Wildlife and Adventure Photography
Every Friday, I'll review suggestions and ideas to help you improve your photography, especially if you're passionate about wildlife and travel photography.
Wildlife and Adventure Photography
DSLR v Mirrorless for wildlife photography
The discussion about which is best; DSLR or Mirrorless cameras, still continues. In this podcast I compare similar cameras to try to give you the right questions to ask when choosing between the two.
It really comes down to what you need for your type of photography, or at least for 90% of it.
Mirrorless cameras have certain advantages:
- Size and weight (usually)
- Higher resolution (the Mega Pixels)
- Faster shutter speeds
- Longer burst duration
- More sophisticated autofocus systems
- In-body image stabilisation
But so do DSLR's:
- Lower battery consumption; more photographs per battery charge
- Wider range of lenses
- Cheaper price
What it comes down to is what is important to you? If you're new to photography, you might want to experiment with a lower cost DSLR and/or Mirrorless camera and hold off from making a larger investment until you are clear about what you need in your system.
For my wildlife photography, I sometimes have to walk for several hours, sometimes over difficult terrain. This makes size and weight an issue.
I also like to have two camera bodies with me; as back up in case one of them goes wrong, and to allow me to switch between telephoto and wide angle setups very quickly.
I hope you'll get some useful pointers from listening to this podcast.
