Pre-Recorded Podcast Update and Plans
Speaker 1After Hours . After Hours , after Hours . Hello and welcome to after hours . Having a little bit of technical difficulties this evening and that is why Cody is not here yet . He is Finding a light cable or something , I'm not . I'm not really sure at this point , but I just got off the phone with him so he's about to hop on . But I wanted to get started so you guys aren't just sitting Waiting around for Cody as usual . Hey , hey , look , it's my brother , everyone my brother's in the chat . Throw a comment in the chat , say hi , let us know we are watching this from this evening . And oh , I thought he was coming hold on a second .
Speaker 1Okay , so while we're waiting on Cody , as you can see I am in a different location and and my brother says I wasn't doing anything , so I just stopped , decided to stop by . If you want to hop on the call , I mean you can Fight you to do that too , if you really want , because you're also at five . So I have moved my room , my office , into a different room of the house . We've kind of been playing musical chairs with rooms and which we can get into , why we're doing that , and so I am now in this room and Hopefully the echo is not too bad . I haven't had a chance to do any sound treatment or put a rug down or anything like that , but I did Clear out all of my books that were in boxes and got them off of the floor , so that's a good thing .
Speaker 1I Am really just filling time , so if anyone wants to post any thoughts , comments , questions in the chat , melissa says that her brother was also a five . Yeah , cody's brother is also a five , so I don't know what's up with that . Is it just like the five is so strong that it Influences the other children to be five ? I don't know , justin , I I suspect Dad might be a five as well , which would make sense , and Cody's dad is a five , so maybe that's where we get our fiveness from . I Could see that .
Speaker 1Oh man , all right , so Some housekeeping here . I was not expecting to have to fill this much time without Cody , so we are just to give everybody an update on how things have been Basically . I've been really depressed for a few months and which we're talking about in this season , and so that's kind of why I went in my a for a little while . I Just needed to kind of go inward and process some things and work on some stuff , which ended up being a good thing because had a major Breakthrough with all of that a couple weeks ago . And so we , cody and I , we've recorded four episodes , I think , so far for season four and I'm telling Cody that I'm I'm live trying to stall and yeah , so we've done , we've recorded four episodes so far of I think we've got a wait . There he is .
Speaker 2It's Cody . I know you already went live . Okay , I'm like trying to change things . Hello , How's it going ? Are you sure it is fun ?
Speaker 1Yeah , oh , you're lighting looks so much better right .
Speaker 2Amazing . Oh wait , I didn't do my lights though , my fun little lights .
Speaker 1I was . I was just given Beautiful makes it makes me , makes the whole , the whole thing yeah yeah , I was giving everybody an update on , kind of where we've been , yeah , what we've been up to , and so we've recorded four episodes so far . This we have even though you haven't uploaded them yet . I have uploaded one of them , yeah , one . I told you to tell me if that was going to work before I uploaded the rest of them .
Speaker 2Oh , right , yeah .
Speaker 1So we've oh yeah , we do have kind of matching backgrounds , that's , we also have the exact same lights in the background , which is another part of it .
Speaker 2Oh , yeah , yeah . Yeah , yours looks better than mine . Do I look grainy to you ? I'm shiny , just I need some makeup . These lights are too much .
Speaker 1And then we've got . We started doing this thing , justin . Justin says Cody's too busy drinking at his new job .
Speaker 2Also got this mic that's not my normal mic because I realized I had a recording mic Connected to this and I was like shit , you know , it'll be fine , I was already late .
Speaker 1I was like dammit , whatever next time I go over there I'm gonna have to bring some booze home because I don't have any . All right , so we're doing this new thing this season and we , anytime we record , like we'll stop recording and then we'll end up like talking for the next hour and often , like you know , almost like a retroactive oh how did that episode go ? And like , but then from that we're like , oh , I should have said this and I should have said that , and then we can do a whole conversation about it , a whole conversation . And and then , you know , part of the intention of doing after hours was to to kind of talk about that . But it's so much like . There's so much time is passed between and after hours and when we record , usually , yeah .
Speaker 1So we decided to just start hitting record , just audio , only after we're done and we're calling it after thoughts and so that'll be just for the community . And we did that with this last one and I thought it went really well and it's there's something I don't . It's weird , like , what we're doing is we're going to kind of do what we do with after hours , where we we just posted unedited and it's very unstructured and there's something about that that there's there's no pressure , I guess , in it and it's much more casual .
Speaker 1And so it's . I know different things come out in the conversation , I guess , and so I'm excited about that . I think Melissa says that ruminating about conversations is a five thing , yeah .
Speaker 2I mean it is true , though Like it's crazy how , how much we say when we hit stop , and I mean that's honestly . I mean I don't . I don't know how how it got on that conversation . It was some point where I was talking about how we basically talk whole episodes afterwards and I'm like we could have just done like the other night . I was like we should do two episodes and then you're like I'm not going to have the energy for that , and then we talked for two hours after we got done and I was like we just did like three episodes worth of information , and so , yeah , I mean , I'm excited about that part of it actually
Speaker 2because we basically we didn't really talk about it that we were going to do it , but I just hit record when we got done because you were sitting there and I could tell that you were like the gears are still turning . So I was just like record . And what's great about not having the cameras that we've never used video is that we're always like sitting . I think we just know we're on camera . So you sit differently and you , just you , you conduct yourself a little bit differently , although you , you , you are giving me social , the social , the access to the social , so I can run them . So that might be right . I'm going to get all the video . I fixed my Facebook situation .
Speaker 2I don't know if you got that or not , but anyway , but we I noticed immediately how much easier it was to talk on the afterwards , because immediately I sat back in my chair like this and I'm just like , oh OK , now we can just like sit here . And now I'm just sitting here , now we can just like sit here and not really think about it . But then also to like there's something about talking in a microphone with headphones on , like it's , it's so isolating and it's very . It's a lot easier for me to focus on the conversation rather than getting distracted . So it's , it's really nice . Yeah , yeah , it's fun .
Speaker 1So we're doing that this season . We are we Cody and I haven't actually so we met on Sunday to work out some of these kinks of trying to get the episodes edited and start talking about like the some of the social stuff . The thing that we didn't actually get to because we got really hungry and end up going to brunch was was we're like an actual launch date for the season , but we can talk about that now , which you know we're we're aiming probably for probably do something similar to what we did last year , which is like a September ish launch . I think we should . We should be able to pull that off Because we've already got like pretty much almost half the season done .
Speaker 1The other , the other conversations we're going to have , we're going to pull in Sam for a couple , at least a couple of those , and maybe another guest or two that we haven't talked to before yeah , and I'm excited about that and branching out into like almost like a little bit more , five adjacent topics . In some of them , like the one we just decided to do on Sunday , was futurism , and so we're going to talk to an actual futurist and I think that will be really cool .
Speaker 2Yeah , which which spawned out of the what was the episode ?
Speaker 1Oh , so I want to do an afterthought on the politics . So we recorded , all right . So what we recorded so far is commitment , which is really ironic because right after the commitment thing is when I just like stopped all of my commitments because of what was going on with me and and then and we recorded politics , which was like a two and a half hour conversation , and then we record what was the hold on . I've got the list here . I remember politics really well . Yeah , low fives about depression .
Speaker 2Oh low fives yeah . Yeah , and then the last .
Speaker 1The last one that we recorded was we called it convenience versus connection , and so that's kind of been . It was almost like a follow up to the depression conversation and just unpacking everything that's been going on with me . Yeah , and that that episode , the video stopped , I guess , like the video file got corrupted like two thirds of the way through and so I can't actually save it . So it's still like open on my computer . I'm trying to figure out if there's a way that I can get it to work . So I don't know how that's going to work .
Speaker 2Yeah , we recorded the audio . Yeah , yeah .
Speaker 1At least we have the audio and so you know we'll see how it goes with that one , but that's yeah . So we've got those four episodes so far .
Speaker 2And hey , for everybody watching because we've done low fives , high fives is officially coming . It's on the list . We've been talking through logistics of it in the last couple of weeks . So now we're going to do it and what we're going to take . So we'll see what comes out of that one .
Speaker 1So we've got like I got the list here . I'll go ahead and just go through what we're talking about if anyone's interested . So some of the other potential things that we might we might do for the season is getting to siblings and family , which my brother's here , so we can adjust and we could bring our brothers on , and the thing that I'm I'm the conversation I'm probably looking forward to the most is the conspiracy theories , one I've rent myself up to actually really be looking forward to that . I think doing the politics episode helped me , just because a lot of the stuff is things that have been . It's like mind maps that I've been building in my head for the last couple of years and I haven't really had a chance to get them out holistically in any form that can make sense to other people , and so I didn't know how that was going to go .
Speaker 1And then potentially one about being on the spectrum . Given Cody's kind of recent diagnosis and how so many people in the community seem to be neuro divergent , we thought a fun one might be , since we're going to be releasing in the fall , doing one about spooky things or paranormal . We want to bring in Sam to talk about levels of health and then I'll go in that one . What's that ?
Speaker 2Finally doing that one .
Speaker 1It might not allow you ?
Speaker 2Yeah , you're a little low , really . Okay , I couldn't decide . Let me crank up this , all right , how's that ? Oh , yeah , that's much better .
Speaker 1And then we're going to try to see if we can bring in an astrologist , like it was a five , and do an episode on astrology , just because we're really curious about it and like what are the , is there anything to it and what are the helpful things from it , and how do they kind of relate to the enneagram ? So that could be a fun conversation . And then the futurism was the other one that we had on there . So , yeah , that's what we're looking at for this season .
Speaker 2Yeah .
Speaker 1If there's anything that stuck out to you in that list that you're excited about , let us know .
Speaker 2Drop comments in . Is there anything we missed ? Oh yeah , we , that's not that's .
Speaker 1That's not our full list of ideas . Those are just the ones that we had sort of zeroed in on for this season
Future Podcast Episodes
Speaker 1.
Speaker 2Yeah , yeah , I'm excited about it . A conspiracy theories has got me like I'm glad you're excited about it . I feel like it's either going to it's like a make or break episode . It's going to be the episode where , like you , tank any reputation we ever had and we become like I don't know just another , like Joe Rogan or like you mean you mean the most listen to podcast in the history of podcasting .
Speaker 2Yeah , but I don't like Joe Rogan , so I don't want to be like Joe Rogan , um , but yeah , no , like you know , just like saying shit , I don't know , I don't know if that'll fly with the entire group of fives , where a lot of them are scientists . So you know , it's like I don't know , we'll see . I don't know , Um .
Speaker 2I'm excited to talk about it . Um , because of what how I know we're going to approach it and talking about like conspiracy theories as a whole , because I've done a lot of like reading into and I'm really fascinated by why people believe in conspiracy theories and why psychologically that is like such a big thing and has become bigger over the last like few decades . So that's kind of a fun topic to talk about anyway . But yeah , it'll be , it'll be fun . I'm excited about it . Um , I'm , you know it's actually the one that I'm the most nervous about .
Speaker 2Not , I won't say nervous , um , the most um , I don't know what the word is . Not , I'm not really like I don't care anymore about like how it , how something is going to go , because it almost always goes well , except for that one episode where we got 10 minutes in with like what the fuck are we doing ? Like I don't even know what this is about , and so we , um , we say uh , we , yeah , anyway , it's uh , it . That was the only one that was kind of dead end and everyone else . It's like it always ends up being a good conversation . But the high fives , like I have no idea we're going into that with no . Well , you probably actually have an idea of what you're going to say or like what direction you're going to go .
Speaker 1Well , here's the thing I , I , you know , I think in , uh , probabilities Right , and I know that there's a high probability of the stuff that will come out if you get put a microphone in front of me while I'm high and , uh , it's going to get real weird . It's going to get real fucking weird . Um , but yeah , I , I , I can see . So the conspiracy theory one , the reason why I'm excited about it , because I actually have a framework that I wanna talk through and I think it's fun and I'm really curious to hear what you think of it , and so that one will be good . But yeah , I'm nervous about the high five one too . And the great thing is , hey , guess what ? Like , we don't have to release it if we record it .
Speaker 2We might be on the next after hours . Be like guys , you're sorry , that's never happening , I do not wanna , but if we did that , then everybody would wanna hear it .
Speaker 1Then we'd have to release it .
Speaker 2That's really true , so it's gonna have to come out one way or the other . Maybe I'll just heavily edit it . Edit , edit it .
Speaker 1I don't know . That might be one of the ones that we just need to like leave as unedited as we can .
Speaker 2Yeah , no , it probably . It depends on how long it is . Well , that's true .
Speaker 1That's another problem . Yeah , I could like , like college . Next episode was almost two hours I thought it was like two and a half . It was two and a half hours , it was the longest episode we've ever recorded .
Speaker 2It somehow beat religion , oh man .
Speaker 1Yeah , you can respect even Myersenmon or something you aesthetically dislike . That's true , yeah , and then Rob and Seth it's nothing else to make fun of you both . So , yes , they wanna listen to it , just so they can .
Speaker 2Oh hi , bobz , yeah , yeah , no , it'll be great . It'll be great . I guess it just depends on how high we're gonna get you know like that thing , Because like and we've never been high together . No , no , we haven't actually .
Speaker 1I don't know how that's gonna go either .
Speaker 2Yeah , Because I've been . I've been high a lot in the last couple of years and I don't know how we've never been high together .
Speaker 1Well , because I've only ever been high with Amy , but not her being high , but like at home , like , except for one exception which has freaked me out a little bit , which was I got .
Discussing Cannabis Experiences and Recent Purchases
Speaker 1Well , I don't know if I wanna say it publicly , it was a trip , Literally and figuratively .
Speaker 2Yeah , I mean , my thing is , like , with things like that's legal , you like weed , I don't know , I just my kind of high , for that is not very fun , like I just don't , I'm not very talkative and it tends to like just bring me down a lot , not emotionally , just kind of physically I'm like . So I don't know , I'm considering maybe I just won't mention what I'm doing , like if it's illegal I'll just be like I'm on things .
Speaker 1I think that's fine .
Speaker 2Yeah , because I definitely I know what I wanna do , I know what would be the most fun for sure .
Speaker 1Yeah , I'm probably just gonna do the same thing that I always do , which is the Delta 8 THC . Yeah , because it's legal and it's predictable for me .
Speaker 2Yeah , yeah , for sure it's nice . I mean I know a guy who grows THCA for a lot of the CBD places around here and it's really good stuff and he does both the strains , the sativa and the indica , so it's nice to have . Like you know , it's gonna be an upper , so it's not so much of like gonna put me to sleep , but I've also found that smoking it is better than eating it . If I have edibles , it's like I'm not okay , Like I am a puddle of a human being . There's no talking , Like I would be able to get words out of my mouth . It'd be like me drinking two bottles of whiskey or something . I'd be like no , no .
Speaker 1Like there's no , don't put a mic in front of me , so this is gonna be really interesting .
Speaker 2I don't know how this is gonna go .
Speaker 1All right , well , do you want to do ? Well , that kind of sums up what we've been up to and what's going on with the season . Do you want to do red , yellow , green ?
Speaker 2Sure , yeah , you want me to go first . You always go first . That's how it works . Yeah , just THC mix with anxiety meds . Yes , yes , they do . That is part of it . Yeah , they that's interesting , you say that they .
Speaker 2I won't feel anything for like three or four hours after I take an edible , and then I mean literally nothing and I'm like , well , that was a waste of money . And then it hits me all at once , 10 times the strength of what I took . And so I remember I was visiting my brother in Colorado and I got he gave me a 10 milligram seltzer water and 12 ounce can , just seltzer water . That's all it was . And I drank it , thinking oh , this'll be fun , we're about to go out on the water . We were going paddle boarding the whole afternoon , felt zero things . Everybody else was high as a kite . I was like not feeling anything . I was like I don't know what that was like , but it didn't work , like it must have been just like CBD , like nothing . It didn't feel any effects . And then we got back and I could not . I felt like I couldn't walk and when I tried to say words it was like , you know , it's like imagine having like an insane amount of peanut butter in your mouth while you're trying to talk . You know , I was just like it's like . I was literally tranquilized . I felt like that's what it was , like I couldn't really feel my face and my mouth was way too heavy and my tongue was heavy and I couldn't get words out . And I was thinking I was saying words and everybody was looking at me with blank faces like what is wrong with you ? And I was like stumbling everywhere and couldn't walk and I felt like I was like 500 pounds heavier than I was . I mean , it was , I hated it . I hated it so much I went and slept it off and , yeah , it was really bad . So , and then I've had something similar to that happened two other times , and so I was like no more edibles , I will not do that . It has to be my meds , cause I was reading about it and it's like , yeah , and somebody who was in that industry was like it probably is some kind of medication you're taking , because that's not normal . And so , yeah , won't do that anymore . But yeah , other things , shrooms don't bother me at all . So , yeah , all right , we had red , yellow , green . I am , I think I'm green . I'm green today .
Speaker 2I just got this mic and I got a really good deal on it . It's like a $400 mic and I bought off somebody a Facebook marketplace for $120 . I actually thought I was getting scammed but I was willing to take the risk and so cause it was like it had payment protection . They were willing to do it through the Facebook payment system . So I was like I mean , I'll get my money back if it's not right . So I just did it and it got here and it's literally in perfect condition and is exactly what I wanted and I spent the evening yesterday kind of playing with it and seeing what it could do and I recorded some guitar and singing with it and it sounded a hundred times better than anything that I've ever recorded in my house and I was like , wow , this is actually really amazing .
Speaker 2So , yeah , I really pumped about it . Also , like for such a cheap mic , it like it competes with mics like three times its price . People really love it . There's a lot of artists that use it , so that's why I got it and now I'm just nerding out on gear . But I it very much brightened my mood for the week because I've been playing .
Speaker 2I've been doing that and just like playing in logic and trying to do some different things and tweak things to figure out what I can , kind of what I can do , so that if the , if , the , if I'm forced at some point to basically just release acoustic songs of things I want to be , I want it to be like good quality , like professional quality . So I'm trying to get . I've been slowly piecing together things where I can do that here and , yeah , I think I'm just about there . I need a couple more things , but but yeah , I'm gonna do that on the side , while also pushing money alongside other people into my GoFundMe for the EP , which , yeah , we're in hour , we're starting to make a little headway there . I'm at almost 3,500 . I only need 5,000 . So like that's making me happy . I'm like we're over , we've gotten over the halfway point . I just need that last little push . And so I've been really thinking about a lot of that . But all that to say , like basically my job during the day has gotten exponentially easier , or at least not necessarily easier , but takes less time and has allotted more time for me to do these kinds of things and think about these kinds of things . So I've been spending a lot more time in creative mode each day , which has benefited me greatly , both emotionally and in terms of production , production , just overall being productive and actually getting things done . So that makes me feel good and yeah , I mean that's pretty great .
Speaker 2I had a bunch of gigs lined up and they all kind of fell through , so that kind of sucked . But a lot of them are outside and I didn't want to play it anyway . Well , there you go , because it's literally 100 degree heated . I have a gig I have to play on Friday . So my , my , uh , my , your radio agreeing it will be read after Friday . I know , cause I got to play out and if the heated X is supposed to literally be 100 , I'm going to be playing for three hours outside , so that will be very miserable .
Speaker 2And I do not . I don't do heat well , like I just don't . I hate it so much . Um , and I sweat . Like you know , it's like I'm one of those people that , just like I pour sweat and so I always like take a really good shower before I go and play so that at least it's clean sweat I guess . But like , uh , I just hate it . I hate the way it feels . I hate sweating for like six months out of the year . Um , so , for me to be green in the middle of the summer and one of our hottest weeks ever , I'm , I'm feeling pretty good . It's a big deal . What about you ? What are you today ? I am green , oh my God .
Speaker 1We did it again . We did it again Greens across the board .
Speaker 2Yeah , I mean I'm considering .
Speaker 1I've I've mostly been green , you know , since , uh , a couple of weeks ago , when I had what I will describe as , uh a Christmas care all night , where I , uh , I , oh my God . Robin says I wish our heat index was 100 . It was 108 today , bluh Were you at again .
Speaker 2I think she's .
Speaker 1I think she's in . Uh well , I'm not going to say oh yeah .
Speaker 2Unless she wants to share . Um uh south south of us , south of us , yeah .
Speaker 1Um , yeah , so I I had this experience which we talked about in the last episode we recorded , so I won't you know go into too much depth here , but um , I just uh .
Speaker 2Dallas fourth worth is where she's not really south , like very west south , that's like , yeah , that's the worst .
Speaker 1Yeah , um , so I , I had this night where I sort of saw my past , present and potential future in a completely different light and , uh , realize this , how I was creating this sort of alternate reality , um , and I didn't even realize it and it all kind of shattered and , uh , I had one of the big things that came out of that was realizing that I had a lot of healing to do , still , um , from things from my childhood especially , and um , and also the process of going through that was really healing as well , and um , changed a lot of stuff with my relationship
Changes, Office, Travel, and Charleston
Speaker 1with Amy . And then we made some big changes , one of which I was talking about this office . This used to be the kids room . Um , my office used to be in the master suite , and so now the kids are in there . I'm sleeping in there with them as well as Amy and um , it's been a really , really great change in helping me feel connected , um , among other things , like putting my phone down and uh , deleting Twitter and and uh , just , you know , stopping the things that I was doing to distract myself from myself , um , but were causing me to be to spiral and be more depressed and um , and so , like I , I don't know .
Speaker 1I I kind of hate this analogy , but it's the best one I could think of where I feel like I uh , it's almost like I was an alcoholic who finally got sober and thought he was a fun drunk but realized he was kind of an asshole . Um , and so that has been my last couple of weeks , um , but it's been really good because I've actually got into a place where I've finally let myself enjoy life , which sounds kind of absurd that I wasn't before . Um , and I've been spending time with the kids and Amy and um , and it's just been wonderful . And now I've um .
Speaker 1I've got one more day of work left before I go to Miami with uh one of my best friends from high school and we're going down there to just chill because I haven't gotten to hang out with him one-on-one in years and uh , it's going to be good . I'm really looking forward to that . Yeah , green , super green , I guess .
Speaker 2That's fun . Yeah , I um , I need . I need a trip out of this city , so bad .
Speaker 1Well , we're going to get one with your bachelor party , yeah , Um , which which I realized . Hey , I should be the one planning that , not you . Yeah .
Speaker 2Yeah , I . But I was honestly afraid no one was going to . So I was like maybe I should say something , because I was , I was honestly wasn't sure if I don't know , I didn't know if anybody even would want to do it . Like I don't know , it's weird , but like maybe it was just in my own head , I wasn't really thinking about it very much . But Madison has this whole thing planned and it's like a big thing and they've been making a big deal about it and all of our friends have been been super excited about it and so , um , and then it was like I was talking .
Speaker 2I was talking to my son . I'm like how much do you like saving for this trip ? And I was like what ? She was like what do you mean ? And I was like like how much do you like play on spending , like with where you're staying and everything ? And she was like you usually don't pay for where you're staying , like that's usually you . It's like tradition that you split it up with everybody else . And I was like oh , do you think they know that ? And she was like they probably know that . And I was like , okay , well , I guess that changes things a little bit . Like I want to make sure everybody's coming .
Speaker 2I invited my dad because , honestly , like I I mean he's always been fun to hang out with and everything but like when I got to spend one on one time with him when he was coming here like on a and he was he was here for like a whole month and a half and I was spending a day a week with him because he was coming down here to do his laundry and stay and he would stay with me that night and it was a time where I had a gig and then we'd go to my favorite bar and hang out and he met like all of my friends because it was a huge like industry bar . So everybody there is , like I knew them , and it's in a house , like it's the bar . That's like built out into a house or whatever . So we literally sit on the front porch of this bar and just like sit and hang out with people until one or two in the morning and talk and everybody loved him so much and like he became like kind of a staple . Everybody was really sad when he went back and and so I was like you know one , I would love to do that . I think he would really love that being invited anyway and he would probably really want to come .
Speaker 2And then two , I just I think it would be legitimately fun for him to be there , because he literally does not , like he does not stop partying these days , especially since he moved to Florida . All he does now is drink smoke and ride his golf cart around high and drunk , like saying hey to his friends . Like they are so different there . It's wild to me . Like they go out like almost every night or they have people over , they hang out , they have a family staying there and then as soon as my family leaves , they have friends coming and staying with them . Like I'm just like , well , what is this ? This is how you guys I heard tales of this before I was born . I didn't know you guys would get still had it in you , you know . But so , yeah , I think that'll be a lot of fun , but but yeah , I don't know it's it's .
Speaker 1I don't know if it seems to be that everybody voted for Charleston and I need to vote , yeah , yeah , but I'm trying to get like a week's worth of work into three days .
Speaker 2Yeah , but in typical five fashion . I put polls in there because I don't want to have to talk about it . I just want everybody to tell me what they wanted to do without having to have a conversation about it . So I put in the dates and I put it . That's one poll . And then location pretty much everybody exclusively voted for Charleston out of all the places because I consider going down with the goal for going whatever . But are you wanting to ?
Speaker 1fly or are you wanting to drive ?
Speaker 2Drive .
Speaker 1Charleston is kind of hard to drive , isn't it ?
Speaker 2It's like six and a half hours . It's not that bad . It's really Okay . Yeah , I used to drive there all the time . It's not bad .
Speaker 1Look at us and it's cool , and it's cool , and it's cool If you want to .
Speaker 2I thought about Asheville but I was like I can't drink beer and that's what's there . That's the big thing in Asheville , and I just feel like I would just be sick the whole time because it was suggested and I was like I do love Asheville , but I think I love Asheville in the fall , not in the summer , and even though it would be cooler there , probably because of the
Dates, Bachelor Party, AI-Generated Titles
Speaker 2rain .
Speaker 1When are we doing this ? I guess I need to look at the polls .
Speaker 2You need to look at the group . I don't know if the group actually tells you , though , what they voted for . I can tell you it's .
Speaker 1I love how we're doing this live with an audience right now . Yeah .
Speaker 2Like anybody actually cares . Yeah , Charleston got most of the vote 80% of the vote and the date is actually the one that everybody wants is August 26th . It's kind of split between August 26th and September 30th , but I don't know if September 30th actually works for me anymore .
Speaker 1Yeah , I don't know . September 30th would be the best for me and it would be cooler .
Speaker 2It would be cooler . Well , yeah , it would be cooler , but yeah , september 30th is yeah probably . I would like to do it then , but we'll see . Yeah , I just think so , so he cares . Justin , you want to Thanks ?
Speaker 1Justin . We have to invite Justin to the bachelor party .
Speaker 2I'm saying you want to come to the bachelor party . You can . I would go 100% be okay with that . I don't know if Josiah would , though oh , of course Justin's a lot of fun . Yeah , I'm not inviting my brother .
Speaker 1We need to invite our other brother too , I know .
Speaker 2What's the other brother ? What's the other brother ? You have another brother , oh , one of your . Okay , I was like , who are you talking about ? Another from another mother , like Nope , same mother , different brother .
Speaker 1starts with a J as well , though . Yeah . This conversation has really come down .
Speaker 2Yeah , we had stuff to talk about it and then we didn't . So we've always seen each other a lot more lately , so it's like , yeah , that's true , it's harder to have after hours when we're actually hanging out in person .
Speaker 1You know what's funny ? One thing that I did I forgot to after the last after hours that we did . I forgot to upload it to Buzzsprout or hosting platform . I don't know if anyone noticed this , but I when I did to do that today or yesterday , I think it was today they have a new feature where they bring in AI and when you upload an episode it gives you title suggestions and writes a description for you and like a transcription and chapters and things . So I just let it do that , just to see what it would do , and then I just kept it and it's pretty funny . It should go , because it sounds very , very kind of cheesy , marketing-y Love that Must have been chat GBT3 .
Speaker 1Yeah , it's like hold on , I'll read it to you I .
Speaker 2Is just I a freezing for anybody else ? I feel like you've been my whole time and now you're like really cutting out and freezing . I'm trying to figure out if it's me or man you , it might be me .
Speaker 1I don't have the best Wi-Fi in this room . I've got to figure that out , oh .
Speaker 2Yeah , I'm like are you ready Okay . So the last after hours .
Speaker 1The title that it gave me was transitioning careers , travel tips and tackling midlife challenges .
Speaker 2Oh , hell yeah . I'm going to I think I'm going to do this . Written by AI yeah .
Speaker 1Ever felt a nagging sense of dread going to work . That was me stuck in a toxic job and feeling like every day was an uphill battle . It took a lot of courage , but I finally decided to give it all up and found myself back in a familiar industry alcohol distribution . Boy , what a ride it's been .
Speaker 2Oh , that's so good . I love that . Oh , my god , oh man , what is that ?
Speaker 1No , no there's all , there's a whole , like there's three paragraphs you have to . You have to go read it . I posted in the in the community , in the , in the live streams , in the premium community , and it's fantastic . So from now on , all of our after hours , the titles and descriptions will be AI generated .
Speaker 2And I'm excited about that . Yeah , that's so good . Not our real podcast , but just the after hours , right , yeah , yeah , that's , that's really funny . It's funny how I like they really . I mean it really picked out the details , though . It's just funny how it's . It's like it's more like how you would have written something for , like content heroes .
Speaker 1Yes , right and yes , or or it's like . It's like the opening monologue to a TV episode .
Speaker 2You know like that sort of thing . Yeah , yeah um , like the voiceover I'm making Madison watch arrested development for the first time right now and I was , I was , I was if he on whether or not she was gonna like it , but she's been like laughing pretty hard at it . I'm like , all right , cool , this is gonna be good . And I've been watching it back and it's so funny it's . I forgot how funny it is , like it's so good . I never watched the last two seasons but I was like terrible .
Speaker 2I was like we can stop at three , we don't need to watch , because I tried to watch for and it was so bad , so bad . But I realized that , um , um , arrested development . I don't know , you haven't seen it , so maybe if anybody else has seen it here , um , I'm sure somebody has , because , uh , if there's anybody seen the show succession , because it's literally like it's , I think it's like a kind of a five show . It's a five a show . It's really dark , it's really cynical , it's really it's like all of the worst of humanity in one show and then like a really entertaining and dramatic way , um , and uh , what I realized is is the family and succession . It's , it's wild , the similarities between succession and arrested development .
Speaker 1See , robin knows this sounds like a total 90s intro to a really bad comedy .
Speaker 2Yes , yeah , I mean I wasn't paying . I was , I was like half reading that and I was like 90 second intro to a really bad 90s . Yeah , I get it .
Speaker 1Um . So I would never have drawn the parallels between Uh , arrested development and succession , but it totally makes sense because I did . I did watch the first episode .
Speaker 2Yeah , it's amazing how close it is , like that's so funny . You watch all of succession and you think about arrested development . It's kind of hard to take it seriously because of how much , how close it is . Like the older brother In succession is like he knows he's the eldest and he like pulls that card all the time at random times . But it doesn't ever make sense . Everybody's like you're basically not even in this family , like what are you talking about ? And they never acknowledged him as the brother because he's so he's a lot older and he's never he's , he wants nothing to do with the company , didn't want to take over anything . And then you find out it's basically because the dad never even acknowledged him as human being and so it's like it's . It's so , it's joe , like he's joe and um Illusions . My god , yeah , he's like . He's like I could have been , I could have been ahead of the company . He was like well , why didn't you want ? He's like ? I didn't want . It's like .
Speaker 1Oh , no spoilers .
Speaker 2Yeah , I'm not spoiling anything . You can watch the trailer for that show and see all of these dynamics . Um but um .
Speaker 1I'm not like , I'm just saying the end . Uh , this chat GPT really strikes me as a Pandora's box . That is , uh , a good topic for our futurism discussion , for sure .
Speaker 2Yeah , it will come up because we're all thinking about it . I've I've actually been working with chat GPT extensively , with things . I used it for my last job in in wild ways and kind of redefined how the team worked , um , but so Melissa's not seen , I mean Robin has not seen uh succession or or . You need to watch rest of development first . You should watch rest of development first Um and just the first three seasons Just yet or you could even get away with the first two seasons .
Speaker 1The third one starts to go downhill .
Speaker 2Oh , but yeah , but they I mean on young , that's in season three , that's season three , I thought that was season two , and when you find out , like the full , Okay , yeah and that's the best . I love it so much . Um , yeah , watch the first three seasons , don't watch the last two . That's when netflix brought it back 10 years later and it was not worth it .
Speaker 1Oh , um , it was so bad . It was really really sad to to see them try to like Relive it yeah .
Speaker 2I wonder you know what's crazy to me ? Do you know who directed a rest of development Right ? No , he wrote it and he merits it . He's not who directs it , it's the russo brothers . What , yeah , it is the russo's .
Speaker 2I would not have had that in mind and I was like there's no way they brought them back for the last two seasons Because they were way too big . They'd that point . They were post-Avengers and like all the things they've been doing . There's no way that they came back . And that might have had a lot to do with it . Honestly , maybe they didn't bring back the whole crew , but , um , man , I could not .
Speaker 2When I saw the credits I was like what this show ? But yeah , it's pretty great , it's um , I've been really laughing . I mean , I just finished parks and rec . I needed something new that was like lighthearted , a caricature of real life , so that I could laugh at something , because parks and rec was so much funnier than I remembered it being . Oh , yes , there was .
Speaker 2There was two times I like to watch TV when I'm going to bed and Madison has already been in a coma for two hours and she sleeps really hard , but , like usually , I've learned this about her is that her rim cycle is exactly two hours , like almost to to the minute , and so , like she easily can wake up after two hours and like Get up and get some water , I use the bathroom , go to bed , go back to bed and then immediately fall back to sleep , and when she takes naps in the middle of the day , she also does it for exactly two hours . It's the weirdest thing . She sleeps less than that . She's exhausted and hates her life . Um parks and recs my favorite show , honestly , justin . This is why we're brothers , because parks and recs my favorite .
Speaker 2That's why your brother Only reason the only reason it's I um , you know it's funny , I was . I like the . The . The end to the office gets me a lot more and I say I think that I think of the office is having two endings when Steve Carell left and when the actual end happened . They are better endings in terms of like pulling out , pulling at my heart strings . I always like , always get emotional watching them , um , and I think that the story in some ways , like some characters really brought me in where others didn't . But parks and recs Is the most well-rounded and better written show and I never thought about before but seeing it again because that's the character , the .
Speaker 1The thing that I love about parks and rec Is they did a really great job of keeping the characters true to themselves , while while he's slowly evolving them and there's actual character development . But they , they didn't . For the most part , they didn't get into like where they become a caricature of themselves and and stuff like that . I felt like they , they did a good job . Yeah , that's true , that's true , they did a good job , yeah that's true .
Speaker 2That's true . They did do that , um , except for maybe jerry gary larry .
Speaker 1Yeah , that's what I was saying . There's some little small exceptions in there .
Speaker 2Yeah , but I will say I mean , yeah , parks and rec is also sillier in some ways than the office . Like the office took the mockumentary thing a little more seriously , whereas parks and rec was like never really going to be a real thing you know , like you always looked at it as like this isn't real life , um but um .
Speaker 2But parks and rec's ending Is really well-rounded and kind of ties everything together . I think what parks and rec has over the office is that what ? What would we think of the office of steve correll didn't leave ? What if he stayed until the very end ? You know , like , could it have been different ? You know , Because I think the thing is parks and rec , they didn't lose anybody until they got all the way through the end without losing a single actor .
Speaker 1That's a good point . I hadn't thought about that , so they had a lot more to work with . Even even when uh , even when , what's his face ? Became star lord , he still came back to parks and rec for the next Like and they made a huge joke at the . That was brilliant .
Speaker 2Getting really good shape . It's so funny . Yeah , he like stayed there the whole time and he was only supposed to be . I mean , chris pratt was never meant to be a main character and that was so funny to me that he was only supposed to be in the first few episodes .
Speaker 1Yeah , robin says ask me about severance or devs . We watched devs . I've not seen severance .
Speaker 2Severance is Like mind-blowingly good . I was shocked how much I love that show . Um devs is is really great severance and devs are very similar to me , like in my mind . They sit side-by-side with each other , side by side .
Speaker 1So jesson says it's interesting watching a show and rewatching after growing up a bit and realizing how toxic some of
Discussion About TV Shows and Recommendations
Speaker 1the characters are . Jim from the office was my favorite , but now he seems just seems like a dick I I agree with that , like .
Speaker 2I Well , and that like jim newer , yeah , the office , I think was interesting like pamp either , to be honest . Yeah , I didn't like either one of them . Um , you know , it's like what , going back and watching it , like they were , they were really good . Um , it was a good story arc , but like , yeah , you care so much more about dwight and I did anyway , and he has a better story and um and yeah , but then you have a lot of side characters and so that just kind of fills space .
Speaker 2I will say this the most entertaining way to watch the office for me was recently . This is what got me to watch parks and rec again actually is because I these are the kind of shows that I love to watch when I'm going to bed , because I won't stay awake . It'll put me to sleep and it's so like light-hearted . It's easy for me to wind down if so , if I don't have something that I want to read or something . That's the best kind of show , and so . But I started watching the superfan episodes on peacock . They have , it's the super fan episodes . They've been putting them together . They have six seasons out right now for the office . It's every single episode , but it's the extended version with all of the scenes they cut out for the TV , so every episode is almost an hour long , whoa , and it is so much funnier and so much better . I mean , and there's so many things that make a lot more sense . Like there are entire five , six minute scenes they cut out and it bridges things , and the reason why I wanted to watch it is because there was for there for a little while just for I don't know why . I just was interested in it . I was listening to the office ladies podcast . I listened to some of the episodes and they go behind the scenes with a lot of stuff and the director and the writer multiple times said like there's so many things that we cut out because of time and we just we had to prioritize , but that they thought told the story better . And now I totally see it . And now I'm like literally checking Peacock every time , just like every time I'm on there being like did they put the seven season up yet ? Cause I just want to finish it with these extended episodes cause they're so good .
Speaker 2So if anybody hasn't ever watched the office , I don't know what rock you've been living under , but go watch the super fan version cause it's so much better and way funnier . But like even what I was going to say earlier is like going to bed in Madison being in a coma , she'll wake up and only in parks and recs she'll wake up randomly and just get the giggles . Like she'll hear one line and like makes her laugh so hard and then she cannot go to sleep and she's laughing so hard that it makes me laugh and it's a whole thing . But she was like this is the only show that like she's like she'll just kind of half here , one line , and then she was . It just makes her laugh so hard and they do have kind of like those secret lines in there that she just don't really think about otherwise .
Speaker 2But quick , calling me out . So you haven't ever seen the office either , robin is , you're more of a reader , though , right , like you probably do . I think you said before you don't watch a lot of TV , which I can understand . That I respect that actually .
Speaker 1And I that's one of the things that I've been cutting back on as well is .
Speaker 2Yeah .
Speaker 1And we actually rearrange the living room to not make the TV the central like focal point anymore , and it's helped a lot , especially with the kids , like getting them away from the TV as well .
Speaker 2Yeah , for sure . I think that you know it's hard . It's hard for me because of how much I really love the art and the creative process behind making things , and especially like when you think about making anything in film and like you're ever on a film set , you know and you see how much work goes into each scene and the lighting and the sound and all of the cameras and all the things that go on . And then like I watch that stuff , thinking like how the hell did they get that shot ? You know it's like it's appreciating is such a deeper level and really loving the art form of storytelling through that medium . And so for me it's like maybe it's just my excuse to say I love watching television , but like I really , really love , I get really into shows and the art behind it and how they craft a really good story . I also makes me very mad when the story lets me down . Yeah , I wasted my time on this . Like I get so mad . Funny story about that . Have you ever heard of the term jumping the shark ?
Speaker 1Yes , and I know what it's from .
Speaker 2Yeah . So I was recently reminded of that and was reading about that story and I was like , oh my God , I completely forgot about this . And they but they were going through a whole list of the top 10 shows and when they jumped the shark and it was like spot on , except for the office . The office , they said the wedding episode was jumping the shark , the singing the NEO song and doing the dance . I didn't think so . I didn't think so either . I love that episode , so I disagree . I love the good place , though Mm . That may be my favorite show of all time . Yeah .
Speaker 1I take back what I said about Parks and Rec , because that was my favorite until I watched the Good Place . Yeah , but I like the Good Place for different reason . Yeah .
Speaker 2The Good Place like wrecked my entire life when I was in a place where I needed some type of like really positive way to look at the afterlife . And the end of that though I mean I think I've talked about it before the end of that show made me cry so hard and I was in the middle of an airplane and the middle seat with a stranger sitting beside me . I mean that is maybe the best , most well-crafted ending of any show I've ever seen . It's incredible .
Speaker 1I loved it . Yeah , the Good Place is great . Okay , so the last thing I'll say here before we hop off is you still need to watch Mr Robot .
Speaker 2Yeah , I have had two people who are both fives say have you watched Mr Robot ? I'm like , oh my God , the guy that I was telling you about , Alex , that I thought it could be a good addition to the podcast on an episode of Random Special Guest . He's a five and also is so much like you in so many ways and so maybe a more cynical version of you .
Speaker 1but More cynical version . Oh boy .
Speaker 2Yeah , yeah and definitely snarkier , believe it or not .
Speaker 1So he's me from college .
Speaker 2Basically , yeah , but if you never changed , right Like he just has gotten more snarky ? No , he's great , though , and he's very entertaining to talk to , but he was like you've got to watch Mr Robot . It's amazing , and I'm like , oh my God , okay , I will , I'll put it on the list . Yeah , it's on my list , for sure . I think I will probably watch it very soon .
Speaker 1Okay , well , I've got some Indian food that was delivered right before we started , so I haven't had a chance to eat it yet , so I'm gonna go do that . So sad it's gonna be cold now . No , I put it inside of a Yeti lunchbox , so hopefully it's like warm enough .
Speaker 2Oh yeah , okay , that's funny , man Cool . Well , yeah , go eat your Indian food then . Well , this is really fun .
Speaker 1We're gonna post , we'll keep you guys updated on the progress of the season and once we have like a date nailed down , we will let you know . And , yeah , thanks for hanging out with us . Yeah , see you next time . All right , see you Back , simonput . Steps After Hours , after Hours , after Hours .
