Paz chinchilla (00:00)
I can't speak anything in Catalan. Well, hello everyone, welcome to your first episode of All About Bikes in Spanish, all about bicycles. My name is Maripaz Chinchilla and I'm very excited because for the first time we are generating podcast content in Spanish, my native language. For our first episode, we couldn't miss a mega guest. With me is a recognized athlete with an impressive race, a gold medalist of the World Cup.

jordi (00:01)
Vale.

Vang it.

Paz chinchilla (00:30)
He is part of the Piut family and a very good friend Jordi Vago. Jordi, how are you?

jordi (00:36)
Hello Paz, how are you? Thank you for inviting me, it's a pleasure.

Paz chinchilla (00:42)
That's great. Jordi, before we dive into your achievements as a mountain bike rider, you can share with our listeners who Jordi Vago is.

jordi (00:52)
Well, a person is a very simple person who enjoys life doing what he likes best, which is riding a bike. This week, for example, I am very tired because I am working in my garden, but I take my time to train and my dad told him, it is amazing what relaxes me on the bike, it is the best thing that has happened to me in life.

6 years with Pivot I'm very grateful to Chris to all of you because you are my family, my friends and I swear to you, it's the best thing in the world riding a bike and being able to live from this is a dream I live in Barcelona

Paz chinchilla (01:35)
Well, you say... Okay, no, you're building a garden in which part of Spain do you live?

jordi (01:42)
Well, I live in Barcelona, outside of Barcelona. I've invited you and Kellen several times, it's like paradise. Really, we have everything. Incredible mountains where they train all the top riders in the World Cup and the descent, especially Bruni, Komensal and other people, Pergete and so on. And I also have many places to train with our road bikes, with the Volt or E-Volt, infinity of mountain passes, the beach next to it, but I really don't like the beach.

I'm not interested in the beach, I like the mountains more. And the truth is that I've been doing this all my life. Luckily, I've been in the best companies in the world. Before being with Pivot, I was in a company in Santa Cruz. I was 5 years old with them. And then the paths with Pivot came together and I'm 6 now. And as Chris says, this is your home and here you are as long as you want.

It's going too far.

Paz chinchilla (02:44)
That's great. And besides the house, because I imagine it's one of the favorite places to ride a bike, what other place in the world can you say is your favorite or that you really like to ride?

jordi (02:58)
I like many places to ride, but if I had to choose one, I would say Austria. Austria, I love it. The mountains are super beautiful, but apart from that, the circuits are incredible, speaking of Zenz, more than anything. And it's not Leogang. Schladming is for me much better, for many runners of the World Cup it has always been like an icon, an incredible place, but well, Leogang now has the power to do all the World Cup races.

of all disciplines and it's done there, but before it was slamming and I swear that whenever I can I'm close I go to do a week of training or go down or just have a good time with the enduro bikes or something is incredible

Paz chinchilla (03:41)
We know that your experience in racing is more than anything in Enduro and downhill, but it's not the only thing you do. You've worked with other sponsors in different projects.

jordi (03:57)
if that is another of the things that now we could say I could only do that you know but I am super competitive I think I will never stop being it and what I can tell you Chris and Brian have never in my life asked me to go run that I never remember the first time I wrote Chris

He answered in 15 minutes. I had never spoken to him and he answered. That was once when I came to Tempi, to Phoenix. He put me in front of everyone and made me explain that. I'm super shy about that, I'm telling you the truth. Not with my friends, but with that I am. And at three months, not even three months, I broke my hand.

I remember it perfectly, he told me he had proved it more than me in three months that many people had passed by Pivot That's what Chris told me, well Chris, Brian and many people told me, but it was incredible And what you tell me is true, I've done and I continue to do for many brands With Pivot whenever I come I have the pleasure of testing the prototypes and giving my feedback, my opinion And it is that Chris listens to me, he knows what I do with Kevin and I always try to contribute, help

Paz chinchilla (05:11)
Mm-hmm.

jordi (05:16)
in everything I can. Cranbrothers is like another family to me. It's the sponsor that I've spent the most time with in my life and I'm very close to them, very close. And it helped me develop everything Cranbrothers has also with KMC, with All Mountain Style, Kask, Shvalve, who I've also been with for 14 years.

It's what I like the most, and especially to do things like that you have to have a feeling for what you're doing And I love that sometimes they send me things And they sent you this and it's a lie They were wrong and it's wrong and I'm like hey, that's not good That yes, that no, that no and they look at it and You know, sometimes I think they test me but no, sometimes You know we've tried so many things That maybe they were wrong in the sample they sent me or something like that But it's what I like the most, I would say

Paz chinchilla (06:03)
See.

jordi (06:10)
I don't spend much time this week, but normally I spend all day testing products, whether it's clothes with Manzuro, or whatever, the suitcases I've designed for other brands. And what I like the most is that it always comes out for sale. That in a few years people are trying, or using what we've developed. That's what I like the most. Not to say I've done it, but to bring a grain of sand to what I like the most in life, which is the bicycle.

Paz chinchilla (06:25)
Mm-hmm.

Yes. Also, well, you're building something at home, but you've also built tracks, or trails and bike parks all over the world.

jordi (06:50)
Well, not everyone has been to Africa yet. Yes, yes, yes. But I have done a lot. I have done a lot in Russia. I have done a lot in Slovenia, a lot in Bulgaria. I am the coordinator of the Bike Park. That is one hour from Sofia. The people who can go are worth it. It is very beautiful. It has tracks for all levels, even family. I have done, apart from where I live, also in Canary Islands, in Portugal.

Paz chinchilla (06:53)
Bueno, varios lugares.

jordi (07:17)
in Azores, in Argentina, we did things I built two bike parks in Colombia and I've done a lot of things not thinking about the money but thinking about my friends who live there, for example those from Colombia I didn't ask for a peso to do it, I did it I spent two months building it for my friends from Manzur so they had a safe place to go to ride, just that because since I went to the bike park I haven't gone to Colombia that is to say that I didn't do it for me, I did it for them

and at home I've always had things, but everything evolves and I had to change it, I made a new bike, my little nephew is improving a lot with the bike and the jumps I had for him are small so we have already changed it so that he has a little more difficulty and can raise the level, but I already tell you, he has improved a lot and I am super happy because he is training with me, so I do not always train alone

But apart I have seen the evolution of my sister, I saw the evolution and it is Uncommon, I do not know what is going to come or not Because you never know But the times of a year ago, now that's a barbarity Because we did chronos last week And I told him, you do not have to do more than 15 I did and in 3 minutes I only took 12 And I swear, I know where I get it because it is still small and it has no strength and things like that But things are jumping that I know

Neither I nor anyone my age at that age was skipping it, you know? I did 14 a week ago But it's just that it has changed a lot. Brian has known it and Brian has known it a year ago and now and he has grown a lot, he is almost as tall as me already and he also loves the bike, you know? He is studying me, getting good grades and everything but every day he is riding, every day he rides a bike

Paz chinchilla (08:43)
¿Cuántos años tiene?

It's a pleasure to see the new generations evolve so quickly. And well, more than anything, when they are so close to one another. And well, also the opportunities and the technology they have now is very different from what we had when we were children. But hey.

jordi (09:21)
Changed I have the first bike and I have it if you want to do it one day in the teaching It weighs more my bike rigid than my descent bike now of pivot hallucinates is incredible all chromoly and weighed everything was It's incredible is that I am with my friends of World Cup we have always talked about it is that now when we started

a bike with only front suspension, 3, 4, 5 cm, I don't know, in inches, but we have nothing. My nephew started with small bikes and his first bike was an old Yeti of mine and since a year and a half ago it has a Macha I think it's a Mach 6 and it's incredible you think you have everything super good disc brakes from Haze, Peabot, Schwalbe, Crumb Brothers

Paz chinchilla (10:05)
Uh huh.

jordi (10:14)
That bike is amazing, I never had that at your age, not even when I was 17 or 18 It has evolved a lot, we have the Wall S with all the bikes Chris has made And it makes the evolution And I think they were from the last 10-12 years Imagine 20 years ago, it has changed a lot It has nothing to do with it

Paz chinchilla (10:20)
See.

Yes, but it's... It's admirable and it's very nice to see it from the outside. It's very nice to see it. And it feels a little bit inspiring.

jordi (10:49)
By the way, a few weeks ago I tried my first... I don't know what it's called, a outfit set and it still works for me, it's incredible, I swear and I'm not kidding, I'm going to send you a picture so I can look stronger but I look... I said it can't be, yes but we're talking about a Mayotte from the year 91 It's amazing

Paz chinchilla (10:55)
Uh huh.

That's good!

I'm gonna go to bed.

jordi (11:15)
Thesis

Paz chinchilla (11:16)
Those are other times. I think I don't fit in what I had in those years.

jordi (11:19)
I tried it before hanging it in the garage and such that I have all the majors from the World Cup and all those championships in Spain and all those things and it is incredible that it continues to serve me. I am amazed.

Paz chinchilla (11:35)
Well, you've also had the opportunity to be on television in different parts of the world. How is this lifestyle of being in front of the camera and how do you think this benefits your career?

jordi (11:52)
Well, we are super friends and you know that I always tell you things like I don't like anything Always, always, always if I have the helmet on it's like if it was someone else I swear I'm calm, okay, I don't know what, when they take my helmet off, no you can't wear a helmet, no take off your glasses We have to repeat a lot of times unless it's live because it's like I don't know and I can't look at you I have to look at the camera and for me it's very weird

I mean, don't look at me, look at me, and there's nothing there, but there's the camera, but that's the way it is. The people I have, Carolina, who is amazing, expensive, she gets me a thousand things, she's done a lot of programs for Spien and other channels in South America, DirecTV, Winsport, Fox, RCN, Deportes, well, a lot, thanks to her. And I love doing things and being able to contribute, help, do interesting projects that aren't...

Bored to teach people how to ride, explain each part of the bike, why and why we use it, so they know if it's enduro, cross country or how to prepare a suspension, well the basics so that people can ride incredible, but I already tell you when I have to talk in front of the camera without that I don't like it, I never liked it apart between us I am what you want extroverted what but in front of the camera I am super shy I tell you really I don't like anything you know

Paz chinchilla (12:57)
Mm-hmm.

jordi (13:19)
Now because we are talking among friends, but if not, when we have had to record things There are more people who are more given to do that, I do not like it, you know But the truth is that going out on television is incredible Not only for me, but for all my sponsors, the repercussion they have worldwide We have gone out on BBC, which very few people in the world and the bike have gone out there And I made a very good documentary I have gone out on Discovery

Paz chinchilla (13:35)
Mm-hmm.

jordi (13:46)
I've been able to get Discovery and Pivot several times worldwide Everything I can do for Pivot, Chris knows, I'm going to do it all When I got to Pivot after leaving Santa Cruz, because Rob sold the company And the people who entered it were totally different from what... It wasn't as familiar as Pivot, to be honest But it was like a super closed group of runners with Rob

and that was destroyed in a year, almost all of them left and the syndicate is the part of Santa Cruz, it has nothing to do with it and what Chris did for me in his day with Rachel I said it very clearly, I will never forget it and people came to me and said, look, no, no look, it's just that I, until they throw me out of Pivot I'm not going to leave and since I know that I'm not going to leave because my family, no, but it's serious this place is incredible not only the bikes that are amazing to me

Paz chinchilla (14:23)
Mm-hmm.

I'm sorry.

Thank you.

jordi (14:47)
If it's not the people that exist, the people that we, you, that are super friends of mine Everyone, I get along with everyone and it's not just when I'm there, we talk regularly, every week, two weeks, three weeks, it doesn't matter But we are real friends, when we are together we go to dinner It's a friendship of the truth, there are many companies that are very superficial, everything Here not, here it is real, I don't know

Paz chinchilla (14:57)
Mm-hmm.

Correct.

jordi (15:15)
It's different, the treatment is super familiar, everyone gets along with everyone. I have explained many times what is the difference, for example, Pivot and Crambrode, which are my two biggest families, that's a family. They all ride bikes together, they go to eat together, they travel together. That's what makes the company work, that everything is always fine. When that's not right, there are no sales, there is no good atmosphere, there is envy. I don't know, there is no.

I've been there for 6 years and what I don't like is not remembering everyone's names because everyone talks to me and I don't remember and there are a lot of us but I always ask for forgiveness I don't remember what you know but...

Paz chinchilla (15:58)
Well, we've grown a lot. I totally agree. I've been with Pivot for 10 years and I feel the same. For me, it hasn't changed. Since 2014, which was the first time I met Chris and many of those who still work in the company, they are still my friends, my co-workers, and the relationship is super close. And well, that's the hard part, right?

We've grown so much in 10 years that sometimes it's hard for me to learn everyone's names. But well, we do what we can. And well, I'm very happy to hear those words because I think that having a relationship beyond a sponsorship with an athlete is a friendship. Because growing together is more important than anything else.

jordi (16:57)
but I tell you, I have many emails that I send in the middle of the day, whatever you want but my relationship with all of you is on the phone, calls, whatsapps, whatever, facebook, it doesn't matter because we are friends everywhere but with sponsors I can't do it because it's different but when they tell me, I don't see Pivot as a sponsor, I see him as a family

Because since the first day I talked to Chris or Rachel, it doesn't matter if it's Patrick, you, or Kellen, it doesn't matter if it's Brian They're my friends, when Brian comes to Europe and we're together, we're always together, we go to dinner together I don't know, and the relationship goes way beyond that, we share photos of when we're on vacation or whatever It's friendship, you know? And it's not to say it because you know it's true, since the first day It hasn't been

Paz chinchilla (17:45)
Mm-hmm.

jordi (17:54)
I remember the first time I met you was in the Palooza I had never slept in a store and I was like I don't want to go there Look, that was the first time we met and that was in 2019 Imagine and we've been together for several years and with everyone, with Helen it's the same we talk a lot and I don't know, we're friends, it's different

Paz chinchilla (17:59)
Mm-hmm.

Yes. It's been several years.

Mm-hmm.

jordi (18:20)
And for friends, for family, you do all the things. And not by force, it's done by will, you know? Because you're born to do it.

Paz chinchilla (18:27)
Back to your projects, this year you have a very important project with ESPN, correct? Do you want to tell us a little bit about it?

jordi (18:36)
yes for this without problem for after all the races because this year to see Olympic Games has changed the calendar now it is very tight in May and June then we have a lot of space September ends and then the idea was that we had talked to Brian was to try to boost the Latin-speaking market especially in South America

to help all our distributors, our dealers visiting their countries and doing like training camps, but different training camps looking for a young talent to support them in the 2025 season with practically all my sponsors like Cranbrothers and Pivot Principales or Pivot and Cranbrothers riding a full bike with our material

with the Manzur clothes, suitcases, helmets, all those things so that they could I don't know if live the dream that we are living but if start a dream or a career you know, to be able to have the means to be able to realize people's dreams, you know, to be able to help them and I have the great luck to count on all of you to be able to do it and as I told you, my manager, who is the bomb

I got that and we are going to visit several of the countries of South America, Argentina, Ecuador, Colombia to do these training camps and the final we will do in Colombia live with espy and not at any time but in prime time with our pivot bikes, cram brothers, well all the sponsors there and we are going to give more than a prize but the prize let's say more important it will be that a girl or a girl in 2025 will have a complete pivot bike with

All the components of Haze, Crambrothers, KMSS, Valve, Fizzik, well, all my sponsors that I have.

Paz chinchilla (20:34)
That sounds incredible and giving them the opportunity to feel and see the possibilities of the brands being there for them. It's not just buying, buying. We can also be part of a community and be there for them. Your project is very interesting and hopefully I can accompany you to Colombia. Let's see if PIVO sends us.

jordi (21:01)

Paz chinchilla (21:08)
I'm sorry.

Mm-hmm.

jordi (21:30)
I'm not going to make the decision alone because when we decided to do the final what we are going to try is that in each place we go the distributor and some rider who is with Pivot like in Argentina with Sebastian who is a very good friend of mine and but because his runners who have a lot of level are there with me and we decide look because it will be this girl this boy or this girl whatever and in Colombia the same do it well

Paz chinchilla (21:43)
Uh huh.

Mm-hmm.

jordi (21:55)
and then decide between all of us, the biggest evolution or the biggest potential has been this girl or this boy, but we are not going to do it, because this is me, no I would not like that at all, and like this, I'm not going to happen I know that sometimes it has happened, I'm not going to do it and we are going to all the people that arrive at the end they are going to leave with something clothing equipment, helmets, tires I know, pedals, whatever, we are going to give them something

Paz chinchilla (22:12)
Transparency.

jordi (22:26)
You know? That it's not just one that has it, but several. That's what I want.

Paz chinchilla (22:29)
Yes, great. I love it. Well, now that we know who Jordi is and all the plans we have for this year, let's talk about 2023. Because it was a year, too good. You had a calendar full of podiums. You were third in the Master's category of descent in Argentina for the World Champs. Third in the European Descent Championship. You reached the podium in all the Enduro races.

of the World Series, including a first place in France. And you won the series. Impressive. I mean, very, very good year. Which of all these races did you enjoy the most?

jordi (23:01)
Mm-hmm. Si. Si, si. Buen.

I told you that when we do it in English I think the best is yet to come I will understand if it is 2024 but returning to 2023 man, the best was to win in France the World Cup race that Chris did everything to get me the new Shimano engine because the truth with the other was totally impossible to win the World Cup

and we got it first. I finished my career when I met Tyler, our new director of MacDivine and I wrote to Chris. He said he knew we were going to get it. That's so you can see my relationship with Chris. I'd say it's like he was my father. Because he's always so close. I remember when I got hurt before the European championship. He said I didn't have to prove anything to him.

and that I didn't have to run he actually told me that I didn't run because I ran injured in the European that I did third which is the maximum I could breathe that day in Argentina I think I did the best downhill of my life but without a chain and I stayed super close to winning it that's the good memory I have that I did everything to win it I couldn't win it because they won me simply I had the problem of being without a chain but

won, no, nothing happens, he made me very angry because I know I had it but things that happen in life and I could not win it in the World Cup I did everything second unless the one I won I won several specials in all the races but in the power stage it was impossible for me to win it and I lost a lot of time until the udobil and then we did the last World Cup that I also won the power

very good rider from France won me a little bit of weird things because in France things always happen not only in the category of pro master which is from 35 up in elite also the one who won it does not matter I will not say who but the one who won they disqualified because instead of riding up they get on a chair But since there are many people from the World Cup recorded it and had to show it I have the videos of

the one who was running with me who did not arrive they helped him externally that you can not have me if it happens to me I stop I have lost the race what I am not going to do is mount another camera well we are going to with tubeless but mount a camera arrive half an hour late at the exit the French judges nothing happens we are not going to penalize him and win me well it was faster than me and that's it but I'm sure it happens to me

someone from Italy, Germany, wherever and they disqualify us, you know? But I was second I couldn't do anything and I won the World Cup anyway, so I don't care It's sad that things like this still happen and always in that country only in that country But well, the summary of 2023 was very good because as I told you, I ran injured in France in France, the European descent and I dragged the elbow injury

Paz chinchilla (26:14)
See.

See.

Mm-hmm.

jordi (26:38)
Until two weeks ago I was still with the tennis elbow that bothered me a lot But nothing to reproach anyone, I did everything I could I gave everything And we won a World Cup that is very difficult and that's what I was telling you all I took a backpack of rocks or stones from my back Phew, you can't imagine

Paz chinchilla (27:00)
Well, you put a lot of dedication and you train a lot to give good results and even though you were achieving them, the goal has always been to be number one. And well, I'm glad you could have achieved it last year and with new goals for 2024, training very hard to be able to achieve it. What is... Yes.

jordi (27:25)
M-more than ever, I swear.

Paz chinchilla (27:27)
What is it that you say, well you said that you have always been very competitive, but sometimes being third or maybe not reaching the podium, sometimes, I don't know, like they tease us, as they say in Costa Rica, I don't know if that's a word they use there.

jordi (27:47)
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no

Paz chinchilla (27:57)
Luchando por los primeros lugares.

jordi (27:59)
I tell you super clear and I think as I have never had the pressure of any of you of any of my sponsors none of my gasp for me says hey with everything we are doing I want you to never have done anything chris neither brian does not matter or you or nobody never told me you have to go there to run because as I am so relaxed with that I do it because I want and I know that you know nothing if I do not want to go I will not

because we have other things to do, we have other projects, we are doing whatever, helping to design whatever I think that makes it very easy I put the pressure on myself, you know? and it's a lot because I in everything I do, because of what I'm doing this week I couldn't do it in a month, but I want to do it in a week because I want to train, I want to use it to try to improve things, aspects that I think I have to improve because there is always there is a deadline to improve you always learn something

Paz chinchilla (28:39)
Mm-hmm.

Mm-hmm. Siempre.

jordi (28:56)
Every day you learn something, even from people you would never imagine, you learn You know you go, wow Or you see something, it motivates me a lot, my nephew, because He never wants to stop going by bike Come on, you have to go home, you know, you would be there And I see it and it motivates me, like, well, I'm going to train You know, we do more things together Or he gets a lot with me, sprinting I don't know, it motivates me But... I want to win, always, but I want to win at everything Always, I hate to lose

Paz chinchilla (29:01)
Mm-hmm.

jordi (29:25)
Well, hate is a very ugly word, I don't like to lose in anything In everything I do, it doesn't matter what I do, I want to do my best I mean, I'm going to get there first, but when we design something I try Or the clothes, when I design my clothes I think the clothes for 2024 is amazing But I've tried to do something that's not just the clothes, that everything is doing a match With Fox, with Cranberries, with Pivot, everything, that it's more beautiful, that people pay more attention That it always brings us more attention, more sales, whatever

Paz chinchilla (29:28)
see.

jordi (29:55)
But the race thing, I don't know, I love to race We race against ourselves, we don't do cross country and we race against everyone It's you against time, I mean, there's no excuse, it's not that It's not you, if you go faster, good, if the other one goes faster, it's been faster But I really want this 2024, I've trained, I've never trained so much in my life Now this week I've done more than 4000 kilometers since January It's a lot, but I feel super good

Paz chinchilla (30:02)
Mm-hmm.

It's great.

jordi (30:26)
It's amazing, I'm riding a bike and I enjoy it I don't know if I ever enjoyed riding a bike And I don't think I have a race, I'm training and I'm enjoying the moment I'm focused on what I do, I'm not thinking about all the things I have to do For me, the bike is like an antidote It relaxes me, it relieves me of stress, tension, adrenaline, it's everything, I swear It's amazing, it's...

That's it, I get up and do what I like the most during my whole life Thanks to my parents too, because when I started they helped me a lot But I don't know what it is Well, I don't get up every day and say, I have to go by bike You know, I don't care if it snows If it snows, I think, it doesn't snow much, let's make videos or photos And if I think, I'm going to do races that are going to rain, I have to train by getting wet Well, I do it, and that's it, there's no more, you know

Paz chinchilla (31:11)
See.

jordi (31:24)
That's it.

Paz chinchilla (31:25)
Yes, great. And well, now we've talked about downhill, enduro, e-bikes. What is the difference that you have noticed between the races when you do enduro and downhill and when you do races with e-bikes?

jordi (31:42)
Well, last year I came from the US after going to Argentina to the World Cup and I tell you the truth, there was a week that I didn't want to ride a bike because I was so... I don't know the word... Frustrated? I don't know if the word is frustrated because of what had happened and I remember that Chris told me, you have the e-bike at home and there was a week left when I came back for the Enduro World Cup

and I never had the SL but the SL is like a bike, it's an intermediate, it's a bike I use it a lot and I do 70-80 km with that bike because many times I have it stopped I don't even have it on, but it's different, a fully bike is very different and ours is a rocket, you know, it has an incredible geometry but if you compare it with the Firebird, which is, let's say, its twin soul, the sister

Paz chinchilla (32:19)
Mm-hmm.

Mm-hmm.

jordi (32:42)
Of course you can feel the weight, but... I didn't notice the difference between this bike and the normal enduro bike It's heavier, you have to get used to braking before It's harder to accelerate when you pass the 25 km per hour or the 20 miles But that's what everyone gets used to, last year was very busy deciding to do the World Cup And first we thought of doing just one World Cup, but since it went well we said no

Paz chinchilla (33:00)
Mm-hmm.

jordi (33:11)
Let's do them all, let's see what happens Because this year Chris had told me, let's do some and next year we'll do them all But since it was good, why not do one if we can do them all?

Paz chinchilla (33:21)
Yes, you were with Shuttle LT, right?

jordi (33:24)
Yes, yes, we are and I am for this year too And the truth is, the bike has now made it super mine And I ride, so you have an idea, I ride with the three bikes With the descents, with the Phoenix, with the Firebird and with the Shuttle LT Every week, at least twice with each one or more I would tell you that every day I do e-bike But I also do normal enduro and three times a week I am doing descents, like today

Paz chinchilla (33:26)
Mm-hmm.

Mm-hmm.

jordi (33:53)
I've done an hour of bike to disconnect from the world and then with my nephew we've done descent and what I noticed because I did the same downhill trail from top to bottom that with the descent you can speed up a lot more because as my bike weighs very little but it's very heavy, this bike is super well made, I swear I've tried bikes from other friends, sorry, from other brands and I can't go so fast and not one, I've tried several and

Paz chinchilla (33:55)
Mm-hmm.

And...

Mm-hmm.

jordi (34:20)
It's the same, only it has an engine, the Firebird and the Shuttle LT. That bike is incredible.

Paz chinchilla (34:27)
But do you notice any difference when you go downhill? When you have a heavier bike?

jordi (34:35)
The only thing I notice is that I have to brake before Well, you don't notice it, if you don't brake before you don't turn Because of the weight, because of the inertia But I do the same lines, I do the same jumps This week I think it was Tyler, I sent him three different videos of the weekend In the same section of jumps with Firebird doing Kronos With Phoenix and with the Shuttle LT and doing exactly the same Of course you notice the difference, you have to

Paz chinchilla (34:39)
Mm-hmm.

Mm-hmm.

different.

Mm-hmm.

jordi (35:04)
position yourself a little more with the shuttle and not pull back too much because the weight is very distributed in the middle of the bike and if you jump, let's say with the speed of the bike, not with the inertia, the position you have to have is different and on top of that you normally brake like two meters, one meter before because if not you do not enter the curve and what helps me ebike bike to descend to apply it to the descent

Paz chinchilla (35:10)
Mm-hmm.

Mm-hmm.

Mm-hmm.

jordi (35:32)
is that I can brake much later with the other because how to risk a little more I don't know, I swear I'm going on a bike and I say wow, every descent I enjoy a lot it's a complement to one another because all bikes help me improve in everything or work better all aspects for preparation of the races

Paz chinchilla (35:37)
Mm-hmm.

Before France, you had the Shimano EP8 engine. In France, it was the first time you had the EP801. Where did you notice the biggest difference between the two engines?

jordi (36:13)
The difference is huge Next week I did a good job comparing with the engine we had I remember, of course, I had Since I didn't have a story about Ebike For me it worked, when I had the bike I said wow How fast I go up, I don't know what, perfect But when we went to the Power Stage what happened was that

Paz chinchilla (36:22)
Mm.

jordi (36:42)
the other brands, the other engines that exist when in their lives the torque of the bike was infinitely well, it was huge because there were people with all the respect that were not in shape and they got on sitting and I didn't sit or stand and I had to get on pushing, you know? and it wasn't just me it happened to other people who also wore Shimano, you know? and it was

Paz chinchilla (37:05)
See.

jordi (37:09)
It was frustrating to see that you were there to play the World Cup and that you lost the game in the Power Stage and that you couldn't do anything that gave you everything and for people who are not into the competition we can only do one training session for each section we can't train it 10 times to see if we see lines in one you have to learn everything we all use GoPro, whatever the brands are

Paz chinchilla (37:32)
Mm-hmm.

jordi (37:36)
to remember the circuit because the next time we pass is a competition and there in the power stage is the same you can do a pass and you can't do anything else because there is a judge who takes your number and when you leave the stage you can't go back in of course I had never done a power stage never and I remember in the first one that I was there competing to win in the final and I left there having lost the race you know if and I remember that I wrote to Chris and said I can't do anything

Paz chinchilla (37:40)
Mm-hmm.

jordi (38:05)
I've tried everything but it can't be anything and we were in Eurobike and he told me don't worry, for the next one you have the engine and it was just right he did incredible he got me from Shimano but since we use different batteries than Shimano they arrived just right I remember, I think I told you the first day I tried the bike Shimano, USA sent me the motos, well Chris sent them but Shimano sent them

they were sent regulated for 27.5 and when I went out to try it is when I hurt myself for the European descent because the bike did not run me back, I had no strength and I remember that I wrote to Chris, Chris the bike does not run anything, but how can it be, you have put it to the top, yes of course and then they put it when returning home, we looked at it and it was clear that it did not run because it was set for 27.5 and we discovered that

Paz chinchilla (38:59)
See.

Estaba para millas, no para kilómetros.

jordi (39:04)

Paz chinchilla (39:08)
Okay, okay, let's.

jordi (39:10)
and I remember I was going with my nephew with another shuttle and my nephew, I was going at 25 and my nephew was going at 20 and I was making videos and it can't be that I go at 25 and my nephew goes at 20, there is something wrong of course, the difference in the wheels, the diameter was wrong and the bike was not running but well, when we realized, that happened on the first day and in half an hour in five minutes we realized about the speed and then the torque did not give, it did not give strength

Paz chinchilla (39:25)
See.

jordi (39:40)
But the difference between the Shimano and the new one is the difference It's very different My friends have noticed the difference in some bikes They will notice that the bike helps them a lot The good thing about this engine is that you have two options

Paz chinchilla (40:01)
Mm-hmm.

Mm-hmm.

jordi (40:09)
to have but it was more or less the same it was echo trail and boost now you don't have this but you have an option from 1 to 8 that I use it a lot to train that goes from 1 to 8 there is an echo that is the one that is for flat things like that I am always using 2 and 3 although it goes up a lot or 2 and 3 because what I want is to get strong with the ebike I do not want to go with the bust or something like that then you do not train but hey that is

Paz chinchilla (40:15)
Mm-hmm.

jordi (40:38)
like the colors you know there are many I for me the most important thing is to train there are people who have little time and need to do it like that there are other people who are not in shape for their work and go to enjoy the bike and I understand it and I respect it and I love to see more and more people on e-bikes it is great and people who cannot go before and go like my father or my mother who never went that now they can take my bikes and put something on because the age no longer allows them

do those climbs and now if you allow them that is incredible the advance is incredible and our bikes are amazing but I am training now to try to return if it is possible to win the cup of the world of enduro and I am training as best I can so when I go in the races I can save battery because it is super important to save battery and when I enter the stages it is incredible because I use greater help in the descent than in the climb

Paz chinchilla (41:10)
Mm-hmm.

Mm-hmm.

jordi (41:36)
to get out faster from the curves, to take advantage of 25km and since you're not giving them that much power, the engine doesn't have that much suffering because it's not uphill you also save. We've looked at everything with Ian, especially with this bike and with the other bike, with Kellen, we looked at absolutely everything how to improve, how to make it last a long time I told him, I think two weeks ago I sent him a message, both to Kellen and Ian that I did 90km with the Shuttle LT and I was left with

two whole lines is that he did more than 100 and with 2000 and something accumulated in his life that is amazing

Paz chinchilla (42:12)
Y esto más que todo es cuando tienes, subes en eco y bajas en boost. Okay.

jordi (42:19)
no, I never use Bus, but it's what I was telling you, I don't use those three programs, I use the other part of the engine that is from 1 to 8 to go up if you are good with 2 and 3, 4 you go up perfectly and the most important thing in the G-Bikes is to have a good cadence because that's when the engine responds better, when you go with the 7 or 8, let's say with Bus, you don't notice it because even if you go with a low cadence of 50, 60, the engine does the job

Paz chinchilla (42:24)
Mm-hmm.

Mm-hmm.

jordi (42:47)
but when you use less engine power the engine needs a higher cadence to help you I go 90, 100, 70, 80 and it helps them it's super important to know the bike super important because with these engines each person is different there is no person who is the same I give better in some push ups, I feel better, when I go with my friends on a bike

Paz chinchilla (42:54)
Mm-hmm.

Mm-hmm.

jordi (43:15)
with the d-bike is very easy because you lower levels and you go at the same time as them suffering more but with a normal bike it costs me a lot because if I go out of me each one has a rhythm of a threshold I get tired more it's incredible, going slower I get more tired but with the d-bike if you there are people who say no I go all bus ok perfect but then the battery lasts you very little instead if you know your body and you know how to ride the bike when you go up

Paz chinchilla (43:27)
Mm-hmm.

jordi (43:44)
we have 12 speeds 12 gears you have to look with each with each program that we say or speed of the shimano engine in this case which one adapts better to you and exploit that I was testing it because I did not know it and with the 3 with a super high cadence it goes up better than with the 4 and with the 5 because it goes better with my cadence and apart it saves an incredible battery that is why the new engine helps a lot

Paz chinchilla (43:47)
Uh huh.

See.

jordi (44:14)
It's better made, better help from below I think it's a before and after with the other Shimano engine People who said to me, no, I want a Peabot but when it has Bosch And I said, ok, but now with the new Shimano engine They are at the same, I'm not going to say they are the same in everything Because each engine is different, they have better in some things and better in others But this engine is, it works very well for me, it suits me, you know

Paz chinchilla (44:22)
Mm-hmm.

Correct.

Well, we've already seen the results. It's not just spoken.

jordi (44:45)
yes no the truth was very heavy because of all the poor stages no the poor stages that is for me the most complicated stage to win in ebike because it does not depend on the pilot it depends on the pilot it helps but it can be the best pilot in the world that if the engine does not help there you do not win you understand me

Paz chinchilla (45:10)
It's a set of both. And as you said, you've spent a lot of time dedicating yourself to see what's the best thing that works for your style of editing. Because not all of us are the same. And I really like how you've experimented with several things to see what's the best and it's given excellent results. And it's very...

It's interesting to see how you've worked together with other people with your feedback to improve each career as well.

jordi (45:48)
Yes, yes. No, no, it's clear. I would have never been able to do it. You know, Kellen, Ian, Chris have helped me a lot. Especially on this bike, the one we worked the most together was with Ian. With the Chatele-S that we have was with Kevin and with... And with Kevin. Kevin and with Kellen, sorry. And it was also incredible because we talked...

Paz chinchilla (45:49)
see.

Mm-hmm.

jordi (46:17)
I called Kellen, we connected the computer, we looked at everything, what do you think we can change? Go try this, try this. And with Ian it was the same. And with Ian it was more complicated because the Mac doesn't work with Shimano. And I had to connect to my parents' store at night when they were working with Ian. And he left me all the things to try, he connected me, we tried this, we tried the other. And that's what I liked the most, I got up and had a lot of settings to try.

Paz chinchilla (46:24)
Mm-hmm.

See

jordi (46:46)
and I would record it, I would try it, I had it all written down, I would send it to him when he got up, look, I've done this time there, we say this in his life, I used this, I swear we tried everything to get the maximum performance of the engine and the people, the people who have our bikes, have to do the same, look for a way to find a better pedaling

Paz chinchilla (47:09)
Mm-hmm.

jordi (47:13)
that helps you feel comfortable and enjoy the bike, which is for me the best thing in the world freedom, adrenaline fresh air in the mountains outside the cities, disconnect from the world I don't know, it has everything

Paz chinchilla (47:19)
See.

Yes, e-bikes are a new technology, so to speak, but I can't say that the bike does everything. Yes, sometimes you feel a little bit like you're cheating on your body and you're cheating, but no, it's looking for the way to...

jordi (47:36)
Mm-hmm.

No, no.

Paz chinchilla (47:58)
To keep training, to keep moving, to be outside, not just at home watching TV, stuck to the phone. That part of being outside, moving, and looking for the best setting to take advantage of the bike, the sport. Well, and for 2024 we've talked a little bit about everything you've been training.

jordi (48:02)
I-yo

See you.

Paz chinchilla (48:23)
¿Cuál es la primera carrera de este año?

jordi (48:26)
is in Seattle in the United States I come soon now right now I thought I told my mom that maybe after the podcast I was going to go up to the garage to work and my father called me that I did not answer and I was here writing my mother I am not going to go up I will go up tomorrow soon and such because we are still here that it is about 10 and 10 at night here and I still have to have dinner the first is if I have you and I really want to because it is like a test

because it's going to be with the enduro bike, with the firebird, the one we're going to race and that circuit is not very similar, but the characteristics of the unevenness are similar to the one in Australia for the World Cup and I want to race it, and what I'm going to do is train it a lot not to remember, because I already remember the circuit perfectly but to see how tired I am so that when I go to Australia I can also use it to train it better, you know?

But I'm looking forward to it. I've won three times in Otter and I want to win a fourth time. I haven't been here in two years because the World Cups in Argentina didn't coincide with it. So I'll be with some of you. With Kellen, Chris, Kevin and I don't know who else. It won't be many days because I want to go home quickly to keep training and preparing as best I can. Because I'm a person who tries to...

do every day everything the best I can, it doesn't matter what I do, cooking, helping, working, training, I try to give it all, you know, because I had an accident a lot of years ago, well, 12 years that I almost go to the other side and you know if I always try to enjoy life to the maximum every day doing what I like the most or doing it the best I can, I don't mean to do anything right.

I try to do my best and that's it. At least I'm going to sleep well because I've done what I can. But I'm really looking forward to this year and if I have the first one, then I have the final of Ligure, the first of the World Cup in Enduro, and on the same weekend I'm flying to Australia.

Paz chinchilla (50:25)
See.

La Copa del Mundo.

jordi (50:36)
World Cup and then when I come back I know I have a week but since I fly from Italy I am going to take advantage of it and I am going to go to Leogang which is the second World Cup that it will have I am going to lose the I am going to lose the first to the second World Cup in enduro which is in Poland because I have the World Cup and but hey we were doing calculations and everything and if everything goes well as they give you points for power stage and they give you points for

Paz chinchilla (50:43)
Mm-hmm.

jordi (51:04)
for every stage you do if all the other races go well I can end up having the same result as last year so we'll try, I'll do everything I can to try to win them all, if possible and if you can't do it, do it the best you can but the idea and everything I'm training that I had never trained so much and it's not so much for training but training quality

Paz chinchilla (51:33)
See.

jordi (51:34)
I've done everything I can with the e-Bolt, the Bolt, the Match 4, the Switch, I use all our bikes to train, the Shadow Cat to jump, the Point for the Puntrack I try to use everything, but thinking about the World Cup and the World Championship I'm doing everything I can to go win everything

Paz chinchilla (51:46)
Mm-hmm.

Mm-hmm.

jordi (52:01)
like everyone else, everyone who competes, like Bernal, trains as hard as he can to try to win all the races and I think one day he will also play, he deserves to win one he has been there many times too, very close and he knows what I say when I say that it is very strong that something happens to you and you can't win it but there are also the others, the others are not lame and they go fast but he also deserves it, I remember that in snowshoes he stayed half a second behind

Paz chinchilla (52:14)
Muy cerquita.

Si, muy cerca.

jordi (52:32)
I did second, but second and first are not the same. I did three World Cup seconds in 2023 and it's not the same as winning it. And I'm sure he's going to win it. It's very clear that sooner or later he's going to win it.

Paz chinchilla (52:49)
Well, I know that for you and for many athletes, when you put a lot of effort and dedication, and when everything is done from the heart and from the inside, the results at some point come. And I hope that this 2024, everything will be positive and everything will be super good so that you are at the top of the podium, celebrating.

jordi (53:17)
When I go to Australia, it's 12 hours more than Spain, and 20 more than you, when you wake up, I call you and wake you up. If we could win that, it would be... I already told you the other time we talked about winning the World Cup in Enduro, it was a surprise because we didn't want to do it.

Paz chinchilla (53:23)
Llama! Listo!

jordi (53:41)
It has to be sincere, it's not that we didn't want to do it, we wanted to enter it little by little because it was something new for all of us because nobody had ever done it and you never know what could happen the ideas, the thinking of all of us was always good but until you go and you find yourself there you don't know because I went there with no expectation of saying well, the other week I'm going to the other race, I don't know but the World Cup, yes, there are many World Cups very close

Paz chinchilla (53:41)
See.

Mm-hmm.

See?

jordi (54:12)
and by A or B it didn't come out and I've been very close three times and I don't want anyone to give me anything and I don't want anyone to have anything in Australia I want everyone to come down perfect, that if it's sunny, it's sunny for everyone, that if it rains, it rains for everyone that nothing happens and if I can win it, perfect I also tell you that it's a circuit that I was looking at and it's not one of the ones I like the most but I don't care

you have to pedal but that's fine for me but it's not that is to say you can not fail because there are no places to recover there are very few parts that you say someone is going to go slow there is only a rock garden so I don't think it makes a difference because I'm watching videos of the year last year and everyone is the same I think it is important to do all the curves well, keep the speed, go out fast when you have to pedal and down you have to pedal to the top and that

Paz chinchilla (54:51)
Mm-hmm.

see.

Mm-hmm.

jordi (55:10)
is there and with our bike that is a rocket there is no problem but hey let's see I'm going to give it all and hopefully I can win let's see

Paz chinchilla (55:16)
Well, good luck. I know that all the hard work and training will give good results. Jordi, thank you very much. It has been incredible to hear all the stories and all the types of training and how you use the bicycles. And well, for me and for our listeners, thank you very much for your time. And for everyone, don't...

algo más que quieras compartir con.

jordi (55:50)
I hope everyone enjoys the bike, which for me is... I don't know how to call it It's my life I swear, every time I get hurt I go crazy Because I can't be still, I'm super hyperactive but at my best And everything I do I try to do for the bike, you know? But... Enjoy the bike, enjoy our bikes, which for me are the best And it's not because I'm here now Because before being on Pivot I already liked it And...

And when I tried them on, I loved it. Besides, I think they are very much my style. The way I drive the bike, the way I drive it, the way I wear it. They go like... I don't know, I never wear a ring, but like a glove, the bike goes. But nothing, enjoy it, have a good time, and nothing, life is short, you have to enjoy it.

Paz chinchilla (56:35)
See.

Así es. Bueno, muchísimas gracias por escuchar y estén atentos a más episodios. Hasta luego.

jordi (56:49)
luego.
