She is a professor  "},{"startTime":60.64,"endTime":69.04,"body":"at Salisbury University she is the director of "},{"startTime":60.64,"endTime":69.04,"body":"the FAMI and I will have her to spell that out  "},{"startTime":69.04,"endTime":76.0,"body":"and talk to you about it and our conversation for "},{"startTime":69.04,"endTime":76.0,"body":"today is a very interesting one and we are going  "},{"startTime":76.0,"endTime":85.36,"body":"to go into conversations of faculty mentoring and "},{"startTime":76.0,"endTime":85.36,"body":"of course the ongoing nursing workforce shortage  "},{"startTime":85.36,"endTime":94.24,"body":"that has affected not just Maryland but the entire "},{"startTime":85.36,"endTime":94.24,"body":"country. So welcome Lisa. Thank you so much. I'm  "},{"startTime":94.24,"endTime":102.96,"body":"happy to be here so let's go ahead and dive right "},{"startTime":94.24,"endTime":102.96,"body":"in into this interesting conversation really just  "},{"startTime":102.96,"endTime":112.4,"body":"kind of explore what is going on with nursing "},{"startTime":102.96,"endTime":112.4,"body":"workforce shortage and faculty mentoring so if  "},{"startTime":112.4,"endTime":120.64,"body":"you could share with us your current initiative of "},{"startTime":112.4,"endTime":120.64,"body":"faculty mentoring and tell us how that all started  "},{"startTime":120.64,"endTime":129.28,"body":"and where are you at this point. Okay well I "},{"startTime":120.64,"endTime":129.28,"body":"am at Salisbury University in Maryland and  "},{"startTime":129.28,"endTime":136.08,"body":"we are located on a peninsula called the "},{"startTime":129.28,"endTime":136.08,"body":"Eastern Shore of Maryland and even though people  "},{"startTime":136.08,"endTime":142.8,"body":"may not think of us as being somewhat isolated "},{"startTime":136.08,"endTime":142.8,"body":"and rural we have the Chesapeake Bay between  "},{"startTime":142.8,"endTime":150.96,"body":"us and Baltimore Washington corridor and we have "},{"startTime":142.8,"endTime":150.96,"body":"for over a decade been experiencing a shortage in  "},{"startTime":150.96,"endTime":159.84,"body":"nursing faculty and in particular clinical faculty "},{"startTime":150.96,"endTime":159.84,"body":"individuals who are interested in some kind of  "},{"startTime":159.84,"endTime":169.76,"body":"part-time teaching initiative or gig we call it. "},{"startTime":159.84,"endTime":169.76,"body":"And so this initiative, the Faculty academy and  "},{"startTime":169.76,"endTime":180.0,"body":"Mentorship Initiative of Maryland, which we call "},{"startTime":169.76,"endTime":180.0,"body":"FAMI-MD, actually began in 2011 as a collaboration  "},{"startTime":180.0,"endTime":188.0,"body":"between our university a local community college "},{"startTime":180.0,"endTime":188.0,"body":"and a historically black college and university.  "},{"startTime":188.0,"endTime":194.88,"body":"And it was very much centered around how we "},{"startTime":188.0,"endTime":194.88,"body":"could work together to meet our own needs for  "},{"startTime":194.88,"endTime":204.72,"body":"clinical faculty. We were finding actually that we "},{"startTime":194.88,"endTime":204.72,"body":"were sharing people across the employment setting  "},{"startTime":204.72,"endTime":213.68,"body":"and we also were noticing that the folks who "},{"startTime":204.72,"endTime":213.68,"body":"were expert clinicians who really had in their  "},{"startTime":213.68,"endTime":219.68,"body":"heart a desire to teach needed some more skills "},{"startTime":213.68,"endTime":219.68,"body":"and they needed more knowledge and they needed  "},{"startTime":219.68,"endTime":228.0,"body":"support and we thought you know we can do this "},{"startTime":219.68,"endTime":228.0,"body":"together. And that's really how it began. In 2011  "},{"startTime":228.56,"endTime":236.08,"body":"we wrote a grant proposal to the Maryland Higher "},{"startTime":228.56,"endTime":236.08,"body":"Education Commission they have a program called  "},{"startTime":236.08,"endTime":243.84,"body":"the Nurse Support 2 program and we received "},{"startTime":236.08,"endTime":243.84,"body":"a four-year grant to get our program started.  "},{"startTime":245.04,"endTime":250.16,"body":"And I'll stop there for a second. I don't know if "},{"startTime":245.04,"endTime":250.16,"body":"you have another particular question or I should  "},{"startTime":250.16,"endTime":257.44,"body":"keep rolling on because there's been a lot of "},{"startTime":250.16,"endTime":257.44,"body":"water under the bridge since 2011. No, I think  "},{"startTime":257.44,"endTime":261.92,"body":"you should continue tell us some of the components "},{"startTime":257.44,"endTime":261.92,"body":"of this FAMI. It's called FAMI, I want to make sure  "},{"startTime":261.92,"endTime":266.96,"body":"I'm pronouncing it correctly. Tell us some of the "},{"startTime":261.92,"endTime":266.96,"body":"components. What did your learners, what did they  "},{"startTime":266.96,"endTime":273.2,"body":"receive in this program? Yeah, so thanks for that's "},{"startTime":266.96,"endTime":273.2,"body":"a great question. So when we started the program  "},{"startTime":273.2,"endTime":284.24,"body":"our plan was to design a curriculum and deliver "},{"startTime":273.2,"endTime":284.24,"body":"that through teaching teams or facilitator teams  "},{"startTime":284.24,"endTime":289.84,"body":"that represented each of those three entities. We really wanted sort of a blended ... we didn't  "},{"startTime":289.84,"endTime":295.92,"body":"want it to be the Salisbury version or in "},{"startTime":289.84,"endTime":295.92,"body":"that time it was Sojourner Douglass College  "},{"startTime":295.92,"endTime":302.4,"body":"was our partner, so we had representatives from "},{"startTime":295.92,"endTime":302.4,"body":"each of the three and we were calling ourselves  "},{"startTime":302.4,"endTime":309.76,"body":"facilitators because we wanted to establish this "},{"startTime":302.4,"endTime":309.76,"body":"collegial environment where we were welcoming  "},{"startTime":309.76,"endTime":318.88,"body":"these expert nurses into the fold, you know, as "},{"startTime":309.76,"endTime":318.88,"body":"new educators and as colleagues. So in those  "},{"startTime":318.88,"endTime":325.52,"body":"days we were not as skilled at delivering things "},{"startTime":318.88,"endTime":325.52,"body":"online and so we actually were meeting in person  "},{"startTime":326.48,"endTime":336.0,"body":"and developed this curriculum which was really "},{"startTime":326.48,"endTime":336.0,"body":"designed to keep to give people kind of, oh, I  "},{"startTime":336.0,"endTime":341.68,"body":"don't know, sort of a broad brush, a bird's eye view "},{"startTime":336.0,"endTime":341.68,"body":"of some of the things that they might need to know  "},{"startTime":341.68,"endTime":348.0,"body":"to be successful. Things like, you know, curriculum "},{"startTime":341.68,"endTime":348.0,"body":"designs and what were the differences between our  "},{"startTime":348.0,"endTime":357.6,"body":"three programs. And remember we were doing this "},{"startTime":348.0,"endTime":357.6,"body":"very much in self-serving way, and you know, what  "},{"startTime":357.6,"endTime":367.12,"body":"was the difference in terms of program outcomes "},{"startTime":357.6,"endTime":367.12,"body":"versus course outcomes and in some cases we had  "},{"startTime":367.12,"endTime":374.32,"body":"clinical outcomes and then we had theory course "},{"startTime":367.12,"endTime":374.32,"body":"outcomes. So how do all those things, you know, align?  "},{"startTime":374.32,"endTime":379.84,"body":"We talked about accreditation, the difference in "},{"startTime":374.32,"endTime":379.84,"body":"accreditation standards, the different professional  "},{"startTime":379.84,"endTime":385.12,"body":"standards that we use to guide our programs and "},{"startTime":379.84,"endTime":385.12,"body":"then we really rolled up our sleeves and got  "},{"startTime":385.12,"endTime":391.44,"body":"into I think sort of probably for our learners "},{"startTime":385.12,"endTime":391.44,"body":"more interesting things like what are the legal  "},{"startTime":391.44,"endTime":399.04,"body":"aspects that you need to consider, how do you "},{"startTime":391.44,"endTime":399.04,"body":"set expectations for your students in terms  "},{"startTime":399.04,"endTime":409.76,"body":"of you know your response time to them or you know "},{"startTime":399.04,"endTime":409.76,"body":"expectations for contacting you if for some reason  "},{"startTime":409.76,"endTime":416.64,"body":"they couldn't come to a clinical experience. How do "},{"startTime":409.76,"endTime":416.64,"body":"you even set up a clinical experience? How do you  "},{"startTime":416.64,"endTime":425.6,"body":"identify patient care experiences? And we were "},{"startTime":416.64,"endTime":425.6,"body":"also trying to be mindful of you know having  "},{"startTime":425.6,"endTime":432.64,"body":"meaning across clinical settings so not just for a "},{"startTime":425.6,"endTime":432.64,"body":"hospital-based how do you keep track of your eight  "},{"startTime":432.64,"endTime":440.8,"body":"or 10 students you know when you may have ranked "},{"startTime":432.64,"endTime":440.8,"body":"novices who need quite a bit of your attention.  "},{"startTime":441.6,"endTime":448.96,"body":"What's the difference between how you teach people "},{"startTime":441.6,"endTime":448.96,"body":"effectively in the cognitive domain versus the  "},{"startTime":448.96,"endTime":456.32,"body":"psychomotor domain versus affective domain? How do "},{"startTime":448.96,"endTime":456.32,"body":"you foster critical thinking in a clinical setting?  "},{"startTime":456.32,"endTime":464.56,"body":"And I could go on and on but we really we wanted "},{"startTime":456.32,"endTime":464.56,"body":"to give people you know very practical, practical  "},{"startTime":464.56,"endTime":471.6,"body":"information and you know as I said kind of create "},{"startTime":464.56,"endTime":471.6,"body":"a community where we weren't putting ourselves up  "},{"startTime":471.6,"endTime":479.04,"body":"on pedestals as experts, but we were there to all "},{"startTime":471.6,"endTime":479.04,"body":"learn from one another. So then time rolled on and  "},{"startTime":479.84,"endTime":487.84,"body":"the first grant came to a close. We were extremely "},{"startTime":479.84,"endTime":487.84,"body":"successful and the Maryland Higher Education  "},{"startTime":487.84,"endTime":493.04,"body":"Commission came back to us and said you know this "},{"startTime":487.84,"endTime":493.04,"body":"model seems to really be working well for you,  "},{"startTime":493.04,"endTime":500.24,"body":"Would you be interested in writing a continuation "},{"startTime":493.04,"endTime":500.24,"body":"grant and taking it across the state? And we said  "},{"startTime":500.24,"endTime":510.64,"body":"of course we are! So then that's exactly what we "},{"startTime":500.24,"endTime":510.64,"body":"did again. We were still in a face-to-face delivery  "},{"startTime":510.64,"endTime":519.36,"body":"for most. We had some online learning activities "},{"startTime":510.64,"endTime":519.36,"body":"that the participants would do in between our  "},{"startTime":519.36,"endTime":525.44,"body":"meeting times and we would meet about every two "},{"startTime":519.36,"endTime":525.44,"body":"weeks and we also wanted to be mindful of the fact  "},{"startTime":525.44,"endTime":531.28,"body":"that these were working professionals. They were "},{"startTime":525.44,"endTime":531.28,"body":"doing this training on you know kind of their own  "},{"startTime":531.28,"endTime":541.12,"body":"time around their regular work schedule so we had "},{"startTime":531.28,"endTime":541.12,"body":"I believe at that time we had three face-to-face  "},{"startTime":541.12,"endTime":547.36,"body":"meetings. And we essentially took our show on the "},{"startTime":541.12,"endTime":547.36,"body":"road. So we had a location on the Eastern Shore  "},{"startTime":547.36,"endTime":553.04,"body":"of Maryland, we had a location more centrally in "},{"startTime":547.36,"endTime":553.04,"body":"Baltimore, and then we had another location out  "},{"startTime":553.04,"endTime":561.84,"body":"in western Maryland. A couple of things just to "},{"startTime":553.04,"endTime":561.84,"body":"add to that. So we began integrating simulations.  "},{"startTime":561.84,"endTime":568.8,"body":"I know, Raquel, you would love that because part of "},{"startTime":561.84,"endTime":568.8,"body":"what we wanted to do was give our participants an  "},{"startTime":568.8,"endTime":575.84,"body":"opportunity to work through in real time some "},{"startTime":568.8,"endTime":575.84,"body":"of the kinds of situations they might find  "},{"startTime":575.84,"endTime":582.48,"body":"themselves in, have an opportunity to get some peer "},{"startTime":575.84,"endTime":582.48,"body":"feedback, and have an opportunity to have a do-over,  "},{"startTime":582.48,"endTime":589.76,"body":"you know to kind of reconsider maybe an "},{"startTime":582.48,"endTime":589.76,"body":"approach. And so we did that kind of thing using  "},{"startTime":589.76,"endTime":597.12,"body":"you know trained actors and then used different "},{"startTime":589.76,"endTime":597.12,"body":"simulation facilities around the state. The other  "},{"startTime":597.12,"endTime":603.84,"body":"thing just that I skipped over in the beginning, "},{"startTime":597.12,"endTime":603.84,"body":"but I did want to just go back to is we really had  "},{"startTime":604.56,"endTime":612.48,"body":"four main objectives and those objectives have "},{"startTime":604.56,"endTime":612.48,"body":"continued over this 12, no more than that 14-year  "},{"startTime":612.48,"endTime":620.56,"body":"period that we've been running this. The number "},{"startTime":612.48,"endTime":620.56,"body":"one of course was to increase the number of  "},{"startTime":620.56,"endTime":630.0,"body":"faculty who were available for open positions "},{"startTime":620.56,"endTime":630.0,"body":"in the state ... by providing this training.  "},{"startTime":630.0,"endTime":636.48,"body":"Number two was we wanted to increase the number "},{"startTime":630.0,"endTime":636.48,"body":"of trained individuals from under represented  "},{"startTime":636.48,"endTime":642.88,"body":"groups because we looked around and we said you "},{"startTime":636.48,"endTime":642.88,"body":"know we have not made enough progress in terms of  "},{"startTime":642.88,"endTime":648.32,"body":"diversity of our faculty workforce. Our students "},{"startTime":642.88,"endTime":648.32,"body":"are getting more diverse but we are not and so  "},{"startTime":648.32,"endTime":658.0,"body":"we want to be much more intentional about that. We "},{"startTime":648.32,"endTime":658.0,"body":"were interested in prioritizing the training to  "},{"startTime":658.0,"endTime":667.76,"body":"help us staff particular clinical areas where we "},{"startTime":658.0,"endTime":667.76,"body":"were all struggling. Not surprisingly, it was OB,  "},{"startTime":667.76,"endTime":676.64,"body":"peds, psych, mental health, those were, those "},{"startTime":667.76,"endTime":676.64,"body":"were our top and then our you know other sort  "},{"startTime":676.64,"endTime":683.92,"body":"of not so secret mission was to encourage folks "},{"startTime":676.64,"endTime":683.92,"body":"who had completed our program to advance their  "},{"startTime":683.92,"endTime":691.36,"body":"education either through advanced certifications "},{"startTime":683.92,"endTime":691.36,"body":"or advanced degrees. Again, just trying to have a  "},{"startTime":691.36,"endTime":701.12,"body":"better prepared, better educated faculty workforce. "},{"startTime":691.36,"endTime":701.12,"body":"So yeah, and I was actually very curious earlier  "},{"startTime":701.12,"endTime":708.24,"body":"when you said that you were very successful "},{"startTime":701.12,"endTime":708.24,"body":"and you were actually offered by the higher  "},{"startTime":708.24,"endTime":716.08,"body":"education commission to have a continuation grant. "},{"startTime":708.24,"endTime":716.08,"body":"And after hearing you kind of like enumerate your  "},{"startTime":716.08,"endTime":727.2,"body":"goals right or your like apparent and hidden "},{"startTime":716.08,"endTime":727.2,"body":"intent. So I'm curious at this point, like 14  "},{"startTime":727.2,"endTime":735.84,"body":"years fast forward. So I'm curious to see like "},{"startTime":727.2,"endTime":735.84,"body":"are there, are you filling of faculty  "},{"startTime":735.84,"endTime":744.88,"body":"positions in your area or in the state? Have "},{"startTime":735.84,"endTime":744.88,"body":"you seen an increase in diversity of our  "},{"startTime":744.88,"endTime":754.48,"body":"faculty population or the clinical educators"},{"startTime":744.88,"endTime":754.48,"body":"and all that? So what's the current picture of,  "},{"startTime":754.48,"endTime":763.6,"body":"I would say, all these goals and what you have "},{"startTime":754.48,"endTime":763.6,"body":"achieved? Yeah, thank you. Great question. So we  "},{"startTime":763.6,"endTime":775.04,"body":"to date have 650 graduates. 73% of them have taken "},{"startTime":763.6,"endTime":775.04,"body":"some kind of teaching job, teaching assignment for ...  "},{"startTime":775.04,"endTime":781.28,"body":"and this is part of what I'm most proud of, I "},{"startTime":775.04,"endTime":781.28,"body":"mean, three quarters of them are helping fill the  "},{"startTime":781.28,"endTime":789.44,"body":"positions and our graduates are working at every "},{"startTime":781.28,"endTime":789.44,"body":"single nursing program in the state of Maryland.  "},{"startTime":789.44,"endTime":796.96,"body":"So what started as you know a very local thing to "},{"startTime":789.44,"endTime":796.96,"body":"meet our own needs has now really expanded the  "},{"startTime":796.96,"endTime":804.72,"body":"you know the pool of available faculty to meet "},{"startTime":796.96,"endTime":804.72,"body":"the needs across the state. 43% of our graduates  "},{"startTime":804.72,"endTime":812.16,"body":"come from underrepresented groups and so that for "},{"startTime":804.72,"endTime":812.16,"body":"us is defined as racial and ethnic minorities and  "},{"startTime":812.16,"endTime":820.72,"body":"men and about a third of them come from those "},{"startTime":812.16,"endTime":820.72,"body":"high need clinical specialties that I mentioned  "},{"startTime":820.72,"endTime":830.0,"body":"before. So that's the picture to date and we "},{"startTime":820.72,"endTime":830.0,"body":"keep on raising the bar for ourselves. Right, and  "},{"startTime":830.0,"endTime":838.32,"body":"that sounds really wonderful and that "},{"startTime":830.0,"endTime":838.32,"body":"is a challenge that Maryland. Not only Maryland  "},{"startTime":838.32,"endTime":848.24,"body":"encounters, but I think of course all across the "},{"startTime":838.32,"endTime":848.24,"body":"board. So I also heard you say, well, we've been  "},{"startTime":848.24,"endTime":857.28,"body":"using simulation methodologies to educate the "},{"startTime":848.24,"endTime":857.28,"body":"educators and yeah of course we love that right  "},{"startTime":857.28,"endTime":863.36,"body":"and I, we love everything simulation right so any "},{"startTime":857.28,"endTime":863.36,"body":"anything that has something to do with simulations  "},{"startTime":863.36,"endTime":870.08,"body":"because we know it's a very powerful learning "},{"startTime":863.36,"endTime":870.08,"body":"methodology. So if our educators experience it  "},{"startTime":870.08,"endTime":880.24,"body":"firsthand so hopefully they can get buy into "},{"startTime":870.08,"endTime":880.24,"body":"using that as well in their teaching. So other than  "},{"startTime":880.24,"endTime":889.28,"body":"simulations, what current delivery modalities have "},{"startTime":880.24,"endTime":889.28,"body":"you been using to kind of like impart what are  "},{"startTime":889.28,"endTime":896.16,"body":"future educators or even current educators need "},{"startTime":889.28,"endTime":896.16,"body":"as far as competencies are concerned? So I heard  "},{"startTime":896.16,"endTime":906.64,"body":"simulations, so I heard face to face, but currently "},{"startTime":896.16,"endTime":906.64,"body":"how are you programming your instructional  "},{"startTime":906.64,"endTime":914.16,"body":"design is pretty much what I'm curious about. "},{"startTime":906.64,"endTime":914.16,"body":"Yeah, so you know this is one of those things  "},{"startTime":914.16,"endTime":927.04,"body":"that actually the pandemic helped us with a lot. "},{"startTime":914.16,"endTime":927.04,"body":"We needed of course to pivot to distance delivery  "},{"startTime":927.04,"endTime":936.08,"body":"of the FAMI program during the pandemic and that "},{"startTime":927.04,"endTime":936.08,"body":"actually created a wonderful opportunity for us  "},{"startTime":936.08,"endTime":943.76,"body":"that instead of, as I said, taking our show "},{"startTime":936.08,"endTime":943.76,"body":"on the road we transitioned everything to  "},{"startTime":943.76,"endTime":950.64,"body":"hybrid learning. so we had some online modules, "},{"startTime":943.76,"endTime":950.64,"body":"which were, I wouldn't call them self-study. They  "},{"startTime":950.64,"endTime":957.2,"body":"were people go through this program as a cohort. "},{"startTime":950.64,"endTime":957.2,"body":"So we take between 10 and 15 people at a time.  "},{"startTime":957.2,"endTime":963.12,"body":"They have ... they're committing to a six-week period "},{"startTime":957.2,"endTime":963.12,"body":"and during that six week period there are online  "},{"startTime":963.12,"endTime":970.56,"body":"modules and a variety of things that you know "},{"startTime":963.12,"endTime":970.56,"body":"you might expect. So you know, case studies and  "},{"startTime":970.56,"endTime":980.72,"body":"discussion boards and you know various kinds of "},{"startTime":970.56,"endTime":980.72,"body":"assignments. And then we come together about every  "},{"startTime":980.72,"endTime":990.4,"body":"two weeks for Zoom meetings and those sessions "},{"startTime":980.72,"endTime":990.4,"body":"are I guess fairly intense. We do ask people for  "},{"startTime":990.4,"endTime":997.04,"body":"about a four hour time block and that's our time to "},{"startTime":990.4,"endTime":997.04,"body":"build community. That's the way in which you know  "},{"startTime":997.04,"endTime":1006.96,"body":"we're delivering our simulations. We, of course, were "},{"startTime":997.04,"endTime":1006.96,"body":"you know, immersed during the pandemic in terms of,  "},{"startTime":1006.96,"endTime":1013.92,"body":"well, how can we make clinical type experiences "},{"startTime":1006.96,"endTime":1013.92,"body":"happen when you know we weren't often able to  "},{"startTime":1013.92,"endTime":1020.16,"body":"even be in clinical agencies? And so you know, "},{"startTime":1013.92,"endTime":1020.16,"body":"all the kinds of things that we did you  "},{"startTime":1020.16,"endTime":1028.72,"body":"know during the pandemic got introduced into our "},{"startTime":1020.16,"endTime":1028.72,"body":"curriculum as other kinds of learning strategies.  "},{"startTime":1028.72,"endTime":1037.76,"body":"So those you know have remained and that model of six weeks time. It's 40 contact hours,  "},{"startTime":1038.48,"endTime":1045.52,"body":"you know about two weeks to do the online and "},{"startTime":1038.48,"endTime":1045.52,"body":"engage with your colleagues come together have  "},{"startTime":1045.52,"endTime":1052.96,"body":"our sessions, which are you know again focused "},{"startTime":1045.52,"endTime":1052.96,"body":"conversations around topics simulations and  "},{"startTime":1052.96,"endTime":1059.12,"body":"then ending up with what we call our sort of "},{"startTime":1052.96,"endTime":1059.12,"body":"mentoring night, which setting the stage for like  "},{"startTime":1059.12,"endTime":1067.36,"body":"what's next. So our participants, because we have "},{"startTime":1059.12,"endTime":1067.36,"body":"continued to be grant funded, we are able to pay  "},{"startTime":1067.36,"endTime":1076.24,"body":"them an honorarium for their time. It's $1,000 and "},{"startTime":1067.36,"endTime":1076.24,"body":"you know on the one hand that sounds like a lot. And NP school doesn't  "},{"startTime":1334.56,"endTime":1339.6,"body":"teach us how to create syllabus, how to create "},{"startTime":1334.56,"endTime":1339.6,"body":"test questions, how to put a curriculum together.  "},{"startTime":1339.6,"endTime":1344.56,"body":"So that's why I think it's so important that we "},{"startTime":1339.6,"endTime":1344.56,"body":"have more of these type of faculty mentorship  "},{"startTime":1344.56,"endTime":1348.96,"body":"programs, particularly for people who do not have "},{"startTime":1344.56,"endTime":1348.96,"body":"a background a nursing education. So my question  "},{"startTime":1348.96,"endTime":1354.56,"body":"is, you have great outcomes. This has been a very "},{"startTime":1348.96,"endTime":1354.56,"body":"successful program. Have you have had any thoughts  "},{"startTime":1354.56,"endTime":1360.88,"body":"about ways that we can scale this program so "},{"startTime":1354.56,"endTime":1360.88,"body":"it can be duplicated in other cities or states or  "},{"startTime":1360.88,"endTime":1368.4,"body":"has it been already done in other states? Yeah, so "},{"startTime":1360.88,"endTime":1368.4,"body":"great question because every time of course you  "},{"startTime":1368.4,"endTime":1374.88,"body":"write a grant they want to know sustainability "},{"startTime":1368.4,"endTime":1374.88,"body":"and scalability. Exactly. Yeah, no, it's a terrific  "},{"startTime":1374.88,"endTime":1384.0,"body":"question. So kind of, interestingly enough, when we "},{"startTime":1374.88,"endTime":1384.0,"body":"very first started of course you know we scoured  "},{"startTime":1384.0,"endTime":1389.68,"body":"the internet because we thought certainly there "},{"startTime":1384.0,"endTime":1389.68,"body":"must be something out there already that we can  "},{"startTime":1389.68,"endTime":1397.52,"body":"build upon and we actually did find a "},{"startTime":1389.68,"endTime":1397.52,"body":"wonderful curriculum that was put together  "},{"startTime":1398.08,"endTime":1406.08,"body":"in, as it's (MidHealth Alliance of Kansas "},{"startTime":1398.08,"endTime":1406.08,"body":"City) and it was a collaboration between  "},{"startTime":1406.08,"endTime":1414.4,"body":"a couple schools of nursing and a large  medical "},{"startTime":1406.08,"endTime":1414.4,"body":"center there. Their curriculum was available for  "},{"startTime":1414.4,"endTime":1422.48,"body":"purchase and was very reasonable and so we "},{"startTime":1414.4,"endTime":1422.48,"body":"purchased that, but we also realized that  "},{"startTime":1423.04,"endTime":1429.68,"body":"there were some things that we would like to "},{"startTime":1423.04,"endTime":1429.68,"body":"add to their curriculum. So had conversations  "},{"startTime":1429.68,"endTime":1437.44,"body":"with them about making adaptations and they were "},{"startTime":1429.68,"endTime":1437.44,"body":"very willing to you know to allow that to happen. "},{"startTime":1437.44,"endTime":1444.32,"body":"and that's how we integrated the simulations. We "},{"startTime":1437.44,"endTime":1444.32,"body":"expanded some of the sections over the years. Our  "},{"startTime":1444.32,"endTime":1452.72,"body":"participants had told us, well this you know, this "},{"startTime":1444.32,"endTime":1452.72,"body":"40 contact hour thing is great but we want more.  "},{"startTime":1452.72,"endTime":1460.16,"body":"And so we actually wrote another grant to MHEC "},{"startTime":1452.72,"endTime":1460.16,"body":"to develop an advanced curriculum because there  "},{"startTime":1460.16,"endTime":1466.64,"body":"wasn't anything or we didn't see anything quite "},{"startTime":1460.16,"endTime":1466.64,"body":"like that. So we developed that ourselves, which is  "},{"startTime":1466.64,"endTime":1474.0,"body":"another 40 contact hour workshop, same arrangement, "},{"startTime":1466.64,"endTime":1474.0,"body":"thousand honorarium in exchange for those, which I  "},{"startTime":1474.0,"endTime":1480.48,"body":"don't think I said and I do need to say this is "},{"startTime":1474.0,"endTime":1480.48,"body":"our participants do need to agree to have their  "},{"startTime":1480.48,"endTime":1486.8,"body":"contact information be in our database that "},{"startTime":1480.48,"endTime":1486.8,"body":"is then shared with the deans and directors  "},{"startTime":1486.8,"endTime":1494.32,"body":"or hiring managers for the schools. So that if they "},{"startTime":1486.8,"endTime":1494.32,"body":"get a phone call out of the blue they kind of  "},{"startTime":1494.32,"endTime":1504.0,"body":"come to expect that. So in terms of scalability, "},{"startTime":1494.32,"endTime":1504.0,"body":"I think the main thing is how to get the word  "},{"startTime":1504.0,"endTime":1513.074,"body":"out about not just this program but and I know "},{"startTime":1504.0,"endTime":1513.074,"body":"that there's a conversation going on in the NLN  "},{"startTime":1513.074,"endTime":1519.04,"body":"community. Gosh I've forgotten what the name of "},{"startTime":1513.074,"endTime":1519.04,"body":"that, is about somebody is working on I think it's  "},{"startTime":1519.04,"endTime":1524.88,"body":"a capstone project and they're trying to "},{"startTime":1519.04,"endTime":1524.88,"body":"build a curriculum like this for clinical faculty.  "},{"startTime":1524.88,"endTime":1535.04,"body":"We don't all have to reinvent the wheel and I "},{"startTime":1524.88,"endTime":1535.04,"body":"mean frankly one of the things I think could be  "},{"startTime":1535.04,"endTime":1543.36,"body":"terrific is if the grant funding came to an end "},{"startTime":1535.04,"endTime":1543.36,"body":"and if the grantors were okay with you know  "},{"startTime":1543.36,"endTime":1548.32,"body":"we'd have to think about intellectual property "},{"startTime":1543.36,"endTime":1548.32,"body":"and all those kinds of things, you know is"},{"startTime":1548.32,"endTime":1555.12,"body":"creating something that could be available kind "},{"startTime":1548.32,"endTime":1555.12,"body":"of on a national level, back to Raquel's point.
