Show Notes

Nicholas Stephanou

🌍Journey: United Kingdom -> Belgium, Australia -> Switzerland

This talk will be a bit unusual, and I hope you will welcome more variety as well. My guests were already coming from different age groups, countries, family statuses, education and work areas. Today I am also adding the gender diversity aspects, which could open an additional angle to understand the complexity of how we, expats, start a new life in a new country.

The adventure for Nicholas started when you arrive in Switzerland on the 1st of May, in the middle of street protests. And despite this first scaring impression, he stayed here for almost 7 years. Listen to our talk to hear more!

Tips from Nicholas:

  • There are no friends out there. There are only strangers, and you have to go out, put yourself into uncomfortable positions and make an effort to be a friend.
  • Be aware that we all want to build a friendship to last. Locals as well.
  • Be sure about the reason you are leaving your country of residence. Analyse carefully, if moving will solve those problems.  Some challenges stay, whenever country you are in.
