And welcome and welcome back, everybody, to the Matinee Review Hello, where we talk movies and comic books and TV shows and video games and all the things underneath the sun. I am Justin. I Emma Keely. How are you, man?
SPEAKER_04I am doing very well. We successfully put together the first episode. I think it went really well. And here we are going into the next one. I'm feeling really good so far.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I am too. How are you, sir? How was your week?
SPEAKER_02I'm good. I uh you know, it it's a little warm here. It's not as warm as it was last week. Thank God. I'm not already sweating.
SPEAKER_00So I'm I'm good. I'm ready to to talk news and see your reaction to a couple of things that I haven't sent you yet. Because I'm uh I'm excited. It's something dropped today, and all I can say is somebody's getting fired. Oh yeah. Oh yeah, this is some this is some is some wild stuff.
SPEAKER_04Is it Stephen Dorf?
unknownNo.
SPEAKER_00No, no. No, he has to get hired in order to get fired.
SPEAKER_04Burn.
SPEAKER_00Ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch. Sorry. Sorry. It's okay. You can burn sorry. You can burn Deacon Frost. It's fine. You can take it. What is it? We're already going to make a celebrity enemy. Like right out the gate. Whatever, man. Whatever. Because Deacon Frost is going to be like, I'm going to listen to the Matin Man review.
SPEAKER_04Great. Cool story, bro. Like, whatever, Stephen Dorf. But as far as my week, my week felt long because I was excited to do this again. So it was one of those things where it's like, you know, you want to I want to do this every day, but you know, uh you need to get through work and you have to get through this. And you're like, okay, that news build up's like you know, is it is it is it time to do the podcast thing? Is it time? So here we here we are. It's time.
SPEAKER_00It's time. How was your week? It was good. It was good. I'm uh I'm that enthusiasm. I love it. Yeah.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00Lots of enthusiasm. Uh at this point. Um other other than you know, watching Loki catching up on Bad Batch yesterday. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Which we could which we will get to eventually, ladies and gentlemen, and and wonderful people. But uh we're I think we're gonna wait for that to wrap and then we'll do a whole big Bad Batch thing. So Oh, definitely. Yeah, we want to wait until stay tuned for that. Stay tuned, it's coming.
SPEAKER_05I love her so much.
SPEAKER_00I'm interested to see where uh they take her story if she survives.
SPEAKER_04I I love that you said if she survives, because I sit and I watch it with my lady, and every time she's every every single time I count myself, Omega does something great, I'm just like, yeah, it's too bad she's not gonna survive. She's like, shut up. I'm like, well, I'm I'm just saying. I'm just saying.
SPEAKER_00What if she becomes the most memorable character in the Force Awakens? The lady with the silver stormtrooper outfit and the cape. Whoa, Captain Phezma? Phasma, phesma, phasma, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Whoa, look at you. That's cool. That's she just goes evil. That's actually look at you. Something you made my brain spike, as you usually do. So this is this is awesome. This is awesome. You need a uh a brain a brain pop filter. Mm-hmm. What do you what was the line from Hook?
SPEAKER_05I think uh I think I just had an I think I just had an apostrophe.
SPEAKER_00I think you mean an epiphany.
SPEAKER_05Lightning just struck my brain. Well that had to hurt.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I love it.
SPEAKER_04Let's get into it now.
SPEAKER_00Yes, well, before we do that, we had two quick little things. One from a gentleman named Elec, not Alec, Elec. He said, What if Red Guardian did fight Cap? Because Cap did go back in time. You know, there's all that time that we don't know about in between. So he could have at that point, I guess, fought an older version of Cap. One that was if it's in the eighties and he was in his thirties, yeah, he would check that out. He would be about 80, but with Cap serum.
SPEAKER_05Okay.
SPEAKER_04That's way to go. Ellick, that's a nice little brain spike too. Like, I didn't think about that. I didn't think about that. There's still that possibility that he could fight US agent and then you know, that's that that's almost like a version of him fighting a Captain America.
SPEAKER_00So Right. But the ultimate question is, did he fight him in 1983 or was he just, you know, lying in a little 83, 84? Uh also Well, don't call don't call him a liar.
SPEAKER_01Don't do that.
SPEAKER_00We did also get another letter from someone dropping a line on how we've done. This is from Jason from California. It says, just wanted to let you guys know that you both did exceptionally well, I thought. You both have great voices for a podcast. You both seemed comfortable, natural, professional. I thought your chemistry was good. Very well done. Looking forward to more.
SPEAKER_04Thank you. Jason from California. Hey fellow Californian. We will try not to uh just drop the ball on this one.
SPEAKER_00No disappointing.
SPEAKER_04Cool. Love it. Well, thank you to uh Elec and Jason from California. We appreciate you listening. We will keep this train rolling, and hopefully we can pick up some more uh some more fans along the way.
SPEAKER_00Yes, yes, and indeed, yes. Awesome. Let's get into the news, my friend.
SPEAKER_04The news, the news.
SPEAKER_05Let's get into the news.
SPEAKER_04Yes.
SPEAKER_05Breaking star, eh? More story. More story. Fresh off the wire. Have you heard?
SPEAKER_00Have you heard? We are weird. So we're gonna have a behind-the-scenes making of Mandalorian season two finale, where we all got to witness the return of Luke Skywalker the way we wanted to see him ever since Return of the Jedi.
SPEAKER_04We're talking about Luke Skywalker coming through, I would say maybe in in in his prime. Reminds you of the Dark Vader scene when in Rogue One, when you see Vader go full Vader, and people are like, Man, wouldn't that be great if one day we could get Luke maybe going at the height of his prime? And then when that X-Wing flies in and you see Luke start to go to work, you're like, that's what I'm talking about.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_04Watching it again gave me forced unleash vibes for those that talk about video games. Good old Force Unleashed game that turned out to be non-canon, but was really fun.
SPEAKER_00Just a really fun. And if they're smart, they'll they'll make it canon again somehow.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, Starkiller was a great character. I loved the concept of Starkiller being Darth Vader's apprentice, a secret apprentice, and that whole thing. I just it uh I was just blown away. And the I loved how the guy playing Starkiller was Sam Whitner. And for those who don't know who Sam Whitner is, Sam Whitner has been doing his dead the voice of Darth Maul for the Clone Wars series, and he was also the voice of Darth Maul at the end of Solo. Spoilers if you haven't seen that. Darth Maul shows up. Of course, Ray Park, great Ray Park doing still the actual physical acting, but Sam Whitner doing the voice. I thought that was really cool. But this does look very awesome. We're gonna get nice behind the scenes. Uh uh I'm looking forward to see what Mark Hamill had to say about the process. So I think this is really neat.
SPEAKER_00He was on set when they were filming all that. So I I I want to see a comparison, you know, like the comparison of watching the behind the scenes of The Last Jedi, where he's walking on set and he's looking at Yoda and he's he's getting a little emotional about that. But then when he's he's also being escorted around by, you know, whether it's the AD or the actual director, Ryan Johnson. Boy, did he seem just like, I don't want to do this. I this is not this is not where I saw Luke going. Oh and yeah, he and he even says that. You could see that when he's doing read-throughs and and when was it one of the shots that he did when he was doing the scene where he's looking at the Jedi Temple burning and they're getting the reaction shot from him, and he's all emotional, and he's he's he's got the tears running. When they yelled cut, he he didn't move. He he was there, he was he was still just like kind of breaking down right there in that in that moment. And I'm sure it was a lot of it was just the sheer disappointment of where his his character went when he probably pictured himself as being like a legit style Obi-Wan, he ended up just being a a a legit style hermit that he described Obi-Wan as being before he knew Obi-Wan's character. So to see him on the set of Mandalorian, I'm excited to see that because I want to I want to see him being happy what they gave us and what they gave him. Because as much as it was a gift to us, it was a a massive gift to him. Because as much as he didn't get to physically do it, to be able to see it and to be able to see everyone's reaction to it, a positive reaction to it, as opposed to a negative reaction to his character, the what you know for Last Jedi. I'm I'm all for that. So that'll be that'll be August 25th.
SPEAKER_04August 25th. Disney Plus, everybody. Still not disappointing you really. Keep it moving.
SPEAKER_00That's right. Um next story we got Indiana Jones has a uh a new cast member.
SPEAKER_05I want a job.
SPEAKER_00Antonio Banderas, everyone, is joining the cast of Indiana Jones 5.
SPEAKER_04This is gonna be Antonio Banderas. I love Antonio Banderas from from from Puss and Boots to Zorro to just you name it. Just a just a bunch of stuff. I mean, just a bunch of expendables. I mean, we can go on and on about Antonio Banderas. Desperado, yeah. Just Desperado, yeah. I mean, what are what are we what are we doing? I mean, we don't really have to mention Once Upon a Time in Mexico, but whatever. I mean it's a movie. Yeah, that's that's about as good as reviews. We can give that. I don't even think they give depth script. He was just like, yeah, just go up there and just be kind of creepy and kind of distant. He's like, yeah, I can't.
SPEAKER_00Can I talk about my food when I'm eating it? Is it alright if I uh I like this rice? Can I talk about the rice?
SPEAKER_04It's so good that I'm gonna go back and I'm gonna shoot the cook because this shouldn't be this good. I'm sitting there going, like, what are we watching? What is this? People got paid. I'm sure people are paid. No, yeah, no, no, no. But anyway, uh Antonio Banderas is gonna be next to Indy, and in doing this kind of small research, not surprised to hear Harrison Ford already hurt himself trying to do a fight scene.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that was last month.
SPEAKER_04Where I'm just like, can can we stop trying to kill a Harrison Ford? You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? Like, he can't keep doing these big movies and getting hurt. Like, it's just like, come on, man. It's so Indiana Jones 5 doesn't have a title yet, but it's directed by James Mangold, who did Logan Ford V. Ferrari. So I saw a mention where one of the actresses was the leak set where it's gonna be like set in the 1960s, I guess, or you know, so Indiana Jones 5. The cast is getting bigger, and the that boulder is gonna keep on rolling.
SPEAKER_00Hey hey.
SPEAKER_04I see what you did there, and I like it. Cool.
SPEAKER_00What else we got for news today? Black Adam. If you want to go back to the code. Oh, yes, the Black Adam uh uh movie wrapped. He is done. He is done filming, finally. He got to achieve his dream after the past what's almost ten years of of him saying, I'm gonna be Black Adam, and then the studio going, Ah, we're gonna push it back a little. He probably started raising some shit, like, come on, guys. Move it or lose it.
SPEAKER_04I don't know. I don't know. I would I mean I don't know Dwayne The Rock Johnson, but uh he seems to have this era around him where he's just like, hey, good good things, good things are great things. You can't rush greatness, you know what I'm saying? So it's like that if the timing lines up, if everything's going, you know, he's not hurting. He has a whole bunch of other projects that he's doing, but I I watched the video of the wrap-up that he put out, and it did feel you know, I liked where he's just like, this is a career-defining moment for me, and it doesn't happen without teamwork, and all of you have become family over the few years, so it just seems like it's a thing where like you say, you can't rush greatness, and he looks like he's gonna do an excellent job. I mean, it's doing it's Dwayne the Rock Johnson. He hasn't really disappointed me yet, and I'm going back to way back in WWF attitude wrestling days when he was just raising the the eyebrow and beating up jabronies, and you can smell what he's cooking. You know, Dwayne DeRock Johnson's been one of my guys, so to see him transition into now he's gonna be Black Adam, we're gonna get Dwayne Johnson. You know, he's all I've always seen him as some kind of something like a superhero or just a bigger than life comic book character anyway, and now we're gonna get to see finally, finally, the rock will be Black Adam.
SPEAKER_00So it's gonna be awesome. They've only released a bit of a tease to his his outfit. I can't wait to see the full outfit because that dude's frickin' yoked figure in a a black Adam outfit. Shut up and take my money. He's he's gonna look the most comic book next to, I guess, what Chris Hemsworth at this point for the next Thor movie. Because Chris Hemsworth is training for the Hulk Hogan film that he's gonna be doing. So he's getting he's getting absolutely jacked for that on top of Thor.
SPEAKER_04Blows my mind. Blows my mind. Hulk Hogan's getting a move. Not not surprised that Hulk Hogan's getting a movie, but wow, yeah. There's gonna be a Hulk Hogan movie.
SPEAKER_00Crazy. I'm interested to see that mustache on on Chris Hemsworth.
SPEAKER_04I want to see, I want to see who they get to play Andre the Giant and who he has to body slap.
SPEAKER_00Oh god, that's gonna be a hell of a casting and hard casting and and how do you do that? Because who do who the hell else is out there that's like Andre the Giant?
SPEAKER_04There's there's somebody there's somebody. But Black Adam, I did love the the it looks like the release date, July 29th, 2022. Is I think that's the release date that I saw. And I just wanted to give a super shout out to The Rock and the people who were working on the movie, because in that film I saw that they did like this little cool raffle, or it seemed like maybe every Friday somebody put five dollars into a little kitty to a little pot. And then in the video it says, Oh, Raptor Three, how how much is the kitty? How much is the pot? Oh, it's three thousand. And the rock's like, well, it's it's ten thousand now. And it's like, look at that dude, man. Like just another probably testament to what this movie means to him. You know, it just wants everybody to be involved and just wants to, you know, get get everybody in and loves everybody. So yeah, I think the movie is going to be great. Who do you know who is directing Black Adam?
SPEAKER_00I don't. See, that's another way we we should have been a little bit more prepared.
SPEAKER_04Let's take a look at the Yeah, we can always just look it up real quick. Quick edits, quick edits, this quick edit brought to you by Chantam.
SPEAKER_00Chantam, everybody. You uh craving a good old-fashioned pork sandwich. You want a good old stack of ribs that just gets everywhere to the point where you need an entire bed sheet to make sure that you don't get it on you? Well, come on down to Chantam's. Sorry. Let's see. Black.
SPEAKER_04What did you call me?
SPEAKER_00See, now we're getting racist. I can spell words. I can't read that name. Nope. See if I if I attempt this name.
SPEAKER_04No, I'm gonna I'm gonna go for it. I'm gonna go for it. Let's see. 2022 film, let's see. Where's it? Director. Jame Colet Sera. There you go. How did you Justice? I don't know if you know this, but my name's Achili. So when you have a unique kind of pronunciation name, you kind of look at other pronunciated names, you go, like, well, I'm just gonna try it, cuz. Yeah. It's like saying Chooto Okafor or Dijman Hunsen, you know, Hunso. Remind me to tell you a real fun story real quick sometime about like the lady who heard my name and just like she my friend was like, This is my friend Akili. I saw her go through a little glitch and she was like, Did you say Kennedy? And it's like, nope. That's so her brain couldn't even comprehend.
SPEAKER_00So right, when whenever I introduce myself as Justin, I'm like, hi, my name is Justin. People go, Jason? And it's gotten to the point where I say yes. So I have people coming up to me still calling me Jason. And I just I go with it. I go with it. And to the point where if I hear people call out the name Jason, I still turn my head in case they were asking for me. Just in case.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I don't even I used to correct people and they're like Achilles? I don't even correct them now. One day they'll figure it out. My name's whatever you want it, but you let me call you Achilles this whole time. Like, well, yeah, that's that's cool too. You know, because when you yelled across the way, it's like I'm in Troy. Achilles! It's awesome. So let's go on ahead right into speaking of first looks and little teases, a Batman 89 comic.
SPEAKER_00Yes. Yes. Not only a Batman 89 comic, there's there's a a along with a Batman 89 comic, there's a a Superman 78 comic coming out.
SPEAKER_05Holy snap, look at that.
SPEAKER_00I'm uh me being the Chris Reeve, Superman, Bridget Donner fan, which by the way, I'm gonna stop right there. Really quick, I just want to, you know, condolences to his family and and to to all the fans out there. It's a it's a heck of a loss. The guy was old, so I mean it's not like it was a the man was only fifty-four. He meant he was he was up there. So uh Lead the Weapon 5, folks, directed by Mel Gibson coming up. Back to what we were saying, though. Batman 8 Batman 89. Batman 89 comic, the first look that they have right now, and I am all for it. It's always interesting seeing. It's always interesting seeing the uh the the Michael Keaton Batman costume in comic book form.
SPEAKER_04I love I love the um the sh the cover shots that they've been showing. One in particular is a really great one of Harvey Dent, the Billy D. Williams, Harvey Dent, in an alley, and it looks like Batman's kind of closing in on him, and there's a shadow, and everywhere inside the shadow of the bat you see two-face, and then outside the shadow of the bat looks like regular Harvey Dent. And I just love the I the idea of a Billy D. Williams Two-Face. I would love it if like w one half is just you know the Harvey Dent that we know, and the other half he just slips into like Lando Cowersian. It's hilarious.
SPEAKER_00Hello, what have we here? And now we're gonna kill you. No, don't do that. Yes.
SPEAKER_04Keep it together, man. He's just calming himself down. Keep it together, man. Come on, I'm working on it. Need all the help I can get, you know.
unknownRight.
SPEAKER_04So yeah, Batman 89. I think that's going to drop next month, August?
SPEAKER_00August or September, I believe.
SPEAKER_04August or September is uh uh one.
SPEAKER_00So it's a I think it's a six part run. Yes, same with the with with Superman 78. Wonderful, wonderful.
SPEAKER_04Have they released any cover for the Superman one or anything yet? Or there's nothing.
SPEAKER_00They did. It's it's him flying toward the screen through the city or flying towards the uh cover. There you go. Looks good.
SPEAKER_04Is it the the classic like one fist up flying into the one fist up, one fist towards the chest. He's got that that Chris Reeve smile, he's got that curl. Yeah. Cool. So Batman 89 and Superman 78 comics coming. And I'm pretty sure we'll buy those, read those, and then we'll talk about those segment at some point. Absolutely.
SPEAKER_00We're definitely talking about those. But uh speaking of Batman 89, there were some set leaks, ladies and gentlemen, came out today from the Flash set. And uh I'm excited. I'm really excited.
SPEAKER_04Now, this is this is something that you have not uh showed. This is one of the surprises that you kept for me.
SPEAKER_00I just sent you the photos. Alright, alright. So let's go on ahead. I was able to find these photos after they even got taken down.
SPEAKER_05The Batmobile motherfucker! It's back. Shit.
SPEAKER_04The Anton First Batmobile. The best. Okay, you you all can fight me for this. I don't care. This is the best Batmobile ever assembled in any form of Batman. I don't care. This is this is my Batman. Oh, look at that car. So nice. Oh my lord. And then what is is that supposed to be that is supposed to be the Batcave, yeah. Oh my god. Yo, look at that car folks.
SPEAKER_00Um it it's basically photos of the Batmobile, photos of the Batcave, and the the final photo, which even says test above it, is uh of Supergirl wearing a cape as opposed to the photos that we've already seen of her smiling while still being probably very uncomfortable hanging from wires without the cape. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04This takes me back to a a talk that a couple years ago a Fat Man and um Batman were Mark Bernardin kind of not I'm not gonna say he spoke this into existence, but he was talking about it's like, oh, well, you know, just imagine if they did a flashpoint movie, then you can create a world where you bring back Michael Keaton, you could bring Bat Christian Bale. When they were talking about it, I do believe it was before Adam West died. So they were like, you could even have 66 Batman possibly just pop up as super old man Batman and like, oh, well, look at that. You know? So here we are in a here we are in a time where yeah, uh this is just this is a great time to be a nerd. It's a great time to be a comic book fan. It's a great time to be a superhero fan because now all those things that we talked about when we were kids, like, oh, what if what if one day, you know, they're gonna make this into this, and they're gonna have this person, this person's gonna be in it, and then you know, uh now here we are, you know, talking about Flashpoint, Michael Keaton's coming. Michael Keaton's coming back, man. Oh, I'm so excited.
SPEAKER_00Take my money. All of it. Take my money. Well, not all of it. I I need to but take enough money so I can see the movie at least two years.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, leave me enough for a dollar menu. I might want a little cheeseburger or something. So cool, man. Yes, sir. So is that is that the news? Or did you have the news? Did you have another did you have another surprise for me? Because that was No, I don't have I don't have any other surprises. I'll admit I'll admit, Jay. That was a good one. That was a good one. Thank you. That was a good one. You got me. I might even make a new profile picture with the Batmobile. A, that's the best. That'll get taken down, but go ahead. I'm gonna say this again. I'm gonna say this again. We can talk about this all day. That is the best Batmobile that's ever been conceived. Fuck all these tanks and shit he's driving now. Like, he's he's got the rumbler, the tumbler. Give me the one that he can split the sides off and turn into a bullet and go through the smallest alleys possible in Gotham. You know what I mean? Love that car. Love it. Love it. So, shall we get into the meat and potatoes of our episode this week? Loki which has to do, which has to do with probably one of my if I'm talking about the whole MCU, probably in my top three best actors in the MCU right now, brother Tom Hiddleston knocking out Loki left son and getting his own show. And it was the show that when they announced everything coming up, I said, This is the one that's gonna get me. Right. Um, that's that's it's going to be my favorite, and so far, yep, yeah, is my favorite.
SPEAKER_00It's it's just I remember sitting in the theater uh when when I was watching Endgame, and the moment he grabbed the Tesseract and just poofs away in that cloud, I went, Oh, there's your show. Here we go. And sure as shit, there it was.
SPEAKER_04Hey, everybody, um you know, just because I uh going to the movies with with just if if I've learned anything about going to the movies with Justin, I have a uh a much higher appreciation. Look, just I I understand things happen, the the real world, life doesn't stop, but you know, just dim your phone, put it on vibrate, like we're you you're here to you're here to watch a movie, you know, like keep you know they say silence your cell phone, just turn it the fuck off and put it in there for a little bit. Like, you know, or if you absolutely have to get that call, just step outside real quick, you know, because that that brightness, like we're going to hear you. We're going to hear you, we're going to see you. And if you're with somebody like Justin, he's gonna let you know that hey shut up. So yeah, turn get phone.
SPEAKER_00Phone that guy was so shocked that somebody just walked up behind him and said, Hey, excuse me, can you turn your damn phone off? And he was just like, Oh, and he left. He yeah, he did seem very just like, well, come on, bro.
SPEAKER_04What are we talking about? Yeah.
SPEAKER_00When your phone is brighter than the screen in front of you, there's a problem.
SPEAKER_04Facts. Yep.
SPEAKER_00Yes. So let's do it. Loki.
SPEAKER_01Loki.
SPEAKER_04We're gonna we're gonna kinda go through episode by episode. I mean, we're not gonna, you know, break it down like minute by minute, but we're just gonna take some some some some key moments in each episode and just, you know, kind of just talk about talk about the show.
SPEAKER_00Before we uh go into any type of spoilers, let's let's kind of just give a a a brief rundown of of the show itself without giving away any you know key details and elements of of the story. So basically we have continuing from what we saw in Endgame.
SPEAKER_04Picks up right picks up right when he picks it up and bamps out. They even show you.
SPEAKER_00They even show you a quick little edited version of that and and give you a uh a bit of a catch-up and bamps into He Bamps into a whole world of shit that he was not expecting. He he goes on a a massive roller coaster ride of of new information and he meets new people along the way. And we find out uh new things about his character throughout this whole thing.
SPEAKER_04So And we find out new things about just about everything. So I think that's about as non-spoilers as we can as we can get.
SPEAKER_00I mean, I'm I'm even putting in the the in the description below that uh we're not gonna be having much in the ways of non-spoilers. It's kind of hard to talk about this entire show and not spoil anything about it.
SPEAKER_04So much to unpack. This yeah, this is great.
SPEAKER_00Let's just So overall, did you enjoy the show?
SPEAKER_04Not really, no.
SPEAKER_00No? Okay. Well then let's just go ahead and skip to the end.
SPEAKER_04Loki was so good. Loki was was my favorite of the show so far, as I knew it would be. And in fact, it's it's one of my favorite just entities in the Marvel cinematic universe right now. Yeah. I wanted it to just I I wanted this to be a movie. Loki could have had his own movie and they could expand on this and would have been just as good, but to break it down into a six-part little show was also just as good. So I I I super enjoyed it. How about you?
SPEAKER_00It it's definitely my number one when it comes to the the three shows that have been released so far. I was, you know, fighting over between which would be second when it comes to Falcon and Wandavision. And uh Falcon came in second for me, and uh Wandavision third.
SPEAKER_04And I'll admit Falcon Winter Soldier was always going to be second just because I'm I I'm biased because of how it plays out, of course. But so yeah, I was always going to be second.
SPEAKER_00So uh yeah, that one definitely came came in second for me, but this one was so fun. I've had so many people tell me that they it's basically just the Marvel's Doctor Who, and I don't watch Doctor Who, which again we probably lost a lot of people.
SPEAKER_04Well, well, I'll say I'll save everyone. I'll save I'll save it. Everybody, wait, wait, before you turn off, uh my lovely lady, who I mentioned a little bit in the last episode, Kayla, she is one of the biggest Doctor Who fans that you'll ever meet. So I know just enough about Doctor Who to stay in the conversation. In fact, I'll give you a little connective tissue here. The wonderful lady who plays Gamora's sister is an actress named Karen Gilliam. She ends up being one of the what they call companions that of Doctor Who. So she is a Doctor Who alum. Oh. Yeah, she is the companion to Matt Smith's doctor. So yeah, so Karen Gilliam is a Doctor Who alum. So there you go. Bravo. So yeah, there's your Doctor Who kind of little thing for you there, Justin.
SPEAKER_00There it is. Okay. Now I know. And uh and if anybody ever asked me any Doctor Who's question, I can answer every single one of them now. No, you can't. Okay. False. And I am not caught up. Okay.
SPEAKER_04Episode one, Glorious Purpose. As I was doing these researches for these, I saw that for every episode Disney made these little promotional posters that I didn't see that had like a quote from the show, which I thought was neat. So if the quote from Glorious Purpose that they have was there's a fork in every road, yet the wrong path is always taken.
SPEAKER_00There it is. Bravo. Mm-hmm. Yeah, Glorious Purpose. Episode one. Or as I like to call part one, retrospection. Because this is a total Do you not remember Thor? Do you not remember Thor two? Do you not remember the Avengers or have you not watched those yet? Do you want to just jump in and watch Loki? Well here, watch episode one. We'll catch you up. To the point where Yurk being caught up with Loki. Because he has no idea. All this other shit that comes after.
SPEAKER_04And it's fitting that you call it that because even the director, wonderful Kate Heron, the director of this it's Heron or Heron. Uh Kate Heron. Um, she said that the first episode was really more of a prologue and that the next episode is really chapter one. So it's kind of it's it's interesting that you would say it is like a retrospective. I think it's supposed to feel like that, so it's cool.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And and they did it quite well when it comes to pulling you into the mystery that that he is uh uncovering when it comes to the TVA. And when it comes to the style of the TVA, I I I loved that that 1960s, everything's brown and orange. You're you're expecting to see like an avocado green refrigerator in the corner somewhere. It was very retro looking, and I I enjoyed that. Down to like the like the telephones. There's like a telephone on the phone.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, the the old school just flipping like the old school like train station, like where when they're going through things, it's just like flipping. It just felt very retro.
SPEAKER_00The uh the DMV style lines, and you take a ticket and walk them through it.
SPEAKER_04Take a ticket, take a ticket. No, ticket. Do you have your ticket?
SPEAKER_05No.
SPEAKER_00Well that I loved I loved it when he he says it's like, this is a mistake, I'm not even supposed to be here.
SPEAKER_02And it's like, hi, y'all. Right now you're probably thinking this is a mistake, and I'm not even supposed to be here.
SPEAKER_04Good old Miss Minutes. We are introduced in episode one to the TVA, everyone, and they are we learned that they are apparently responsible for keeping a universal timeline in order set forth by the timekeepers. Miss Minutes, who is voiced by Tara Strong, who if you're listening to this, then you might already know who Tara Strong is because she's a major hitter in the in the world as far as voice acting and all that. She's done the Powerpuff Girl, she was on Teen Titans, she's even done some voice for voice stuff for video games. So she comes through with little holographic little thing that just kind of bounces in front of you and tells you a wonderful, has a wonderful accent and tells you a wonderful story about the time, the the whole timeline. And then we get to find out the this whole thing about the timekeepers and the and this whole war, and it's just like, wow, this is this is neat, you know.
SPEAKER_00Yes, I I enjoyed her her very much uh uh Mr. DNA feel, like from Jurassic Park. Hi, everybody. I'm Mr.
SPEAKER_05DNA, the dinosaurs the dinosaurs.
SPEAKER_00Yes. And it got caught in the sap.
SPEAKER_05So it just had that that very uh try to find the pull to fill in the holes.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and we can actually make a living dinosaur. Yeah, you know what? I did not even piece that kind of thing together. I was like, yeah, that is Mr. DNA vibes. Good, good, put another mark on the board for you, man. Another gold star for you, Justin. Thank you. That's cool. We're introduced to characters, I already talked about Miss Minutes. We are introduced to Mobius M. Mobius, played by the wonderful and funny Owen Wilson. It would take me a long time to run down his film credits. I feel like you should know who Owen Wilson is. Mr. Wow himself. Um Zoolander, Wedding Crashers, Life Aquatic, just to name a couple. Uh, and then we're also we meet Judge Rovanna Rinslayer, who's played by, and here's another fun one, Goo Mboth Ra. Mbathi Ra. That is the young lady's wonderful name.
SPEAKER_00So I'm glad you took that one.
SPEAKER_04Another fun one, great one. We're introduced to Hunter B15, played by the lovely Woon Me Musaku. So there we go. Okay. Yeah. I just I you know, for I was like, man, if I'm if we're gonna do anything, we're gonna try to nail these names because we failed last one, last episode. It's like we're gonna do, we're gonna nail these names and these people because yeah.
SPEAKER_00And we don't have to like I said, episode two, better than episode one.
SPEAKER_04Right. And and so basically, uh just a quick kind of thing for episode one. We find out that Loki has been a bad boy, and he has stepped out of his timeline, and he is has been caught and is going to get pruned. He's a variant of a of a Loki, and we come to find out that there's a variant that has been attacking members of the TVA and killing them, and he needs to be stopped. And Mobius M. Mobius feels like this Loki can help.
SPEAKER_00Yes, and uh he gives him the opportunity to do so. Indeed. And which at at that point we we get a quick little uh look at a cloaked figure in 1858, I believe is where it was. And when they scanned the object for the from the 31st century, I went, aha. Okay. Here we go. Because uh those who read comic books and know about 31st century know that a certain someone comes from said 31st century, which we'll also touch on.
SPEAKER_04Oh, it's we're gonna we're getting there. We're getting there. That's right.
SPEAKER_00That's right.
SPEAKER_04Some some some cool things I just wanted to point out in the episode. Just I go go to my notes. I just have TVA. Just the whole idea of the TVA and this whole war, I thought was really neat. I have DB Cooper. Um, because that's a very cool thing where it turns out Loki was the the urban myth D.B. Cooper.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_04That's I thought that was really neat. I thought that was a really cool shot. You get to see Hiddlison you know, in Loki, but being, you know, in a suit and just kind of doing his thing, and I have a bomb, you know, just being kind of adorable and whatnot.
SPEAKER_00At that point, Loki had had been introduced to his upcoming future, you know, realizing after you know the with the DB Cooper thing, he said, like, yeah, and that's not it. This is this is also what would happen had you had we not caught you. And had you not gone through that portal, you would have been arrested and encaged in Asgard. And I like him, he's just like, I don't believe it.
SPEAKER_04Nah.
unknownNo.
SPEAKER_01Push his play. No, there you go.
SPEAKER_04And I think it was really neat to have him go back and watch what happens on his own. We get to see we get to see the master class of acting from Tom Hiddleston where he can he can roll a tear without blinking, as as some great actors can do, you know, when he's watching that his mother did pass away, he's watching that, oh, he actually had a good relationship with his brother.
SPEAKER_00And then Well, hearing hearing Thor saying it's like I I thought the world of you. I thought the world of you. Yeah. And that that right there just gave him that that that that bit of a that that crying smile, you know, the teardrops, and he's able to give that little bit of that that giggle. And then that that giggle then goes into oh shit when he watches what happens. And I love that they stayed on his face when you hear the snap, because you don't cut away from someone like Tom Hiddleston when it comes to that type of acting. Right. You you stay on him, and if you've already seen you've already seen him to get his neck snapped, and everybody else has already seen it, don't need to see it again. It's okay. Go watch Infinity War again if you really need to see it. Yeah, and it's not the point of that scene. The point of that scene is him realizing that I've just watched the end of my life.
SPEAKER_04And then, big point of the whole show. Come to the end, Mobius kind of turns to him's like, Yeah, so are you gonna help us out? Because we could really use your help. It's like, well, why me? It was like, well, cause the variant that we're hunting is you. It's you.
SPEAKER_00Yep. What mind blood and credits roll.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Super, super. So that I I you know, glorious purpose, episode one is off and running, and I'm invested. I'm invested from the gate. From just out the gate, you know, just right showing that where they picked up right when he bamps through. And I just love the he drops in, sees these people, and just goes right into Loki mode. He's like, hear me! He just goes right into like I want to rule mode. Like he just just just looks around and just huh. And I love the uh the Iron Man vibes you give. Just that whole like waking up, you know, you fought Phil and waking up in the in the in the desert and just like, oh, okay. So yeah, I I enjoyed episode one, and uh, that's all the notes I have for episode two.
SPEAKER_00I enjoyed this episode very much. It it made me when I first started watching it immediately go, yeah, I I want to see more. Next episode, please. Me too.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, it was it yeah, it the credits rolled up and I was just like, no, no, damn it, damn it.
SPEAKER_00Which is another thing that I want to uh mention is I like the fact that I'm excited for a certain day of the week again. It's been a long time since a show has made me go, oh it's Friday, or oh it's Wednesday, because everything has gone the Netflix route, or you it would get released and you'd have to w you know the entire season released, or you could just wait and then you just watch all of them back to back after they've already been released. But when it comes to these Marvel movies or the Marvel shows and the the the Star Wars shows, you you get to to wake up in the morning or before you go to bed at night and go, ooh, it's gonna be tomorrow when I wake up I get to have my coffee and watch this, or tomorrow night I get to, you know, watch a new thing with dinner. And it's fun being able to be excited about a certain day of the week again because I haven't felt that since early twenties, teenage years. Nice. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04More so to that point, it's it's it's a show that like especially with my working schedule now, it's a show that like as soon as midnight hits, I want to watch it. Like I don't want to wait till I don't want to wait till the next day. Um like and so what time's it midnight? Loki's on, put it on. You know, that's that's that's it's been a long time since that happened because I didn't do that for WandaVision or you know, or Falcon Warner Soldier. I was just like, yeah, I'll catch it the next day and this, that, and the third, but you know, Loki, it's like, is it midnight? Put it on.
SPEAKER_00When I was editing uh the last episode, I looked down and it said uh 1157 on my computer. And I went, Well, fine. Alright, I'm already awake. There you go. That's what's up.
SPEAKER_04Nope. It takes us into episode two, the variant.
SPEAKER_00Oh, as I like to say, part two, introduction.
SPEAKER_04The quote for episode two is Where there are wolves' ears, wolves' teeth are near. And this one opens up to I love the intro of this episode specifically, because it is something that is very near and dear to both of our hearts. It opens up on it opens up on a renaissance fair in 1985 in Wisconsin, I believe. What's a renaissance fair? What is a renaissance fair? A Renaissance fair, for those that don't know, is uh the it's where we you come, you can hang out, and you can relive some some olden days when when there was queens and and knights and and pirates take over. We happen to work some. Um and in fact, it's near and dear to my heart because that is how this gentleman and myself met.
SPEAKER_00Yes, yes. We were walking through and and we were both wearing the same knights outfit. And uh we realized that because that they were entirely made of blood light cans, that that the two of us were we were on the same wavelength and said, ah, yeah, this guy. Yep, that's the story, and we're sticking to it.
SPEAKER_04That's exactly what happened.
SPEAKER_00That's it. But um I mean, if you want to lie about it, you can, but I I I just want everybody to know exactly who we are. For sure. Yes.
SPEAKER_04Uh but 1985 turns out the variant shows up and takes a member of the TV hosta all right that she'd been killing him and attacking him up to this point. She actually takes one hostage now. And the one she takes is Hunter C20, played by Sasha Bianca Lowe, uh, who uh who made a day who made her debut in a movie called American Honey a couple years ago.
SPEAKER_00So she was actually also in the recent Hellboy.
SPEAKER_04What was your take on uh episode two?
SPEAKER_00I I enjoyed again, I enjoyed episode two. I really enjoyed watching Loki's progression when it comes to just kind of adapting to his situation being stuck at the TVA. Not quite prisoner, but then again, not quite employee. So it it it was it was cool seeing him doing the research and and trying to blend in. Yes, I just got back from a uh another another very important mission and you know, redlining, and we don't want that to happen. You know how it is. But first episode, second episode, I enjoyed quite a bit.
SPEAKER_04I I do love the beginning when he basically is trying to play whack-a-mole with Miss Minutes. Fanta fantastic little thing, where she's stop that.
SPEAKER_00Where you kind of figure out, and he even figures out that she's she is somewhat sentient.
SPEAKER_04Correct, which will be very important later, later in the show, ladies and gentlemen. Um, but this is the episode when we basically get to see Detective Loki, and he he has to figure out where the variant is hiding, and he figures out that, oh, the variant is hiding in apocalyptic moments because they're harder to track by the TVA because they consider them dead timelines. So in this discovery, he goes to test this theory. He they go to Pompeii, where Loki once again, even even when Mobius is like, you know, let's keep a low profile. There goes Loki.
SPEAKER_05Everyone! The volcano is about to explode! You're all about to die!
SPEAKER_03We know because we are from the future. We are from the future, right? I mean, it does sound it does sound like a future kind of thing.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah. And so so the theory's the theory is tested, and it turns out that uh they figure out that the variant. Has popped up in 2050, Alabama, at a hurricane. And they get sent to Roxcart Superstore where we get to see the variant of Loki kind of putting this little mind whammy on people. You know, there's there's people with green eyes that are you know looks like she's kinda going in and out, and I reason why because I why I keep saying she is because we get the big reveal that once the hood is pulled back, it is a lady Loki. It's a l it's a lady. Played by Sophia Di Martino. And she's done some a lot of work in the UK, some shows and things like uh shows and some movies over there, and so yeah, she she you she pulls the hood back and she's got this a Loki looking crown that's missing half a horn, and you just kind of go, look at that, and then she steps through a portal and boom, we're off and running. And Loki follows her, and then credits.
SPEAKER_00I was and still kinda am convinced that she is basically going to be the Marvel Universe version of Enchantress. Well, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Well, yeah, yeah. Funny, funny that you say that. I do have I do have a side note. We're basically that's where I guess some of the inspiration for her whole thing came from is uh a version of like a lady Loki that's an in that's an enchantress. So yeah, that's that's kind of part of what they're kind of going for. In fact, when we get into the next episode, I can further expand on on that whole thing. Bitching. And so that's episode two. Did you have anything else about episode two, my friend?
SPEAKER_00No. Like I said, I enjoyed episode one and two. I really don't know how much detail I've even given on on much of of these episodes so far. I don't have much to say about episode three and four. Man, I enjoyed them. But after you know finishing the series, I went back and watched it again. There are certain things that I'm gonna uh bring up in a little bit about what they cut out. Okay. And there were parts that they could have cut out of both of these episodes, even five minutes worth of material that they could have cut out in order to include the things that they had cut out of the episodes after these. So I enjoyed the character development uh between the two when it comes to episode three and four.
SPEAKER_04In fact, let's let's let's go on ahead and dive right into that. Um episode three, yeah, Lamentous.
SPEAKER_00Um part three I'd like to call Revelation. Yes.
SPEAKER_04And the quote here is Love is a dagger. Turns out that there's this thing growing between Loki and Loki. This is when we find out that the variant does have a name. She calls herself Sylvie. And the reason why I wanted to touch on the Enchantress thing is because I believe Sylvie Lushton was an enchantress, one of the enchantresses, and that's where the Sylvie name came from. So I think you're spot on that she's gonna be enchantress. I think that's I think you're hitting that right on the head. Uh-huh. Uh the biggest thing, uh, you know, because I again I think this episode was really used to this wasn't necessarily filler episode, um, but it definitely is there for you to pay attention to the relationship growing between Loki and Loki.
SPEAKER_00Well, I think that they they had to give that at least one or two episodes, because if you just have the two of them, I wouldn't say falling for each other, but at least uh you're building something.
SPEAKER_01Okay, fine, I'll say that.
SPEAKER_00If you have the if you have the two of them falling for each other in less than one episode, it just absolutely unbelievable, especially when it comes to that character. Trust us, but uh you know, I will say in this episode, you do start to see the beginning of of Loki enjoying somebody. Right. Had he been talking to a mirrored version, just like looking at himself, it's it the exact same look, and it's just they I I think that they one of them would have tried killing each other just just immediately. But the fact that it A it was a a a different version of Loki, uh a female version, it kind of just stopped him in his tracks a little bit. But the overall attitude, and I'll go back to the I said the same thing about Falcon and Winter Soldier, was the the bickering between the two of them. The bickering between Falcon and Winter Soldier seemed more like, you know, the younger brother poking at the older brother. The bickering between Sylvie and Loki seemed more like in and it's exactly what they were going for. The bickering between two people who thought that they didn't like each other but then ended up in a relationship together eventually. It's that type of of bickering because it's the same they would pull on each other, and you know, when somebody throws an insult out, you know, sometimes you can kind of go, haha. I take that. Right, right. That was funny. But that's all I can say about that episode. There's I didn't find anything else that was well, I'll tell you, just nothing grabbed me.
SPEAKER_04I'll I'll tell you the couple things that grabbed me. So there that was the the building the building relationship. I do have a note that says sneaking on to the train. So the the the the whole his bad acting?
SPEAKER_00Okay, all I like is bad acting if that's what you're about to mention.
SPEAKER_04Where he has to play the guard and she's this is not gonna work. Of course this will work.
SPEAKER_00Uh have to get her on the train if you if you watch it again, because I didn't see it the first time I watched it, he's standing there and he's he's almost like he's preparing to go on stage. And when he starts walking, he doesn't even get to make it more than three steps. But those three steps are the most awkward entrance from left, you know, left stage onto center stage walk that you would see from a new actor, which is hilarious.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, that moment when you've been doing dress rehearsals, rest dress rehearsals, practice rehearsals, you walk out and you can do it, and there's no one there, and then it's opening night, you walk out, and it's like all of a sudden there's a bunch of people staring at you, and it's like yeah. Yes.
SPEAKER_00Orders came down from the top. And he just needs to have everything he's doing, is just that that that little bit, just bring it down a notch. Bring it down a lot.
SPEAKER_04And you know what's funny? You know what I think? This being Loki as as the character Loki, I think he took uh it almost like he used the voice he used to make fun of Captain America to just try to go up there and like this this is this is important. Orders came from the top. It's like he's making fun of Captain America. Like in his mind, he's like, what are these authority figures like? Uh uh, Captain America. Yeah, they they they were they they respond to that. I'll just go with that. I'll go with that. That's my mo what's my motivation here, Captain America, go.
SPEAKER_00Right, you know. I just looked at it as as he was trying to be as smooth as possible, and he just couldn't pull it off.
SPEAKER_04If he was being himself, I think that's why he ends up getting drunk on the train because he's just like, fuck this, man. Like I'm just I'm gonna just do I'm gonna do me.
SPEAKER_00Um, but it's like it the entire time that he's been doing all this, it could have been a a good uh uh week or so up until this point, and it doesn't really show people having what I mean, the uh judge and and and Mobius end up having a drink together. But you don't see Loki having a drink, so I'm sure that at that point when he gets offered the champagne, it's like, oh god, give me that. Like just I just need that little bit of a moment, please. Thank you. Right.
SPEAKER_04Something that feels a little something that's finally familiar to him. Something that's like, you know, yeah, being through all this crazy. It's like, okay, well, here's something, here's here's something I can do. Um, the two biggest things that jumped out on this episode, um, one, uh, it turns out Justin, everybody that works for the TVA is a variant.
SPEAKER_01Right. Whoa, crazy, you know, and so now these people that were created by the TVA. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Mm-hmm. And so now that's starting to be a whole thing. That's how Mobius starts to get his whole, okay, because there's the whole side relationship that we haven't spoken spoken about yet between the um, I want to get her name, Rovanna Renslayer, the judge, and Mobius. That, you know, they can tell there's a little they either have a thing, had a thing, and it's Mobius is like, well, you know, uh, how come I can't see the the the timekeeper? And she's like, Well, the timekeepers are always very busy doing what? Keeping the timeline together, you know, and it's like this whole and he starts to doubt a lot of things. So that was a big moment, uh, especially when we and we know that because it turns out Sylvie can just dive into people's memories, and that's how she's trying to get her information about who the timekeepers are. Because she trying to jumps inside of Hunter C20's head and turns out, you know, tries to befriend her, like, oh Sylvie, you're so funny. Like she's at a restaurant, they're at this bar, and so real nuts. Um so biggest thing that comes out of episode three, it's very important that we mention, is Justin turns out Loki Laughson bisexual.
SPEAKER_00Yes. Yeah. Well, I mean, uh, I've always looked at Loki as like he'd probably have sex with a tree.
SPEAKER_04Hangs out with the guys and the gals. Yeah, it didn't surprise me, but I do have some some production notes. Turns out, and this is not blowing anything out, it's out there, you all can go see it. The director, Kate Heron, is also bisexual, and she wanted to make it, she said, I'm gonna write it down. She said it was important to her, and her goal was to make sure that to acknowledge that Loki was bisexual. It was something that was important to her, and she said that she just wanted to make it feel like it was like a natural conversation that people would have about it, and so that's why it felt that's why it wasn't like a almost like a big reveal. It was just like really like, oh yeah, it's like you've you've you've been with guys, and girls like, yeah, it's been been with both. Like it's just it does feel very natural how they talk about it. They just wanted to make sure we acknowledge that and you know, gave Kay Heron her little put you point on the board, Kay Heron. You have gold star next to Justin.
SPEAKER_00They've definitely touched on it, but then they kind of just moved past it. Like you said, like it was just a a normal conversation. As if somebody said, Yeah, yeah, I ride motorcycles, so that's cool.
SPEAKER_06That's cool.
SPEAKER_00And I'm now gonna enjoy just listening to all the people go, I'm not gonna watch Thor anymore because freaking Loki's gay, and I'm not gonna watch that crap anymore because this and that. And then I'm gonna laugh at them and go, Well, you're not okay with him being gay, but you're perfectly fine with him giving birth to an eight-legged horse. Because guess what, folks, in the comic books, he gives birth to an eight-legged horse. Uh which you end up seeing in the world. That was a thing, yeah. Well, but you know, can't have that guy be bisexual.
SPEAKER_04Which again didn't surprise me because I'm I'm just I'm just in this realm of like Asgard has this Roman god feel to it anyway. It's like, you mean to tell me you don't think these people had or you don't you don't think that Loki Loki hosted some orgies in his day and was just like, yep, it's all about me? Like, come on. That's what's you know, come on. That happened. So it's like I wasn't surprised at all. Like I came in going like, yeah, you know.
SPEAKER_00The first openly gay character will be introduced in uh Eternals. Nice. Yeah. So that's that's going to be happening. Uh wonderful.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I enjoyed the the ending of this episode where where you have them racing for the ship so they can take the power and be able to use the uh transportation device. But nope. I I love just that that shot of them seeing it explode, but then it just goes to them just standing there and his jaws practically on the floor. She just turns around and goes, ah, fuck it, I'm out of here.
SPEAKER_04Well, because that whole discussion, he's like, we can just hijack the ship, and from the gate, she's like, that's not going to work. And it's just her whole turn has this feel of like, I told you so, you dumb motherfucker. Now we're stuck here, so I'm just gonna start walking away. My response to that type of attitude was like, hey, at least we tried.
SPEAKER_00You know, sure. Yeah, what else are you gonna do?
SPEAKER_04Right. Right. I mean, what else are you gonna do? Like, you know.
SPEAKER_00Now now we can just watch, but we had we had to at least get to the point of we're fucked before we can say we're fucked. Correct.
SPEAKER_04So yeah. Then we jump into episode four, the nexus event.
SPEAKER_00Yes. But I call it part four apprehension.
unknownApprehension.
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_04Which is if if there is a turning point to them to the show, I do believe it happens in episode four, with what they call the Nexus event. Yes. The quote for this is Don't Ruin the Sacred Timeline, which is very much in part with the Nexus event. Turns out, ladies and gentlemen, because these two are kind of forming this little thing for for one another, the two Loki's, they've created what they call a Nexus event, and the TVA doesn't like that. In fact, that is how they get found. Um because they weren't able to be found because they were in an apocalyptic world. In fact, they were in the apocalyptic episode. It's the category one, you know, the bad one. But because they started to do this thing, the two doors pop up, whoop, and they're able to get brought back into the TVA because they've started this whole crazy little love thing or or or friendship thing that you don't really know is happening here.
SPEAKER_00So yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, well, well, well, let's let's let let's do a little bit of this up. I mean, as much as I wasn't a fan of this episode, and we can we can breeze past it, um, there there was some some cool things when he was thrown into the time loop prison. I I enjoyed that.
SPEAKER_04We get to s we get to see Lady Sif. Miss Jamie Alexander comes back as Lady Sif and she gets to basically come in and do an easy day's work of shoot where she gets to come in and say the same kind of lines over and over again because Loki gets put in this time loop where he just kind of gets his ass kicked. Yeah. And and she keeps saying, you know, you're you're always gonna be alone or you're gonna die alone or something like that. I thought it was really cool to see her come back in just this little small little moment. Yeah, that was neat. I wanted to give a shout out to to Jamie Alexander, just you know, she's known for Kyle XY and Blind Spot, but I know Jamie Alexander from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, a fun little show that and she was in either season one or season two, and she was way, way young in like 2005. So I I've I've I've been following Jamie Alexander since then. So when she first popped up in Thor, I was like, Oh, it's that it's the lady from Sunny in Philadelphia. And people went, from what? I'm like, from Sunny and Phil, you know, so that was not my first time seeing her as opposed to some other people. So I I did I didn't I did enjoy that that little time loop.
SPEAKER_00But it also while he was in that loop, it gave Morbius or Mobius, excuse me, not Morbius, uh, that's a vampire. Mobius, it gave Mobius time to figure out what's going on when it comes to being a variant, because it it during a whole little interview with Loki, he he realizes and was and gets told that he is a variant, which he doesn't believe at first, and then he goes, Wait a minute, let me just figure this, let me just figure this out. And yeah, swaps devices with the judge and and realizes she was lying about C20 coming back and not even be able to say a word, that she was losing her brain, or whatever the hell it was that you know Sylvie was having an effect on everybody that when she she takes over them, she scrambles the brain, but it turns out that's just a big old bloody lie. Right.
SPEAKER_04So which again we we we talked about this whole kind of thing that Ravina and Mobius had, and now it turns out, yeah, Ravina not being very uh truthful to Mobius, kind of lying to him, and he he's he's picked up on it. He's like, I I ain't about this shit. Wow, tell me the truth. Yeah, you know, he just wants wow, he just wants to know the truth, you know. What else did you lack?
SPEAKER_00I enjoyed, and it as much as it it sucks, I enjoyed the the shock that I experienced when you see Owen Wilson get pruned. Man, isn't that you don't you don't get that much in in shows and then when you see that's coming? I I stood up and yelled.
SPEAKER_04I was just like, whoa. I was like, oh no, she didn't.
SPEAKER_00Like I gave a good hearty fuck that. I stood up and went, fuck that! No, no, no. Wait, what about his jet ski? That's my thing. I want to see him on a jet ski.
SPEAKER_02Let him have his jet ski moment.
SPEAKER_00But when he got when he got pruned, it was it was enough of a moment where you watch your your friend get killed in a movie and the main character has that oh I'm I'm I'm pissed moment.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, so he and and then again we get to we get to see the timekeepers, Justice. And I'll be I'll be honest, the timekeepers were exactly what I thought they were going to be, because even from even when Miss Minutes was like, let me tell you about the timekeepers, I was going, that's bullshit. That's not that's this is a this is a false story. I was like, no, the timekeepers are going to be something something else. It's this is something else. This is this is the ruse. This is the ruse. This is not the real thing. And so we get to see the timekeepers, and they're in this really big cool room, and it g you know it's all set up, and turns out they're not real, Justin. Nope. They're they're three big mechanical some bitches, and just in that moment, Ravina gone ahead and she prunes Loki right out the shit.
SPEAKER_00At that moment, I was like, oh, so the line from Sylvie in episode two at the end when she said, Yeah, you ready for this? It's not about you. I I immediately went, okay, so this whole Loki series was a setup for Sylvie, for the new Loki that we would get. And and then they they surprise us with a lovely end credit scene where you get to see Loki wake up in a very devastated what looks like uh New York. But it's it we've learned that it's it's not, but it's a very devastated gray world that has three Loki's that we have never seen before, at least four. Four yes, four Loki's um one of them being Richard E. Grant, who is now, I will now say this as much as I am a fan of the Loki that we have, and much of a fan is episodes one and two. Episode five for me was my favorite episode.
SPEAKER_04Let's just jump right into it. You could say that episode five, Loki went on a journey into mystery, which is the name which is the name of the episode, and the tagline is We're stronger than we realize. And why do we have that tagline? Because, like you said, Loki pops up and turns around, there's four other Loki's staring right back at him, and we find out that it is uh kid Loki, classic Loki, boastful Loki, and my favorite, alligator Loki.
SPEAKER_03So your favorite's alligator Loki.
SPEAKER_04Come on, man, because it's the most ridiculous. It's it's so crazy. In fact, I have production notes about the Lokis. So first, let's let's go ahead and do what we didn't do last time. You already went on ahead and gave us our first actor, Mr. Richard E. Grant, as classic Loki.
SPEAKER_00You might remember him from such movies as LA Story and Whitnail and I. Logan, Star Wars Rise of the Hill. Of course, other things.
SPEAKER_04He's been around the block. He's a veteran, a great actor. The costume inspired by 1960 Jack Kirby.
SPEAKER_00Yes, which he was bitching about the costume too, because uh he didn't have a muscle suit. So he just said that he looked like a uh a uh what was it, uh, a guy in a Kermit the Frog outfit. And uh as much as he wasn't in a a muscle suit, I still my favorite Loki. Yes, hands down.
SPEAKER_04We'll get in more into him, but yeah, well as we break down the story, absolutely. But we have Boastful Loki, I wrote in parentheses because I'm that guy, Black Loki, played by here's another one, Diobia Opatri. Whew, that's that's that's about as uh I probably messed that up, but that's I I got the spelling right.
SPEAKER_00I'm still leaving all the names to you.
SPEAKER_04Um he turns out he was in I'd have to go watch the movie again to find him, but he was in Pirates of the Caribbean on Stranger Tides. He plays Gunner, so I'd have to go back and watch that movie because he popped up in there. He's done some other stuff, but he's playing Boastful Loki.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_04There is Kid Loki, played by a young man named Jack Veal. Couldn't get a lot of information on him, but this might be one of his first kind of he's maybe done some commercials or probably little small parts, but these are this probably his first big casting role, young Jack Veal. And then my favorite Loki, Alligator Loki, which in the production notes I have here from the producer and part writer Michael Waldron. He put him in simply because he's green. Yes. And he thought it'd be funny.
SPEAKER_00Alligator Loki was actually one of the first variant Loki's that he would that kind of hitched out to Marvel, and they immediately said, Yeah, do it.
SPEAKER_01Fine. So yeah.
SPEAKER_00So and Richard E. Grant was was quite uh he was quite appreciative of of the fact that they they didn't just use a green tennis ball, they sewed various pieces of cloth and foam and everything together to make a shape of an alligator.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, they they literally made like a little alligator doll that they had to that they got to hold around and carry. It was it was it was a it was yeah, I read that note. It's pretty cool.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Because why not if you got the fucking money? Just it's a it's a lot easier to act against a uh a foam stuffed animal than it is a tennis car. Correct.
SPEAKER_04So yeah, we can dive into this. So it turns out when you get pruned, ladies and gentlemen, you end up in the void.
SPEAKER_00Yes, you end up getting expelled from wherever you are. You're not getting disintegrated, you're not being completely erased from any timeline, you are being transported to an area that is a point at the end of time that just does not change. Just there is a a massive creature, uh smoke looking creature that they call Eliath, which is also from the comic books. And he is basically the guy that goes around cleaning everything up. You hungry? Go eat that thing, because we don't want it here anymore.
SPEAKER_04And how we get here again is turns out in the chamber when Sylvie's talking to Renslayer. She turns around and prunes herself, dropping her into the void where we turn and see the big smoke monster. But who comes along in a pizza delivery car to come save her? It's all Van Mobius and Mobius. Because yeah, you don't die.
SPEAKER_00Pizza on top. The pizza on top just kind of shaking around on the spring. Most ridiculous looking thing.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah. So Sylvie and Mobius are like, yeah, okay. We have to go find Loki. Here they are. And so yeah, see she she he comes along and saves her from that. But we get this great moment where Loki follows the other Loki's down to the hideout, where in the void, turns out Kid Loki is king.
SPEAKER_00Well, yeah, it's like you know, it's like, why wait a minute, wait a minute. Why is why are we here? You're the one with the horns. Why are you taking orders from him? You know, and it's like you might want to give him uh show him a little respect. This is his kingdom. He's like, oh yeah, well, what was your Nexus event? It's like, I'll kill Thor. Just turns around and keeps walking. And yeah, mic mic mic drop.
SPEAKER_04Now what? Yeah.
SPEAKER_00But when uh when they get to the point where they're going down uh to the little hideout underground, when they do the transition from above ground to below ground and they do the Simpsons style cartoon transition where you go underground and you see like the dinosaurs and the hidden batches of of nuclear waste and and all these different things.
SPEAKER_04When when you're going down there, you you see Thor's hammer, as uh cat Kat Dennings likes to call it Molnia. Molnia.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Uh but my favorite thing uh then almost becomes my least favorite thing. My favorite thing that they did was add it in Throg. My least favorite thing is that they added in Throg for half a second, and that's it. And let me get into detail about that.
SPEAKER_04Because I didn't know this was a thing. I was just like, oh, frog in a jar, that's cool.
SPEAKER_00Yes, Throg, the frog of thunder, uh originally back in the day when Thor was an actual doctor who ended up having a magical staff that when he smashed it on the ground, he gained the powers of Thor, and his his staff became a helmet. Or his staff became a uh it became his his hammer, and uh so when uh there was a part where a point in the comic books where a a a sliver of the staff broke off and a frog ended up picking it up and gaining the powers of Thor. Little helmet, little hammer, little gate, little everything. Uh so when they put that in, being that frogs are my favorite amphibians, I am uh ecstatic to see it. But then they just they just transfer away, and that's it. That's all you see of it, and that's I I'm so disappointed, and I'll tell you why. Because they cut a scene out of the fucking show where Loki was getting pummeled by little Throg Thor. And we already know that the voice of Throg for that one second when you hear him screaming, trying to get to the hammer was Chris Hemsworth. He had also done a whole lot more lines for they had filmed a scene where where Loki's getting his butt kicked by Throg. And supposedly it was hilarious. I have the quote from one of the writers, Eric Martin. He said, Comic fans will notice the frog of thunder in that jar. We actually shot a scene for the Time Theater in episode one of Loki getting pummeled by Frog Thor, but it had to be cut to keep things moving. It's too bad because Tom was funny as hell. Now, again, I go back to like maybe taking about five minutes out of one of the uh you know episode three or episode four and adding in that scene. Because it that couldn't have been more than what, thirty seconds to a minute of a frog kicking a guy's ass. How can we not put that in? So it's just funny. And then even the director confirmed that there was a scene that they had filmed that they ended up cutting out of Loki taking up the mantle as king and then turning Thor into a frog. So we they that was their intention from the beginning to have a scene with Throg and his either his origin story that they would have created for him at that point, or watching Loki get his butt kicked, and I'm I'm baffled. Baffled.
SPEAKER_04Baffled.
SPEAKER_00I I don't I don't understand how you you can you can have a few minutes of them talking on a train about how they don't like having their backs to frickin' doors or they don't sit backwards on a train, yet you can't have thirty seconds of a frog kicking a guy's ass. So sorry, Marvel, drop the ball there.
SPEAKER_04Maybe we'll get lucky when Loki is released on DVD and they'll have some cutscenes and other stuff. Maybe they'll throw that in. When when will that be?
SPEAKER_00Because how long has the first season of Mandalorian been out?
unknownI I don't know.
SPEAKER_00I don't know. I don't think Disney Plus is gonna be releasing anything on Blu-ray or DVD the way that Netflix does. And if they do, I don't think it's gonna be for quite a while.
SPEAKER_04Oh, damn it.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_04Well, we are on a different we are in a different time. We are in a streaming time. But well, hopefully, you know, hopefully they throw that in them in hell. They're making a whole thing about like, hey, here's like wait, and you might be right, because if we're getting a behind the scenes of the Luke thing, that would usually be on like a DVD or something. If they're just like, well, here it is on Disney Plus. Yeah, maybe they'll just start releasing bonus content just like that. Like, hey, here's a here's like a little 15-minute there you go.
SPEAKER_00They did it for Winter Soldier, they did it for WandaVision, so they'll definitely do it for Loki. Well, that's the same thing. I'm just I'm hoping maybe yeah, well, that's Disney Plus, man. They're smart about this right now because people can wait every you know six months and then and buy a movie that they had just seen in theaters and don't have to pay for it twice. Or now Disney's kind of just going, like, you know, fuck it. Not even gonna give them the option. The only way you can watch these series, the only way you can watch these movies is on Disney Plus. Pay us eight bucks a month. And I mean, cool, but I'm I'm a physical media type of person. I enjoy being able to have that stuff at home. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04I'm a collector. We both Justin and I have pretty nice. I mean, his is way more impressive, but he we both have little movie collections and we like to have like to have those things and you know to be.
SPEAKER_00We come from a time before the uh the internet and the the Wi-Fi. So we are prepared for times where the internet goes out, we're not gonna be able to watch our show or watch our movie, so you better buy it. Just in case. If you enjoy it, you don't know if the internet's gonna go out, and you the only way you have it is a digital copy, you're screwed. So, physical media, ladies and gentlemen. It it it's the way of the future. It's important. It's dying, though.
SPEAKER_04It is. Um, couple other little Easter eggs that were out there uh before we dive into President Loki, which was dope, unless you wanted to talk about some other things. No, Frog Thor was pretty much my thing. Talked about Throg, talked about Mirmir. Apparently, I saw it at the time and didn't know what it was, but we get to see the living tribunal's head is out there.
SPEAKER_06Yes.
SPEAKER_04We see there's a a version of a helicarier. Yeah. What's cool is there's some real world Easter eggs that they kind of threw in there that I wanted to just acknowledge because I thought it was really cool. There's the USS Eldridge, which is which, and if you don't know what the USS Eldridge is, that was a ship that was a part of what they call the Philadelphia experiment. That was this myth that they had this ship that had a cloaking device. Right. So I thought that was cool. They threw that in there because it's almost like, oh, it ended up in the void. There's that arcade game, Polybius, which was a another urban myth arcade game. They actually put a one in there, and it was supposed to be the urban myth about a game that was used for government data mining, that quote unquote men in black would walk into these arcades, look at this game, and it was supposed to be kind of monitoring us as a people. Really weird, and all of a sudden they just disappeared off the arcade market. Never existed, but they put that in the they put one in the show, and I thought that was really cool. And I didn't see this, but I have to go find it. Apparently, there's an ectocooler. Do you remember when high sea came out with the green ectocooler drink for Slimer way back in the day? Yes, I don't I'm I remember the kid drinking the high C. Yeah, that's that's it's the fucking ectocooler. I had no I had no idea. I was like, yeah, that's very cool.
SPEAKER_00I want to go back and look at it just for that. So I I remember laughing at the fact that everybody else is drinking wine while he's drinking a box of high C. It's like, no, I'm gonna have my juice. Right.
unknownRight.
SPEAKER_00I'm gonna stay there.
SPEAKER_04I've to be the level I have to be the level headed one in this group. Right.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, because I'm or just the fact that it's like he he just hasn't developed a taste for it yet.
SPEAKER_04That could could be, could be. Yeah, yeah. So then Justin, President Thor shows up. Loki. President Loki shows up. Right, right, right. President Loki shows up, and you know, he is played by Oh, oh, look, it's Tom Hiddleston. It's a version of Loki, that's a Tom Hiddleston. And Production Notes says that even Hiddleston said that when it comes to President Loki, President Loki would have been the worst of the bunch. He's the one that's just gone full, like, I want power, don't care, not gonna sway me, this and that. And I didn't know that the outfit was inspired by a four-part series of comics that came out in 2016 called Vote Loki, where yeah, it's about presidential election, and Loki tries to run for president. And I guess that's where the outfit came from. So I thought that was really neat. And he tries to he's got he's had this thing with kid, he's went and recruited a bunch of these other variants with him, and looks, you know, he's like, I'm taking you down, kid, and then boastful Loki tries to stand with president Loki, and then everybody just seems to kind of get betrayed, and there's a whole thing.
SPEAKER_00And I could be wrong, but I think one of the variants had uh a helmet where the horns were a were handlebars from a Schwin. Old classic uh Schwin style bike.
SPEAKER_04I didn't notice, I'd have to go back and look. That's funny.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I mean, one of them it looked like one of them had uh like little mirrors on it too, or one of the handles had a mirror on it. So Yeah, bicycle handle helmet Loki. Good times.
SPEAKER_01Good times.
SPEAKER_00And I didn't even notice that the rest of them were variants until the second time watching it, and you'd notice that that one of them blasts another variant with his Loki powers, and you know, the green energy comes out. I went, Oh, okay, so yeah, they're all variants.
SPEAKER_01Cool.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, so you know, classic Loki kind of like, you know, like he helps everybody escape, and then they run into uh Sylvie and Mobius, and Richard E. Grant, classic Loki does one of the coolest things that we get to see in the in the entire run of the show.
SPEAKER_00He ends up leaving Sylvie and everybody to to do their things on their own. So we think that oh, this is the end of these these three characters, the alligator and and kid and and classic end up taking off.
SPEAKER_04But when they're trying to enchant Eliath, you get this point where the big smoke monster, the one that the smoke monster that the smoke monster from Lost wishes it was.
SPEAKER_00That's right. So you end up having uh a moment where where Sylvie's about to be you know completely eaten by this monster, and you get just hands down to me, the coolest part of this entire show.
SPEAKER_06Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_00Uh yeah, everybody, you know, it has their their favorite moments. My favorite moment was watching Classic Thor or Classic. I did it. Now now I did it. Thanks a lot. No, uh, classic Loki do uh uh what you've always wanted to see him do, and it's just straight up using magic, just using just sorcery to the point where you see green flames coming out of his hands, and he's he's he's doing that that lifting pose that if he's like he's bringing up the entire city, and it is the it's just the coolest thing. Coolest thing. I don't give a shit if he's wearing a muscle suit or not. Richard E. Grant is the coolest frickin' version of Loki that I have seen in the entire Marvel universe. I want to see more of Richard E. Grant. I want an entire mini-series of what I call the spandex universe.
SPEAKER_04Because it is never really dug Loki's outfit anyway. Oh man, just a classic Loki. But yeah, I've never really Yeah, I never really dug it.
SPEAKER_00Never had a problem with it. I just never knew how much I would like the spandex look more. Sure. You know, now whenever I hear whenever I hear Cyclops and X-Men go, well, what would you prefer? Yellow spandex? I will immediately scream yes. Like, yes. Yes, a over your your your your dumb leather motorcycle outfits.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and and B, yes, because Richard E.
SPEAKER_00Grant just proved that all we want to see is a guy in a ridiculous Kermit the Frog outfit using sorcery, and because of the fact that he was able to look the part and act the part, when you see him being a badass, you don't give a flying fuck what he's wearing at that point. You just absolutely enjoy his character. And just watch watching him scream glorious purpose and laugh in the face of his death uh was that was that was a beautiful moment. That was that was really cool. Yeah, that was my purpose. Episode five, Journey into Mystery, was my favorite episode of the entire series.
SPEAKER_04I think episode five Journey into Mystery is the best episode in the series. I will have to I will have to concur. We'll have to concur. Finally, Justin, we agree on something.
SPEAKER_00Oh, good. Good, because this entire time all we've been doing is arguing.
SPEAKER_01Five years of nah, bro. Nah.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, right, right. And then and then let's let's let's go ahead and wrap and get on to our next one where, you know, when the idea of like I can ench I can enchant it. Playing on the on the line, we're stronger than we realize. Loki goes ahead and joins forces with Sylvie, and guess what? We open up the doorway to the Citadel at the end of time, Justin.
SPEAKER_00Yes, we also give uh Loki the upgrade power. His going from level three to level four in a video game where he now has the power to use enchantment. And that right there was his step into becoming the classic Loki using the sorcery that he spoke highly about over knives, which I enjoyed that. So he's like, you know, you guys have your knives, and it's nothing compared to sorcery. And that line also there reminded me of uh the ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the force. And it was very much like don't be too proud of this technological terror you've constructed. And it was the same feel of Darth Vader saying, it's like, yeah, you have your Death Star, but it's nothing compared to what I can do. Right. It's like you guys have your knives, but it's nothing compared to what I can do.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, love it. Love it. Yeah, it was really well done. Really well done.
SPEAKER_00Just everything Richard E. Grant. Everything Richard E.
SPEAKER_04Grant Richard E. Grant, classic Loki show, classic Loki show.
SPEAKER_00Hashtag classic Loki and Alligator sidekick. Hashtag it ain't easy being green. He's 100% nice. Uh he is 100% up for that. He said that I I you know I'm I'm I'm ready, it's just up to Marvel and and Kevin Feige. And if Kevin Feige is uh as smart as we all know he is, he will do something even if it's just a three-part mini-series. Because when it comes to Richard E. Grant being Loki, who would you cast as his Thor? See? There's a there's a question for you, uh folks, if you want to go ahead and email in. Who would you cast as Richard E. Grant's Thor? Because I I'm sitting here been trying to think about this one for uh a a good now almost two weeks, and I I can't think of it yet. But the moment I do, huh. I mean it would be nice to see a an an absolutely hilarious uh representation of Thor and a a reunion between the two, Richard E. Grant and Steve Martin, but I don't think that anyone, anyone except me and and hearing you laugh right now would would accept a a Steve Martin Thor.
SPEAKER_04Citadel at the end of the world leads us into episode six, the finale. For all time. Always. Which is if you've is you've if you watched and pay attention, that is the tagline for the TVA. That's their whole thing. For all time, always. Which I think wraps up the whole show. General, as far as if you need a a final kind of name for an episode, yeah, for all time, always. This is what this has all kind of been for. And then the promotional little quote is we write our own destiny now. Uh-huh. Um, so yeah, we're on the asteroid at the Citadel. Looks like it's surrounded by a halo of a timeline, and we and we go on in and we meet a rather kind of different, uh, not a different version of Miss Minutes, but a Miss Minutes who is not about your bullshit right now.
SPEAKER_00No. I I I do want to jump back a little bit to that that opening where you're hearing every single little like you know, little line from every single movie that has come before.
SPEAKER_04That intro, dude, when you're hearing like I just couldn't talk. I was just I was just on the floor just from the jump. I was just like, as soon as I heard the music, I was just like, wait. And I started hearing things, I was just like, ooh, like it's so many good quotes and so much.
SPEAKER_00I saw I saw someone online.
SPEAKER_04Oh dude! Yeah, of course, of course, of course. It got always gets me. Yeah. Yeah. Somebody online was was like, Well, I I I enjoyed the intro, but I wonder why they used that song. And I I was like, Well, if you think about it, if we're if we're talking about where this whole this whole thing has been about time. Remember, Cap Goat has to play a lot with time to get to that point where he is that he didn't share with anybody. So that's if anything, they know that's if cat for Captain America to be the first Avenger, I think that song where he's dancing with Peggy is just that's like the uh it was a good end on his run. If that's how we're gonna end Captain America's run, and I think that more than anything encompasses Captain America. You can you can hear that song, you're like, Yep, that's kind of Captain America's song. I mean, you know, yes, he yes, he has an actual Captain America, blah blah blah, but but like as far as for who his what he did, who his character was, and just you know, I still love that that scene at the end where he's just like you want to share that memory? He's just no, yeah, I think I'm gonna keep that one. But they still give us a glimpse of it, and that's what they show us. And I and I think you know, when you're talking about Marvel as a whole, that you know, for Cap to be the first Avenger using that song in the background, it's just like, hey, you know, look everybody, this all of this is coming kind of full circle again. And and it's almost kind of like a send-off to their last couple phases, where it's just like, hey y'all, look, here's a bunch of quotes and bunch of a bunch of important moments from what you've known because everything's about to change. Everything is about to change. It's kind of there letting us know, like, hey, y'all like these old Marvel things, y'all liked everybody about this, we're about to flip it on its fucking head, and it's about to be a whole different ride. So it could to the point where some of those quotes and some of those things that we hear could be changed, could be altered, could be things that only happened in a certain point in a timeline. There's certain different timelines, because yeah, it's about to get real.
SPEAKER_00Going back, going back to that song though, I believe that that song was not only an endgame, I believe that's the song that was playing in Cap's house or his apartment when Nick Fury was hiding out in there. And when he walks in because he doesn't know who's in his apartment, because she's like, I I think you left your uh your radio on.
SPEAKER_04Radio on, yeah, yeah, it could be, could be. And I have to go back to the side. Yeah, I I I do believe you might be correct, my friend. Do believe you might be correct. You're usually pretty spot on with some of those things, you know what I'm saying?
SPEAKER_00I also believe that that was the first one to be directed by the Russo brothers, which got them Civil War, which then got them Infinity War in Endgame. Yep. So Hello Kat. Do you want something?
SPEAKER_04Kitty. I do have a quick I have I do have a note before we get too much into that beginning. So what we haven't mentioned was the Hunter B-15. She's on this mission to kind of let the other people that work for the TVA know, like, no, we're all variants, and I'll show you. So she takes them to Fremont, Ohio. That's when we see the variant of Rovana Rinslayer as a vice principal of a random school. And it's like, what are you doing in my school? And that's it. And an interesting note about that, so apparently Rovana Rinslayer's variant name as a teacher was Rebecca Terminate. And apparently that character is in Avengers run called Avengers, the Terminatrix Objective, where she goes back in time using the alias Rebecca Terminant, and tries to reconcile with Kang. And so and so when she is about to leave and he's like, Where are you going? She's like, I'm gonna go search for free will. I wonder if She's going to I wonder if that whole thing is going to come into play where she's going to get involved. She's going to reach out and find Kang, and that's how that's going to fly.
SPEAKER_00Well, yeah, it it seems like with her character, basically, that the only person who has free will is the person in charge. So her going out in search of free will is her going out in in search of the person, so that way she can then eventually be in charge. Not trying to jump ahead, but we could see her kill a a version of Kang, and then another version of Kang just comes through who's even fucking worse than the one we just saw. And it's like, oh, okay, well, thanks. And and then she's just gonna I I don't see her being able to take over. I definitely see her being that that one character that goes to be the person that takes over and then just gets absolutely destroyed by the person in charge. Sure. But yet her little exit there was definitely a setup for you know whatever's coming next in this universe.
SPEAKER_04I liked her little character arc where you can tell and she wants to just so badly hold on to her position of power. I mean, and even her variant is a vice principal, but she's like, What what are you doing in my school? You know, so she very much wants to be in charge. She wants to feel important. It's it's in it's in a part of her variant. So I think, yeah, I think that I think her that her just, yeah, I'm gonna go search for free will. I liked her exit. I really thought her character was really cool.
unknownRight.
SPEAKER_04But old Miss Minutes, old honory Miss Minutes, who's padded with these two Loki's right now, pretty much just tells them, like, yeah, so I'm here. My master says you gotta, you know, you can trying to give you an an offer here. And they're both just like, nah, we want to speak to the person in charge. And just then, we get to see the person in charge, or he who remains. Yes, we do. Turns out, just a brother at the end of the universe. Just a brother sitting there chilling at the end of the universe, trying to I okay. I don't and I'll say this again, I'll say it on, I'll say it on the podcast, because I I I really think he was trying to embody Donald Glover's Lando Cyrician, man, because he just had his little the way he was dressed, his mannerisms, just how I was just like, this is this feels really I feel like I just watched this because I just watched a little uh clip where Donald, I don't know if you've seen the clip where it's the it's a Saturday Night Live little skit where Donald Glover's playing Lando Carizion and they're at the they're at uh it's like we want to we're here to celebrate every black person in the Star Wars Galaxy, and there's like three people in the room. If you haven't seen it, I can't really remember the whole thing. If you haven't seen it, I have to watch it.
SPEAKER_01That's funny.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, so go check that out. But like I just I I got this vibe from him, but but you know, and so we we are introduced to He Who Remains, who's played by a young man named Jonathan Majors, who if you don't know who he is, you will soon, because it looks like his star is rising. Because I looked at his little filmography, and not only was he in a film that I need to see, a little Sundance film called The Last Black Man in San Francisco, which also looked like it had a oh, I saw that trailer.
SPEAKER_01You saw yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_04Okay. I want to see that. Yeah, so he's in that that's coming out. Yeah, it's yeah, it's it's apparently you can go see it. It's alright. I think it dropped. Okay. So yeah, they'd probably go out there and see it somewhere. But he's also going to be in uh a little Black Western film that's gonna be on Netflix, The Harder They Fall. No, yeah. And he's fit and he's filming Creed 3. Dude. So Jonathan Majors, yeah. Jonathan Majors is good. If you again, if you don't know who Jonathan Majors is, you will.
SPEAKER_00And well, he's gonna be also in something else that we'll bring up in a minute.
SPEAKER_04At the end, yeah, yeah, yeah. So you you will definitely know who he is very, very soon. So I know he's gonna be in Harder They Fall. He's gonna be in Hard O They Fall. Yep. Oh my god, I want to see that movie. It's gonna be that looks so freaking good. We will uh, you know, in fact, we should we we'll we'll retcon because I know that trailer's already dropped, but in one of the next podcasts we'll talk about when we talk about some trailers. We'll go ahead and throw that in a little shout, because yeah, that's if you're I'm excited for that one.
SPEAKER_00I just just the the opening when when she shoots him in the head and you know, he he might have called us ninkin poops. And she's like, Well, we ain't no ninkin poops either. You know, it's just like yes.
SPEAKER_01Oh man, and that whole walk of Idrisoba.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, we'll talk about that definitely in in another app, but uh I mean just that little part where they open up the safe and Idrisoba's in there, and you're just like, holy shit, dude, like this you are I already know, like this is gonna be crazy. So he's gonna be in that. So the Loki's go on ahead and try to get to he who who remains, and Sylvie goes right into fuck it mode and like fuck this dude, and he's bamping away. He's like, No, you don't understand. Like, I already know what you're gonna do.
SPEAKER_00I got it all already programmed into my my device.
SPEAKER_04This is this is like go ahead, go ahead. Go ahead. Try this. Go ahead. Try that. Yeah, okay, yeah, yeah. It's not gonna work.
SPEAKER_00Nothing's going to work. I do have to mention that the the entire place was uh was covered in I don't know if you know the uh the uh the Japanese art of uh of fixing uh broken pottery and and broken things of uh Kinsuki. But it basically the the their whole thing is that you can you can make something even more beautiful and even more precious by fixing it, and what they do is they they fix it with this a certain type of tree sap that they then they they fix all the cracks, they fix, they put all the pieces together, and then they cover all those cracks in gold powder.
SPEAKER_04Is that what that whole thing was? Like this whole thing.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, because it's it's the the the art of of putting back something together that that is and makes it even more precious and even more valuable to one.
SPEAKER_04I just love when they throw they throw little things like that and it all it's all connected, like it's right.
SPEAKER_00It even jumping into what they said at the be the beginning of the series where there was the time war.
SPEAKER_04The multiverse wars.
SPEAKER_00The multiverse wars, thank you. They called it the multiverse wars. And you know how he said that it's like you know, I'm I'm the one who has been here and and just controlling it and making sure everything's okay. I it just him being able to put everything back together after that that entire giant multiverse war with that just that style. Yeah. So cool. So cool. Very, very well done when it comes design work, when it comes to the the set design. Because whoever put that in, tap notcher or ma'am. Gold star gold starter, whoever you can.
SPEAKER_04Right next to Justin and Kate Heron. Right right up.
SPEAKER_00Even above that, because that was really well done.
SPEAKER_04Uh I mean, let's talk about that multiverse war. Turns out, not timekeepers, but variants of he who remains.
SPEAKER_00Yes, he's been called the Conqueror or he's been called the Conqueror.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, many names. He who he who remains, Conqueror. Jerk. Yeah, I forget the third one he says, but Conqueror. Jerk. Yeah. Yeah. Conqueror. Very first important name drop. A little little just a little hint to what's coming. So yeah, it turns out he goes, so here's y'all got two choices because I've brought y'all here for a reason. You can either stay, help run the TVA, because the TVA is doing exactly what it's designed to do, or you can kill me if you want. But if you kill me, there's going to be a worse version. Yeah, there's going to be a worse version of me and other worse versions of me that you're going to have to deal with. Right. So make a choice. And then, you know, that's when we get Loki V Loki.
SPEAKER_00Right. Which you know, I enjoyed that scene because of the fact that when he said he could be lying, but I'm a liar and I believe. You know, so it's just one of those moments where it's like, no, you don't get it. He's probably telling the truth because I lie, I lie like the best of them. So that that was a lovely bit of tension. Uh once uh he's like saying, No, no, no, don't do this. This could really fuck everything up.
SPEAKER_04Especially when he who remains is is just like, this is it. I can't see what happens past this.
SPEAKER_00The the best monologuing uh that I've seen in a long time came from that episode. He is fabulous. And I I can't wait to see him in other things that he's gonna be doing because just those lines of of when she even said divine intervention or a god or whatever it is, and then he just stops and goes, Oh man. And then just out and goes, No, no, not that at all. Actually, it just he just he was, I guess, able to take it to a level of I wouldn't say comedy. What's the word? Um his his his whole attitude is I've been doing this for a long time, and this is the way it is, and this is the way it's gotta be. When he he yells at her, Grow up, grow up, Sylvie, hypocrite, murderer. So he's he the way he delivered those lines was was not only a level of fuck it, but a level of excitement, because he probably hasn't had anybody around for a while.
SPEAKER_04I read that both Jonathan Majors and Richard Grant, and probably a lot of people, Richard Grant and Jonathan Majors especially, since they had to create these backstories of like, oh, I've been living this whole time in solitude. I heard that they really used the quarantine experience for the pandemic to really tap into that feeling. So when you so when so I think that feeling you're talking about is not only you're you're he's talking, it's like he adds a level of humor to it, but it's also the level of a person who's like you say has been alone and had to entertain himself for a level of madness, a level of madness.
SPEAKER_00A very long time.
SPEAKER_04He's slipping and slipping into like, yeah, a little bit of crazy, a little bit of unhinged, because you've been you've been in solitary, who you've been talking to Miss Minutes. That's the only person you've been talking to, and you've been sitting there, and at the same time, you're pulling these strings, you're doing these. So imagine him being like, okay, not only am I pulling these strings to bring these two Loki's here, but he's probably practiced that speech. He's probably gone over these lines in his head, changed them a bunch of times. He's like, Oh, the company's coming, people are coming, uh, uh, what am I gonna say? What am I uh uh you know, and just finally like having someone else to talk to. It's this whole like, yeah, yes, you're here. Welcome. Ah, yeah. I am he who remains, uh, you know, just this feeling of like, man, you it's been a while since you had a conversation, uh, you know, so you know, that's why you can go from like like going like no grow up, because it's also like you know, fuck you. Like I'm I'm here, I'm I'm I I I'm here doing this thing, damn it. Like, you don't know. Like it's yeah, it's his performance was very great.
SPEAKER_00Right, and then like I I love that moment where he goes, I'm a lot older than I than I look. And I'm tired. When he said I'm tired, 100% believed it. It it he really gave off that that impression that he is uh thousands upon thousands upon thousands of years old, that he's been doing this for for eternity almost.
SPEAKER_04He's done.
SPEAKER_00He's done.
SPEAKER_04It's it's all just absolutely when you're just absolutely done with especially when when you're absolutely done with a with a with almost what feels like a lifelong mission and and and it's come to fruition, where you're just like, well, here it is. Like I'm I'm I'm I don't have to s like I don't have to scheme this. I don't like yeah, uh we're here. This is done. I'm tired. I don't want to do this anymore. Yeah, yeah. I'm good with this. So uh yeah, you're you're absolutely correct. Like he sold, he's you know, he sells everything. Like you believe that this dude has been here this whole time by himself, try trying to trying desperately to keep all these timelines together so that different versions of him don't don't jack it up. And he's just like, you know what? I'm good. You want this so bad, y'all figure it out. But if you want to kill me because you feel like I've wronged you, fine, but just no, I'm not the I'm not the bad one. Right, but there's something worse than me coming. Um but then the ultimate betrayal, which they set up way early in the show, and it seems like a throwaway line where it's just like I literally watched you stab 28 people in the back.
SPEAKER_00I'll never do it again.
SPEAKER_04And then what happens to Hiddleston?
SPEAKER_00It's the first time he's ever been stabbed in the back.
SPEAKER_04Oh my god. I have a production note from Hiddleston where he says and it also helps with that when they just focus on that look, and basically he says that what Sylvie's betrayal was in in Loki's mind, was unprecedented and it shatters him internally. And you can see it. Loki is crushed. Yeah. Loki is crushed at the end of this episode. He's just he's got that look like, Fuck, man, like that just happened. So this is what that so that's what that feels like.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. But at the same time, uh my opinion is boo fucking who, because you should have seen this coming. Dude should have seen this coming plain and simple. As much as he's been, you know, in in a completely out of his element, but he's But don't we also say the same thing about Thor? What?
SPEAKER_04That he should have, you know, understood that he's he should see Loki's betrayal. Because he ends up Loki's like that.
SPEAKER_00He he says that, like, yes, I would like to give you the benefit of the doubt, but he ends up at the end of it all like in at the end of uh Ragnarok, he ends up putting that thing on his back, knowing that the dude was just gonna frickin' try and betray him again. And it's like, you know, you you you don't you don't change, you don't grow as a human you know, you know as a person you are who you are.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, like you are who you are.
SPEAKER_00So you're you're Loki. So I yeah, that that I should have seen that come.
SPEAKER_04Loki gets pushed through one of the doors. A time door, and you're like, shit. And so he's sitting there, and Sylvie stabs him. The last great words that he who remains says to Sylvie is I'll see you soon.
SPEAKER_00With a terrified wink in his eye. That's the thing. He looks so scared and happy at the same time. But when he gives that wink, you're just like, you can see that it's like I'll see you soon.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I'm I'm not the one you need to be afraid of. I tr I tried to tell you. Almost like, I tried to tell you. Uh and then, you know, Loki goes back, he's b he's back to the TVA, goes up to old Mobius, he's like, yo, blah blah blah blah blah blah blah. Mobius turns, looks at him. Who are you? Yeah, what sector are you from? And you go, what turns around, no more statues of the timekeepers. We see a statue of what's most likely going to be Kang the Conqueror.
SPEAKER_00Right, but before that we also end up seeing uh the the perfectly circular timeline in a lovely loop. It's just completely fingering off and you're getting all these branches.
SPEAKER_04And yes, you have the people at the TVA sitting there watching, can't do anything about it. Everything is in the red, and it's just that the multiverse begins.
SPEAKER_00Which completely sets up now, which I understand why they are doing this what if cartoon and why they're bringing it out in August, because it Perfect it sets up the the what if series.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_00And not only that, but Tom Hiddleston has said that he is looking forward to watching it because A, he he doesn't know the way the story goes, and he knows that it's going to have impact on the Marvel cinematic universe. I have the exact quote that he sent it right here or not right here, right here. No. Right here? No.
unknownNo.
SPEAKER_05Right where? Right here?
SPEAKER_01No, I swear to God I had it.
SPEAKER_00Uh yes, you said I'm intrigued because I haven't seen the whole thing, Hiddleston said, adding, and then it sets up a whole bunch of stuff in the MCU, which I know nothing about. Sure you don't. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04So the cartoon itself is going to have he He might know a bit, but I mean I I you know, thanks to folks like Tom Holland and and Ruffalo, they might not tell everybody everything.
SPEAKER_00Dude, they send out fake scripts to to people. They'll send out multiple different scripts and basically have like you here's your your lines are true, but the rest of the stuff that you're gonna read on it is crap. It's not real. You know, especially Tom Tom Holland.
SPEAKER_04Oh my lord, that kid. Yeah, that guy.
SPEAKER_00They didn't even tell him about the fact that it was Iron Man's funeral he was going to. He was under the impression that he was going to a wedding. That he was going that he was going to the end was gonna be the wedding of Pepper Potts and Tony Stark. And then when he got there and saw that everybody was wearing black, not just the guys in you know, in tuxedos or anything, but everybody was wearing black, he was like, Oh, wait a wait, uh w so the reaction you're getting from Tom Holland is a pretty damn genuine reaction because he didn't even film the scenes of of Iron Man dying yet.
SPEAKER_04Wow, check that out. Yeah, so check that out.
SPEAKER_00And a lot of other people too were under the impression that they were going to a wedding. That's what's up. Yeah, so that's what's up. You get some you get some genuine reactions from that. But I digress, they're they're setting up the what if. They're then at that point going to be setting it setting up Spider-Man, which we'll see in December. Spider-Man is connecting to the Doctor Strange multiverse of madness, and then it's connecting to Ant Man and the Wasp.
SPEAKER_04Yes, Ant Man and the Wasp Quantum Mania, which they've already said if there was a whole if if they would have said Kang the Conqueror and this was a movie, they could have easily pent like well after like Loki will return in season two, they could have easily been Kang the Conqueror will show up in Ant Man and Wasp. So right.
SPEAKER_00But they're not doing that, they're just you know being a good thing.
SPEAKER_04Well, because they haven't because they haven't technically said it. So that's why it's plus it wasn't about him, it's about Loki. So real quick, what do you when do you think Loki season, where in the timeline do you think that drops? Loki season two.
SPEAKER_00I think they'll do season two probably after Doctor Strange in the multiverse of madness and before Ant-Man and the Wasp Quant Mania, because season two is obviously going to introduce the variant of He Who Remains. So whether that is Kang or not, you're going to get a a version of the bigger threat than just the guy that, you know, said like He Who Remains says, I'm you know, I'm not the one you need to worry about. So we're gonna get an example of that in season two, which Kang the Conqueror might not even be the variant that we see in season two. Right. I think that they basically want to show you how bad it can get before you get to him being the major villain in the movie. So I I think that they'll probably drop that after Doctor Strange. I could be wrong. But I I I there's a chance they've already filmed season two of Loki because Clark Gregg dropped uh a bit of a ball in an interview, but saying that Clark Gregg, for those that don't know of names, he is Agent Colson. Yes, Agent Colson in uh The Avengers and Agents of Shields. Iron Man and Agents of Shield.
SPEAKER_04Still have not sat down and watched an episode of Agents of Shield begin in not one single episode.
SPEAKER_00I I've watched two seasons and and I just you know I got lost.
SPEAKER_04But what did he have to say?
SPEAKER_00He said that uh basically he was talking to Tom Hizzleston when they were filming Loki and commented on how taking on a series with 10 to 12 episodes was quite the endeavor, especially for the amount of money that Marvel's putting into all of it. And we've only seen six episodes of that.
SPEAKER_04But there's only I was gonna say there's only six episodes.
SPEAKER_00Oh so they they they might have already filmed season two and they just just decided not to release all of it because it would give too much information before letting this whole multiverse of madness thing.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, they and they have to keep this way under wraps. It's because they're gonna go they're gonna go so many plays. There they don't want to ruin that money. Right. Because it's it's we're gonna we're gearing up for the the year of Marvel, Justin. We're gearing up for some exciting times. Loki was awesome. I enjoyed this from beginning to end. Sure, maybe felt slow in a couple places, but you know, it happens. But you're the all the all overall product, just really, really great. Yeah. Tom Hiddleston is again one of my top three actors in the Marvel cinematic universe. I love watching him on screen, even when he's doing um hair flip posings.
SPEAKER_00I saw that video that you sent me. That was hilarious. That Twitter video that they're doing of all of his hair flips.
SPEAKER_04Every single hair flip. Yeah, it's fucking funny.
SPEAKER_00I'll tell you, I I never noticed the hair flip thing until that video. And now I won't be able to fucking unsee it. Every single time he'll he does it now.
SPEAKER_04I'm gonna laugh just because it is a hard whip. Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_05He's whipping.
SPEAKER_04He goes for it, man. He goes for it. I love it. I love it. I love it. Yeah, yeah. I think, all in all, awesome. Yeah, let's keep it going.
SPEAKER_00No, I so what I quite enjoyed it. Um, and but I will say that, you know, sorry, Tom, uh, but uh Richard E. Grant's has has taken the place as the best Loki of the Marvel Universe.
SPEAKER_04Alligator Loki, man. Can't sleep on alligator Loki. That's only because he doesn't no one told his story, man. Not yet. You just don't know his story. He's just there. So alligator Loki. I I think that he might even have been. I think he might even be a Loki that just chooses to stay an alligator just to sit and collect information and he can turn back into whatever and just be like, yeah, well I know everything because y'all say everything around me. Y'all just think I'm an alligator. So man.
unknownCool.
SPEAKER_04Well Episode two down. I think that's a I think that's about the meat and potatoes of it, man. We we covered a lot and there was a lot to unpack, and it was it was really awesome to go down the Loki journey with with you, of course, my good friend, and with all of you. Absolutely. Hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and also uh let us know what we missed, if we missed anything, because I'm sure we missed quite a bit. We might have skipped over quite a bit. But you know, if there's anything that that you like that you you know want to let us know about, or if there's anything that we missed that you want us to know about, go ahead and and and let us know.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, you can let us know with the the matinee review at gmail.com. We also have a Facebook page up now, thanks to the wonderful Justin. And we'll soon have a Twitter. I think I'll go ahead and kind of take care of the Twitter page, because that's that's kind of more my bag between the two of us. And we're up on Apple Podcasts, we're on Spotify. And the give them the website. I forget the website.
SPEAKER_00Uh BuzzSprout.
SPEAKER_04BuzzSprout.
SPEAKER_00Go to BuzzSprout and you uh look up the Mad May review, it will give you every single option that you can listen to the podcast on.
SPEAKER_04So don't be afraid to write a comment, rate us. It would be much better.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah. Um and it everything helps.
SPEAKER_04Everything helps. Everything helps. I do believe that's it. I think next week we you touched on a little bit earlier, but the next thing we do is we're going to be celebrating the the films and the life of a great man, Richard Donner. We're gonna absolutely we're gonna we're gonna get into such wonderful things as Superman and Lethal Weapon and Maverick, just a whole bunch of other scores and Goonies.
SPEAKER_00I'm wearing my Goonies shirt right now. The Goonies and uh also Ladyhawk for that's a a bit of a stretch for those who don't know what that is. We'll talk about that next week because that that was one of my favorites as a kid, too.
SPEAKER_04Wonderful. And it'll be great because that means this week we get to watch a whole lot of awesome Richard Donner films. So this is gonna be a fun week leading up to everybody, that's gonna be it for us. We hope that you will have a good week. Go out and get some sun, hug somebody if it's if it's if you're if if you're if you're you know, well, maybe not hug, but I think we're still socially distant some places, but give a physical.
SPEAKER_00If you're vaccinated, give give give somebody a hug that's vaccinated. If not, don't give somebody that's unvaccinated a hug because you know, you might give them a variant.
SPEAKER_04Oh, look at you. Look at you, look what you did. Look what you did. Most importantly, just try to love each other, y'all. Try to try to try to be positive and you know. Yes. Be safe, be safe and be happy. Cool. I am Achili.
SPEAKER_00I am Justin.
SPEAKER_04We will see y'all next week. Thanks again. Take care.
