A pasture setting can be very beneficial to horses as it caters to “the way a horses’ digestive system is designed to function,” Dr. Teresa Douthit, Kansas State University professor and equine nutrition specialist, explained. “The horse is designed to be sort of a trickle feeder, eating small meals throughout the day [. . .] So, the great thing about pasture is they can eat small meals throughout the day.
