Ep 22: When Speaking Truth Becomes Dangerous: The Decision to Remove Episode 6
Hi everyone. Jenny here, host of Smells Like Teen Parent, I want to take a moment to address something important. As the creator and producer of this podcast, I've made the difficult decision to temporarily remove episode 6, titled Sex and Empowered Puberty. This episode focused on how to foster honest, inclusive conversations with teens about sex, puberty and identity. Conversations that many listeners have shared were incredibly helpful.
Speaker 0:This decision wasn't made lightly. It came after a respectful email exchange with one of the guest speakers, a healthcare provider who expressed concern about personal safety Due to recent political developments, including actions by the current administration that target healthcare professionals providing inclusive care. This guest, following legal advice from an employer, has formally revoked consent for the episode to remain public. During a phone conversation, the urgency and seriousness of the situation became clear. The guest described concerns that names and voices from public platforms could end up on government watch lists and that this creates real risk for providers, their patients and their workplaces. This is more than just a podcast decision. It reflects a disturbing truth that the rights, privacy and safety of healthcare providers and the communities served are increasingly under threat. So, in solidarity with this guest and all professionals facing similar pressure, the episode is being taken down and I want to encourage all of us to stay engaged, aware and ready to act.
Speaker 0:Here are three things you can do right now. Number one stay informed. Follow trusted news sources and civil liberties organizations tracking these issues. Knowledge is power. Two speak up. Use your voice in school meetings, in community spaces, on social media and with elected officials. Every conversation matters. Number three support providers. Donate to or volunteer with organizations defending reproductive, gender-affirming and inclusive health care. Many are working tirelessly behind the scenes. To the families and young people who benefited from episode six, thank you for listening and learning. Your feedback affirms why this work matters. And to the guest whose safety is now at risk, thank you for your brave contribution and for reaching out with care. We will continue to protect the voices that educate and empower, and we remain committed, at Smells Like Teen Parent, to creating a platform where truth and safety can coexist In community and collaboration. I'm Jenny.
