Hello and welcome to this episode of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to My Life. I am so excited to have today as my guest Sarah Brown Hate. Sarah is uh one of my co-authors in the number one international bestseller, Entangled No More. So, Sarah, come and introduce yourself and tell our listeners what you do and where in the world you are.
SPEAKER_01Hi, Laura, and thanks so much for inviting me to your wonderful podcast. Can't wait to share things with you. So, as you said, um, I'm Sarah Brown Ate. So, as people can probably tell, I was born in the UK. That's why I have the accent I have. But I moved to France over 30 years ago, fell in love with a Frenchman, got married, and that's why my name is also Atte. So I've been living in France for a very, very long time. And what I'm doing right now is I've just rebranded and I am a soul-based healer and mentor. So I help sensitive, empathetic women who've lost their identity, who've lost their way, who just have no sense of really who they are, to reconnect to their soul and their soul being themselves first, then others, the universe, and life.
SPEAKER_00That's um important and amazing work that you do. Thank you for that. Um, so a few years ago, several years ago now, you had some health things and just come and talk about the a funny thing happened on the way to my life experience that that you had.
SPEAKER_01So I love the title because honestly, when I look back, it really was a funny thing. At the time, it wasn't at all. It was the worst thing that could have happened to me. Um, I had been holding everything together, an absolute control freak over my own life, but over practically everybody else's lives as well. And this was going back a very long time, about 20 years ago, when the health problems started, and I just ignored what was going on. I ignored what my body was telling me. I pushed through, went to see the doctor a few times, had medication for back problems, and then just carried on with life. And obviously, life was actually wanting me to stop and take stock of things at the time, but I had no idea that that was what was going on. So I pushed through, I pushed through until the summer of 2008, when my body obviously thought, well, she's not getting the message, so we're gonna have to do something really big, really big to physically stop her in her tracks. And that's what happened. So I had a massive slip disk at the base of my spine, which was paralyzing my right leg, meaning that I physically couldn't move. And apart from the excruciating pain, there was nothing really I could do. And my life suddenly, suddenly stopped. So I had to surrender practically everything. And it was the summer of 2008. My three kids were still at school at the time. It was two weeks before they all went back to school. So I was in no physical um space to be able to help them get anything ready. So it really was there a question of letting go of all the control that I'd been holding, asking for help, which was something that I had never done before, um, just because I felt I couldn't. And um, so that was what happened. And that led me to really connect to my soul, to my soul's calling, and to have the courage to do what I had been wanting to do for quite a long time, which was to quit my job and to set up my own business. And this came to a head because I was signed off work for quite a few months to start the healing process, the physical healing process. But then what happened was I just didn't want to go back to work. I started to feel the knot in my stomach, the dread, the physical sickness. And I was said to my husband, I just can't do this anymore. I really can't do this. So we sat down, had a long discussion, uh, obviously, because the kids were young and all of the financial implications that that would have. And he supported me wholeheartedly. He said, I'll give you a year. If it works, it works. And if it doesn't, then you'll need to go and get another job or whatever. So I said, Yeah, fine. And it worked because I'm still in business. The business has totally evolved, but I'm still in business. So that's this the story behind my funny thing.
SPEAKER_00Well, and number one, congratulations on having such a long-standing business. Um, but I also I, you know, the more and more we find that this is what happens. And um in, I mean, I know you do some work with Joanna Hunter, my my friend and mentor. And in her world, she calls this agents of the universe, where they are, you know, they sneak up on you. Sometimes they sneak up and they say, Hey, you know what, you're not feeling so good. And in until, like you said, it it kind of hits the wall and and you can't ignore it anymore. And I feel like this is what happens when you really do have a different calling and something else that that you're really wanting to do. And maybe, you know, you tell me maybe you had it in you, this idea of what you wanted to do, but there's all the logical things that get in the way as far as you know, just little things like money and and supporting the family and paying your bills and buying food, you know.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, for sure. I mean, the business that I started is not the business I have today because I had no idea that this was my soul calling at the time. All I knew was my soul was calling me to stop doing what I was doing, the way I was doing it, and to be my own boss. So that was the first thing that I really followed for my business. I'd had other signs before for my personal life, and I started to follow them, but that was when the two started to come together. You know, it wasn't there's me in my life, and there's me in my business or in my career that, you know, it was a whole. So that was when it really first started to come together back in 2008. And I didn't want to take that much of a risk. So I actually negotiated with my employer at the time. I was working as a full-time technical translator, which was my fun thing at the time, no longer is, uh, because we all evolve. But I went to him and I was very open and honest. And I said, Look, I just cannot come back to work. So I want to keep working for you, but I can't come back physically and work with you like this. So I want to set up my own business. Would you be willing to outsource? I can't remember exactly how much, say one day a week's work, or would you be willing to outsource work to me on a regular basis, at least to get me set up? And I thought, well, the worst he could say is no, right? And he actually said, okay, let me think about it, came back, agreed to give me, I think it was two days, the you know, the equivalent of two days work every week, which was fantastic to begin with. And it actually turned out that for my first year, most of my work was through them. So he went way above the two days a week just because they had a lot of work that needed to be outsourced, and they outsourced it to me. So, in effect, I was not lucky because I don't believe in luck, I do believe in the universe and everything else. But I was really guided and surrounded at that time to make the transition so much easier. Because, like you say, you know, just little things like money, well, you've got a growing family, that's slightly important. So um, so that really, really helped me to make the transition for sure.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and that's a that's the thing that I think it happens so many times when we are willing to at least take that first step, you know, then you the universe meets us and says, Okay, here's your first step, you know, Sarah. Here you go. Here's here's a little bit of a bridge to to go forward. And then, like you said, as we evolve and you find something else that you're like, okay, well, this is good for now. And then, you know, at some point you moved on to, you know, to the next step.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and the next steps have always come with things that have happened in my own life, crossroads that I've come to as a woman. And it was really interesting because I've just last week celebrated my 14 years in business. And I like to, when it's anniversaries and things like that, I always like to just take time out and reflect and journal and see, you know, where I was, how far I've come. And doing that, I realized that I've had two seven-year cycles in my business so far. So the first seven years was the original business with a business name, uh, which was mainly technical translating and teaching. And then I was still doing that after the seven years, but I'd added in the coaching because I trained to become a coach seven years ago. And that's when I also trained in energy healing and different modalities that I have. And I was like, wow, this is really interesting, especially because my life path is a seven. So it's brilliant because last week, as I said, it was like my 14th business anniversary. And today is the launch of my new website for the third seven-year cycle, and maybe more, but definitely for the third seven-year cycle. So I just absolutely love the way that when we pay attention to the signs, synchronicities, the universe doing its work. And as you say, as long as we're willing to make that first step, I've I've experienced this so many times now that I know it's true. And I just love it, absolutely love it.
SPEAKER_00So that is, I mean, congratulations, that's incredible. And I love that you see the pattern of the seven years. I I think a lot of people see seven-year cycles in their lives. I see more of an eight or nine-year cycle from for myself, um, just in in my life in general, not necessarily business, but um, I I love that you've got something new at your 14th. And I mean, it's that's incredible. I love it. I love that you've got the next step kind of playing out already for you. Um, and that you've been able to integrate all these things in uh in your business, in your in your life. Um, I I want to go back uh on one thing because I think it's interesting. I find this interesting a lot of times with my guests that I have something in common with them, um, whether I knew it from the beginning or whether it comes up as we go along. But um a few years ago, a couple years after you had your back thing, I had a back thing as well. And um I wasn't as, you know, I was I was able to still move, but incredible pain, incredible pain. And um, it went down my right leg. And so I thought there was a problem with my leg, not my back. And um I ended up avoiding they they did want me to have back surgery, and I ended up avoiding back surgery by going on a holistic route. And so I just want to backtrack a little bit and and ask you as far as your physical healing, what did you what sort of a, I mean, and you don't have to tell us all the details, but it uh, you know, would you share a little bit of what you did to to heal that? And I know you mentioned, you know, connecting with your soul and things like that, but what helped you to heal?
SPEAKER_01I love that, Laura, because we definitely have that in common. They were insisting for me to have back surgery because I my right leg was paralyzed, um, and I couldn't feed it and obviously couldn't walk or anything else. And I had a lot of scans and x-rays and everything. And all the diagnosis was saying there's nothing else we can do. You have to have this physically removed. And at the time, my whole body went into a reaction to that. It was just a massive no. I couldn't explain it. There's no, in this lifetime, there's no logical explanation to that at all. Um, just to backtrack, if I can, a tiny little bit, I've got three children, and for each, they offered me the epidural, and I refused. So there's obviously something going on with me and my back. You can touch anything else, more or less. Can't touch my back. Anyway, so um, to my doctor's dismay, I refused to go down the route of surgery. So I said, Can you help me another way? Because I'm sure there is another way. And he said, There probably is, but it's going to take so much longer. And I said, Well, I'm willing to give it a try because I cannot have that surgery. So, with his help, I found a therapist who was also a trained energy healer. So it was the best of both worlds. And that's what got me interested in energy healing and the power of that. And at the same time, a very young, he was 25, a very young osteopath came to my house every day to try and get a little bit of movement to try and get me to respond, to get my leg to respond. And together, so all of us together, it took me probably two or three years of that on an ongoing basis. So to begin with, as I said, the osteopath would come every day, just for five, 10 minutes. Um, and then we would sort of know space things out. So at the end, I was maybe having two sessions a week, as I said, over a span of years. So it definitely wasn't a quick fix. But I am so pleased and in a way so proud of myself for trusting, you know, what my body was saying, this outright reaction to no way, you are not having that surgery. So it was really a matter of putting my faith and trust in other people and also doing the work because I had work to do. When I went to see the osteopath, he'd give me exercises to do in between the sessions, you know, to strengthen my back, to strengthen my muscles, things like that. When I went to see the therapist again, she would obviously ask me to do things, do certain research. She also put me on the track of my family tree, looking at if there are coincidences, if similar things have happened to other people in the family. And that was a fascinating journey as well. So that's what helped me.
SPEAKER_00I love it. I love that. Um, I mine was similar, and I think it's important to say that it's not the quick fix, but I, you know, of course, the surgeon, that's what they do, that's their job, and they want you to have surgery. In my experience, the people that I know who have had back surgery um have had more, had to have more than one. It didn't fix it. And so for me, I was like, no, I I'd rather do something else. And it was actually my husband who said, you know, maybe funny enough, because this wouldn't have come out of him. He was like, How about an acupuncturist or chiropractor or something else? And I happened to just, by the grace of Google, find a really good acupuncturist who is a holistic doctor. And again, same thing, like doing exercises. I remember going into her and I see, I think I started out seeing her twice a week, and her saying, um, well, how often are you doing the exercises? And I was like, Well, you know, in the morning and in the evening. And she's like, Oh no, you've got to, like, we've got to have more than that. Um, but she also um and I remember thinking, what does this have to do with my back? Asked me, you know, about nutrition and sleep and all these other things. And um it was, it was the same with you. Like it, we you have to be willing to do the work. And I would say for me, it was a good year and a half, two years, but it it was a it was worth it. And the education, it I think there was a level of being willing and open-minded enough to educate myself on some of it. Um, she was the first doctor ever who gave me five books to read. Read this, read this, read this. And I was like, you know, what is all this? And so, yeah, I I think it's important that you, you know, for you talking about that we have to do be willing to do the work and the exercises um to do the healing. And I love that that also is what led you to energy healing and led you down that path. Because had you not, I mean, maybe it would have still come up later in your life some other way, but had you not, then you might not have taken the steps that you took um in your own journey and in your own business then.
SPEAKER_01I laughed when you talked about the books. I only had one to read, but that's what my doctor said. He said, Do you love reading? I said, Yep. He said, Well, that's good because you can't move, you can't do anything else. So go and read this book from cover to cover. When you've finished, you phone my secretary, she'll make an appointment, I'll come and see you and we'll talk. I had never heard a doctor, and to this day, I have never heard a doctor tell me that. So I was like, okay. And that book was about the mind-body connection. And I started to understand so much, and it brought me to tears and huge realizations about lots of other less important illnesses and things that I'd had in the past, and just how it all comes down to more or less the same thing for me anyway. So, yeah, so that's why I was laughing when you mentioned, you know, the books to read. So um, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and mine weren't so much about the energetics or the mind-body connection. Those kind of came to me later, uh, you know, more recently, but um but were about things that we eat. And, you know, one book was about the exercises that I needed to do for my back, like the ones that I needed to do at home and um just different things. I don't remember what they all were now, but again, like I think it's something that uh that we don't think of, that we don't realize a lot of us don't realize that it is so important. And I don't know if you want to if if you want to speak a little bit about the energetics and the and the mind-body connection in general, um, and and how that plays out with us.
SPEAKER_01Well, one thing that I learned and that I pass on now to people who I work with, if it's on one-to-one or group, is obviously the power of the mind, but something that I experienced and it worked within minutes. Um, talking with my therapist and energy healer at the time. And to be honest with you, I'm not a very patient person. And they didn't tell me it was going to take that long because I might not have gone down that route. So that's good. Um, but at one point I remember sharing with her, I was just like, I feel like I'm not getting anywhere really. We're doing the work, but you know, I'm still in pain and there's all of this going on. And she said, Well, you seem to be very good at visualization. So, how about visualizing this disc, the slip disk at the bottom of your spine and sending love to it? So, either saying the word love or visualizing the pink or the green, whatever colour you prefer for love, you know, the different colours of the chakras, just send that, just send that and see what happens. And that's what I did. And I did this obviously not just once, but I kept doing this and I instantly felt the pain go away. And so I started to incorporate that into all of the other exercises that I was doing. And then one day it miraculously went.
SPEAKER_00That is incredible. That's incredible, and and and an important thing, I think, to mention that that I think we spend so much time just thinking about what you're saying, you know, we spend so much time focusing on the pain of whatever area it is, you know, oh my knee, oh, my hip, oh, my back. And it hurts, it hurts, it hurts. And I know a lot of times in general, we talk about, you know, like the law of attraction and the positivity, but I don't think that we think about it in the in the terms that you're Talking about in the terms of our body and sending the positive to our own our own bodies and sending the love there. And it's like, no, you know, I I love my body, you support me in so many ways. That's incredible. I love that.
SPEAKER_01I loved it too. And that's why I want to pass it on to as many people as possible because it sounds and it is really very simple in a way. But like you say, there's so I was one of these people. There are so many people who have this massive disconnect between our thoughts and our body. It's like they're two different things. And the power of our thoughts can literally change our life. Like you've just said, you know, it's either do I want to focus on the pain or do I want to acknowledge that pain, which is hurting me, but then working with my body and my thoughts and my energy and guides and whatever else I want to do, but to actually focus that all to heal.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah. I'd have there's another um, there's another person that I know who talks about she works a lot with the body and healing, and she talks about visualizing your body like just in in the in a perfect state, that your body's working perfectly, which is great as well. Like just scan, like scan your body and and imagine everything working properly. But I think this is another level, a really different level of that. And and I I do, you know, it's like I just had like this a little bit of an aha when you said it of yeah, here we are. Like switch it up, switch it up, and stop, stop talking it so much about the pain and and give it the love. And I I think this is really great.
SPEAKER_01Because our body speaks to us, right? You've experienced that too. So there's there's obviously something going on, and we don't have all the answers necessarily, and sometimes we don't even need to have all the answers, but acknowledging that and being at least open to experiment because if I'm a great believer in all of this anyway, so I didn't really need much convincing, but some people maybe do. So all I would offer up is just try it, you know. What's the worst that could happen by you trying that? Nothing, you'll still be in the same pain, right?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah. Worst case, the worst case is you'll be where you are, where you already are. Exactly, right?
SPEAKER_01It's not going to make it worse. So just experiment it and just see what happens with you, to you, for you, through you. Um it's honestly, it's absolutely fascinating. Once because I I also find that we can often overcompl overcomplicate things in our lives. And if we were to trust ourselves more, it would be easier on us as well. I'm not saying that we don't need outside help because we do, but uh the outside help isn't enough because it's it's somebody else's experience, basically, isn't it? It's somebody else's thoughts, words, experience, wisdom, which is great, but it's not ours. So to listen to people who inspire us, that's one thing, but to then actually sort of filter through or whatever and and take things on board for ourselves and really experiment with that and see what works for us and see what other things we can bring in, that's that's when it works because it's very easy to take the medicine. I used to do that all the time because I was like, I can't not work, I cannot take the time off work, so please give me the pills so that I can get through this and carry on. So it is easy to do that, um, but a lot harder to actually say, right, I'm gonna explore something else. But for me, a lot more enriching.
SPEAKER_00So yeah, yeah, that's it. And this is such a timely message, also for me, because I've in the last few weeks, especially, I've had several people in my family and that I know who've had literally had um medical issues going on. And the message that's been coming to me through through watching them in the medical process is that we absolutely have to start to advocate for ourselves to, you know, if something doesn't feel right for you, to say, no, I'm not gonna take that, or no, I don't want that shot. And I don't mean the thing, I mean uh whatever, whatever the medicine is that they are are offering to us. Um, if it doesn't feel right for you, or if you find yourself in a situation that is uncomfortable, you don't have to stay in that situation. Like we have to be our own self-advocates, nobody's gonna advocate for us. But like you say, we're giving our power away to people who have their own ideas, who have their own thoughts, and sometimes those are good and right. Um, and I think there's a big thought process in most people that the these doctors, at least the Western world world doctors, know more than us. They they've been educated and they know more than us, but they don't more know more than what we know if we listen to our bodies. Like we know what's right for us. And I again, I just think people don't realize that they can stand up for themselves, whether it is pushing through to get the sometimes, you know, in our medical world over here when insurance steps in. Oh boy, I don't want to really go down this whole rabbit hole. But you know, they're saying no, you can't have this test that you really need.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And that that the doctors are saying you need. So we either need to advocate for ourselves to push through, to get, you know, keep, you know, following up, following up, or like we're talking about saying, okay, how does my body feel about this? I don't want that. That doesn't feel right for me. I actually had when I was having this whole thing going on with my body, um, I had a doctor prescribe a, you know, give me a pill, give prescription. And when I I got it and I got home and I read all the side effects, I was like, you know what? My pain isn't bad enough, my situation isn't bad enough for me to risk these side effects. That would be worse. Yeah. So I mean, I think what you're saying is so important. And like you said, if you try it, that's one of the things that happened with my back, was that we decided that if I tried the acupuncture and it didn't work, the surgery option would always be there.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So what the heck? Why not? And I had already done physical therapy, they'd already sent me to physical therapy, which actually made it worse because they were focusing on my leg. Yes. And as soon as I went, before actually they sent me for an MRI, but before I went for the MRI, I had gone to see this acupuncturist. And she actually said, have them, you know, make sure that they include whatever in this MRI because this is where your problem is. And it was, I mean, it was. I had multiple things going on um in in my back as well. And so it's incredible. And like I said, we tried it. We tried all the, you know, what we would consider traditional things here and and did have the idea. So I love that you're, you know, the idea of experimenting with sending love to whatever whatever is in your body. And like you said, worst cases, you'll still be still be where you are, or get better than that, you might start to feel better and be surprised and surprise yourself at the power that you have over your own body.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah. I mean, you saying that we need to advocate for that. My the first time I did was over 20 years ago now, and I was expecting our third child because I had some blood tests run and the levels, I can't remember what they were, but the levels were very, very high for a woman of my age and my condition and everything else. Basically, the diagnosis was there's probably going to be a big major health problem with your future child. So we need to explore this further. And I asked what the tests would be and what the you know, the things would be. And again, my body was like, no, no, no, no, no, you're not doing that. The risk of what could happen if you have the further tests done was much greater. The risk of leaving losing the baby was much greater than the potential threat, for want of a better word, of giving birth to a baby who would have health problems. And this was going back, as I said, over 20 years. So you can imagine at the time, I was more or less literally thrown out of my doctor's surgery. It's not the same doctor. Um, he called me completely crazy out of my mind. What was I thinking? I should put my future baby's health before my own, etc., etc. I went against the grain and said to a few people what was going on. And they said, Well, we think you should have this done. These people were friends and family, and I said, I'm not. So I had practically zero support. And that was when I first started my spiritual journey because I felt so alone, but so convinced that I was making the right choice for my body and my future child. And I just sat crying in the garden on a summer's day one afternoon, and I was just there and I said, if there's anyone or anything out there, please help me. And I was crying and crying and crying, and I just felt, and I'm feeling it now, just this beautiful tingling protection, love support. And I heard a voice say, just trust, and it will be okay, something like that. I can't remember the exact words, and I just burst into tears, and I just felt so, so at peace with my decision. And I'm really pleased I followed through on that because our son is perfectly healthy.
SPEAKER_00So that's amazing and so good. I mean, really, I've had people that I've known that had similar situations where they've said, oh, you know, your baby's gonna have whatever issues and scared the heck out of them. I mean, really, uh, you know, really challenging as a parent to wonder, you know, do we what do we do? What do we do if we do we go forward? Do we um, you know, what if our child does have all these health issues? Are we going to be able to support that, you know, on so many levels? And they, you know, not in the same way that you did, but pushed through and had absolutely, you know, healthy babies. And so that, but I I think that that's amazing that you experience that peace and calmness. And, you know, especially it's really hard. I'm sure it's so hard when there's when everybody is against you, every, you know, all the people in your life are saying, Why would you go against the doctors? And you to be able to be strong enough to stand up and say, This is what's right for me. Uh, you know, that's it, that's really challenging.
SPEAKER_01It was so scary, honestly, Laura, because I did wonder whether I was crazy. And then once I'd made my decision, I didn't want to go back on that. So then I spent the last four months of the pregnancy every day, just really scared about what is going to happen the day I do give birth, you know. Um, and so then that generated trauma for the child, and we've been able to work through that since. But so all of that is connected, and that's when I really began to be interested in all of this, how our thoughts as well, because we were talking about this earlier, but how our thoughts as a future mom really influence the child, because even if we don't say it out loud, the child will still have those. And I know this from experience because of something my son said to me when he was nearly three, and it was something I'd thought during the pregnancy, and I'd never said, So, yeah, that's amazing.
SPEAKER_00That is, and that I agree with that. I mean, you know, to me, the things that we, you know, as as moms when we're carrying our babies, the things, you know, not only the the physical things, the nutritional things that we do, but our our thoughts and our energy and all of it is so important. And, you know, to me, you know, it must have been incredibly hard for you every day, like you said, for four months to be, oh my gosh, what's gonna happen, what's gonna happen, what's gonna happen. But then I also think about um, you know, women who have been raped and are carrying a child and the thoughts that they might have that would potentially carry over to a child and and how you heal, you know, how you heal those things with, you know, not only with the mother, but with the child, and you know, or these, like you even in your situation, and people like I said, like my family members who um have had experienced that where they, you know, potentially had the same thing, you know, what is gonna happen? What's my child gonna be like when when he when they are born? And are we gonna be able to support that? Um, yeah, I think that's really interesting that that you were able to really hear that from like we think that, like we think, oh, that passes through, but you for you to actually have your son share that with you so that you are like, oh wow, yeah, that's a you know, that's an absolute confirmation that that happens.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I mean, that's a whole other story about that pregnancy and the relationship I have with him. That's it's beautiful, absolutely beautiful. He he came here. One of for me, one of his main purposes for me in my life is to be my teacher because I really opened up to who I am, my spirituality, and connecting to all the energy healing and all of that, everything that I have been through since his pregnancy, it's really taught me to actually step up and out into my soul calling. So, and I've told him that very many times. He's here for other things for himself as well, but his mission for me as his mum in this life is definitely that.
SPEAKER_00That's amazing. That is so incredible. I love it, I love it, and we don't a lot of times we don't think about that either. That maybe you know, our children are here to teach us something or to lead us down a certain path as well. And you know, and we're not only there for them to help them guide and guide them, but that they teach us as well. I'd love that.
SPEAKER_01It came just on the back of something, which I didn't realize at the time. I was carrying him, but didn't know because it was very, very early in the pregnancy. And we were at my niece's christening, and I read a passage from the Bible, and the priest came to see me afterwards and thanked me for doing that. And then he said, God is going to ask you to do his work. And and I just looked at him and I was I just didn't know what to say, so I didn't ask any questions. And a couple of weeks later, I realized I was carrying our third child, and then everything I've just explained to you, and I was like, Wow, you know, this is it goes way beyond things that we can maybe even imagine.
SPEAKER_00So uh that's incredible, that's incredible, and I especially to hear it, you know, from a clergyman could because your journey is really more of a spiritual journey that wouldn't maybe necessarily connect that way.
SPEAKER_01Exactly, because I'm not even christened. I don't have a problem with the church and whatever, but you know, I'm not even christened, so it's not like he was the priest that I used to go and see or the church that I used to go to. Not at all. Not at all. I'm just very open-minded to I think there's you know a god or a goddess. Um, that's just my personal conviction. We're all connected and we're all one sort of thing. There is no one God for me. Um, and not wanting to go down that rabbit hole either today. But yeah, but I I was just so amazed. And then to to realize afterwards that what he said was actually true, because when I sat there crying and I was like, if there's anything or anyone, help me. And then to hear that voice and to feel this love and support, and and then that reminded me of his words months before, and it was yeah, and I've never I only saw him that once, I've never seen him since. So uh the the universe works in wonderful, mysterious ways.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, definitely a messenger for you for sure, um, in in that in that situation. Um, yeah, that's incredible. I love your journey. This is you know, these things that either have physically happened to you, or like this, a message coming to you, and the fact that you are so open to the different messages and and also willing to then take action. Again, it's all about like not only listening to the message, but taking action um on it, because a lot of times I think we don't do that either.
SPEAKER_01No, I mean, going back to what you shared about your back, same as me, you know, we healed because we also did the exercises and did what was necessary. So yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, absolutely. And same like with with you what you mentioned, um, you know, about like you know, luck. It's not necessarily luck. We I think I just did a post the other day about that. That I well, it was on St. Patrick's Day. I made a post of make your own, you know, make don't don't forget to make your own luck. Because I think so many times we look at people and go, oh, they're just so lucky. But really, when you look at it, they they're they're lucky, quote unquote lucky, because they've been open to the idea, they've taken the first step, um, and you know, or done the whatever work to to make good things happen in their lives, and then you know, potentially other people see it as luck.
SPEAKER_01Exactly. Yeah. My dad, um, who passed away last year, but he would often say, when I was going through periods of doubt, as we all do, you know, on and off, especially in business, and and when I'd phone him and just have a chat and say, Oh, dad, you know, I'm not too sure. And and and he would always say, But you make things happen. He said, You have always made things happen.
SPEAKER_00And everybody recognized that in you because a lot of times people our people, our people don't see that either.
SPEAKER_01Exactly, yeah. So that was in his later years, that was you know, quite recently. But even so, it's yeah, and I was like, Yeah, I do, because like you said, I do have these messages, these intuitions, these downloads, whatever you want to call them, but and I don't always take action on them all because I don't have enough time to take action on them all. But um, but yeah, I take the action that I feel um inspired to take anyway. So yeah.
SPEAKER_00Well, and um I think sometimes it's about timing as well, because just to touch on entangled no more for a minute, you know, when that I saw that. Opportunity, you know, in the beginning when it was presented. And I didn't take that opportunity at first. And it wasn't until because I was like, no, I don't have the time. I don't have, you know, what would I know? You know, I have stories that I'd like to share, but I, you know, it's not, I it really wasn't obviously the right time for me. But then um literally when it was like last call for you know, authors for the book, I was like, oh, I'm gonna I'm gonna do this. And like, why when you when I could have had months of you know time to to put that out there, I did it in the crunch time, you know. And so I think a lot of times it even though maybe uh something is presented to us, and you know what? That happened, sorry, um, it happened again with um when I opened my studio. We were looking, I have art studio in Michigan, a lot of people know that. Um, when we were looking for the building, we looked at the building that we eventually bought. Um, when we first looked at it, it didn't work out. And so we went down and looked at, you know, two, three other buildings. And surprising, not surprisingly, those didn't work out. And so then it we ended up coming back around to that that first building that that is now my studio. And it it is, it's the right thing. It was the right thing. Um, but for whatever reason, like I said, it it didn't work out that first time and that timing. So I think, you know, a lot of it, and you know, maybe you agree with this. I don't know. Um, for a lot of us, we might have that little, those nudges at first that we don't take advantage of because, you know, and sometimes I think it's a matter of more information coming in that we haven't collected yet. I think there's a lot of reasons for that to happen that way. But sometimes we have to have the, you know, and then when the time is right, we're like, okay, yeah, let's go forward, let's let's move move on with this one.
SPEAKER_01It's interesting because I signed up to Entangled No More straight away. But I what happened to me was I did what you did for Evolving on Purpose, which was the book released just before. And it was really weird because I thought that I was one of many who signed up at the last minute, not realizing that people had been signing up for three months. And I was like, well, why had I not seen this before? And maybe I had, and do you know what I mean? And maybe it just hadn't registered. But the day I saw it, same as you, it's like, you know, last call, so I was on it. So once I'd done that and then saw entangled no more, I was like, yeah, and maybe one of the first to sign up. And then I just couldn't write the chapter for months because I realized that I still needed to do some healing around my chapter. And I honestly, I would go sometimes, I'd block times out in my diary and sit in front of the computer and you know, get the incense burning and all of my rituals and whatever, and nothing. And it took a long time to come through, but then when it did, it was like done in a day. So that was very interesting. So it's similar to what you were saying about the timing. I was definitely, I need to be in this book. This is definitely for me. I have a story to share for that, and then having signed up, then it was like, oh, okay, so now I've got to do it. It's not coming in, and then trusting as well that it would come in before the due date.
SPEAKER_00So yeah, that's interesting. And I I know you you you have a few books, don't you? Yeah, yeah, quite a few. Um, we'll talk about that in just a minute before we wrap up. We'll talk about where to find all your stuff. But I wanted to um back to entangled no more for one second, is that what I realized, because I was like, oh shoot, you know, I've got to do this pretty quickly. And what I realized was that my chapter was written, it was just written, some of it over here, some of it over here, some of it over here, and I just had to put it together. So that was really why I was able to do that in in thank goodness in such a quick way. But when you talk about the healing of it, um, oh boy, like that, it was really there was a lot of um of healing that went in around that. And and once I actually put it together and it was going into the book, there was a level of me being in you can ask my husband, because it was like an emotional situation, you know, up and down, and to the point where I was almost like, I've got to pull this out. I can't, I can't put it in there, you know. And so it is quite, you know, a healing process to put our stories out into the world and um and and to share with people.
SPEAKER_01Well, especially in entangled no more, because the the you know, the main core is all about toxic relationships. So that in itself isn't an easy subject, is it? And then obviously we're all sharing our story around that, however traumatic that can be. And I was really very, very deeply moved when I read all of your chapters. It was um not shocking, I wouldn't say that at all, but it was just like, oh my goodness, all these women who have gone through so much, and not only are they still standing, but they are actually standing up loud and proud and advocating for other women as well. And I just that filled my heart with so much, so, so much. And um, yeah, it was just I felt really blessed to be part of that book because it definitely wasn't an easy book to write for, for sure.
SPEAKER_00And and that's the idea is also is that to hopefully reach and support, you know, other people, other women, other people in the world with that, with our stories. I mean, and I think hopefully that's one of the things that that really propelled us forward and and and was meaningful enough for us to to share our stories out there. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Is that before we uh wrap up, is there anything else that you would like to uh uh to share with the listeners? Any other messages or ideas that you would like to uh to to touch on today?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, just basically to really trust your inner knowing, your inner wisdom, your intuition, whatever what you want to call it, because it never fails you. And it really is your best friend. So it's if you're new to this sort of concept, it's obviously it will take you time to get in touch with all of that. But once you do, life becomes so much more I don't know, blessed, full of gratitude, loving, kind. I don't know, just it's totally changed my world. And um, I would really invite anybody listening to to explore that for sure.
SPEAKER_00That is such an important and and really beautiful message, absolutely. And I I can I totally concur with you, of course. I I believe it as well that we can, you know, and it's it's not always an easy thing to do to listen to our ourselves, our bodies, our inner knowing. Um, but when we when we do it um and acknowledge ourselves and the the the way we're feeling, it it is really life-changing. I agree with you on that. So share with us a bit. Okay, first of all, because I'm excited about your website, share with our listeners, and I'll put it in the show notes as well, what your what your fresh website is, so they can find you there.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so it's sbh mentoring, all one word, dot com. And the sbh is for two things. It's for Sarah Brown Atte and it's also for soul-based healing. Oh, I love that.
SPEAKER_00Thank you. Beautiful. And also, you know, uh what other socials or what is it, where else can they find you and find your books and um you know, follow you? Where can people, you know, find you in in the in the technological world?
SPEAKER_01So you can find me on LinkedIn under Sarah Brown, so Brown without an E. I have a YouTube channel which is currently called SoFree Coaching because that was the old business name. So I haven't yet transitioned, but there's a YouTube channel there. And I also have my Facebook page as well, which is Sarah H Coaching.
SPEAKER_00Beautiful. And again, I will put those, they'll put all of that in the show notes for for people to find you. Um, I also I do want to mention that um we are both on Amazon. The book uh Entangled No More can be found on Amazon both in Kindle and Paperback, but um I we both have author pages on there as well. So um you can put put your author page in the show notes if somebody's interested, since we talked about that. If you're interested in in Entangled No More or one of Sarah's other books as as well.
SPEAKER_01She's exactly I do have a pen name which isn't Sarah Brown Ate, it's Sarah Brigid Brown. So that's my Amazon name.
SPEAKER_00Okay, great.
SPEAKER_01And I will give you the link. So yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, thanks for clarifying that. So I have so enjoyed our our chat today. Thank you for being a guest on a funny thing happened on the way to my life.
