,"endTime":1208.32,"body":"was in a meeting and somebody shared a story that "},{"startTime":1201.36,"endTime":1208.32,"body":"I was like, I'm gonna use this this afternoon! But  "},{"startTime":1208.32,"endTime":1215.36,"body":"Kellie, you and I are both women's health nurses "},{"startTime":1208.32,"endTime":1215.36,"body":"by background, and yes, we did not practice CPR  "},{"startTime":1215.36,"endTime":1221.52,"body":"on a regular basis. We knew how to do CPR on a "},{"startTime":1215.36,"endTime":1221.52,"body":"baby, but not on an adult and so a colleague of  "},{"startTime":1221.52,"endTime":1229.52,"body":"mine, a bedside nurse here at our hospital, OB "},{"startTime":1221.52,"endTime":1229.52,"body":"nurse ended up getting rear ended leaving the  "},{"startTime":1229.52,"endTime":1235.28,"body":"hospital a few months ago by a gentleman "},{"startTime":1229.52,"endTime":1235.28,"body":"who was having a cardiac arrest at the wheel.  "},{"startTime":1235.28,"endTime":1240.56,"body":"And so she hopped out and realized that he "},{"startTime":1235.28,"endTime":1240.56,"body":"was in cardiac arrest and started, you know, called  "},{"startTime":1240.56,"endTime":1248.48,"body":"911 but started CPR on him and she tried to get "},{"startTime":1240.56,"endTime":1248.48,"body":"him out of the car but couldn't and so she did  "},{"startTime":1248.48,"endTime":1258.24,"body":"it right there in his seat in the car and and she "},{"startTime":1248.48,"endTime":1258.24,"body":"did it until help arrived. He went to the hospital  "},{"startTime":1258.24,"endTime":1266.4,"body":"and actually she's being recognized in a couple "},{"startTime":1258.24,"endTime":1266.4,"body":"of weeks by our EMS. Our county EMS system they do  "},{"startTime":1266.4,"endTime":1272.8,"body":"a ceremony for survivors and for the the people "},{"startTime":1266.4,"endTime":1272.8,"body":"who saved them and so she gets to be honored at  "},{"startTime":1272.8,"endTime":1278.0,"body":"that. She was telling us this story today but she "},{"startTime":1272.8,"endTime":1278.0,"body":"attributed it to doing RQI because she said, \"I'm  "},{"startTime":1278.0,"endTime":1285.84,"body":"an OB nurse we don't do CPR on adults very often.\" "},{"startTime":1278.0,"endTime":1285.84,"body":"And if ever in our career and but she said but I  "},{"startTime":1285.84,"endTime":1292.24,"body":"knew from RQI what I was supposed to do and so I "},{"startTime":1285.84,"endTime":1292.24,"body":"was able to do it and and save this person, which  "},{"startTime":1292.24,"endTime":1298.08,"body":"is just so cool. Beautiful! Another beautiful story! "},{"startTime":1292.24,"endTime":1298.08,"body":"And perfect timing for our podcast. Yeah, exactly.  "},{"startTime":1298.08,"endTime":1303.44,"body":"And those are amazing stories and to me, while "},{"startTime":1298.08,"endTime":1303.44,"body":"listening to everything that you were saying, it's  "},{"startTime":1303.44,"endTime":1310.8,"body":"really about the patient outcomes in the end, right. "},{"startTime":1303.44,"endTime":1310.8,"body":"Yes, we appreciate that our learners have knocked  "},{"startTime":1310.8,"endTime":1317.6,"body":"that down skills-wise so that they can move on to "},{"startTime":1310.8,"endTime":1317.6,"body":"a higher level of thinking or decision making, but  "},{"startTime":1317.6,"endTime":1324.24,"body":"in the end, like it's really very gratifying "},{"startTime":1317.6,"endTime":1324.24,"body":"to see that what we do, the innovations that we  "},{"startTime":1324.24,"endTime":1334.863,"body":"do as educators, are really impacting lives and "},{"startTime":1324.24,"endTime":1334.863,"body":"patients. That's just amazing to hear."},{"startTime":1334.863,"endTime":1343.12,"body":"Both of you I would call super users or champions "},{"startTime":1334.863,"endTime":1343.12,"body":"of RQI. Is it a lot of manpower, a lot of work to  "},{"startTime":1343.12,"endTime":1350.0,"body":"get the system up and running and tracking all "},{"startTime":1343.12,"endTime":1350.0,"body":"the learners? How much of your time does it take?"},{"startTime":1350.0,"endTime":1359.76,"body":"From an academic standpoint I would say "},{"startTime":1350.0,"endTime":1359.76,"body":"that it's somewhat minimal. We have a system  "},{"startTime":1359.76,"endTime":1372.32,"body":"administrator who inputs new learners, which for us, "},{"startTime":1359.76,"endTime":1372.32,"body":"that's every semester. And so that probably takes  "},{"startTime":1372.32,"endTime":1382.8,"body":"most of the time, but the students are responsible "},{"startTime":1372.32,"endTime":1382.8,"body":"for uploading certificates and that sort of thing.  "},{"startTime":1382.8,"endTime":1390.4,"body":"For us, I am not the one that manages our RQI. We have a wonderful educator that does and we were  "},{"startTime":1390.4,"endTime":1399.52,"body":"chatting about it earlier today and she was saying "},{"startTime":1390.4,"endTime":1399.52,"body":"the overall lift is not what it was when they  "},{"startTime":1399.52,"endTime":1406.4,"body":"were teaching classes non-stop. You still have to "},{"startTime":1399.52,"endTime":1406.4,"body":"maintain manikins. You still have to maintain  "},{"startTime":1406.4,"endTime":1412.96,"body":"the carts, make sure that they're operational. You "},{"startTime":1406.4,"endTime":1412.96,"body":"know, the company is great about replacing skins  "},{"startTime":1412.96,"endTime":1420.72,"body":"and things like that, but just so people know "},{"startTime":1412.96,"endTime":1420.72,"body":"there is maintenance involved and then also  "},{"startTime":1420.72,"endTime":1426.08,"body":"there's some backend work depending on what type "},{"startTime":1420.72,"endTime":1426.08,"body":"of learning management system you have. It's not  "},{"startTime":1426.08,"endTime":1434.24,"body":"always perfectly seamless from..."},{"startTime":1426.08,"endTime":1434.24,"body":"RQI to learning management system, but what  "},{"startTime":1434.24,"endTime":1442.8,"body":"she said is that, you know, me working a little "},{"startTime":1434.24,"endTime":1442.8,"body":"bit harder versus the satisfaction of our staff  "},{"startTime":1442.8,"endTime":1450.08,"body":"and the competency of our staff staff, you know, the "},{"startTime":1442.8,"endTime":1450.08,"body":"the risk far outweighs the benefit or the benefit  "},{"startTime":1450.08,"endTime":1459.2,"body":"far outweighs the risk with that one. So yeah. "},{"startTime":1450.08,"endTime":1459.2,"body":"There is some backend work to be done. But it's  "},{"startTime":1459.2,"endTime":1464.0,"body":"well worth it, like you said. I mean, when it comes "},{"startTime":1459.2,"endTime":1464.0,"body":"to patient safety and quality of CPR, you can't  "},{"startTime":1464.0,"endTime":1469.68,"body":"even put a number, you know, and measure that. But "},{"startTime":1464.0,"endTime":1469.68,"body":"then on the other end, what you were saying is it  "},{"startTime":1469.68,"endTime":1475.04,"body":"in some ways could be less time consuming than you "},{"startTime":1469.68,"endTime":1475.04,"body":"know, like I used to be a course coordinator of  "},{"startTime":1475.04,"endTime":1482.0,"body":"tracking down people, photocopying, uploading these "},{"startTime":1475.04,"endTime":1482.0,"body":"CPR cards, and also I believe the system will send  "},{"startTime":1482.0,"endTime":1488.32,"body":"reminders too, automatically to the learners "},{"startTime":1482.0,"endTime":1488.32,"body":"to let them know..."},{"startTime":1488.32,"endTime":1494.4,"body":"I'm due next or in a week and a couple of days. "},{"startTime":1488.32,"endTime":1494.4,"body":"So I'm already getting my reminder that it's  "},{"startTime":1494.4,"endTime":1499.68,"body":"time. Well we're going to be getting our system "},{"startTime":1494.4,"endTime":1499.68,"body":"in a couple weeks from Laerdal so we're really excited  "},{"startTime":1499.68,"endTime":1504.24,"body":"because it's perfect timing. My CPR's expired "},{"startTime":1499.68,"endTime":1504.24,"body":"so I can't wait to use it firsthand myself. "},{"startTime":1504.24,"endTime":1509.28,"body":"Any...I know we only have a couple minutes left "},{"startTime":1504.24,"endTime":1509.28,"body":"but I just wanted to end with this last question.  "},{"startTime":1509.28,"endTime":1514.88,"body":"For those out there, whether it's an academic "},{"startTime":1509.28,"endTime":1514.88,"body":"institution or or a hospital medical center who  "},{"startTime":1514.88,"endTime":1520.88,"body":"are kind of thinking about incorporating RQI into "},{"startTime":1514.88,"endTime":1520.88,"body":"their organizations, any tips or pearls of wisdom  "},{"startTime":1520.88,"endTime":1527.92,"body":"that you can give someone who may be thinking "},{"startTime":1520.88,"endTime":1527.92,"body":"about incorporating RQI? So I know one thing that  "},{"startTime":1527.92,"endTime":1532.64,"body":"when we rolled it out the staff were concerned "},{"startTime":1527.92,"endTime":1532.64,"body":"about how much time it was going to take them  "},{"startTime":1532.64,"endTime":1538.64,"body":"because when you say quarterly when it's only been "},{"startTime":1532.64,"endTime":1538.64,"body":"every two years, the immediate thought is taking  "},{"startTime":1538.64,"endTime":1545.52,"body":"the two-year course and applying it quarterly. "},{"startTime":1538.64,"endTime":1545.52,"body":"And it is of course not that, but there can be  "},{"startTime":1545.52,"endTime":1553.12,"body":"push back initially. And so being able to share "},{"startTime":1545.52,"endTime":1553.12,"body":"some of these success stories and explaining to  "},{"startTime":1553.12,"endTime":1560.88,"body":"to staff and you know what it's going to look "},{"startTime":1553.12,"endTime":1560.88,"body":"like for them. I know our hospital took the carts  "},{"startTime":1560.88,"endTime":1566.08,"body":"out to different units, to staff meetings, to things "},{"startTime":1560.88,"endTime":1566.08,"body":"like that ahead of time so that they could see how  "},{"startTime":1566.08,"endTime":1572.56,"body":"easy it was going to be and that in the end it was "},{"startTime":1566.08,"endTime":1572.56,"body":"going to save them time and improve their skills.  "},{"startTime":1572.56,"endTime":1579.52,"body":"And so there may be that concern about that push "},{"startTime":1572.56,"endTime":1579.52,"body":"back, but there are ways of, you know, working  "},{"startTime":1579.52,"endTime":1590.16,"body":"around that. And I'll echo what Sarah said about "},{"startTime":1579.52,"endTime":1590.16,"body":"communication. From an academic standpoint, we make  "},{"startTime":1590.16,"endTime":1599.04,"body":"sure that we tell the students what to expect "},{"startTime":1590.16,"endTime":1599.04,"body":"before we enroll them in RQI, because as Sarah  "},{"startTime":1599.04,"endTime":1606.16,"body":"said earlier, RQI is very, very good about sending "},{"startTime":1599.04,"endTime":1606.16,"body":"reminders and reaching out to to students like  "},{"startTime":1606.16,"endTime":1613.68,"body":"it's an automatic response and so as soon as you "},{"startTime":1606.16,"endTime":1613.68,"body":"enroll those students they will automatically get  "},{"startTime":1613.68,"endTime":1621.36,"body":"an email. And if you have worked with students "},{"startTime":1613.68,"endTime":1621.36,"body":"that are in that first semester where they're  "},{"startTime":1621.36,"endTime":1628.56,"body":"already overwhelmed with information, if they don't "},{"startTime":1621.36,"endTime":1628.56,"body":"know to look for that, they can get confused and  "},{"startTime":1628.56,"endTime":1634.4,"body":"and kind of have a panic moment that they've "},{"startTime":1628.56,"endTime":1634.4,"body":"forgotten something or didn't know about it.  "},{"startTime":1634.4,"endTime":1645.04,"body":"So just that clear communication with students "},{"startTime":1634.4,"endTime":1645.04,"body":"about - you will receive an email about - and just  "},{"startTime":1645.04,"endTime":1656.0,"body":"preventing that confusion if you can. Wow, that 20 "},{"startTime":1645.04,"endTime":1656.0,"body":"plus minutes went by so quickly! I just want to end  "},{"startTime":1656.0,"endTime":1662.56,"body":"by thanking both of you.
