And we're"},{"startTime":36.96,"endTime":43.6,"body":"going to be highlighting a exemplar program, a IPE "},{"startTime":36.96,"endTime":43.6,"body":"program at the University of Texas Medical Branch."},{"startTime":43.6,"endTime":48.56,"body":"Before we dive into the full conversation, let's "},{"startTime":43.6,"endTime":48.56,"body":"share some of our reflections right after the"},{"startTime":48.56,"endTime":59.36,"body":"taping. Oh, so Raquel, that was a very informative "},{"startTime":48.56,"endTime":59.36,"body":"podcast. I listened to them and all I could think"},{"startTime":59.36,"endTime":64.96,"body":"of is where was this when I was in nursing school? "},{"startTime":59.36,"endTime":64.96,"body":"I wish more opportunities for interprofessional"},{"startTime":64.96,"endTime":75.12,"body":"education. Yeah. I think about my early "},{"startTime":64.96,"endTime":75.12,"body":"experiences as a new nurse and having to learn"},{"startTime":75.12,"endTime":82.88,"body":"how to relate with all other professionals in the "},{"startTime":75.12,"endTime":82.88,"body":"healthcare field and not have had any education"},{"startTime":82.88,"endTime":92.56,"body":"on that like literally. So then I had to learn on "},{"startTime":82.88,"endTime":92.56,"body":"my own. So hearing about this program where they"},{"startTime":92.56,"endTime":100.62,"body":"actually have required courses in order for them "},{"startTime":92.56,"endTime":100.62,"body":"to graduate, that was amazing for me because then"},{"startTime":100.62,"endTime":108.96,"body":"it's structured. I mean structured in a sense "},{"startTime":100.62,"endTime":108.96,"body":"that it's not oh I can do it or oh I don't have"},{"startTime":108.96,"endTime":119.6,"body":"to do it but really learners would have to do all "},{"startTime":108.96,"endTime":119.6,"body":"of their IP activities or their programs. Yeah."},{"startTime":119.6,"endTime":125.2,"body":"But but that just stresses that the university "},{"startTime":119.6,"endTime":125.2,"body":"takes IP serious seriously. You know it's not an"},{"startTime":125.2,"endTime":130.16,"body":"elective, not optional because it's so important "},{"startTime":125.2,"endTime":130.16,"body":"and really is needed if you're going into the"},{"startTime":130.16,"endTime":135.68,"body":"health care profession. Everybody should you "},{"startTime":130.16,"endTime":135.68,"body":"know having be having these opportunities to"},{"startTime":135.68,"endTime":140.16,"body":"learn from about and with other health care "},{"startTime":135.68,"endTime":140.16,"body":"professionals that makes the health care that"},{"startTime":140.16,"endTime":144.8,"body":"we deliver to our patients much better when we "},{"startTime":140.16,"endTime":144.8,"body":"can understand everybody's roles. So the fact"},{"startTime":144.8,"endTime":150.64,"body":"that the university you know made that stance "},{"startTime":144.8,"endTime":150.64,"body":"and said this is a requirement you know is is"},{"startTime":150.64,"endTime":155.44,"body":"amazing in itself and I think you know a lot of "},{"startTime":150.64,"endTime":155.44,"body":"times students may you know initially participate"},{"startTime":155.44,"endTime":159.92,"body":"because it's required but then they get a taste "},{"startTime":155.44,"endTime":159.92,"body":"of IP and as Ashley and Katie said then they"},{"startTime":159.92,"endTime":167.12,"body":"fall in love with it and they want more of "},{"startTime":159.92,"endTime":167.12,"body":"it because they see the value in it. And "},{"startTime":202.08,"endTime":208.88,"body":"I have to just start off by saying I personally"},{"startTime":208.88,"endTime":214.72,"body":"had an opportunity to visit your wonderful "},{"startTime":208.88,"endTime":214.72,"body":"simulation center interprofessional center. So,"},{"startTime":214.72,"endTime":219.92,"body":"I was just really impressed by your program. So, "},{"startTime":214.72,"endTime":219.92,"body":"I'm really excited to share the wonderful things"},{"startTime":219.92,"endTime":226.48,"body":"that you're doing at UTMB with the rest of our "},{"startTime":219.92,"endTime":226.48,"body":"audience. So, let's start off with just just tell"},{"startTime":226.48,"endTime":233.68,"body":"us a little bit about your your program. what "},{"startTime":226.48,"endTime":233.68,"body":"makes it unique? Yeah, sure. Thank you so much,"},{"startTime":233.68,"endTime":240.56,"body":"Dr. Bryant. So, our program here is a very well "},{"startTime":233.68,"endTime":240.56,"body":"established and it's becoming a robust program"},{"startTime":240.56,"endTime":248.4,"body":"at UTMB. We have a core curriculum of seven "},{"startTime":240.56,"endTime":248.4,"body":"activities which are about 2 hours each and"},{"startTime":248.4,"endTime":255.68,"body":"students from all the five schools here at UTMB. "},{"startTime":248.4,"endTime":255.68,"body":"Medicine, Nursing, Public and Population Health,"},{"startTime":255.68,"endTime":260.48,"body":"Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, and "},{"startTime":255.68,"endTime":260.48,"body":"the School of Health Professions. They all"},{"startTime":260.48,"endTime":270.4,"body":"are required to complete four out of the seven "},{"startTime":260.48,"endTime":270.4,"body":"prior to graduation. That's a great program. I"},{"startTime":270.4,"endTime":276.24,"body":"know I want to say, you know, Ashley and her team "},{"startTime":270.4,"endTime":276.24,"body":"does a phenomenal job and that's just one aspect"},{"startTime":276.24,"endTime":280.88,"body":"of the work that they're doing. So, we have our "},{"startTime":276.24,"endTime":280.88,"body":"core curriculum and the students do have some"},{"startTime":280.88,"endTime":286.48,"body":"flexibility in choosing what meets their interest "},{"startTime":280.88,"endTime":286.48,"body":"and what they complete prior to graduation. But"},{"startTime":286.48,"endTime":292.0,"body":"on top of those activities, Ashley's team is "},{"startTime":286.48,"endTime":292.0,"body":"always doing supplemental things. So, we have"},{"startTime":292.0,"endTime":300.4,"body":"an annual IP symposium that is open to anybody "},{"startTime":292.0,"endTime":300.4,"body":"at UTMB. It's a great opportunity for faculty,"},{"startTime":300.4,"endTime":307.6,"body":"but also students to present their scholarly "},{"startTime":300.4,"endTime":307.6,"body":"work in IP. And we make it free. So everybody"},{"startTime":307.6,"endTime":314.64,"body":"can attend here in person. And then we also have "},{"startTime":307.6,"endTime":314.64,"body":"a scholars program that Ashley runs and it's open"},{"startTime":314.64,"endTime":320.0,"body":"to any students that are interested in kind "},{"startTime":314.64,"endTime":320.0,"body":"of going beyond the just the core curriculum."},{"startTime":320.0,"endTime":325.76,"body":"And the scholars do have a scholarly project "},{"startTime":320.0,"endTime":325.76,"body":"that they have to do as part of that. And then"},{"startTime":325.76,"endTime":333.68,"body":"as part of our ongoing quality improvement, Ashley "},{"startTime":325.76,"endTime":333.68,"body":"and her team are always piloting new activities."},{"startTime":333.68,"endTime":340.4,"body":"So there's always a wealth of things going on "},{"startTime":333.68,"endTime":340.4,"body":"for students to engage in. So I hear a lot of"},{"startTime":340.4,"endTime":346.96,"body":"very interesting things you're doing and this "},{"startTime":340.4,"endTime":346.96,"body":"curriculum sounds wonderful but I'm also curious."},{"startTime":346.96,"endTime":353.6,"body":"So how do you define interprofessional education "},{"startTime":346.96,"endTime":353.6,"body":"in plain language and what is it not? Do you want"},{"startTime":353.6,"endTime":358.8,"body":"to take that one Ashley? Yeah I would love to and "},{"startTime":353.6,"endTime":358.8,"body":"that's a great question Raquel. I'm glad you asked"},{"startTime":358.8,"endTime":366.24,"body":"that. It's a very common question. I would say IP "},{"startTime":358.8,"endTime":366.24,"body":"the goal is to improve patient care outcomes and"},{"startTime":366.24,"endTime":372.48,"body":"also safety outcomes. It's really when two or "},{"startTime":366.24,"endTime":372.48,"body":"more different professions are learning about"},{"startTime":372.48,"endTime":378.72,"body":"each other's roles and responsibilities. So a "},{"startTime":372.48,"endTime":378.72,"body":"lot of communication has to occur there as they"},{"startTime":378.72,"endTime":385.6,"body":"educate each other about what they do and how they "},{"startTime":378.72,"endTime":385.6,"body":"can contribute to the overall goal and the team."},{"startTime":385.6,"endTime":392.8,"body":"What IP is not is when team members of the same "},{"startTime":385.6,"endTime":392.8,"body":"profession are working together. So really,"},{"startTime":392.8,"endTime":400.24,"body":"as I mentioned before, IP has to have at least two "},{"startTime":392.8,"endTime":400.24,"body":"different professions. And I'm glad you clarified"},{"startTime":400.24,"endTime":404.08,"body":"that because some people think they're doing "},{"startTime":400.24,"endTime":404.08,"body":"IP and they're not. They think if you just take"},{"startTime":404.08,"endTime":408.64,"body":"a group of students from different professions "},{"startTime":404.08,"endTime":408.64,"body":"and put them in a room together, that's IP. But"},{"startTime":408.64,"endTime":413.52,"body":"I remember hearing and I'll never forget it. It's "},{"startTime":408.64,"endTime":413.52,"body":"about learning from each other, with each other,"},{"startTime":413.52,"endTime":418.8,"body":"and about each other. I always keep that in mind "},{"startTime":413.52,"endTime":418.8,"body":"when I think about IP. You know, one of the things"},{"startTime":418.8,"endTime":423.84,"body":"that I love to see when our students come in "},{"startTime":418.8,"endTime":423.84,"body":"at any given time, we have about 3,000 students"},{"startTime":423.84,"endTime":430.32,"body":"that are in the process of completing the core "},{"startTime":423.84,"endTime":430.32,"body":"curriculum. And when they come to the IP events,"},{"startTime":430.32,"endTime":436.56,"body":"there's this level of excitement that you see in "},{"startTime":430.32,"endTime":436.56,"body":"our learners. And I think part of it is exactly"},{"startTime":436.56,"endTime":443.04,"body":"that, is it their opportunity to not only share "},{"startTime":436.56,"endTime":443.04,"body":"their scope of practice for their profession, but"},{"startTime":443.04,"endTime":448.08,"body":"it's also their opportunity learn about the scope "},{"startTime":443.04,"endTime":448.08,"body":"of practice of other healthcare professionals that"},{"startTime":448.08,"endTime":453.453,"body":"they know they're going to be working with "},{"startTime":448.08,"endTime":453.453,"body":"in the clinical realm. That isn't always"},{"startTime":453.453,"endTime":460.4,"body":"included because our curriculums are so packed for "},{"startTime":453.453,"endTime":460.4,"body":"our academic disciplines. But this is you know an"},{"startTime":460.4,"endTime":466.24,"body":"open opportunity for them to learn about other "},{"startTime":460.4,"endTime":466.24,"body":"disciplines in you know in a safe environment"},{"startTime":466.24,"endTime":475.92,"body":"that isn't tied to a grade for a course which is "},{"startTime":466.24,"endTime":475.92,"body":"it's fun to it's fun to see. It really is. So like"},{"startTime":475.92,"endTime":480.48,"body":"I said I had the pleasure of visiting your campus "},{"startTime":475.92,"endTime":480.48,"body":"and hearing more about some of your programs and"},{"startTime":480.48,"endTime":485.2,"body":"they were very interesting. So can you tell us "},{"startTime":480.48,"endTime":485.2,"body":"a little bit more about some of them? I remember"},{"startTime":485.2,"endTime":489.2,"body":"there's one that was called and I don't want "},{"startTime":485.2,"endTime":489.2,"body":"to say BaFa BaFa. Is that how you pronounce it?"},{"startTime":489.2,"endTime":496.4,"body":"Okay. Engage me. What's wrong with Warren? So, can "},{"startTime":489.2,"endTime":496.4,"body":"you tell us a little bit about some of those very"},{"startTime":496.4,"endTime":503.28,"body":"innovative and creative activities that students "},{"startTime":496.4,"endTime":503.28,"body":"have a choice of taking or participating? Yes. No,"},{"startTime":503.28,"endTime":510.24,"body":"you said it correctly. So it's Yeah, it sounds "},{"startTime":503.28,"endTime":510.24,"body":"funny, but BaFa BaFa is actually one of our most"},{"startTime":510.24,"endTime":519.36,"body":"popular ones. It's an immersive mock cultural "},{"startTime":510.24,"endTime":519.36,"body":"simulation activity and it's all done in person"},{"startTime":519.36,"endTime":525.76,"body":"and BaFa is the language one of the mock "},{"startTime":519.36,"endTime":525.76,"body":"languages there that we speak and so and"},{"startTime":525.76,"endTime":532.56,"body":"we also have \"What's Wrong with Warren?,\" which is "},{"startTime":525.76,"endTime":532.56,"body":"a large-scale case study it follows a patient with"},{"startTime":532.56,"endTime":543.6,"body":"meningitis throughout his their IP journey of on "},{"startTime":532.56,"endTime":543.6,"body":"a being cared for by an IPE team. And then engage"},{"startTime":543.6,"endTime":550.56,"body":"me is where students get they another popular one "},{"startTime":543.6,"endTime":550.56,"body":"they love to they get a chance to interact with"},{"startTime":550.56,"endTime":558.8,"body":"the patients or the caregiver on various health "},{"startTime":550.56,"endTime":558.8,"body":"topics. So they really enjoy asking questions,"},{"startTime":558.8,"endTime":564.16,"body":"learning more about you know yes the clinical "},{"startTime":558.8,"endTime":564.16,"body":"aspect is great with the panelists that are"},{"startTime":564.16,"endTime":570.24,"body":"there but then you know learning about the things "},{"startTime":564.16,"endTime":570.24,"body":"they don't get to always learn from a textbook"},{"startTime":570.24,"endTime":576.56,"body":"or a PowerPoint, you know, how do the patients "},{"startTime":570.24,"endTime":576.56,"body":"and the families deal with this after discharge?"},{"startTime":576.56,"endTime":582.8,"body":"Especially if it's a chronic disease, what other "},{"startTime":576.56,"endTime":582.8,"body":"resources are there? So those are the three that"},{"startTime":582.8,"endTime":589.12,"body":"are really our main ones. And then we of "},{"startTime":582.8,"endTime":589.12,"body":"course team steps is our foundational one."},{"startTime":589.12,"endTime":596.8,"body":"Disaster day is our mass casualty incident there. "},{"startTime":589.12,"endTime":596.8,"body":"Collaboration of the Galveston community partners"},{"startTime":596.8,"endTime":603.2,"body":"as well as the UTMB students and healthcare "},{"startTime":596.8,"endTime":603.2,"body":"providers. Our bench to bedside, it's where"},{"startTime":603.2,"endTime":609.92,"body":"students get to design scientific experiments on "},{"startTime":603.2,"endTime":609.92,"body":"a specific disease and IP teams to improve patient"},{"startTime":609.92,"endTime":616.08,"body":"outcomes. And then we have the extension of engage "},{"startTime":609.92,"endTime":616.08,"body":"me which I Katie if you want to talk a little bit"},{"startTime":616.08,"endTime":622.64,"body":"more about our GTX-GEMS. Yeah. So, we're just in "},{"startTime":616.08,"endTime":622.64,"body":"we just finished our first year of our greater"},{"startTime":622.64,"endTime":629.52,"body":"Texas Gulf Coast Engage Me series, which is what "},{"startTime":622.64,"endTime":629.52,"body":"we do call GTX-GEMS for short. And it was building"},{"startTime":629.52,"endTime":635.52,"body":"on that engage me experience where with Engage Me, "},{"startTime":629.52,"endTime":635.52,"body":"like Ashley said, the students actually interact"},{"startTime":635.52,"endTime":641.68,"body":"with patients and their caregivers on a specific "},{"startTime":635.52,"endTime":641.68,"body":"disease step. What we do with GTX-GEMS is we bring"},{"startTime":641.68,"endTime":647.36,"body":"it to a larger audience. So we bring in an expert "},{"startTime":641.68,"endTime":647.36,"body":"from the state to talk about what's happening"},{"startTime":647.36,"endTime":652.88,"body":"at the governmental level either legislation or "},{"startTime":647.36,"endTime":652.88,"body":"funding. We bring in somebody from the region to"},{"startTime":652.88,"endTime":658.16,"body":"talk about how that funding is being utilized. "},{"startTime":652.88,"endTime":658.16,"body":"And then we also take it as an opportunity to"},{"startTime":658.16,"endTime":663.68,"body":"engage students with what's happening here on "},{"startTime":658.16,"endTime":663.68,"body":"campus from a clinical or research perspective"},{"startTime":663.68,"endTime":670.4,"body":"on that same topic. And those events run monthly "},{"startTime":663.68,"endTime":670.4,"body":"for our students and they're open to a larger"},{"startTime":670.4,"endTime":676.56,"body":"audience. So, it's not just students, but we "},{"startTime":670.4,"endTime":676.56,"body":"open it up to faculty, clinical practitioners"},{"startTime":676.56,"endTime":681.12,"body":"throughout the healthcare system here. And "},{"startTime":676.56,"endTime":681.12,"body":"then we also open it up to community members."},{"startTime":681.12,"endTime":687.6,"body":"And I think that's one thing that is really vital "},{"startTime":681.12,"endTime":687.6,"body":"to IP that, you know, we don't work in a vacuum,"},{"startTime":687.6,"endTime":692.96,"body":"but it's not only the health care practitioners "},{"startTime":687.6,"endTime":692.96,"body":"that we work with, it's our patients, it's their"},{"startTime":692.96,"endTime":698.16,"body":"caregivers and family, but there's a community "},{"startTime":692.96,"endTime":698.16,"body":"involvement also a lot of times in the work that"},{"startTime":698.16,"endTime":703.68,"body":"we're trying to do for the good of our patients. "},{"startTime":698.16,"endTime":703.68,"body":"That's a great point because most of us think it's"},{"startTime":703.68,"endTime":708.8,"body":"just for the learners or the students enrolled "},{"startTime":703.68,"endTime":708.8,"body":"in that university. So, it's great that you open"},{"startTime":708.8,"endTime":714.48,"body":"it up to the community and people outside "},{"startTime":708.8,"endTime":714.48,"body":"of the university. Yeah. Great. It's really"},{"startTime":714.48,"endTime":722.88,"body":"wonderful to hear all of the significant events "},{"startTime":714.48,"endTime":722.88,"body":"that's happening in your program and we all know"},{"startTime":722.88,"endTime":731.44,"body":"that this is important as we train the future "},{"startTime":722.88,"endTime":731.44,"body":"health professionals. So I'm curious too how"},{"startTime":731.44,"endTime":744.32,"body":"do you measure impact like what tools and other "},{"startTime":731.44,"endTime":744.32,"body":"measurement are important to you? Yes, I mean I"},{"startTime":744.32,"endTime":750.16,"body":"can start with this one and maybe then Ashley can "},{"startTime":744.32,"endTime":750.16,"body":"build on it also. But the research side and the"},{"startTime":750.16,"endTime":756.64,"body":"data collection for us is super exciting. I think "},{"startTime":750.16,"endTime":756.64,"body":"that's where we see opportunity for improvement"},{"startTime":756.64,"endTime":763.84,"body":"and innovation. And so we're constantly collecting "},{"startTime":756.64,"endTime":763.84,"body":"data on our existing core curriculum. We have,"},{"startTime":763.84,"endTime":770.88,"body":"we utilize a modified CASS tool for all of our "},{"startTime":763.84,"endTime":770.88,"body":"events. So we're measuring pre and post all of our"},{"startTime":770.88,"endTime":777.44,"body":"core activities. And then we do the same for all "},{"startTime":770.88,"endTime":777.44,"body":"of our pilot activities. So we like to keep things"},{"startTime":777.44,"endTime":783.28,"body":"fresh. You know, one of our activities is \"What's "},{"startTime":777.44,"endTime":783.28,"body":"Wrong with Warren?\" If you do this over and over,"},{"startTime":783.28,"endTime":787.68,"body":"it doesn't take very long for one student to "},{"startTime":783.28,"endTime":787.68,"body":"talk to another student and the students come"},{"startTime":787.68,"endTime":792.64,"body":"in and they already know what's wrong with "},{"startTime":787.68,"endTime":792.64,"body":"Warren and have, you know, that element of"},{"startTime":792.64,"endTime":798.88,"body":"surprise or coming up with ideas on your own can "},{"startTime":792.64,"endTime":798.88,"body":"be eliminated. So, we're always looking for ways"},{"startTime":798.88,"endTime":807.04,"body":"to keep things new. Look for innovative ideas. "},{"startTime":798.88,"endTime":807.04,"body":"And so anytime we have any activities that are"},{"startTime":807.04,"endTime":813.68,"body":"suggested by students, suggested by faculty, "},{"startTime":807.04,"endTime":813.68,"body":"suggested by our IP team, we really do try and"},{"startTime":813.68,"endTime":821.36,"body":"make them come to fruition. And then once we have "},{"startTime":813.68,"endTime":821.36,"body":"those implemented, we're measuring them. And the"},{"startTime":821.36,"endTime":829.36,"body":"way that our IP team is guided is we have an "},{"startTime":821.36,"endTime":829.36,"body":"advisory committee and we meet regularly and"},{"startTime":829.36,"endTime":838.24,"body":"we present this data to the advisory committee. "},{"startTime":829.36,"endTime":838.24,"body":"So, we had an IP pilot activity on psychological"},{"startTime":838.24,"endTime":843.68,"body":"safety. I'm not going to have the name of it "},{"startTime":838.24,"endTime":843.68,"body":"exactly right, but Ashley can tell you about that,"},{"startTime":843.68,"endTime":848.4,"body":"that we actually piloted earlier this year, "},{"startTime":843.68,"endTime":848.4,"body":"but we're collecting data on that to see"},{"startTime":848.4,"endTime":853.68,"body":"if it's something that is well-received by "},{"startTime":848.4,"endTime":853.68,"body":"learners and something that we would want to"},{"startTime":853.68,"endTime":860.88,"body":"implement in the future. But I'm sure Ashley "},{"startTime":853.68,"endTime":860.88,"body":"can build on further. Sure. Thank you. So our data all goes to meet "},{"startTime":993.36,"endTime":1004.32,"body":"those quality expectations as part of our quality"},{"startTime":1004.32,"endTime":1011.84,"body":"enhancement plan across the entire institution. So the data is well utilized "},{"startTime":1017.12,"endTime":1024.24,"body":"and it and it helps a lot when you have your"},{"startTime":1024.24,"endTime":1031.04,"body":"senior leadership that believes these programs and "},{"startTime":1024.24,"endTime":1031.04,"body":"supports these programs. So we we know it's great"},{"startTime":1031.04,"endTime":1036.0,"body":"it's wonderful you know you have the metrics. Now "},{"startTime":1031.04,"endTime":1036.0,"body":"let's switch gears and talk about the challenges"},{"startTime":1036.0,"endTime":1043.2,"body":"because there are so many you know educators that "},{"startTime":1036.0,"endTime":1043.2,"body":"would love to take on an IP program but they face"},{"startTime":1043.2,"endTime":1048.16,"body":"so many barriers and obstacles. So, what do you "},{"startTime":1043.2,"endTime":1048.16,"body":"find are the biggest challenges with implementing"},{"startTime":1048.16,"endTime":1052.24,"body":"a program such as the one that you have? Because "},{"startTime":1048.16,"endTime":1052.24,"body":"you always hear schedule, schedule, scheduling."},{"startTime":1052.24,"endTime":1058.56,"body":"I'm guessing that's probably the top barrier. "},{"startTime":1052.24,"endTime":1058.56,"body":"Go ahead, Ashley. I know you can speak to this"},{"startTime":1058.56,"endTime":1067.387,"body":"one. Yes. And scheduling is one of our biggest "},{"startTime":1058.56,"endTime":1067.387,"body":"challenges. I will say when the program did start"},{"startTime":1067.387,"endTime":1075.6,"body":"there were there were the programs all the five "},{"startTime":1067.387,"endTime":1075.6,"body":"schools decided that there was this one week in"},{"startTime":1075.6,"endTime":1081.92,"body":"every month like the third week where all the "},{"startTime":1075.6,"endTime":1081.92,"body":"activities all IP activities could be scheduled"},{"startTime":1081.92,"endTime":1089.92,"body":"and so it was a lot for staff to schedule as you "},{"startTime":1081.92,"endTime":1089.92,"body":"said so much that my my team goes does behind the"},{"startTime":1089.92,"endTime":1097.68,"body":"scenes. And so then COVID hit. Well, there were "},{"startTime":1089.92,"endTime":1097.68,"body":"with COVID a lot of programs went online or hybrid"},{"startTime":1097.68,"endTime":1107.28,"body":"and new programs came about as well. So I will say "},{"startTime":1097.68,"endTime":1107.28,"body":"that we listen to the data and evaluations and we"},{"startTime":1107.28,"endTime":1114.08,"body":"decided to have at least now one to two activities "},{"startTime":1107.28,"endTime":1114.08,"body":"a week in the mornings, afternoons and they really"},{"startTime":1114.08,"endTime":1122.96,"body":"appreciated that. So it's worked out well. Yeah, "},{"startTime":1114.08,"endTime":1122.96,"body":"it's interesting to hear all of these challenges"},{"startTime":1122.96,"endTime":1131.92,"body":"that we have to navigate even if we all know how "},{"startTime":1122.96,"endTime":1131.92,"body":"important IP is and should be not only in nursing"},{"startTime":1131.92,"endTime":1142.48,"body":"education but all of health professions. So if for "},{"startTime":1131.92,"endTime":1142.48,"body":"example if we're helping our health professions"},{"startTime":1142.48,"endTime":1150.88,"body":"community try to advocate for inclusion of IPs as "},{"startTime":1142.48,"endTime":1150.88,"body":"a foundational competency right so what would that"},{"startTime":1150.88,"endTime":1159.84,"body":"one strong argument do you think that we should "},{"startTime":1150.88,"endTime":1159.84,"body":"be using to say hey IP is foundational competency"},{"startTime":1159.84,"endTime":1165.84,"body":"needs to be included in the curriculum. You know, "},{"startTime":1159.84,"endTime":1165.84,"body":"for this one, what I would say is we're stronger"},{"startTime":1165.84,"endTime":1172.48,"body":"together as a team, not only in healthcare, "},{"startTime":1165.84,"endTime":1172.48,"body":"but in IP. There is no reason that one school"},{"startTime":1172.48,"endTime":1179.04,"body":"or academic program needs to do this alone. Reach "},{"startTime":1172.48,"endTime":1179.04,"body":"out, find your champions across the institution,"},{"startTime":1179.04,"endTime":1185.04,"body":"and together, collectively, you will move that "},{"startTime":1179.04,"endTime":1185.04,"body":"mission forward so much faster and stronger than"},{"startTime":1185.04,"endTime":1193.12,"body":"if it's one school, one faculty, one, you know, "},{"startTime":1185.04,"endTime":1193.12,"body":"one department at a time. So use your resources,"},{"startTime":1193.12,"endTime":1202.32,"body":"networking and teamwork which embodies the very "},{"startTime":1193.12,"endTime":1202.32,"body":"collaboration that IP should have. Exactly."},{"startTime":1202.32,"endTime":1208.4,"body":"Exactly. I can start off and you know,"},{"startTime":1226.24,"endTime":1232.32,"body":"really say the biggest thing, you know, when I "},{"startTime":1226.24,"endTime":1232.32,"body":"came into this role was collaboration. Really"},{"startTime":1232.32,"endTime":1240.96,"body":"finding a network of IP champions and really "},{"startTime":1232.32,"endTime":1240.96,"body":"trying to have the conversations. I met face"},{"startTime":1240.96,"endTime":1248.16,"body":"to face with a lot of them and it took a little "},{"startTime":1240.96,"endTime":1248.16,"body":"time but I really had to put myself out there and"},{"startTime":1248.16,"endTime":1254.24,"body":"let them know that hey you know we can I think we "},{"startTime":1248.16,"endTime":1254.24,"body":"do have some shared values and let's see how it"},{"startTime":1254.24,"endTime":1260.8,"body":"can align with your goals your program and UTMB's "},{"startTime":1254.24,"endTime":1260.8,"body":"vision. So yeah, just having those conversations"},{"startTime":1260.8,"endTime":1268.72,"body":"about collaboration first off really helps. Say to "},{"startTime":1260.8,"endTime":1268.72,"body":"build on that, look at your local, your regional,"},{"startTime":1268.72,"endTime":1274.4,"body":"your state, and your national organizations "},{"startTime":1268.72,"endTime":1274.4,"body":"like the National League for Nursing and the"},{"startTime":1274.4,"endTime":1280.56,"body":"international, national interprofessional "},{"startTime":1274.4,"endTime":1280.56,"body":"education organizations. There's a ton of"},{"startTime":1280.56,"endTime":1286.24,"body":"resources out there that you don't have to start "},{"startTime":1280.56,"endTime":1286.24,"body":"from scratch. Build on what other people have"},{"startTime":1286.24,"endTime":1292.48,"body":"already set the building blocks for. You know, the "},{"startTime":1286.24,"endTime":1292.48,"body":"only other thing that I can think of that would"},{"startTime":1292.48,"endTime":1299.04,"body":"help institutions that are just starting off or "},{"startTime":1292.48,"endTime":1299.04,"body":"are trying to make the work that they do in in IP"},{"startTime":1299.04,"endTime":1304.48,"body":"have an impact is the difference that I "},{"startTime":1299.04,"endTime":1304.48,"body":"see here at UTMB compared to other some"},{"startTime":1304.48,"endTime":1310.56,"body":"other institutions is that UTMB has made the "},{"startTime":1304.48,"endTime":1310.56,"body":"core IP curriculum a requirement. You know,"},{"startTime":1310.56,"endTime":1316.48,"body":"like we mentioned, all the work that goes behind "},{"startTime":1310.56,"endTime":1316.48,"body":"organizing and scheduling and getting things"},{"startTime":1316.48,"endTime":1323.04,"body":"to be just right. Nothing is more defeating "},{"startTime":1316.48,"endTime":1323.04,"body":"is when nobody shows up and you have one or"},{"startTime":1323.04,"endTime":1328.4,"body":"two people. So, our events that we hold, I mean, "},{"startTime":1323.04,"endTime":1328.4,"body":"there are some are what's wrong with Warren Buffa"},{"startTime":1328.4,"endTime":1335.2,"body":"buff. We'll see up towards 200 people show up per "},{"startTime":1328.4,"endTime":1335.2,"body":"event because they are required and it isn't a big"},{"startTime":1335.2,"endTime":1341.2,"body":"lift for students here. It's, you know, as Ashley "},{"startTime":1335.2,"endTime":1341.2,"body":"mentioned, two, two and a half hours per activity"},{"startTime":1341.2,"endTime":1348.88,"body":"and they have the whole course of their academic "},{"startTime":1341.2,"endTime":1348.88,"body":"curriculum to finish that work. So 2 and 1/2 hours"},{"startTime":1348.88,"endTime":1355.68,"body":"per semester isn't a lot to ask, but then it does "},{"startTime":1348.88,"endTime":1355.68,"body":"show value to the students that we do value this"},{"startTime":1355.68,"endTime":1361.28,"body":"as an institution and then it does pay off in the "},{"startTime":1355.68,"endTime":1361.28,"body":"long run. We do all this work knowing we're going"},{"startTime":1361.28,"endTime":1368.8,"body":"to have a large volume of actual learners show "},{"startTime":1361.28,"endTime":1368.8,"body":"up to participate. Yeah. And I think it's just"},{"startTime":1368.8,"endTime":1373.68,"body":"beneficial. Yes, it's two and a half hours a "},{"startTime":1368.8,"endTime":1373.68,"body":"semester, but think of what they learn and the"},{"startTime":1373.68,"endTime":1379.28,"body":"opportunity to work with others outside of their "},{"startTime":1373.68,"endTime":1379.28,"body":"profession because we all go to school in silos,"},{"startTime":1379.28,"endTime":1384.48,"body":"whether you're a nurse, a dentist, physician, OT, "},{"startTime":1379.28,"endTime":1384.48,"body":"PT, and then we're expected to work together in"},{"startTime":1384.48,"endTime":1389.2,"body":"the clinical setting.
