Her Ambitious Career
Ep 8 - 'This Little Girl Is Me - How Having Diverse Female Role Models Is Crucial For Our Girls' Success' with guest Miriam González Durántez
Welcome to Her Ambitious Career, the personal branding and success podcast for corporate women.
This is Episode 8, “ 'This Little Girl Is Me - How Having Diverse Female Role Models Is Crucial For Our Girls' Success” with my guest, Miriam González Durántez, founder of the charity Inspiring Girls.
You may have seen the #thislittlegirlisme campaign currently going viral across social channels. So many of the stories being shared are absolutely awe-inspiring.
The campaign was started by Inspiring Girls and encourages women, from all walks of life, to share their stories of overcoming adversity, falling and succeeding in a bid to encourage young girls globally to expand their horizons and chase down their dreams.
The campaign is here to mark International Day of The Girl, on 11 October 2021.
I had the absolute pleasure and privilege to speak with Miriam about the campaign and the vision for Inspiring Girls and, being a mum to both a girl and a boy, I am thrilled to bring this episode to you today. Rebecca x
Quotes from this episode:
“I am super grateful to all those big names (Sheryl Sandberg, Annie Lennox and Ellie Cole have all posted their own personal stories for example) for participating, because of course giving volume to the campaign is essential, but we are trying to shine a light on the others, the amazing role models who are not normally on television or magazines – and they are wonderful role models to girls.” (Miriam González Durántez, guest on ‘Her Ambitious Career’ Podcast)
“One of my favourite stories was a lady who works in a supermarket who said, ‘I had all these big dreams as a little girl but they just didn’t happen. I ended up working in a supermarket. And it was [only] with Covid that I realised how important my job is.’ That is what this campaign is about. It’s about diversity of role models, it is about every woman from all walks of life, from all backgrounds. Not every girl is going to be CEO of the big investment bank or working in tech. Some may not be able to - some may not want to – but all of them deserve role models.” (Miriam González Durántez, guest on ‘Her Ambitious Career’ Podcast)
